After clinching the title at West Bromwich Albion on Friday, Antonio Conte makes nine changes to his Chelsea line-up for a home encounter against Watford.

Cesar Azpilicueta then emerges as the Blues’ unlikely Double Gameweek 37 hero, but Eden Hazard fails to take advantage of back-to-back starts.

On the Rise

Cesar Azpilicueta
One of only two Chelsea players to retain their starting berths from Friday’s win at West Brom, the Spaniard is currently the top-scoring player for Double Gameweek 37 on 20 points.

Azpilicueta was shifted out of the back-three and handed a right wing-back berth as Victor Moses was afforded the night off entirely, and he picked a fine time to net his first goal of the season in the 4-3 win over Watford.

With an assist and clean sheet also accrued at The Hawthorns, the versatile defender was the big winner from the Chelsea contingent – only one other team-mate, Michy Batshuayi, managed double-figures (11 points) over the Blues’ pair of fixtures.

Azpilicueta has now served up 30 points in his last three appearances and, with a home clash against Sunderland still to follow, is just seven points behind team-mate Marcos Alonso at the top of the defender standings.

Cesc Fabregas
Named among the subs against the Hornets, the Chelsea playmaker once again highlighted his ability to deliver points from limited pitch-time by emerging from the bench to fire the decisive strike.

As he’s owned by a mere 3% of FPL managers, Fabregas was largely overlooked for the Double Gameweek, yet, like Azpilicueta, he’s upped his output as the season comes to a close – it’s a goal and four assists in five now for the playmaker.

Afforded just 12 minutes off the bench last night, you’d expect him to return to the first XI against the Black Cats, with Conte perhaps now looking to protect N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic’s minutes with one eye on the FA Cup final against Arsenal at the end of the month.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
The Belgian was a surprise starter in last night’s seven-goal thriller, but he was unable to get among the points despite playing the full 90 minutes.

Backed by 304,000+ FPL managers with the armband, the 33%-owned Hazard delivered a mere five points across the Blues’ pair of fixtures as his campaign stumbles to a close.

The winger has served up just a single assist in his last four league appearances, scoring once in six top-flight outings ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Black Cats.

As the only attacker to retain his place from the Baggies win, Hazard’s minutes could be the most in question for the Sunderland match as Conte looks towards the Wembley showdown in a bid to clinch the double in his first season at the helm.

Over 12,700 have already parted company since Friday’s deadline – only Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has earned more sales among FPL midfielders.

According to ESPN's Arsenal journo on Twitter, Sanchez trained fully with team yesterday. Make of that what you will.

Rose back soon? How many of you (like me) dropped Bavies and got Vertonghen on WC because Rose was supposedly very very close to returning? That 0.7 +- could have been better used elsewhere. Or it's a good thing that we could not afford Koscielny or Albrighton/ JWP/ Tadic because of that?

I ditched him ages ago to hold Son for an extra week which hasn't paid off at all.

It would have afford those Vertongen holders Azpi over Kosc though as has proved the way to have gone

I think WC'ers made sure they have a Chelsea defender regardless. But that difference between Vert and Bavies influences their decision to pick Gabriel over Monreal/ Koscielny (vice versa).

Vert gave me Monreal, Ben Davies would probably have given Kos ... or Alonso instead of Azpil

    @Bubz.

    It's very simple.

If you have a 100 pts lead it doesn't matter if you have the best team. The fact remains that you can (c) Sanchez and your rival (c) KDB and you can chuck away 20pts no problem because it just doesn't happen for Sanchez that day...even though Sanchez was the better pick in theory...That replicated a few times is how you lose ML's.

Just look at how many teams on here are closing down a 100pt lead in their ML's, they're only doing that with diffs to their opponents, they'd find it a lot harder against me. I closed my opponent out weeks and weeks ago.

This is such a fickle game that any player can score well at any week..but it doesn't matter if you shut your opponent down

    1. Bubz
      • 12 Years

I would just never do that though, unless it was the last week or the season or something and it was really close. I would always go with what I believe will net me the most amount of points. I barely even look at my rivals teams. I just aim for a top 1k finish and know that if I get close to it I will win my minileague.

      I understand your point though

      1. Dr Dream
        • 13 Years

I play in close proximity to my rivals so I get to see the reaction when I've successfully replicated them and reduced their chances to almost nil.

Eriksen or Alli becomes an easy decision if you have a 100pt lead and your rival has Eriksen is probably the best example I can give. Either one is capable of a couple of hefty scores on the bounce or a couple of blanks.

        Just go for Eriksen.

