Five players plunged from the Suspension Tightrope in Gameweek 11, and there was a big name with big ownership figures among them.

Nobody comes bigger than Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.1), according to the man himself at least, but his fifth booking of the season was a kick in the teeth for the 28.8% of Fantasy Premier League managers who have stuck by him through thin and thinner in recent weeks.

The Swede finally broke his six-match league goal drought with a brace in the 3-0 win at Swansea City, only to pick up the caution that means he will sit out the home clash with Arsenal which follows the current international break.

The subsequent fixtures – West Ham and Spurs at home, Everton away – are a mixed bag, suggesting that many more FPL managers will finally cut their losses on Zlatan, particularly those needing to find the funds to bring the red-hot Eden Hazard (10.1) into their squads.

More than 70,000 managers have already jettisoned Ibrahimovic since the weekend – only Raheem Sterling (8.1) has been ditched by more.

Two popular defenders will also miss Gameweek 12.

The 12.8%-owned Bournemouth man Adam Smith’s (4.8) second consecutive booking tipped him over the disciplinary edge and out of a trip to Stoke. With Arsenal away and Liverpool at The Vitality Stadium to follow, it looks like a good time to be off Bournemouth defenders, however.

Watford’s 9.3%-owned Jose Holebas (4.8) had been precariously balanced on the tightrope for four Gameweeks and finally succumbed during the 6-1 drubbing by Liverpool.

His parting shot prior to a ban for the visit of Leicester was a -2 score, but the 380,000+ managers with Holebas in their squads might want to hold on to him as Watford, who had kept three consecutive clean sheets before the Anfield massacre, go on to face Stoke and Everton at home and West Brom away.

The former Greek international’s fall from grace leaves Diego Costa (10.5) as the longest surviving tightrope treader. He’s now played six straight matches, including an EFL Cup substitute appearance, with the threat of a ban hanging over him.

Gareth Barry (4.6), who made it a seventh consecutive Premier League season with five or more bookings, and Mark Noble (6.2) were the other two tightrope tumblers. The Hammers’ captain has been booked five times domestically in every season back to ’07/08, including a year in The Championship.

And Sunderland midfielder Steven Pienaar’s (4.9) two yellows at Bournemouth also preclude him from Gameweek 12 action.

Joe Allen’s (5.4) stock has been rising since a Gameweek 6 goal against West Brom.

The Stoke midfielder now has 18.2% of FPL managers backing him, but is one yellow away from a ban following a caution in Saturday’s draw at West Ham just as he looks poised to benefit from a strong fixture run into December involving Bournemouth and Burnley at home and Watford away.

Joining him on the tightrope is Sunderland’s Lynden Gooch (4.3).

The duo will find little space on the rope, as there are a number of occupants still teetering: Paul Pogba (8.2); Aleksandar Kolarov (5.8); Danny Rose (5.9); Yohan Cabaye (5.6); Sam Clucas (4.7); Danny Simpson (4.9); Valon Behrami (4.5); Craig Dawson (4.8); Marouane Fellaini (5.8); Robert Huth (5.0); Jan Vertonghen (5.7) and Ryan Shawcross (4.9).

Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko (6.7) is available again after doing his time for violent conduct, while United’s Ander Herrera (6.3), Everton’s Idrissa Gueye (5.0), Middlesbrough’s Gaston Ramirez (5.3), Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic (7.2), West Brom’s James McClean (5.0) and West Ham centre-half Winston Reid (5.0) are also back in contention next time out.

Hull City striker Adama Diomande (4.6) is now two matches into his three-stretch for striking an opponent in the EFL Cup.

The Men In Black
The four penalties awarded in the Gameweek slightly bucked the trend of the 3.3 (now 3.4) average per round of fixtures.

All were converted, by Jermain Defoe (three from three), Charlie Austin (two from two) and a first penalty success for the returning Harry Kane. Christian Benteke made it one from two for Crystal Palace, the Eagles’ first successful penalty from three attempts this season.

Middlesbrough remain the only team not to have been awarded a penalty, and Boro are one of two teams yet to concede a spot-kick. Palace are the other.

