This morning we take a look at our latest captain poll, assessing the likely favourites for the armband in Gameweek 3.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the homepage on mobile. Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We predicted that Sergio Aguero (13.1) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) would slug it out at the summit of the Gameweek 2 captain poll. They not only dominated voting but both excelled, bringing in a brace, maximum bonus and a 26-point Fantasy Premier League haul to those who chose to captain them.

We expect more of the same this Gameweek as Manchester City’s Aguero hosts a West Ham side that has looked disjointed due to injuries so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Manchester United frontman, who at 51% ownership has overtaken the 50.2% owned Aguero as FPL’s most popular player, visits a Hull side that have won both their opening fixtures. In the big Swede’s favour, the Tigers have conceding the third highest number of shots in the box of any Premier League side to date.

However, there could be a third protagonist to upset this duo’s dominance, with the 22.9% owned Eden Hazard (10.1) bringing in attacking points in both matches under Antonio Conte. The Chelsea wide man entertains a Burnley outfit that have conceded more shots than any side this season.

For those eyeing up a differential armband candidate, Southampton midfielders Dusan Tadic (7.4) and Nathan Redmond (6.1) look ideally placed. Although Tadic has yet to register attacking returns, his strong underlying statistics suggest that could change when Sunderland visit. The Serbian’s ownership in FPL is now down to just 4.6% after being discarded by more than 42,000 managers.

Nathan Redmond, who sits in 11% of FPL managers’ sides, has a goal to his name already and looks set to profit from his out of position striker role in this potentially prosperous encounter.

Ibrahimovic’s team mate Paul Pogba (8.5) offers another intriguing alternative armband option, following a strong debut in Gameweek 2 at home to Southampton.

After two matches without a goal, the 16.4% owned Harry Kane (11.0) will be lucky to register significant interest. The Spurs striker has continued to struggle in front of goal without the suspended Mousa Dembele in the side and, in Gameweek 2, his star waned further when he was forced into a number 10 role to accommodate Vincent Janssen (8.0), who was Tottenham’s most attacking player against Crystal Palace. Visitors Liverpool have already shipped five goals this season, but it could be the 1.9% owned Janssen who prospers rather than Kane.

Another of last season’s stars to fall out of favour this term is Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, who has been jettisoned by 35,000 FPL managers already this Gameweek on the back of two relatively poor displays from last season’s champions. A home tie against Swansea, however, could be the ideal fixture for the 27.9% owned midfielder to prove he is worthy of a price hike to 9.5 this season.

Pretty happy with things so far. Just outside top 10k. Gutted i benched capoue both weeks. Got 2ft. Wondering what you lot would do with this...

    Jaku/Foster
    Shaw/stones/pva/friend/paredes
    Hazard/redmond/firmino/siggy/
    Capoue
    Kun/ibra/gray

Thinking paredes to Amat before Amat goes up. Then downgrade siggy (lamela?) to fund gray to Negredo next week.

Without wanting to lose any more ground I have deployed the Wildcard:

    How does this team look?

    Foster Jak

    Stones Williams McCauley Love Amat

    Hazard Tadic Bolasie Lamela Capoue

    Ibra Kun Lukaku

Tripled up on Everton which is a bit of a risk but their fixtures look so strong over the next 8 GWs.

Hazard makes me nervous. He either shows up big vs bottom 7 teams or allows himself to be pushed to flank and plays backwards far too often. I'm simply not good enough at FPL to predict his attack potential

Ibra right now...but I'm curious if Nolito will increase the Kun potential since he creates MUCH more than Navas and doubles as a threat to goal...probably staying Ibra, but I feel Rooney is going to heat up very soon.

    The million dollar question, captain:
    a) Ibra (HUL A) Poor team with good form. Don't think away/home fixture matter

    OR

    b) Aguero (WHU H) Good team with poor form. He's usually better at home also.

I think maybe it is time Austin gets a shot but for Long not Redmond. He is a classic no9. A target man. Long and Redmond are similar so they won't work as a front 2 imo.

Need some advice guys. Should I wildcard?

    Foster/Heaton
    Valencia/Amat/Friend/Stones/Kone
    Martial/Firmino/Coutinho/Capoue/Routledge
    Ibra/Kun/Carroll

I've already gone -4 to get to this and catch a couple of risers. Carrol, Firmino and Kone will all drop this week too most likely. I want rid of Amat, Friend, Stones, maybe Martial, Firmino (or Coutinho), Routledge, Carroll...

Other option is lose Firmino + Carroll for -12 total this week.

    1. Pooodle
      • 16 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

Why are people on here so keen to wildcard? Your team looks basically fine.

I would say don't do any more transfers this week after you've already spent -4 but Carroll isn't going to play so maybe dump him for someone in the same price bracket. What were your earlier transfers?

Brought in Capoue and Ibra. Just realised it's Redmond not Routledge in there, sorry. There doesn't seem to be great options at Carroll's price or less (0 itb). There's a lot of mistakes in there that can be rectified with the wc is what I'm thinking.

Anybody else having Fischer problems? Still having him in my team is making me furious, but with him costing 5.4, it leaves only 5.5 midfield options available to me. Would you go Ramirez, or Fish it out for another week and then afterwards do 2 transfers for a 6.0-6.2 player?

Who are THE best defenders to transfer in over the next few weeks? Based on Goals, Clean Sheets, Set pieces, fixtures etc?

        🙂

I got in a defender for a hit this week.. Starting to think I should have gone with PvA alright.

      Forgetting price, probably Bellerin.

With price in mind, Kosc, Williams, Shaw, Valencia

I created my first table in the members area around midfielders and their involvement in goals/chances.

Something that jumped out at me is that across the first two game weeks there were only three assists from midfield. Of those one was from Maloney who only played around 20 minutes (the other two were from Lallana and Barkley).

Surely that must be some sort of record? But is it just an anomaly? Has the the creative midfielder had his day or are they just taking their time to get going?

The creative kids haven't played yet. Give it time.

    2FT, 0.0 ITB
    Foster / Jaku
    Evans / Friend / Francis / Pieters / Amat
    Hazard / Mahrez / Firmino / Redmond / Capoue
    Gray / Ibra / Kun

    A) Straight Firmino -> ??? (save 1FT)
    B) Pieters/Firmino -> ???/???
    C) Do nothing

    Firmino out for Barkely?
Or should I just hold him and take the 0.1 loss on the chin...

I'm considering it. Barkley could just as well go on and blank. And Firmino WILL come good. We just don't know when. I'm currently thinking I'd rather lose a FT than doing the wrong thing with Firmino (hence c) at the post above yours).

I'm doing that transfer today - catch the price rise but I think Barkley is a better option right now

Anyone looking at Lukaku? Think he could go on a run like last season with the fixtures he has.

Can't accommodate him alongside Kun&Zlatan. Barkley is the Everton man for me.

I'm so confused between Lukaku, Barkley and Bolasie. But I think I'm gonna go with Lukaku along with Zlatan and Kun

And I'm hearing Barkley fluked in the first 2 games. Wish I had watched them
