And so the power shifts once again.

I can barely remember witnessing such upheaval: where we’ve had to re-consider where our big-money is spent and switch our sights, not only due to form, but simply availability.

We started the season coveting Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Then Diego Costa emerged, followed swiftly by Eden Hazard as Chelsea blossomed. Now Harry Kane, with seven goals in five, becomes a priority.

While these players battle for recognition in our squads, Sergio Aguero was considered by most as a mainstay: a factor that required little consideration.

That theory wavered back in Gameweek 3 but today’s events may have changed it for good.

Aguero had not served a suspension until this season. Now he is set to miss at least seven weeks of this campaign before the turn of the year. Few, if any, could have anticipated that.

Hours after the bombshell at the Etihad, Alexis Sanchez then provided his own explosion.

We always knew the dangers: deployed up front by Arsene Wenger, he has always been part of the heavy-hitter debate.

But, with heads turned by Chelsea’s faultless form and the promise from Eden Hazard, some, including this Fantasy manager, chose to lose Sanchez’ special talent, keeping Aguero locked into our attacks.

Now, with the City striker being ejected from squads throughout the land, the sacrifices required to gain the likes of Hazard, Costa and Marcos Alonso – all so alluring with Chelsea’s form and fixtures – no longer apply.

When I showed Sanchez the exit ahead of Gameweek 12, opting to sell Aguero was something I pondered, but quickly dismissed.

Today’s events punished that particular decision. They also force us re-examine the established thinking.

We are so set on Aguero. His place is so cemented in Fantasy Football folkore, the prospect of progressing through a season, or even a period of Gameweeks without him almost seems unthinkable.

But while a saintly Costa is scoring goals and avoiding the booking that will see him serve a one-match ban, we’ve seen Aguero inexplicably become an unreliable hothead.

We can’t begin to fathom how those roles have been reversed. We can only react to what we’ve now been dealt.

While those without Sanchez are denied the convenience of carrying out a like-for-like swap for Aguero, even with the cost of an additional transfer, it will likely prove a popular route.

Acquiring Sanchez no longer comes packaged with such sacrifice now that Aguero is out of the equation, his millions available to us.

In Gameweek 4 we formed plans to sell a suspended Aguero and bring him back two weeks later. This time around the landscape may have changed.

As of today, it seems likely that few will be forgoing Sanchez for Aguero should that decision ever arise again.

Although it’s almost folly to make such predictions in a season that refuses to allow us to settle in our thinking.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

On my WC this week struggling to make decisions
    Current team and sell prices:

    Grant (4.1) Pickford (4.1)

    McAuley (4.8) Amat (4.0) Cedric (4.9) Pieters (4.4) Holebas (4.6)

    Firmino (8.6) Hazard (10.3) Sanchez (11.2) Eriksen (8.1) Fletcher (4.4)

    Kane (10.9) Costa (10.6) Barnes (4.4)

    0.1 itb

Suggestions would be appreciated! Barnes and Fletcher need to be changed and I'd like Alonso in the backs (could change the whole backline if necessary). I'd sacrifice Costa for cash. Thanks!

Since you have so little cash it might be worth downgrading either firm or erikson to enable you to upgrade fletch & barnes.
      Firm > lallana
      barnes > anichebe
      Fletcher > phillips/zaha

      Or eriksen > zaha/phillips
      Barnes > austin

Thanks, like these options the best, now I like the look of

        Fletcher + Eriksen > Phillips + Zaha
        Barnes > Anichebe

        Frees up enough cash for

        Holebas/McAuley > Alonso

        Thanks very much!

True, after today though I might leave the armband on Sanchez indefinitely. He hasn't failed me yet when I've captained him.

I had to go out before half-time in the Arsenal match, I was thinking that at least my captain got me an assist!

  3. Pierce34
    • 10 Years

I was thinking that if I had Kane instead of Aguero it wouldn't necessarily have meant more points this week: I would've captained Kane instead of Sanchez, which in turn would've lost me points, and also it would've taken a hit to bring Kane in.

So it's a case of 45 points (46 from Sanchez, -1 from Aguero), vs. another way of getting 45 (26 from Kane, 23 from Sanchez, -4 point hit).

Anyway, I guess this is a way of saying I finally nailed my captain choice this week after a series of 1 and 2 pointers!

  4. Hillbilly

    Grant, Jakupovic
    Vertonghen, McAuley, Holebas, Fuchs, Amat
    Walcott, Firmino, Sigurdsson, Hazard, Capoue
    Aguero, Kane, Anichebe

    1.7 itb, 1ft

Thinking Aguero & Walcott -> Costa & Sanchez early so I can still afford it? No Sanchez has hurt badly this week. Had a sneaking suspicion it might...