Mike Dean delivered a table-topping seventh penalty award of the season, from nine matches in charge. He now leads the averages all on his own at 0.78 penalties per match.

There was no outing for Roger East (0.75 from four) and a blank for Michael Oliver (0.60 from 10) to leave them trailing in Dean’s punishing wake.

Mark Clattenburg (three in seven), Martin Atkinson (two in nine) and Graham Scott (one in 2 two) were the other men pointing to the spot while simultaneously waving away the protests.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Team balance.

How are you currently or looking to set up your team in terms of spreading the cash across the positions.

Are you looking for balance - with premium options in def, midfield and attack.

Or are you keen to stick with a popular tactic of investing heavily in midfield, supplemented either by a cheap defence, a cheap third striker or both

And what of goalkeepers - is the era of the budget stopper soon to end, with Mannone and Butland set to return and Jakupovic already lost his place?

Are we also seeing the problems of going too cheap in defence with Amat losing his place, yet still popular among top managers.

Where is your cash going over the coming weeks - even spread, or still focused in midfield?

On a wildcard. My thinking is the second striker is going to be very important. Rotate between kane Costa Ibra and maybe hopefully Giroud.

      Aiming for this

      Heaton Robinson
      Alonso Cedric Friend Nyom 3.9
Walcott Haz Cout Firm de Roon
      Aguero Costa Austin

Very similar to what I want to do, with the exact same front seven. I just need to get rid of Redmond and Benteke to Walcott and Austin, but saving my FT for now.

Fair play for still having your wildcard like.

Only one Premium in Alonso and the rest are around 4.5-5 marks alongside Amat who needs replacing. Walker/Arsenal Def are not worthy anymore.

Going with the no Aguero plan since wildcarding didn't hurt that much yet even after the Wba game got a green arrow with Lukaku and Costa. Spending heavy on mid with KDB Sanchez in.

Heaton+Robinson since gw1 has been the best choice so far this season.

Cash will still be going in the mids with Hazard firing, Arsenal fixture at gw13, International Injury scares.

I have been on 3-5-2 for weeks but I am moving away from it. It is too restrictive - you need three striker spots for flexibility around captaincy options like Lukaku this week, perhaps even Giroud next.

In defence, though, I think budget is fine. I have had both Kingsley and Amat for weeks. If one keeps their place, I'm fine for now - the one week I started Amat and he didn't play, I got a McCauley goal off the bench.

So it's the same as usual really. 3-4-3 prevails, but perhaps a tad more money in attack on the bench every week, because of the value offered by Gundogan, Allen and Snod.

I think I'll eventually be doing Lukaku to Austin to free up funds and improve team. Will try and scrape through this GW and see how far I can continue with my cheap defence.

I have a very 'traditional' set up starting with a bench of a 4.0m keeper, a 4.0 def, a 4.5 def, and a 4.5 mid. The cash is on the pitch.
Amat is a bit of a concern which may have to be resolved for the December games.
I'd say I have a relatively even distribution of funds, Lallana as fourth mid, Austin as third striker, and currently with enough cash to upgrade to a premium def for December, likely to be Alonso or Spurs, whichever feels right in a few weeks.

Well the cash has gone into midfield certainly and apart from Alonso the defence is very cheap. I suspect this is the ideal scenario for a lot of people.

Question might be more like this

      A) 2 heavy Fwds & 3 heavy Mids
      or
      B) 1 heavy Fwd & 4 heavy Mids

I've gone for B) simply because I have more faith in the strikers in the 6-7m range than mids in the same price range. Mainly because the strikers in that price range seem more nailed on and consistent. I also can't see past Sanchez, Hazard, Coutinho & Firmino.

Now eventually those of us still with Amat will need to upgrade him but we will all be making transfers in the coming weeks (obviously) so at some point we will find ourselves with some spare cash to make a minor upgrade to a starting defender at least. A boring but necessary transfer at some point in the near future.

MOTD did some pretty good analysis on Luiz in the Conte system.
They noted that he only really had moments of madness when he was trying to play the ball.
        In the new system, he is the central and deepest defender;
where his one and only job is to defend (something that he's quite good at).

