Our latest Captain Poll has now launched to gauge your early views on the top armband options for Gameweek 12.

Last week’s poll leader Sergio Aguero (13.1) now has three goals in his last two league matches after netting in Man City’s home draw against Middlesbrough.

Owned by 46.3% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Argentine will be amongst the leading contenders once again, as he travels to a Crystal Palace side still seeking a first Premier League clean sheet of 2016/17.

His 10%-owned team-mate, Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) could be an enticing alternative, having scored or assisted in all four of his away appearances this season.

After a sensational 19-point FPL haul at home to Everton, Eden Hazard (10.0) has been drafted in by more than 147,000 managers ahead of Chelsea’s Gameweek 12 trip to Middlesbrough.

With five goals and two assists over his last four league matches, Hazard looks set to be one of Aguero’s fiercest rivals for the Gameweek 12 captaincy.

Also in his favour is a 14-point return away to Southampton in Gameweek 10, which indicates the Belgian may have addressed a travel sickness that has blighted him throughout his Fantasy Premier League career.

With a goal or assist in nine of the first 11 Gameweeks, Diego Costa (10.5)’s consistency makes him another armband favourite among Chelsea’s ranks.

But ‘Boro will be no pushovers.

Aitor Karanka’s side have conceded just once in the last three, which includes clashes against Arsenal and Man City. Furthermore, the Teessiders have been breached on just six occasions in five home fixtures.

With five goals against in the last three Gameweeks, Southampton’s defensive resolve has softened of late.

This presents another batch of strong captaincy candidates among the ranks of visitors Liverpool, who have scored 30 times this season, more than any side.

Topping the Reds armband options is Philippe Coutinho (8.7), who served up his fourth double-digit haul of the season during Sunday’s 6-1 thrashing of Watford. With an ownership of 45.8%, the Brazilian is FPL’s most popular midfielder.

Roberto Firmino (8.6) and Sadio Mane (9.0) both delivered impressive returns of 15 and 13 points respectively in that match to ensure they remain contenders in the poll.

Mane, who was sold by Southampton in the summer, is particularly intriguing for those who subscribe to the theory that players perform better against former employers.

Romelu Lukaku (9.8) may have blanked in Everton’s 5-0 humbling away to Chelsea on Saturday but in Gameweek 12 the 33.7%-owned striker faces a far more obliging defence.

Visitors Swansea have conceded nine times in their last four matches, while the Belgian international has scored in all bar one of his home league encounters. It would be no surprise to see him near the top of the poll by the end of the international break.

Alexis Sanchez’ away form looks promising as Arsenal make their way to Old Trafford. Six of the Chilean’s seven goals have arrived on the road, as he faces a defence with just two shut-outs in the last eight Gameweeks.

Elsewhere in north London, Harry Kane returned to action with a converted spot-kick at the Emirates yesterday.

Owned by a mere 5% of FPL managers, the Spurs striker has netted in each of his last three Premier League outings and hosts West Ham’s leaky defence at the Lane.

Gameweek 12’s differential captaincy options are led by Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe (7.3), who has six goals this season and hosts a Hull City outfit that has conceded 13 times on their travels.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later next week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Ok, I've been convinced.

Holding on to Sanchez now until GW 15 when Chelsea's fixtures improve where I will get Hazard in.

Saving my FT this week then downgrading Lukaku to Possibly Austin for their fixtures. after the next GW.

    Current team:

    Foster Boruc
    Amat Morgan Friend Holebas Macauley
Sanchez Firmino Coutinho Allen De Roon
    Aguero Lukaku Costa

      How you getting Hazard in?

        I'm not until GW 15.

My plan is to basically bury my head in the sand and hope one of them gets injured over the internationals.

Going to save the FT and just accept I might have a bad GW.

I've made it this far with no hits yet so may as well continue!

Rank 8,000ish so I'm fairly happy.

      Gotta be happy with that.

I'm leaning toward Ozil over Sanchez personally so plan to do Sanchez-Hazard this week then Gundogan-Ozil week after.

Like your plan though, I would wait until gw15 if price rises weren't so nailed.

Every team will be different but to keep Cout + Costa it really came down to the below options to get Haz in for me.

      1) Sanchez, Gun
      2) Firmino, Sterling

      I decided on 1.

No right or wrong answer IMO. Yes, Pool are scoring for fun in some games but my reasoning was they all share points. They did yesterday but other times it is just 1 getting the points. Cout is the best choice IMO. Corners and some FKs.

