The Stock Check

Raheem Sterling starts the motors on another international break bandwagon, whilst Sergio Aguero may just have removed the wheels from his. Here’s the Stock Check following Sunday’s pair of matches.

On the Rise

Raheem Sterling
We cited Sterling’s rise as a key element of Gameweek 3 in our recent Scout Mission and the City flyer duly delivered.

The two goals against West Ham, off the back of his pair of assists in the opening two Gameweeks, has now ensured that Sterling will enjoy huge interest from FPL investors over the international break.

Eden Hazard’s form and his own transfer traffic may divert from Sterling’s appeal but we’d expect further price rises before the Gameweek 4 derby clash with United.

At just 8.1, it’s difficult to argue against Sterling’s potential to at least challenge Mesut Ozil, Dimitri Payet and Riyad Mahrez in the 9.5 bracket.

Whether he’ll hit the heights of Hazard’s output remains doubtful but there’s no question that Sterling’s prospects have been significantly boosted by Pep Guardiola’s arrival.

David Silva
The crafty Spaniard undoubtedly played second fiddle to Sterling’s headline grabbing performance but his display was no less impressive.

We’ve almost overlooked what Silva can bring us a Fantasy asset and, in such a crowded midfield market, he’s unlikely to earn too much recognition.

However, he’s still a key factor in City’s defence and today’s showing highlighted that we can’t write him off.

Michail Antonio
Shifted from wing-back to an attacking role once again in the second half at the Etihad, Antonio again delivered via a far-post header. He has now scored eight headed goals since arriving in the Premier League.

Antonio’s rather withdrawn celebration on scoring may well have been targeted at Slaven Bilic, who must surely be getting the message that he needs to keep Antonio’s substantial presence in the final third.

Following the winning header against Bournemouth in Gameweek 2, Bilic remarked that he still intended to deploy Antonio in a defensive role as required. However, again today it became clear once again that the Hammers need his threat in the box.

With West Ham’s injury list clearing, Antonio certainly faces fierce competition for starts in an attacking role, so we should temper our enthusiasm. However, the potential of Antonio as a 7.0 midfield option is obvious – to Sam Allardyce and FPL managers at least.

The West Brom Defence
Tony Pulis’ rearguard became the only other side other than Manchester United to move to two clean sheets following the drab 0-0 stalemate at the Hawthorns.

Moreover, their persistent pursuit of goals from set-pieces was there for all to see.

Gareth McAuley, Craig Dawson and Jonny Evans will surely profit from further goals over the course of the season based on Sunday’s evidence.

The Baggies attack looked toothless, with Salomon Rondon isolated but, via dead-ball deliveries, their defenders look set to earn handsomely over the campaign.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
The Argentine again mimicked Zlatan Ibrahimovic – this time mirroring his frustrating 2-point blank.

However, Aguero’s day could, conceivably, take on far more significance in the next 48-hours.

An errant swing of the arm, apparently missed by referee Andre Marriner, appeared to be aimed at West Ham’s Winston Reid who was later replaced with an injury apparently sustained in the clash.

There is already much debate on the likely consequence of Aguero’s act, with plenty of uncertainty on whether the incident was seen and will be present in Mariner’s report.

If it’s not, the FA may choose to review the footage and could then follow this up by taking retrospective action.

There is a very real possibility that Aguero will face a charge of violent conduct that would see him receive a three-match ban.

That would rule him out of the Gameweek 4 Manchester derby and the Gameweek 5 trip to Bournemouth. Aguero would serve the third match in the EFL Cup tie with Swansea City.

This is all premature, however. We can only wait on news from the FA once the referee’s report is submitted on Monday.

Kevin De Bruyne
Despite delivering a second assist of the season, the Belgian’s undoubted Fantasy potential appears to be subdued by his new central role, reducing his ability to provide open play crosses and cut inside to shoot from range.

With Sterling flourishing today, it seems unfeasible to attempt to justify De Bruyne’s lofty 10.5 price tag compared to his 8.1 and even Silva’s 8.9.

