The rush to acquire Eden Hazard on the back of last week’s performance against Everton has been a key issue for our hot topic posters this week.

Chelsea’s in-form midfielder also took centre stage in our community articles round up, after he helped one of our scribes win top honours for his soothsaying skills.

Elsewhere, we get the latest on the state of Alexis Sanchez’ injury straight from Chile and found out what we can learn from the elite managers at the summit of our Hall of Fame.

Finally we check in on those who are also doing well in our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Since its launch last month, YMA’s regular Gameweek captaincy analysis article has had a 100% success rate in predicting the best candidate for the armband.

Using a combination of bookies odds, form and fixtures, Hazard’s triumphant Gameweek 11 became his latest success story, with the Belgian’s 19-point Fantasy Premier League haul easily trumping Captain Poll leader Sergio Aguero. With this in mind it was no surprise to see YMA win your vote for the best community writer of October.

We eagerly await his next prediction next week.

Meanwhile, it was Hazard’s team-mate Diego Costa who emerges as one of the stars of TM245’s latest look at whether explosiveness or consistency is the best way to pick a captain.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With such an impressive Gameweek 11, Hazard has been drafted in by more than 216,000 FPL managers at the time of writing and is on his way to a third price rise since last weekend. As our hot topic on the Belgian’s recent good form shows, many in the community have been willing to take early hits to secure his services.

One of the players to make way has been Alexis Sanchez, after it emerged he picked up an injury during international training. Fortunately, we were given an up to date, accurate report from Chile, thanks to regular poster RuberX, who is based there.

Even without injury concerns, Sanchez’ high price of 11.3 means many in the community were looking elsewhere for Arsenal coverage, with Mesut Ozil among the more budget friendly alternatives. Our hot topic on the German revealed that, in terms of value, he is more than a match for his Chilean team-mate.

The need to draft in Hazard is so great that some should even consider unsaddling Fantasy Football white knight Sergio Aguero from their teams, according to Rhino

Without two free transfers such a move would require a hit, which for many in the community has become a key way to climb up the rankings. Anon’s discussion on spending points looked at some of your successes and failures in adopting this tactic.

One group that rarely has the need for hits is the top ten of the Hall of Fame.

Our analysis of their strategies found their forward planning is so good some even have time to regular save their FPL transfers to ensure they can make two at a time without the need to spend points. Leaf pondered whether this elite group of veterans’ dull approach to the game can ever be beaten as a tactic for success.

During our HoF analysis it emerged that half of the Hall of Fame top ten have already made transfers, indicating that Hazard has been secured early ahead of Chelsea’s kind run that starts in Gameweek 15. We looked in detail at this point in the season, as it also marks a significant switch in the fixtures for a number of other teams.

This HoF analysis also showed that many elite managers are relying on their selection of Jordan Pickford (4.1) to see off the imminent threat of Vito Mannone for a place in Sunderland’s starting XI. The Italian returned to action this week for the Black Cats’ reserve side and prompted us to ask whether you are also relying heavily on a bargain basement stopper.

The Members Tables

Last week I carried out an experiment in my goals imminent table to see if Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s failure to convert any of his many big chances was a temporary blip or part of a season long problem.

With a brace at Swansea, the former turned out to be the case and my Zlatan rule of ‘miss four big chances and you’re out’ has been duly abandoned. With humble pie duly scoffed, the latest goals imminent table can be found here.

For those in the market for an attacking defender Robbie Lynch’s latest table looks at the best options, sorted by chances created.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Recruitment was in full swing during the week to take part in forthcoming community team contest the Fantasy Chili Bowl, says Jarvish’s latest update.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 39, which saw 142 players depart and 1848 remain with entry currently open.

Facer continues to lead the the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league but the real star of the Gameweek was Red Lightning who scored 94 FPL points and leapt around one million places up the rankings. This impressive tally followed a risky, but ultimately rewarding, 40 point hit over October.