Haz is arguably a better pick than Firmino and has been highest scoring mid recently as well as top of all mids overall. On pens. Firmino is still a good choice if you fancy a double up with Cout at expense of Sanchez/Haz (I didn't)

Sterling has been frustrating to own but enjoyed his points. Dropping in price so decided to take a punt on Gun as he is playing in the attacking 4 and getting into great positions. With Peps love of rotation I decided to go for the cheapest option available.

Dropping Sanchez was never an option for me as I know what he is capable of. Yes you could drop him instead of Firmino for Haz but I like to spread the risk. No Arsenal cover for me is risky and I am more comfortable having Cout + Sanch than Cout + Firm.

Yes, I am trying to convince myself but others will also do the same. Point is there is no right or wrong answer. Just go with your gut, what you prefer and what options fit your team best.

      Good luck to all.

I hope you're right, because I did the same thing a couple of days ago. Current line-up is:

          Heaton - Foster
          Alonso - Clyne - Holebas - Smith - Amat
          Hazard - Sánchez - Coutinho - Allen - Fletcher
          Aguero - Lukaku - Austin

Also thinking of going Smith --> Brunt/McAuley. Thoughts?

looks like youv'e changed your mind on gundo then, nice. Hazard is a must have imo, more important than any liv mid but thats just my opinion

I agreed with that above. It was a case of picking the best Pool mid and I think it is Cout IMO (FPL wise).

I prob won't but I could swap deroon and kaku for anichebe and haz with enough left over for Coleman to Alonso that would allow me to keep Sanchez firm and cout, would have to do it today with exact funds

Ozil (9.6) last six Gameweeks 36 FPL Points

          36 ÷ 9.6 = 3.75

Sanchez (11.4) last six Gameweeks 40 FPL Points

          40 ÷ 11.4 = 3.5

Hmmmmmm......could Ozil be the best value Arsenal midfielder for those who have turned their back on Sanchez and his enormous price tag?

But if you sell Sanchez for Ozil you'd make a profit, have 1.5 to spend elsewhere and have a player who can compete long term with the player you've sold.

so for example have enough to boost a 4.5 defender to Alonso.

Its about the move but also what you do with the 1.5 itb.

If I sell sanchez it will only be for hazard. I dont think its beneficial to take him out and spend the money in defence.

                      I've sold for Hazard too.

But in looking for Arsenal post MANU Ozil is presenting himself as a viable alternative.

The GW13 fixture is why I don't think Sanchez can be sold for Haz. He will be standout captain then and could do major damage to non owners.

If Giroud returns to the lineup and Sanchez are shifted wide, I might ditch Sanchez. Though not sure with the current mids in my mind (KDB,2 liverpool mid,Hazard,5th mid) how to slot either one of them unless I ditch Lukaku and play 3-5-2.

I've done Sanchez to Ozil as my transfer for this week.

Ozil looking really good and with the other players I have, I won't bother captaining Sanchez anyway due to his inconsistency so to me Ozil makes plenty of sense even though it was a side ways transfer.

This also allows me to fund Lukaku to Kane after Lukaku plays the Swans.

Both Ozil and Sanchez have taken them in that past.

Although as an Ozil owner I hope he doesn't take any as there is more chance of getting negative points from his penalty skills that positive points.

                    That's why I asked.

From memory, Sanchez, Ozil and Wally have taken recent pens and all 3 have missed.

It's interesting to see who would now step up, and like you said I wouldn't be filled with confidence if the one I owned had to take it.

He was on the list to be No 1. Number two was Walcott and No 3 was Ramsey, so we respected the order. It is maybe easier to take a penalty when you have already scored, but he took it well. He practised in training and it showed.

The parameters here allow for two Ozil blanks and two Sanchez hauls to be avoided from GWs 3-5, but six weeks is a decent sample size even if it robs Alexis of some of his allure. On current form, yes, Ozil surpasses Sanchez for value, but I think this comes down to the classic consistency vs explosiveness debate.

I always pay extra for explosiveness, because the more of these options you have, the more you can play with the captaincy. If you want to autopilot two or three captains, then saving on Ozil makes sense, but I want to have at least four each week with so many premiums firing so if I do miss my captain I still have plenty of points rolling in. I've gotten 69 and 70 the past two gameweeks even though I've captained my fifth highest attacker each time.

Having all the best captaincy picks in your team is the strategy I try and implement most seasons in the second half. Its proven to succeed.