The Man City Defence
Guardiola’s defence were breached for the third game running with the 34% owned John Stones again disappointing.

Stones was withdrawn after suffering an eye problem with the City boss reassuring us post-match that tiredness, rather than an injury was the factor behind his removal. Even so, given City’s lack of clean sheets to this point, Stones looks set to suffer significant sales over the international break.

Dimitri Payet
A prolonged absence will lead to further sales as the Frenchman falls well behind the race for a slot as our heavy-hitting midfielder.

That market has now become so competitive, Payet will surely have to produce some early brilliance, once fit, to enter the race.

Bilic has indicated that Payet should return after the international break but his remaining owners are unlikely to see that out given the in-form talent in his price bracket.

Salomon Rondon
A forlorn figure leading the line for West Brom today, the Venezuelan’s potential appears to be strangled by the Baggies’ current lack of attacking ambition.

Pulis is promising plenty of signings in the window. Rondon must hope that many of them inject some much needed attacking urgency.

Nacer Chadli appears to be the first through the door.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I watched the Middlsbourgh game last night and Stuani looks like a good pick for 5.0. I think he will score some goals v weaker defenses.

I do like the look of Stirling. I think i might save the trade as i find it pretty handy to have 2FT in the bank for more movement.

West Brom are closing in on the signing of Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho, reports AS.

The Baggies are in advanced negotiations with Malaga over a deal which will cost €18m, the value of the player’s buyout clause.

    Good morning all!

How are we on this fine Monday morning? Any knee jerking last night and transfers already made?

On reflection I'm not panicking just yet. An Arsenal attacker might be nice but I'm going to find it hard to fit in Ozil or Sanchez right now without downgrading one of Hazard, Ibra or Aguero.

Likewise Sterling would be nice but I don't fancy a hit to bring him in before United, which is a shame because of the price rises.

That being said - if Aguero, Lamela and Gray all face bans I think I'll wildcard straight away. I've actually looked at potential wildcard teams though and I don't fancy having to figure out who to put where considering I'll want Benteke, Sterling, Hazard, Aguero, Ibra and an Arsenal mid 🙂

I did VVD to Williams....I had 2 Fts...could have avoided that and waited for Kun, Lamela Ban News..the fear of Price Fall made me do it..
I still have Musa to remove and if Lamela and Kun get the banned...might take a hits worth of -8 and do some changes...

Yeah an 8 point his could be on the cards if Aguero gets banned and then use the wildcard to get him back in.

I really like Williams as an option. Tempted to ship Stones for him or Baines.

Morning! I was planning on wildcarding due to pesky Rhodes issue hanging over me and concerns over Heaton and the Burnley defence. Now with Aguero almost definitely facing a ban (ref didn't see it, was clearly deliberate) and my Arsenal boys turning it on I am on board with the wildcard.

Think I will be going Ozil and Ibra-less with enough cash for Aguero back in, but the strikeforce is a bit of a minefild. Been forced into 3-5-2 due to the above mentioned Middlesborough striker and think I'll stick with this for now. Havent had Ibra yet and don't feel the necessity to rush him in...

If only it wasn't a damned international break!

Yeah the international break is a bit annoying - I'd like to try and jump on some price rises but don't want to wildcard if it's not necessary.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the Burnley defence - should be decent enough at home.

I did Mahrez to Ozil yesterday. Cursing that decision as I would have liked to have kept the FT to swap either Kun or Stones out... I might be forced to take a hit if Kun is banned. Lukaku and Benteke on my radar as replacements to accompany Rondon and Ibra upfront.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

If Aguero does received a three match ban (two in the PL) how do you plan to react and why?

    a) bench for two matches. You'll want him back anyway.
    b) ditch and hope you can get back in, possibly with a wildcard for his return.
    c) Wildcard now and use those valuable Aguero funds elsewhere in the team, while muttering 'tomorrow's another day' as you dismiss all thought of trying to get him back in later.

