Great Expectations

Hindered by an ongoing hernia problem, Junior Stanislas was overshadowed by the exploits of free-scoring Bournemouth team-mate Josh King in the previous campaign.

Restricted to 21 appearances, the winger served up just 106 points – lagging some way behind King’s 178 points – and scored seven times last term.

But having found the net in each of the final three fixtures, the Cherries’ flier is shaping up as one to watch for 2017/18.

  • When fit, Stanislas was a regular on Eddie Howe’s teamsheet – 18 of his 21 outings arrived in the first XI. Frustratingly, his hernia injury meant that the winger failed to start more than five successive league matches but, having undergone surgery immediately after last season finished, he’s expected to be fully fit and raring to go for the campaign ahead.
  • King’s rise to prominence in the second half of 2016/17 will certainly earn the Norwegian a price hike to around 7.5 or more, whereas Stanislas will be backed to remain under the 6.0-mark. Furthermore, King could also be reclassified to a forward due to his switch up front in the final few months under Howe. Considering no other Bournemouth midfielder netted more than three times, Stanislas could emerge as a budget-friendly pick in the centre of the park.
  • When it came to points per match (ppm), Stanislas more than held his own against King and, indeed, bettered him by 5.1 to 4.9. That average was inferior to only seven regular midfielders and on a par with big hitters such as Mesut Ozil, Roberto Firmino and Son Heung-min. Although a 21-point haul against Hull City in Gameweek 8 was the undoubted highlight of his season, the Cherries’ winger is more consistent than you’d perhaps expect – although he managed 90 minutes on just six occasions, he produced a goal or assist in 10 of his 18 starts.
  • In addition to his seven goals, Stanislas also chipped in with six assists and essentially played a part in 50% of his side’s goals when on the pitch – up significantly from 31.3% in 2015/16. That was also more than King’s 46.2% involvement and matched only by Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among FPL midfielders with a minimum of 10 starts. With the prolific Jermain Defoe added to the Cherries forward line, the Stanislas supply line could be vital for the Cherries and profitable for Fantasy managers.
  • Although his minutes per chance created dropped over the two seasons – down from 43.6 to 67.1 – the statistics indicate that Stanislas’ eye for goal has benefitted from a more single-minded approach. Indeed, both his shot accuracy (from 20.5% to 44.2%) and goal conversion (from 6.8% to 16.3%) more than doubled when compared with 2015/16. As a result, his minutes per goal quickened from 480 to 210.9 in the previous campaign.
  • Bournemouth proved a reliable source of attacking returns last term, placing seventh for both goals (55) and big chances (64). By and large, the Cherries’ attack was fairly fixture-proof – they netted at least three times in separate matches against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton. That could help them, and Stanislas, prevail over a tricky opening to 2017/18 that hands them clashes with West Brom, Manchester City, Arsenal, Everton and Spurs in the first eight Gameweeks. On the upside, visits from Watford, Brighton and Leicester heighten their early-season potential.

Just logged in to say VAR is tripe. Everyone will just call for VAR on every decision, and the referee's will succumb because it's the easy way out.

    The principle is good mind.

They have VAR wrong IMO. It should be like the TMO in Rugby Union. An extra pair of eyes for the referee. So they can highlight things to the referee and the referee can refer things to them for a second look (e.g. goal or no goal, penalty or no penalty, red card or no red card).

Technology is great if it fits. Ball crossing the line is an example of where it works as it's a fairly instant decision and it's a yes or no answer. Why do they draw the line at goal line, why not touchline also.

The likes of tackles, a lot comes down to interpretation. Just need to be on here to see how many different angles pepole see things from (OK there is bias on club/fpl implications) but still.

Works in other sports that are on the clock or phases and not about flow. Football is a game of flow, too much interruption causes it lose a lot of what's magical about the game. How many grandstand finishes would have been lost with the interruption of challenges.

As for the trial, I haven't watched all the confederation games but the ones I have watched, has added nothing to the games apart from more controversy

Just saying, AFL (a sport near nobody cares about, I know) is using the equivalent of VAR to great effect and has been using it for multiple years to confirm goals scored. It is used only when referees are uncertain (not often). Even if VAR is called on for every decision, so what? It won't exactly slow the game down greatly; how many times will it be needed per game?

    Fantasy European Cups Qualifications starts!

As we're waiting for FPL to start I propose small fantasy UCL and EL qualifications fun game. It is only for July as later we will have some more important things to do (start date GW1 - 04.07; end date GW10 - 03.08).
Sadly there is no aplication just everyone post his team as a reply to my every GW post. I will make a post every match day about an hour before first game. To make it easier to find I will put a link to every GW post I make here (main post) - http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/15816854.

