They struggled to break down Sunderland despite having that much possession.
The full backs are still not fully sure on their new positions under Pep and even if they are it leaves huge gaps on the wings to exploit, Arnautovic and Shaqiri will exploit that.

Stoke sit deep, City keep possession, Stoke break. 2-0

Is there any anti knee-jerk meditation podcasts? Just did Gray->Carroll after promising myself I would keep faith. Someone help I think I'm addicted to tinkering.. did 79 transfers last year.

I had to teach myself to just look at the price rises everyday instead of at my actual team, that kept me from actually making changes and taking hits. Think of all the points you lost with hits!

I know.. But the fun is what its all about.. I still managed to get 90k.. this season has started well for me im at 4k so I'm thinking I should be smart and try and play properly this time out.

Don't know how many transfers I made last year, but I was pretty risky in the beginning, then got settled into a team and took very few hits. Best season yet last year, 833OR. Don't think I'll beat it as I got off to a rough one. Anyway, good luck this year, mate!

    Suggestions please -

    Foster
    Valencia / Stones / Fuchs*
    Hazard / Redmond / Townsend / Firmino
    Kun / Zlatan / Long*

    Bench - Jako / Friend / Capoue / Pieters

    A) Save FT
    B) Long > Rondon
    C) Fuchs > 5.0/4.5
    D) Something else

Also would you play Friend or Fuchs?

    4.0 Defender Watch...

    JORDI AMAT
    - Still in pole position for the 4.0s. Nothing to suggest he'll lose his place until Swansea sign a new CB.
    Verdit: Safe for now

    STEPHEN KINGSLEY
    - http://goo.gl/gNfkkE - "Neil Taylor says he’s ready for Premier League action after playing 82 minutes for the development squad on Monday."
    - Taylor is undoubtedly first choice. Kingsley did enough in GW1 to get another game, but it's only a matter of time.
Verdict: At risk this GW or next

    MARC WILSON
    - Marc Wilson moved to Bournemouth this week - who currently have Steve Cook and Simon Francis at CB.
    - HOWE: Marc Wilson will bring us experience. He has shown in his first training that he has leadership qualities and is very competitive.
    - Francis made a mistake vs United, but Adam Smith played well and scored. I'd expect them to keep their places for now, as Howe is a loyal man - but Wilson will be breathing down Francis' neck.
Verdict: Keep an eye after the internationals.

    🙂

Just to clarify on BOU, they'll probably line up:
      - A Smith Francis Cook Daniels; or...
      - Francis Wilson Cook Daniels.

There are other options with Ake (likely to play in mid) and B Smith (likely back-up) but the above two are most likely. Therefore, Wilson getting in depends on:
      - how Francis plays at CB... he did well filling in last season, but obviously mistake vs Utd
      - AND how A Smith plays at RB... this is Francis' best position and Francis is v unlikely to be dropped completely, so he'd move to RB is Smith isn't playing great and Howe wants Wilson at CB.

      🙂

      Thanks for this!

These cheap defenders can really make a difference. During last year I put no thought at all into having Matt Targett as my bench fodder defender - he was just plain cheap. Then he got auto-subbed into my 11 and delivered some good points - even an assist if I remember correctly.

Some on FFS will be giving Amat a starting place in GW 2 and I might even be among them.

Wouldn't say Taylor is "undoubtedly first choice." Kingsley got some matches at the end of last season and is very highly rated at the club. I think he could oust Taylor and make the position his own

I imagine there's a good chance that newly signed Dutch CB from Ajax, Van Der Hoorn will take Amat's place as they may be about to phase him in? Also Francis is unlikely to be dropped as he's captain and was a regular last season too.

It's a dilemma alright. Ibra has home advantage, aguero can literally explode anytime, anywhere and get 3-4 goals, but may be tired from midweek

My keepers are Foster (who's playing Everton this weekend) and Heaton (playing Liverpool). I also have Evans from West Brom and Barkley from Everton. I don't have any Liverpool players.

I'm set on playing Barkley, and I don't like playing my defenders against my attackers.

So far I'm planning on starting Foster, but benching Evans, to somewhat limit the risk. Should I start Heaton instead? Or bench Barkley and/or play Foster AND Evans?

I'm hoping this Bolassie/Baines combo works down the left and Bainsey keeps his OoP status. Should be better than the old "Bainaar" combo > Baines/Pienaar. Thoughts?

    1. Desertbug
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I think Baines will likely remain fairly OOP. Actual defense has never been his strong suit, and RK expects that from his defenders. Pursuit of Lamine Kone, suggests to me a desire to play three in the center at back (Williams/Kone/Funes Mori plus Jags and Holgate also in that position) and let Coleman and Baines surge up around Gueye who is parked in front of the three.

      1. Yankee Toffee
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

I agree with your analysis, but surely Jags needs to be on the pitch most of the time for leadership and his clearances/tackles.

Btw, do you think Deulofeu, Mirallas or Bolassie will start on the left of that front 3 this weekend?

        1. Desertbug

So put Jags in in place of Kone for now, if he is healthy. Williams will become a leader very rapidly as well. Point was, that he is piling up more central defenders than would be needed if he was only going to play two at a time.

I'm not sure that Bolasie will go straight into the starting lineup this weekend after less than a week with the club, unless RK is wanting to fire a shot across the bow of Gerry and Kevin in terms of their fitness and work ethic. I'm not sure I see that happening, because it seems unnecessarily destructive, but Gerry never lasts 90 anyway, and I think Bolasie comes on as a sub at the 60 minute mark for one or the other. Probably Kevin on the left for starters.

And with Gueye in front of them, much of the tackling is happening at that point on the pitch, before the action gets to the back line. He had more tackles than any of the defenders in GW1

                Williams/Jags/FM (in some combination)
                Seamus Gueye Baines
                Barkley
                Gerry Kevin
                Lukaku

                …but what do I know?

Or McCarthy instead of Seamus if Coleman isn't ready yet
And Holgate could fill in at any of those center back positions. I think he is going to be really good.