Would it only be 2 matches because of a cup match?

I don't think I'd want to bench someone who holds so much value. I'd be tempted to ship and use the wildcard to get him back in.

Yep, says two in the PL in brackets.

I'm with you on that strategy. Lots will wildcard to get him out. When it comes to getting him back they will wish they still had that option. Easy to dump, hard to get back.

Surely it can also be viewed as a fund raising opportunity. With Aguero on ~50% ownership, his price will drop quickly, possibly 0.3 over the next 2 weeks. If you are quick to bail on the confirmation of a ban and invest in a replacement that will rise 0.1 or 0.2 in the same period you could make 0.2M in the meantime.

At least this has happened early enough in the season that his price hasnt risen much, else it would be very difficult to drop him and fund bringing back in without some serious surgery as there would be some serious cash loss.

Whatever, if he does get a ban, it will mix things up a bit - fun fun fun!

Cazorla is not nailed on when Ramsey is fit. Sanchez willl be a late arrival post international break with Chile playing on 7th September so doesn't necessarily make sense to bring in him only for GW 4-5.

I'd remove for Costa, like the idea of the Hazard / Costa double up. I'd keep the funds to bring back Aguero in the meantime.

Frustrating though as I was planning to use my FT differently to this to improve my midfield.

      5. Dr Robotnik

I have very few issues atm, unless Lamela and Gray get bans too, in which case I would probably take a - 8, bring in Lukaku, Defoe, Ozil, then wildcard after GW5 to get Aguero back in and give my team a reshuffle.

But A if Lamela and Gray don't also receive bans. I wouldn't want to use 2/3 of my FTs over the next 2 weeks, transfer in, transfer out, it seems wasteful to me. And I also wouldn't feel the need to WC when I am fairly pleased with the rest of my team. And as for the people saying you can't bench 13m, it's not much different to leaving money ITB to get him back. Plus I can play Capoue (whu) and Pieters (cry) in weeks GW4 and 5. I want more than 3 weeks to look at when choosing a whole new squad.

Does anyone have an idea of the chances of Lamela and Gray getting a ban? Or when Friend is likely to return from injury? My hand may be forced regardless. Will we find out soon?

As for Aguero if he does get banned then I'll sell and hope that others do so that the sell/buy back price isn't too bad.

The plan will definitely be to get him back for his return. So I'll either keep cash in the bank or plan FTs to get him in a few GWs.

If I wasn't using my WC this week then I'd consider keeping him or selling for another high value forward and keep the cash to do straight swap.

        B for me.

Considering Barkely-Tadic-Aguero out and Sancez-Sterling-Trolkaku/Costa in

        B. Kun and lamela to kane and ozil -4. If no ban for lamela then kun and redmond to kane and sterling -4. Agree it could get messy if wildcard to get him out and then plan 2 FT to get him back in. As we all know, transfers hardly go to plan..

Would surely ditch him before he falls in price.
Then get him back on WC. Was planning to WC after the Intl break but don't think I'm convinced by the form of players to do a major surgery..

Ship for a striker with good fixtures during his banned period, then get back in when he returns hopefully a bit cheaper and banking the profit. Simples.

        B.

        Mahrez and Agüero out
        Özil and Vardy in

Gameweek six could see Agüero back in for Vardy.

Unless your really scrambling around for 0.1 then surely this early in the season its a no-brainer to get rid and have the possibility of picking up points with another heavy hitter and the bonus of a little cash possibly in the bank for when you get him back.

I have 2 FT's and was planning to urge Mahrez/Tadic > Sanchez/Bolasie, but the lingering ban messes it up a bit.

Mahrez and Tadic may drop their price, and Kun can still get away with it.

If Aguero does get it, I'll probably keep Mahrez, ship Tadic for Alexis and get Lukaku (short of Costa by 0.1).

i was hoping to avoid a wildcard and use 2 fts to sort out side but if Aguero and Gray are facing bans then I may well wc now particularly if there are any injuries after internationals.