Not sure I agree. It's over the individual gameweeks that the fates are fickle. Spread over 38 of them? That comes down to more than just the vagaries of fate and more down to skill and planning. If you win or lose you ML it's probably because you deserve to win or lose your ML.

I see it week in week out though, people making transfers 5,6 days in advance, I get if you're trying to avoid price rise but I honestly haven't had this issue yet, surely you have to wait for game day to make decisions ?

I've said the exact same thing a few times but some people will always take risks to get an extra 0.1 to spend. These people never do well in the game from what i've seen btw!

Define "well". I'm top 50k and have made a number of changes well in advance of the deadline this season. Been bitten a couple of times (Lallana before international and Zlat before double - locked in on Saturday pm due to a holiday), but also been in a position to afford some players who have got me excellent returns.

I was £0.1 shy of Sterling to Coutinho on Sunday evening - if it had been £0.0 I would have made the move.

It depends on the player, but there's no right/wrong way. Just risk/reward

            1. elmes85
              • 9 Years
              8 years, 7 months ago

I would define well as top 20k but most people i've seen posting early changes are the same people taking 8-12 points every other week.

And just because you have 8 mill to spend on 1 player doesn't mean you shouldn't buy a 5.5 mill player.

Fair enough, I figured top 50k wasn't too bad.

If you're only getting the player because you can only just afford them, that's a mistake. If you're doing it to create some TV early season without going mad on hits, that's just a different style. If you've considered it, have decided it's the right call and have to pull the trigger early, it's just a simple risk/reward when you pull the trigger early (is getting the player I think to be the best choice worth the risk that he (or another squad player) might get injured before the next game?)

Top 50k is by no means shabby btw.

Thats fair enough, there's different ways to play the game and i suppose it would be boring if everyone approached it the same.

Lol who Madrid is after doesn't mean anything. A lot has to do with how the player responds to their advances. Sanchez as a former Barca player may not be as warm to them as Hazard.

Covering the entire pitch and giving a disgusted expression every now and then won't make him better than Hazard. If it is only about the effort, then Kante is the best player in PL. Hazard is good enough to be playing for any team in the world. Sanchez could not stay in Barcelona.

I think Hazard is more talented, but infuriates at times with his showboating. Sanchez has the strongest will to win of anyone in the PL and that's what makes him a "better" player in my opinion (or perhaps more valuable would be a better description.)

BBC quotes United are interested in Aubemeyang, as are many Chinese clubs.

Fed up of China trying to get these players, why can't they stick to the average ones. They should be signing Nolito and Janssen and Enner Valencia

    Laurent Koscielny Update

“I have some problems,” he said when asked about his Achilles.

“Now it is better. I know it is a difficult injury because you need to work every day on this. Every morning I have my treatment for my Achilles and I know I need to do this to the end of my career.

“Now, every day I do this and it is okay but sometimes with all the games we play every three days, it is difficult and I need to have a rest to recover well for my Achilles.

“That’s why last time I was injured but now it is okay with this. You need to be careful with this because if you stop doing your own exercise programme for one or two weeks, the problem will come back. I know now I need to do this every day to be fit for my team.

“I am prepared to miss Sunderland to be fit for the last two games of this season. Sometimes it is better to miss one game to be fit for the others.”

I'd second guess he's gonna bring in Liverpool who could well spank Boro big time.

BBC saying Nolito going to Betis for £3.4m. Surprised another PL club wouldn't take a punt on him at that price. Probably not City's level but would do a job for others I reckon.

He's an excellent player and a steal at five times that price. Not quite quick enough for the EPL perhaps?

Agree. Plus he offers the flexibility of being able to play in all the forward positions. Amazing that a few teams that will generally be aiming for top 10 finishes haven't thought about him.

    Guys

what kind of improvements would you like or expect from PFL next season?

    Personnally:
    - I'd like to be able to save 3FT instead of 2 at the moment if no transfer made during 2 GW
    - I'd like to have a captain X2 and a Vice captain x 1.5 instead of VC covering a X2 for a missing captain. I know it would give halof points but half points would be rounded up. For instance 7.5 = 8

    1. Jafooli

Also minus points for players who give away penalties.

And max baps not allowed to be given to any substitute who plays less than half a game.

What if they score a brace in 20 minutes to give their team a 2-1 win? I'd say they deserve the bonus. I like the minus for penalties conceded though. Lost a few clean sheets to penalties given away.

I don't think I'd have saved a third FT this season. Two FT's a GW would be great like in the old Metro game's, it gave the opportunity for one week punts based on form and fixtures.