Meanwhile in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season league Sahil Sud has retained top spot.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

to anyone else frustrated with players not being flagged back as available even after they are declared fit or even play for their national team (Walker and Lukaku in the past). I just contacted FPL admin.. fingers crossed 🙂

"Hello, Kyle Walker was marked as injured in FPL and even though he played a full 90 minute game for England today on 11 November, he is still marked as injured. Please kindly remove the injury flag so as to not unfairly influence unnecessary sales and eventual price drop of the player. Is it possible for the FPL administration team to act as quickly as they do when marking players as injured to mark them as available when the players become available? Currently the system is more speedy at flagging players as injured but not as quick to mark them available, even after they have played a game for their national team. Thank you!"

During the spells under Mancini and Pellegrini, City have made the Etihad a fortress. They are a team that scores a lot of goals and usually thrash the smaller teams. The big scores were usually at home thoughand not so frequently away from home. Under Pep this has changed a bit and they are performing better away from home. I find that puzzling because Pep teams usually destroy teams at home not away.

      City at home
      -Games played: 6
      -Goals scored: 12
      -Average goals per game: 2
      -Form: 3W 3D

      City away from home
      -Games played: 5
      -Goals scored: 13
      -Average goals per game: 2.6
      -Form: 4W 1L

As we can see, there is a big gap between home and away form in terms of goals scored. I know the sample size is small and it is too soon to get to a conclusion but it still gives some indication to form home and away. City drew their last 3 at home scoring only 3 goals. On paper, they had tougher fixtures away against possible top 4 contenders (Spurs and Utd) and none of the possible top 4 at home.

Logically, the difference between home and away form would affect the returns of their star man or maybe it is the opposite. Aguero's difference in home and away form is deciding to whether City perform better at home or away.

      Aguero at home
      -Games played: 5
      -Goals scored: 0.4
      -Average goals per game: 0.4
      -Double figure scores: 0
      -Points per game: 3.4

      Aguero away from home
      -Games played: 4
      -Goals scored: 6
      -Average goals per game: 1.5
      -Double figure scores: 3
      -Points per game: 11

The difference between home and away form for Aguero is staggering and shocking. In fact Aguero has only blanked once away from home (Spurs) and has scored a brace and max baps in every other away game. Quite strange for a player who has historically performed way better at home for City. This looks well for his owners at the moment. His next 2 games are Palace and Burnely. Palace are rubbish defensively (zero CSs this season). Burnley are solid and have super Heaton but can they keep out Man City? I very much doubt that. Kun is looking like a fantastic captain option for GW12. The risk is that he will have a lot of traveling to do. So far, he hasn't started the 1st of the international games against Brazil and got only 30 minutes so he is not tired. If he gets just 70 minutes against Palace, he can wreak havoc. Non owners better buy a big sofa for the next 2 GWs 🙂

This. Pep's team will always impose its attacking style. At home, teams will sit back and wait for City to come to them. Away from home, City get more chances to counter attack and exploit spaces.

That benching was to do with other factors I think, given he was also benched against Barcelona shortly after and Pep made comments about him needing to alter his game.

He's delivered that alteration by creating more chances so while yes there is always a risk of being benched post international, he will be back in training from Thursday - whereas those in the Brazil squad play on the Wed night so won't be back until Friday for training. I'd say they are at risk.

Aguero has come back from these international games before and excelled.

Also worth noting that his October benching was after Argentina played on Wed night - so he won't have returned until Friday. He has an extra day this time. Unless he's injured I really can't see him being benched with a match on tues - rather than the wed - for his country.

Good move. If you are going Aguero less then I think KDB is a must. I know "coverage" can be frowned on but his assists can mitigate an Aguero haul.

Jonty, there is a 1 hour difference between when Argentina played in October and when they play this time. Both were Tuesday evening local time. It makes zero difference in terms of when Aguero gets back.

As for "other reasons" - well you can always find them. What were the "other reasons" behind Sterling being left out last weekend?

Pep is unpredictable in terms of team selection, that has been the case throughout his managerial career. Let's leave it at that. I don't claim to have any insider knowledge of who will play when.