This may prove tricky this year with Aguero, Hazard, Costa, Kane Sanchez all costing so much.

I still aspire to do this though. Just need to find the readies.

You could argue Ozil in form is a good captaincy pick.

He's not explosive like Alexis but there is more chance of getting some returns as he picks up points more often rather than in clusters like Sanchez.

I chose Ozil over Sanchez in my gw4 wildcard, and Sanchez outscored Ozil by 11 in these 8 gws. Not worth the massive price change imho.

I've now sold Mesut for Hazard anyways, but Ozil will be close to Sanchez in total points scored this season.

Thinking of going Arsenal-less until/if Giroud becomes a regular starter ... too many better options for reliable points in midfield, and they don't seem to be able to keep a cleansheet either

                This is a non argument.

Theo is easily the best value mid in the game. Possibly the best value player in the game.

                1) Beats Alexis/Ozil on stats.
                2) Beats Alexis/Ozil on the eye test.
                3) Proven FPL pedigree.
                4) 7.6M soon.
                5) Ox is rubbish.
                6) Ramsey isn't a winger.
                7) Theo hasn't done anything to be dropped.
                8) If Gru comes, Iwobi will be sacrficed, Alexis will move left. Theo will stay where he is.

Not anymore Theo was just subbed off early after a poor game. Arsenal are different team with Giroud and Ramsey who will continue to eat into Theo's minutes. Same as last year now only Ozil and Sanchez are nailed in the front 4.

Theo wasn't poor in the game btw. Honestly, i don't see Theo getting rotated. Keeping until he's dropped. Giroud isn't competing with Theo. Theo plays RW. Alexis will move to LW in place of Iwobi. Ramsey will get tried centrally because Cazorla seemingly has a long term injury.

Repeat, there is no better value player in the game.

Depends on the game with Wenger he's not gonna roll out the same front 6 every game changes based on opponents. I just don't see how Theo's situation is any different from last year.

Think best value has been changing rapidly this year was Theo for awhile before the return of their other big guns but it's clearly the Liverpool samba boys now.

Jonty, you have a short memory. Your season took a turn for the worst when you had to perform acrobatics and a triple hit to get Sanchez in. He's so, so difficult to get back in if you sell him. People need to think about it carefully as the consequences can be dire.

I took out Ozil for Hazard, keeping hold of Sanchez, Arsenal have great runs (GW13-15 and 18-23) that I'm very happy to hold onto him for, the less people that have him in the community the happier I will be.
I had a similar start to Jonty and took hits to get Sanchez (although I seem to remember Jonty doing the same, maybe even a -12), so possibly my judgement is a little clouded by him rescuing my poor start. He is the standout option from Arsenal for me, and I have Aguero, Sanchez, Hazard, Coutinho all in my team quite comfortably (352) and still have ~1m cash ITB. Kane will be the big problem for me, but I'm happy to watch and wait for a few weeks yet.

                Walcott = best value

Ozil beats Sanchez for value if you don't plan to captain either.

If you need a Captain from Arsenal than Sanchez beats Ozil.

I posted this earlier, I think its worth a repost

Forget Sanchez and Theo, Ozil is the route into Arsenal Midfield

                1. Nailed in the team, unlike Theo
                2. More affordable, unlike Sanchez
                3. Pitch positions show that he's as ahead if not further up than Sanchez
                4. On most set pieces till Cazorla is fully fit
                5. Isn't on Intl Duty so he'll be fresh
                6. If Giroud comes back, it only improves his assist potential
                7. Points in the last 5 GW (form)
                Sanchez - 26
Wally - 24 (32 if you discount the injured gw)
                Ozil - 26
(Jonty went 1 week further back)

Added to his blistering goalscoring form from the UCL, whats not to like

Disclaimer - I own Ozil. I just can't see why people aren't going for him if they want to make money by selling sanchez.

Here's a graph I made of Sanchez vs Ozil: https://datamo.io/datamo/fantasy-premier-league-top-mids/views/27. Ozil ticks along but Sanchez gets those high scores you want from a captain. So if you want to captain, then keep, otherwise it might be time to ditch Sanchez...

How vital is Hazard? I could get him in for Walcott, but it'd require a massive downgrade of Bellerin (possibly to van der Hoorn, or another 4.3m defender).

CS are hard to come by, only Chelsea kept one last GW.

I dont think it's worth using a FT to clear up deadwood defenders like Collins, Amat, Kingsley, Holgate.