I'm fully set on keeping my cheap (injured/suspended) defence, my money is tied up in midfield and attack.

      Heaton, Pickford;
      Brunt, Smith, Holebas, Cameron, Amat;
      KDB, Hazard, Firmino, Coutinho, de Roon;
      Aguero, Lukaku, Austin.

Took a -12 last weekend (which paid off immediately): Son, Walcott, Deeney, Valencia > KDB, Hazard, Austin, Brunt.
My plan for this week's transfer is to get McAuley in for Smith and rep double WBA, alongside a hopefully fit and starting Cameron.

Loaded up on the front 7 up from in 343. Budget defence. Nothing on the bench.

IMO, greater consistency in midpriced midfield.
Currently going cheap in defence, have hope but no expectations.

      Currently on.

      Heaton (jaku)
Holebas - Smith - Coleman (amat - kingsley)
Haz - Fimino - Coutinho - gundogan (Allen)
      Aguero-Costa-Lukaku

I have a slightly different spread to many here and think I am slightly more cautious than the crowd. Generally I don't go down to 4.0 unless they are regular starters but currently have the following:

      5.5 // 4.0
      6.1 // 5.0 // 4.5 // 4.5 // 4.1
      11.4 // 10.1 // 8.7 // 5.4 // 5.1
      13.1 // 9.8 // 6.7

Now, having a 5.1 as my cheapie is really only because I picked Capoue at the season's start and swapped him for Allen when his sale price and Allen's purchase price were both 4.8. When his fixtures run out in a month, I'll consider downgrading one of my 5ish million players. Otherwise, this structure is pretty typical for me, players at different price points, couple of cheapies, everyone playing (except Amat but he isn't a priority right now). I like having to pick who to play and who to captain rather than fixing my team in a rigid structure that is hard to move away from.

    17. Balotelli

      Current team:
      Heaton/Pickford
      Clyne/Morgan/Kone/Amat/Pieters
      De Bruyne/Sterling/Walcott/Coutinho/Hoejbjerg
      Aguero/Lukaku/Austin

      Rnd 12: Save transfer
Rnd 13: Lukaku and Hoejbjerg to Vokes and Mid in price-range 7.0-7.4'ish (Lallana/Siggy/etc)
      Rnd 14: Aguero to Kane
      Rnd 15: Sterling to Hazard

So my plan is more or less to switch the expensive strikers whose fixtures aren't that good to a heavy midfield which I consider less prone to rotation and whose fixtures looks preferable.

My decision hinges on the fitness of Sanchez after these 2 international games with Chile.

If he is left unscathed after these 2 games, I would probably stick with my current premium mids, cheap 5th mid and cheap 3rd striker with cheap defenders overall.

However, if Sanchez goes down injured for a period of time, then I'll upgrade my defenders, but still allow me the chance to have KDB in my lineup and an upgrade to my def to a prolly Chelsea defender.

My forward line looks to be intact with Lukaku, Costa and Austin.

As for the goalkeeper, is Mannone returning? Man, I don't know about that. If he replaces Pickford and Butland replaces Grant(almost surely), then there'll be no more 4.0-4.2 playing goalkeeper. That's gonna be the end of it I guess.

I see your point, but Liverpool honestly don't have an awful defence. Just tend to have the habit of conceding a goal a game due to their crazy attack focus. If they continue to destroy teams like they're doing, scoring many goals, they can win the league.

I'd been going cheap on defence since GW3 wildcard - max. 5.0 Williams but brought in Mustafi GW8.
Was getting nothing back in terms of defensive returns - odd assist, few CSs .
Team had been loaded on mids & forwards.

    Normally like a balanced side.

