Our final article reviewing the updated Watchlist rankings, having assessed the changes among the goalkeepers, defenders and midfield over the past week, takes a look at the recent rise and falls up front.

For those new to the site, the Watchlist is designed to offer a view on our current mid-term player recommendations, based on the prospects spanning the next four-to-six Gameweeks.

You will find our current Watchlist standings in your right-hand menu on desktop and mobile.

The big news among the forwards sees the return of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane to the reckoning.

Given he’s owned by just 5.6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bosses, Kane has the potential to shake things up, having scored 25 and 21 goals in his previous two campaigns.

Spurs face four potentially profitable home fixtures (WHM, SWA, HUL, BUR) in the next six, though two tough away trips to Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, along with the fact he may take some time to build up his match sharpness, leads to him achieve a mid-table position in our rankings for now.

There’s no change at the top, with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero announcing a return to form with three goals and an assist in his last two outings.

While Chelsea’s Diego Costa has been more consistent than the Argentine and is kinder on the budget, the fact that he remains on the Suspension Tightrope, plus he’s competing with the Eden Hazard option in our squads, limits his ability to topple Aguero.

We remain faithful to Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, with the blank against Chelsea almost understandable given the Blues’ current run of clean sheets.

However, the Belgian does face a tough run of fixtures from Gameweek 13 onwards that will test his consistency. While he’s demonstrated the ability to maintain a high scoring rate, he is perhaps the most vulnerable of the heavy-hitting forwards given the turn in Everton’s fixtures and the clamour to fund further investment in midfield.

Elsewhere, Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe and Southampton’s Charlie Austin remain our preferred mid-price choices.

Despite all of Sunderland’s travails, Defoe has continued to deliver and has been involved in 77% of the Black Cats’ goals.

While Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Sofiane Boufal may rival Austins’ role in Southampton’s front three, there’s little doubt that the former QPR man is the Saints’ most natural goalscorer.

His predatory instincts mean he’s unlikely to be usurped by Boufal’s eventual installation into the starting XI, and should he score against Liverpool tomorrow, he’d be in line for another climb in our rankings ahead of some improving fixtures.

Another mid-price option on the rise is West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon. He enjoys four strong fixtures (BUR, hul, WAT, SWA) in the next five to rival both Defoe and Austin, although the fact he has surrendered spot-kick duties to Nacer Chadlis does slightly limit his appeal. Rondon may well be on penalties on Monday night against Burnley should Chadli miss out through injury.

A new face towards the bottom of our standings is Burnley’s Sam Vokes, who looks a viable option for those Fantasy managers who are considering opting for a 3-5-2, but with an active option in attack.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is, almost inevitably, the major faller on the Watchlist. He slips to the lower reaches given he’s suspended for tomorrow’s clash against Arsenal.

With the dominance of the names at the top, and the current trend towards considering a two-man attack, the Swede seems unlikely to recover too much ground upon his return over the coming weeks.

Was set do A, but now concerned over Martina's starting spot (short term hammering this gw and long term out of favor to Cedric). What to do?

    Foster
    Martina Stones Vertonghen
    Firmino Coutinho Hazard Allen
    Costa Aguero Lukaku

    (Grant, Capoue Holebas WrongSmith)

    A) Vertonghen Capoue ➡ Alonso DeRoon -4

Talk about sensationalism, FFS. If you actually read Guardiola quote in the article pertaining to resting players, you'll see that Aguero is not in contention for a rest:

“The players who played 90 minutes and (another) 90 minutes are tired - especially the South American players - but even the English and even the German players, but that is normal, so tomorrow we will decide."

Aguero only played 45 minutes so doesn't fall under this.

But, hey, if you can't flag the player, do the next best thing to cause panic about his availability.

With all due respect, I'd have to conclude that you didn't have a basic liberal arts education if you came to that conclusion. Go take a class in logic if you're still at school/college/university.

this site is turning into a joke, what made up spin can we adopt next, and worst of all it has been approved with a hot topic.............its like loose women have taken over ffs

I have written and then deleted at least 3 posts on the subject. It's falling on deaf ears.

Lack of logic, subjectivity, sensationalism, froth, stubborn insistence that black is white...

                  It's disappointing.

What an absolute joke. The article you link has misunderstood Pep's words to create a headline and get ppl to share it just like this. He says players who have played 180 mins are tired - Kun has played 45. Second spin exercise in a week, if you cry Wolf too many times you start losing credibility.

I really don't understand how this was HT'ed. Aguero doesn't even fall within the parameters of the players Pep is talking about.

Aguero sat on the bench for Argentina, he's not tired. He's bagged 3 double digit hauls in 4 away games.

Mods still have this stickied? Loving the confirmation bias & subsequent bias to hot-topic these threads by the mod team 😆 This is ridiculous.

Okay, I'm removing the HT from this because folk are misinterpreting this as FFS endorsement of the article rather than us highlighting any discussion around it.

        I've addressed this here..

Afternoon all. Are we fairly confident that Couts either starts or misses out all together? Last thing I need right now is a cameo appearance.

I would say that is the likely outcome... a bench appearance wouldn't make a great deal of sense..

I currently have both Sanzhez & Walcott. I feel like I should transfer one of them out of my team...but which one?? I'm a little worried about Walcott not turning up due to the impending arrival of his child.

Probably replacement would be Chadli or Snodgrass.

    Any advice greatly received!

Keep both? Would be good to have both for BOU the following gameweek.

First sub if Walcott doesn't show is Stanislas. Maybe I could get rid of him for Chadli/Snodgrass?

Toying with the idea of an Aguero-less 352.

Haz, cout, firmino, de bruyne/Sanchez, snoddy

    Costa, Kane

Probs anichebe as bench fodder. Thoughts?

I really like it. I'm doing the same on my wildcard. KDB looks more impressive to me than Kun and I think he will keep up in points. My front 7 is KDB, Haz, Firm, Pedro, Allen / Lukaku & Kane. Anichebe is my fodder

Im really keen on the idea of it. Can't see aguero massively outscoring two premium mids and Kane, Costa. Just worried about a big aguero game week where he's banging them in for fun.