I'd rather get a fat zero than a negative points when facing Liverpool/Chelsea.

I'm sure when the Xmas comes along and your bench is tested, perhaps another 4th/5th defender will come in handy. Even so, there's still the oft talked about urban myth of low probability of CS over Xmas.

Keen to hear thoughts (i've Smith, Collins and Amat, leaving me with Clyne and McAuley)

Having a playing backline is essential. WAT defence gave me a solid 3 CS in a row( double on Hole & Britos). Will not cry about last GW. Further, having them allowed me to get Hazard in GW7, so adding those points made me well above average last GWs.

Red arrow from 11k to 12k. Actually really happy with that considering I had zero Chelsea.

Have done Sterling + Kosc --> Hazard + Brunt -4. Now to hope for the best over the international break. No injuries please.

If you've got 2FT, do it.

Probably for Brunt, or Evans if you're looking to save cash.

I'm getting worried about Allen's minutes at #10 over next few weeks.

I think he'll start there on the whole, but with Shaq, Arnie, Bojan all available soon, Hughes may be tempted to move him back to a holding role.

I may look to bring back Snodgrass as my 5th mid in a 3-5-2 next week.

Snodgrass could be a good option, KoL was making the argument earlier.

Shaq and Arnie will be wide though right? And I think Bojan was being benched for Allen before

Aye, I think Allen will keep his spot for the moment, but could be at risk of being shunted back if chasing a game.

Lets say Walcott keeps his place....is the midfield good enough to warrant the forward line?

                Heaton (Pickford)
Mustafi - Alonso - Lovren (Holebas, Amat)
Hazard - Firmino - Coutinho - Walcott (Capoue)
                Aguero - Bony - Austin

With 0.6 ITB to do Capoue > Allen, but looks like Allen will rise tonight so can't do it.

Bony is not an option for me and unfortunately we can't ignore the elephant in the room. Walcott is no Sanchez and is not nailed.

Midfield is top I think. Walcott has been spoken about on here a lot as a rotation risk, but he's in his best form for years so think Wenger will want to keep his pace on the right flank. Nearly scored a screamer yesterday and stretches teams like no one else in the Arsenal ranks.

Issue is, to upgrade that strike force you need about 2.5/3m, and you're going to probably dump Bony when fixtures turn in 3 gameweeks. As long as you're planning for that (e.g downgrade defence as CS are not happenng) you'll be sorted to bring in someone for Bony then.

You've got quite a few issues across your team in the long-term though (Williams, Stones, Kelly, Eriksen, Bolasie, Cabaye, Rash) , so I'd consider just doing one change and then doing a triple change next week to ship your Everton players for a hit along the lines of:

This week: Rashford > Anichbe (1 week punt, frees cash and move to 3-5-2)

                      Williams + Bolasie + Eriksen > Hazard + Snodgrass + Alonso (-4)

Then ship Cabaye to Gundogan/Allen etc week after.

You've seen us play this season right? 🙁

He'll be rotated with Ramsey/Giroud soon.

                      a) Keep Walker?
                      b) Shift to Alonso for a -4?

                        Keep for a -4.

Esentially you would need Alonso to get a CS or an assist/goal just to get 2 points.

Definitely keep. He's got 4 brilliant home games over next 6 GWs.

Capoue should've got double digits yesterday.

A bit miffed he missed that 1v1 - I actually played him for once.

Am I crazy to stick with this starting front 7 and wait on getting Hazard?

                      Sanchez Firmino Coutinho Allen Sterling
                      Aguero Lukaku

Not crazy at all. It's not an obvious decision to get Hazard in for Sanchez

I'd save a FT but look to ship Sterling for Hazard by at least GW 15, if not before.

Sell if you're upgrading to Pool/Hazard otherwise I'd probably keep this week.

This new system Chelsea are playing is going to see goals and lots of them. Happy as a Costa/Haz owner. Only player I need to sit behind the sofa for now will be Firmino.

You know you're going to have to end up putting another sofa behind your sofa to get comfortable.

Firmino's going to score a lot of points this season.

Can't have them all. But seriously, double up on sofas for comfort reasons. 😉

People really think Ramsey and Ox are threatening Walcott atm? Wow...

Sure if his form dips for a couple more weeks, he will be in trouble. But for now? Can't see it.

If you are an Arsenal fan you should know Rambo could easily take his spot. You need to stop blinding your judgement purely as you are an owner.

Yes he could but not imminently. Ramsey was terrible vs Tottenham.