Holding. So many people wildcarding will slow down price drops and rises. There will be plenty as well who will be transferring him in this week oblivious to the ban. It's only 2 games in low scoring looking GWs and i've better use of 2fts than to waste them piddling about with Kun.

        Option (c)

I currently have both Ibra and Aguero in the team, and I am on my WC. At the moment I trying to catch some price rises over the international break to attempt to increase team value.

If Aguero does receive a ban, I will bail on him. Given his price, I believe that we will see mass disposal. His large ownership will result in a proportionately large drop in value. Most FPL players, like me, have zero self-restraint. As soon as he drops from 13.1 to 13.0, that will spell the end of Aguero.

Also given the ban, the next time he plays will be 30th Sept which is exactly a month from now. I would hate to see around 13% of team value wasting away for a whole month. Again given current ownership level combined with the chances of a mass exodus, I might be able to buy him back for at most 12.5 at the end of Sept.

Awful shout, have you seen either of these play? Completely different players. One is getting physical presence but offers nothing attacking.
The other is great at beating men and driving forward and attracting defenders/midfielders creating space for the likes of Kane and Alli.

          A) Sterling (picks up goals/assists every game)
          B) Ibra

        Why is Aguero banned?

I doubt it. Will be shocked if a ban is given for that.

No just transfer out Kun. A hit if you want to move out Wilson also. Or Kante.

I think I've WCed to early. I've made roughly 4-5 changes. Can I deactivate the WC and the transfers or is it all locked in now?

Can you profit if you take hits to bring in risers, then WC (assuming you intend to use it over the IB) which will take all your hits away anyway?

      1. Cecil The Lion
        • 9 Years

        Yes.

But since your question is convoluted I might be giving you the wrong answer

lol. you know what I mean.

hits, followed by WC to erase hits. Profit from risers here or no

          great. nobody answer.

but let's talk about Mane or Couts or whatever instead of how to make easy money over two weeks.

Your assumption is correct, hits will be erased, profit remains yours. Just note the player needs to go up by 0.2 for your to keep 0.1 profit.

I asked similar yday and was told the wildcard erases your hits.

Number one in the world. Hasn't owned aguero all season. No chips used.

      Aguero is not essential.

I'll ask him after Kun has banged in 30 goals this season.

Aguero has a history of escaping bans, like that two footed lunge on David Luiz and a stamp on Mark Noble

I don't think he will get a ban.wasn't much in it. Ref saw the incident and didn't even give a free.

Mid ozil / sterling / coutinho / hazard / capoue

So close but no Aguero or Ibra is a huge gamble.

You need at least one of them I feel.

If Kun is out for 2 games would Nolito start as striker? With Nasri taking his place in the wings? Or it will be a straight swap for Kelechi?

      Just used my wildcard

      Heaton, Jaku
      Valencia, Evans, Friend (Francis, Amat)
      Hazard, Ozil, Sterling, Fer (Capoue)
      Aguero, Ibra, Gray

I had actually traded in sanchez for firmino after the arsenal game, but sterling seems an option I can not resist.
      Pretty much did
      sanchez to ozil
      redmond to sterling
      stones to evans
foster to Heaton. Decided to switch foster to heaton and bring in evans as west brom cover because of Heaton's save point potential week in and week out.

      Thoughts??

      IN OUT
      A. Benteke Agüero GW4 (Probably miss the next 2 games)
      B. Özil Ramírez GW4 (Lost the love / Arsenal cover)
      C. Williams Funes Mori GW4 (Game time concerns)
      D. Evans Morgan GW4 (Saves 0.5m)
      E. Pickford Heaton GW4 (Saves 0.5m)
      F. Sterling Redmond GW4 (Lost the love / City cover)

Hovering around the top 1% OR and presuming Kun gets the gun, changes worth it to keep ahead of the posse for antother little while (leaving 1.3m itb)?
      YES
      NO
