Suspensions

With all the matches kicking off at 3pm on Saturday, the scene was set for a chaotic day keeping track of disciplinary matters. However, with just a couple offences resulting in suspension, it was a relatively quiet affair.

The first indiscretion arrived via a crimson flash amongst all the Norfolk goals, as Newcastle’s Dan Gosling was penalised with a straight red for an over the top challenge on Norwich’s Russell Martin during the 4-2 loss at Carrow Road. With Chiek Tiote and Danny Guthrie on the treatment table, the three-match ban for Gosling means Alan Pardew will be running out of partners for his French maestro, Yohan Cabaye, and the lack of shielding options for the now makeshift defence could augur further doom for the Toon Army despite their encouraging fixtures (SWA, WBA, bol). It’s also worth noting that Cabaye himself, is just a single yellow away from a ban.

The other man to get a mention in these dispatches is Aston Villa reborn striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor. With his new lease of life on the pitch has also come a newfound fondness for yellow cards. His career stats list just four picked up in 31 domestic appearances last year, and an overall rate of one every ten games since his 2005 debut. However, his fifth this season has come in just 15 league games and will therefore see him fall off the Suspension Tightrope and into a 1 match ban for the visit of Liverpool next Sunday.

Gamweek 16 Bans

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Third of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)

Suspension Tightrope – Four Bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)

Ohara offers nothin in a 4-4-2 though.. not on many set pieces and just takes a lot of pointless horrible shots.. bad for ppi.. jarvis runs those flanks and when he hits form is good for a couple of assists

I can't wait to get rid of him this week.

    my team is as follows:

    vorm moreira
    jones rtaylor enrique kompany turner
    silva vdv bale ferguson ramsey
    ba ade rvp

got 2m in the bank but im definitely taking out ramsey this week for either mata or nani. but il need to downgrade kompany for a defender 5m or less. what you think? thanks

and what to do with vdv?

what do people think of lpool coverage as they have wigan (a) blkbn (h) and newc (h) after villa. suarez or adam?

Adam would be my choice as Suarez takes up a striker slot, and hasn't shown consistency. I'm looking at bringing in Maxi, if he can get a first team place. VdV can wait, I imagine he'll start this week, and if he starts he's got potential for big scores.

I'd downgrade VdV to maybe Naylor, also who is Moreira?

Re previous page. In terms of trying to catch mini league leaders, it depends who it is. You're unlikely to catch Tosey or Gooner Dave even if they're only 15 points ahead of you. They're more likely to pull away. If it's just some Joe Soap 50 points is no problem.

True, but actually this is a decent point.

If an FPL pro is 50-100 points ahead of you, catching them will be pretty tricky.

There are people 50 points below me and I'm already disregarding them for the season (and I'm nothing special).

Injuries last weekend dictated my transfers. Pilkington and Drenthe not playing leaves me with a maximum of 11 outfield players (with Bale doubtful and Ward having scored 0).

£600k in the bank. What's the best player to bring in? Might pay pts and dump VDV for Nani (or Mata) as well as dumping Drenthe.

Who's the best player to bring in for £600k, £700k (or £900k)?

Enrique, Simpson, brown, Wilkinson, Taylor (swansea)

Defence needs work, downgrade Given to the cheapest player goalie you can, and then I'd upgrade either Brown/Wilko.

I think if you were to upgrade Brown that would leave you 6.1? and Wilkinson 5.6? I'd certainly have a look at Smalling, who's a good option the man U defence, but you could bring in someone like BAE or Walker.

Sunderland and Spurs to win tonight? Decent odds, especially for the latter but I'm not so sure about the former as I reckon BB will score a few.

    Thoughts, gents?

Nice team, but all of a sudden it's lacking in Man U attack.

I also wouldn't have Brown and Westwood.

      still hanging on, for now

Hopefully we will get some news this week. I think as soon as he is fit he will start as Everton are lacking in attack.

My only concern is Moyes rarely gives much away and there was a "rumour" floating aroung 2 weeks ago that they had fallen out. Either way, i might give him next week and see.

That ismy concern too.. It would be strange though, a couple of weeks ago drenthe was all about getting back to form and being happy at everton... Who knows. I might keep for another gw and then double transfer.
I wanted someone from everton for the next weeks as they have good fixtures and a dgw

Is this Drenthe rumour from the same Chinese whisper effect here that has Kenny returning next week and other such piffle, or has anyone got a reliable source other than "I think I remember someone saying this here a while ago".

Of course that's not the same as RVP to Barcelona which is definitely going to happen. 😉

I have two frees and am pondering the following options...

VDV to Mata (only if VDV still not starting)
    Studge to Ba
    Verm to Baines
    NDyer to Gower
    Drenthe to Laarson
    Brown to Evans

    What would you do?

        Why Verm > Baines 😯
Since Vermaelen has returned, he has scored 3 goals, an assist, 3 clean sheets and 7 bonus points in 5 games. Baines has scored 2 goals, 1 assist, 2 clean sheets and 8 bonus points all season.
Sure, Vermaelen has City this week(and given his attacking potential who would doubt him against a City defence that havent kept a clean sheet for 7-8 games) and then he has 1 hard game in 9 after that. Waste of a million IMO, especially with Baines/Everton form.

Just a quick question to the people who played FPL for more than a season, does everyone team looks very similar on previous seasons too? Or is it just because of the second wildcard we had this year?

Found it abit boring with everyone having the same 8-9 core players 😕

The 2nd Wildcard certainly speeded up the generic team process this year, but yeah, generally speaking they do end up looking very similar.

I was presuming that it will take at least until Jan for the teams to be similar, not when it was barely past week 5/6.

Dilemma! I could squeeze Nani in at the expense of replacing Ba with a cheap as chips forward who hardly EVER plays leaving me with a midfield of Mata, Silva, Bale, Nani, Walters. Should I?

My other two forwards are Ade and RVP, this would only be possible ahead of the ensuing Nani bandwagon picking up pace.

Ba has 3 good game weeks only before disappearing for the ACON...

In the meantime, Chamakh rules out a move back to France in the January transfer window, but it looks pretty likely that he'll be leaving in June:

"I’m 27. I need to play, I cannot stay like this forever. I will not leave in January. The important decision is in June. If I were to return to France, it would be to Bordeaux. I'm attached to the club."