    Heaton Pickford

    Vertonghen Fonte Lovren Amat 3.9

Sanchez Firmino Capoue Barry De Roon

    Aguero Kane Costa

With Aguero out, what do you guys recommend? I was thinking something like Aguero + Barry -> KdB + Iheanacho. What do you think?

I have been playing the price changes all season within reason - but also with a view to form and fixtures.

he's trying to be too clever in my view, making things more complicated than they should be

his constant rotation of players, formations have been detrimental to City

Just look at Chelsea, some times you just need consistency in the starting 11 to succeed

I know that City have Champions League but still there is not continuity on that team

Looks good but imo if you have Anichebe, you need a better fifth mid than Capoue..... Also in the long run I'd look at upgrading Kingsley..... Could you comment on mine above?

Same as everyone else's I bet. We have waited a long time this year but ladies and gents, we finally have the template emerged. So instead of figuring out ways on how to get said template, now the real fun involves ways to outsmart it. I think Man U could be a possible route.

100% agree, and yes this is the one indeed

Great captain choice in Kane Sanchez Costa Hazard Firmino
Siggy and Austin in there for the fixtures mostly

Hope all of them can keep up their form in the busy winter period, so I can save some FT and focus on my defence a bit more. Took a -8 today after taking 2 times a -4 the weeks before

? I don't think you understand what I am saying. I'm confirming the fact that Manu is a good way to get past that template team, but that doesn't mean that you can't be happy with a template team 😀 If everyone would start buying Manu players now, it would just create another template....

The lottery defence could be the difference then. And even that is getting pretty template with Alonso and McAuley (although is fixtures have changed for the worse again).

    Heaton/Pickford
    Kos Lovren Pieters Amat Holebas
    Haz Firmino Wally Siggy Fletch
    Costa Kane Austin

I'm 0.3 short of Wally > Sanchez so need two transfers to make it happen for -8....

A)Yes or no? (would be a defender downgrade like Lovren > max 4.7)

You have strayed too far from the template or didn't you get the memo? A -8 just to get Sanchez in is a waste. If you
Know where the herd is moving, look in other places before you burn points to join them.

@Pink: Simmer down and get some manners.

@BigB: I've kept Wally and got Sanchez in for a -4 (Redmond + Kun > Alexis + Austin). Sanchez has to be a season keeper so I advise getting him in within the next two weeks. Arsenal's fixtures get really good after christmas so you have the chance to keep Theo and hopefully not miss out on any Sanchez points at home to Stoke. Stoke are a good defensive team. It isn't essential to get him in but missing price rises can really limit your options in the future, the main reason I got him and kept Theo.

I did an 8 point hit last week to get sanchez and it worked alright!

I don't understand the reluctance to take points hits.

        1) If you have the info and use it wisely it will be right more then wrong

        2) It makes the game more fun.

        3) It can set your team up long term

So I did my -4 before price changes:
Aguero & Allen out - Austin & Sanchez in

Wanted to go Iheanacho or Anichebe instead of Austin but went for the safe choice. This upcoming gw will give me a chance to assess Ihea. to see how nailed he is. I might go Austin to Ihea./Anichebe for gw16

    Foster
    Alonso, Cedric, Holebas
    Sanchez (c), Hazard, Firmino, Siggy
    Kane, Costa, Austin

    Jaku, Phillips, Pieters, Amat

I'm still debating moving Jaku out to Pickford for a -8 this week.

    Thoughts & thanks.

Wouldn't do a -8 and Jaku may well start Monday (I'm started him this week, so blindly optimistic). Team looks good. I'm half tempted by Firmino (WHU) captain next week.

I think Firmino is a great punt as captain but with the form Sanchez is in it's hard to look past him. I actually think from a fantasy perspective Coutinho out is much better for Firmino who should move back to the wing.

Firm or Nach indeed seem like top options for that outside of the pool of players mentioned. Alonso, if you don't have, could rise a bit too, so there is an idea.

I'm pretty sure Iheanacho is going to make his way into my team. I would have to bounce Austin, but it seems worth it if you ask me. The Nacho is a much better player on a better team.

    1. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…

      That is debatable.
Austin is on pens - and Pep could end up playing KDB or Yaya in the false 9 because he is mad like that.

I think Austins fixtures are too good to get rid.

But if I had a choice I would want a front three of Iheanacho/austin and Kane over the next 4 gws.

I went Austin over Nacho as my Kun replacement. I took the safe option. I will assess Nacho this week to see how he fits in & if he plays big minutes & does well I'll go Austin to Nacho in gw 16. However if Austin bags some points in gw15 I'll probably hold him.