As I hate when my player starts on bench plus I don't really know most of the teams playing in this stage so we don't have to post full team before first game. We can pick players after we see lineups and deadline is at KO. That means that if first game starts at 5PM you must pick a player from that game till 5PM. If you're late you will simply pick players from next game as most of the time there are few games every GW at a different time (but remember must pick players from right positions and max 2 from one team - rules so if you are too late you may be unable to field 11 players). That also means that all who join this game will probably post few times every GW to make full team (if U want you can post full XI before all games and risk no starters but no changes later) but thanks to that all your players are starters.

    Rules:
    1. No budget, no transfers (all free obviously)
    2. Maximum 2 players from one team
    3. Tactic is 1-3-4-3
    4. Points:
GK and def 1 pt for CS (only starters)
    GK,def,mid,striker 1 pt assist
    GK,def,mid,striker 2 pts goal
GK 2 pts for saving PK/missed PK (doesnt matter if saved)
GK,def, mid, striker -1pt for RC (nothing for YC)

NOTICE: All data - names, player positions, scorers etc according to http://www.flashscore.com/

    Dates:
    GW1 04.07 - UCL 5 games, EL 2 games
    GW2 06.07 - EL 48 games
    GW3 11/12.07 - UCL 12 games
    GW4 13.07 - EL (games TBD)
    GW5 18/19.07 - UCL
    GW6 20.07 - EL
    GW7 25/26.07 - UCL
    GW8 27.07 EL
    GW9 01/02.08 - UCL
    GW10 03.08 EL

NOTICE: Some games may be rescheduled so I will post what games are in every GW to make sure everything is clear. Also I will use CET and 24h system.

    PRIZE!
Winning manager gives names (no offensive etc) to other who played to change for one week.

Anyway it is easier than you think. I came with the idea watchig Confederations cup. It took me aroud half an hour writing rulez etc. Made excel document where I will put points. Easy.
If there was many managers joining than maybe it would take more time to put and calculate points but I think that only few will play. As for now there are two 🙂

I don't know most of the team too and that the fun!
To be honest I didn't know most of players in U21 and it was fun.
Here you will pick sure starters so no need to chceck who has biggest chance to play etc so it is easy and no need to take long time knowin all teams.
In next round there will be more team that you may know like Rosenborg, Apoel, Kopenhagen, Galatasary etc.

First problem is that I don't know much of them 🙂 but what's more important there can be (will be) different teams in future rounds so I think there is no sense to put names as some teams can play just 2 games.
Anyway I've already sent it for consideration.

Everton are really going for it. Keane, Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Pickford. They want Sigurdsson and Andre Gray too. Are they spending the Lukaku and Barkley money?

Seems that way. Let's see what happens with them: there were a few theories that Chelsea were only announcing players now because the Nike deal has kicked in. Think they've definitely been "moving on" with their signings, though.

No idea where Barkley will go, if Kaku is going to Chelsea. Spurs? Very tough to see where he'll fit in. Definitely on the bench for sure.

Was thinking Fraser or Stanislas on the right but I guess Fraser can go LW again and drop Pugh with King 10 and Defoe CF?

In that case he is well within his rights to ask for a modest increase.

And a parking space at the training ground.

Apparently he's looking at holding on until January for a free transfer and the inflated signing on fee that would bring him.

7 PL goals, 2 of which were penalties which have presumably now gone to Defoe. The remaining 5 from open play came with an xG of 1.84(finishing should regress), so yeah, it doesn't look good for next year so you can have Stanislas guys.

In order to "prove" your statement you totally forgot that assists also give points, you totally did not mention that he only played 1467 minutes last season due to injury and also you did not think that having a more prolific finisher in your squad (Defoe) that will mean more final passes converted into goals meaning assists. And Stanislas is more than capable to give the right final pass to Defoe. He can have more than 10 assists if Defoe will finish them and if healthy.

I predict a 5.0 price tag for Stanislas and the only question is if he will be fit to play more than 2500 minutes something that will considerably raise his FPL total. If fit and with Defoe in the team he will surely benefit as well. He is a very good 5th choice

He started off last season at 5.5. I don't think he will be cheaper this season.

With 5 ppg, i think he can hardly be less than 6.5.

A little ambiguity gets the mental juices flowing 😉

So, Stanny - he's pencilled in along with JWP as my 5th MID. All depends who's the cheapest 5.5 midfielder 😉

I suspect both King Defoe will be more than I want to pay, and BOU defence is too leaky to consider anyone other than Begovic.

I'd take Adam Smith from the Bournemouth defence. Good chance of him playing oop.

OOP of lose his position in an Ake-inspired reshuffle? If he retains his fist team spot he could be viable, whereas I think Daniels will be too expensive this year.

I think oop. Let's wait for the preseason. Yes, Daniels would be expensive. Not bringing him in.