So I have now sold Aguero.
    Gone from:
    Foster/Pickford
    Williams/Mustafi/Cameron/A.Smith/Amat
    Firmino/coutinho/Sterling/Walcott/Allen
    Kun/Benteke/Lukaku

    Now.
    Foster/Pickford
    Mustafi/Alonso/Fuchs/A.Smith/Amat
    Hazard/Firmino/Coutinho/Walcott/Allen
    Costa/Lukaku/Austin

    Much happier with balance.
    Multiple Captaincy options.
More options to bring back Kun if I have to.
Have gone without Kun before so doesn't worry me.
I may miss out on the odd Kun haul but i have a lot more players now that can contribute every week.

genuinely believe I can pick up good points from all parts of the team on a consistent basis.
Got plenty of captaincy options that can get double figures.
We've seen Firmino, Coutinho and Hazard can match Sanchez and KDB.
I'd hope my defence could pick 6-8 pts a week more than those packed with cheapies.
So all I'm betting against is Aguero maybe getting the odd hat-trick.

So I have now sold Aguero.
    Gone from:
    Foster/Pickford
    Williams/Mustafi/Cameron/A.Smith/Amat
    Firmino/coutinho/Sterling/Walcott/Allen
    Kun/Benteke/Lukaku

    Now.
    Foster/Pickford
    Mustafi/Alonso/Fuchs/A.Smith/Amat
    Hazard/Firmino/Coutinho/Walcott/Allen
    Costa/Lukaku/Austin

    Much happier with balance.
    Multiple Captaincy options.
More options to bring back Kun if I have to.
Have gone without Kun before so doesn't worry me.
I may miss out on the odd Kun haul but i have a lot more players now that can contribute every week.

Nyom has more competition for his place with Brunt and Galloway. Evans looks pretty nailed on.

Should I bring in De Bruyne to Sanchez for -4?

    Pickford (Grant)
    Francis, Holebas*, Gibson, Love, Amat
    Hazard, Sanchez*, Coutinho, Firmino, (Hojbjerg)
    Lukaku, Aguero, Austin

Was planning just to do Holebas to McAuley, but now Sanchez could be out for 6 weeks some people say?

How likely is Phil Jones (4.7) to become an option? Not bad for that price for a Mourinho defender.

Actually, he very well could be. Blind has made error after error and I hope he stays out of the team for a while. Smalling getting criticised and Rojo being terrible leaves Jones + Bailly. And Bailly is out for a while too.

      Good punt

I'm interested to see how this goes too. I posted this yesterday but got lost (or ignored). TV up to 104.2 now and Siggy may have dropped?

      Thoughts on this.

Early days, but given Mourinho's comments on Shaw and Smalling along with the return to the starting XI of Phil Jones, what are the expectations of him nailing down a place at 4.7m. He seems to have the temperament of a Mourinho player and I remember an article in summer quoting that he could be Utd's John Terry. Injury magnet though.

I'm tinkering with my team looking forward and thinking going long-term 3-5-2 with this. TV is very nice at the moment at 104.1.

      Pickford (Grant)
      Alonso Jones Holebas (Kingsley Wilson)
      Hazard Sanchez Firmino Sigurdsson Redmond
      Aguero Kane (Anichebe)

I'm 4 transfers away from this and currently 0.1 short but good chance of finding it before moving on assets. Going out would be Rashford, Allen, Lukaku and Clyne.

Rondon worth it for Rashford or just build towards 3-5-2?

really nobody i fancy in that third spot.

    Current front five is:-

    Allen Hazard Ilkay Coutinho Firmino
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

only brought in Hazard this week so no Arsenal is an issue.

What's my AOA strategy for next game week?

Coutinho Firmino Allen Aguero Costa Lukaku plus:

    A) Sanchez Pieters Capoue Dawson (-4)
    B) Hazard Pieters Capoue Alonso (-8)
    C) Hazard Pieters Snodgrass Amat/Hernandez (-8)

A if Sanchez fit, but an aggressive C or sturdy B to claw the points back? Likely that I'll be priced out of B soon so this option available for a limited time only.

One (small) advantage of not having Costa is I can double up on Chelsea defence. Really feel like I have to, to try and make a small advantage now after for all those lost points from Costa

As in, they are all decent assets, but Chelsea defence is far more appealing for me. And 5.1 I guess is not bad if playing a 352, but I'd want to be aiming a little higher than that