Sterling is a player City can live without though and have cover for. With Aguero it is different. Pep should know after benching Aguero and not working for him that he has no chance of winning the title without Aguero firing on all cylinders. City cannot afford more setbacks. Another thing is that Aguero is getting limited minutes with Argentina so he should not be tired. His case is not similar to Coutinho's for example who plays a lot with Brazil.

                  Owners bias.

Pep rested sterling home to boro and it cost him three points. You say kun is his most important player, pep might think it is kolorov for all we know.

I agree with Jonty on this. Aguero slightly changed his game after Pep's comments of demanding more from him. He presses more for example and more recent comments from Aguero seem to indicate he has patched up his relationship with Pep. Also benching Kun backfired in a big way in Pep's face. They lost at Camp Nou and drew against Everton. Things could have been different if Kun had started given City created many chances in those 2 games. I am not saying benching Kun is why Barca blew them away or why they drew with Everton but is is certainly a factor. City are no longer top and their fixtures are kind of mixed. Pep cannot afford to drop any more points. I think Kun will start and play 60-70 minutes if City are cruising.

Yep - I think this is the key difference between last time. He is key to City and he's followed Pep's advice.

If Pep benched every player that had an international outside of Europe he'd struggle to get a team out.

Great work, I appreciate the effort however I'm not sure 11 games is big enough sample size to derive conclusions from.

3 of the 5 away games for City were Stoke, Swansea and WBA which may be influencing those numbers

Something definitely to keep an eye on though, lets see if this pattern continues when we hit the halfway mark of the season

        Cheers

They play Sunderland, Westham, Bournemouth and Boro at home. All on paper easy fixtures as well. I believe this pattern will not continue. Not necessarily a dip in a way form but home form has to improve. Home form is where Pep has always won trophies. With Barca and with Bayern.

I have a few questions that i would love your answer on. On a wildcard. This is the shoed in team for reference.

      xx xx
      Alonso xx Friend Nyom 3.9
Haz Theo Firmino Coutinho De Roon
      Aguero xx Austin

      1) Pick one of the two options:

      a) Sunderland keepers + Kane
      b) Burnley keepers + Costa

      2) For the second defender spot

      a) Brunt
      b) Cedric
      c) Start with Brunt now (BUR hul WAT che SWA) then switch to Cedric (LIV EVE cpl)

      3) Any better cheap defender options?

      4) Punt on Chadli instead of Theo? (I LOVE THEO)

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

      Template v Differentials

Looking at those leading the Hall of Fame and many others leading FPL I was surprised given the wide choice how a template had indeed emerged.

Double Liverpool midfield, Hazard in for many. Walcott. Allen, Aguero and one of Lukaku or Costa with Austin as a likely third striker.

      But what of the differentials?

Which players do you think should be brought in from now to offer the chance to either supplement the current template or even beat it.

I'll go first with a couple.

Kane - fixtures are reasonable and I think he offers a great captaincy alternative.

KDB - still low ownership and many are swerving as they already have the even more expensive Aguero. But could a double up of these two MCI heavyweights bring in the points?

I'm on a wildcard. The non common picks i am going for are (as things stand):

        - Sunderland keepers instead of Heaton
        - Theo instead of Alexis
        - Kane instead of Costa/Ibra/Kaku (2nd striker)
        - Brunt as my 2nd defender for the next three

Template busters that will show up soon:
Mkhitaryan. Mata. Siggy. Swans striker. Van Der Hoorn.

          Good list.

I want Kane - but not sure I can afford him.

Siggy will be mine, oh yes, mine I say. GWK 15 pencilled in for that.

On Theo watch GWK 12 v ManU. He doesn't have to score - just put in the stats and last more than 70 mins is good enough for me.

Only problem I have to getting Siggy is having Lallana - if he keeps up his recent performances I may have to keep him. Sensational again last night - and was brilliant last weekend - especially as a FPL asset.

So therefore Lallana remains another template buster on current form.

Very underrated. But i have too much value attached with Cout and Firm and no reason to switch on WC.

I'm very keen on a 10.7M striker in the second striker position. Have Kane for the next 3 and switch to Costa is my thinking.

Hopefully Costa will have served his ban by then.

Payet is something of a differential this season.

Playing in a poor West Ham team but capable of regular assists and goal threat.

I also like it when a differential is the standout player in a fairly poor team as anything decent that they do attack wise will inevitably involve the player in question - Sigurdsson & Snodgrass are good examples.

Payet is too expensive for a player in, as you say, 'a poor West Ham team'. He simply cannot compete with players in his price range. All the Liverpool mids, for one, are cheaper than him. He has been overpriced.

The Liverpool midfielders aren't differentials though. And price is relative to performance - if Payet delivers the sort of points we all know he's capable of then he's worth that price.

        My differentials are
Son- with Kane in the team, I think he will perform better

Lallana - Switched from mane to him for a hit this week. Considering 3 Liverpool mid next week.

Next week it will be a toss up between ibra and Kane.

Also going to watch wally closely. He is already on my team but he has to perform this week.

Kane is a virtual certainty for for me but probably from GW14, let him get some match fitness first. I think a Spurs attacker from GW14/16 will be highly advisable given their favourable Xmas schedule, Alli/Eriksen could be alternatives.

As for KDB, I don't want any City midfielders. I don't trust Guardiola's rotation. Aguero or no-one.

United have a great run of games from GW16-23, Zlatan could be great during that period as could Mata. Their chance creation has been right up there even through the sticky run. Maybe they have just been a bit unlucky. Certainly were against Burnley.

I think in midfield the Arsenal and City boys (KdB, Sterling, Özil or Walcott) look good bets. Then there's the forgotten man Mahrez who could be a good differential if he finds some form. Pedro worth a mention as well if looking to double up with Hazard.

In attack Kane seems to be a popular differential option. Another noteworthy option though still highly owned but sort of a differential in these parts nowadays is Ibra.

I think the bigger problem is finding space for these players with the current popular picks delivering.

With Xmas approaching, I think it is better to invest in nailed on players with good fitness and intergral to their team. Kane and Siggy are good options. Walcott and Lallana likely to be rotated so it could backfire. KDB seems to be nailed but you never know with Pep as Ruth said.

        Ozil, Brunt and Benteke.

Ozil in particular should be very profitable starting next week.

And it sure would be nice if Cech would stop conceding one soft goal a game. Feel so let down only getting 2 clean sheets from him over such a kind run of games.

Since all the midfield positions are taken, Chris Brunt is a nice alternative at the back. With great fixtures and set pieces as well. What about his secureties of starts when both McLean and Chadli is back? Left back instead of Nyom? West Brom fans, what do you think?

Way down in OR but have KDB and Aguero so hoping these two deliver as you say.

Although I'm seriously considering Aguero -> Kane gw16 onwards. Kane should be back and banging them in by then and I hope with good fixtures he can score close to what Kun would.

Also thinking of doing Kosc -> cresswell then too. WH fixtures improve and cresswell should get assists.

If it's a FT and no other pressing needs then go get Snoddy.

Yeh been wondering about that. Still playing with the formation. 442 dropping Wilson is in my thoughts.

        Nacer Chadli
        Injury: Knee

        Expected back: November 21 – Burnley (h)

The club’s record signing missed last weekend’s win over Leicester after undergoing minor knee surgery to trim away from cartilage and has been withdrawn from the Belgium squad.

“He’s doing pretty well,” said Dr Gillett. “He had a bit of wear and tear around the meniscus on his knee. In the Manchester City game he wasn’t quite at 100 per cent.

“With this being the last international break before the winter we wanted to get it done so he went for surgery in Belgium which has gone extremely well.

“He should be available for selection for the Burnley game. He’s progressing well and he’s in contention. Whether he’s picked for that game after the last result we’ll wait and see.

“We’ve let him go back to Belgium with someone we know quite well. We’ve been keeping in video contact with him, but he’s back this weekend.

“Every international break there’s a lot of players away. It’s motivating for them, to go back home. It helps his recovery, helps his state of mind. That sense of well-being is always really helpful.”
