The Technical Area – Spurs’ Wembley Woes

Another Gameweek, another Harry Kane blank.

As covered in Sunday’s Knee Jerk, it wasn’t supposed to be like this, so in this week’s Technical Area we’ll be digging through the rubble of another disappointing weekend at Wembley and dissecting exactly what seems to be ailing Spurs – and in particular their talismanic forward.

WC or just ship KDB & Kane? 1.5itb

    Foster
    Jones Cedric Danilo Kola
    KDB Miki Willian Tadic
    Kaku Kane

    Elliot TC Long Quaner

KDB to Mane. If you have a 2nd ft take Danilo out for Davies/Luiz

WC? To get rid of those 2?
      Hardly requires 5 transfers.
      They're 22.4 combined
      With the 1.5, 23.9

Is it really needing a WC?
Not like you need to upgrade them
      Always simple to downgrade

I was more thinking because losing value on those two + question marks over Kola, Danilo, Willian, Tadic. And no Liverpool cover

£150m for Coutinho. We'll accept that, if we get Lemar + another in. He's lost Klopp's trust.

Makes complete sense. Lemar and VVD with the money is a result

I'd want one more, personally. Butland/partner for VVD would be my shout but I doubt it. Maybe another attacker.

Who would turn down a chance to play for Barca when he clearly wants to go and they want him? Liverpool getting a massive fee.

most people don't tend to make random transfers during the week anyway, add in the fact that Kane is immense, and that a lot of transfers will be done using Wildcards, I don't see anything to worry about either way really.

Int. break transfers tend to be quite slow, its why I can't see a 0.2 drop for Kane. He probably would have needed to have dropped already.

Hiya lads, on a WC, so just a quick question here:

    Foster
    Hegazi I XXX I XXX I
    Eriksen - Salah - Mkhitaryan - Atsu
    Firmino - Morata - Lukaku
    ____________________________
    Elliot I Carroll I Mbemba I XXX

These 'X' slots are what i'm having issues with, so have narrowed it down to maybe two options.

    A) Davies + Alonso + 3.9 non playing defender
    B) Luiz + Alderweireld + Naughton

It all boild sown to whether or not anyone reckons Alonso is worth having a the expense of a non playing defender, not sure as i do want him.

or any other suggestions for these slots is most welcome, thanks guys 🙂

    1. Netley Lucas
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 24 days ago

I would pick Davies over Toby, the assist/goal threat is good. I wouldn't go 3.9 because it's Axel Tuanzebe, a valuable mun spot. So B w/Davies. You could go Davies, Bailly & Naughton of course.

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        • 13 Years
        7 years, 24 days ago

Cheers Netley, yeah that's what massively puts me off the Tuanzebe move as it cancels me out of a utd spot.
I do prefer Davies, but just hope he carries on playing and is more favoured than Trippier to drop out should spurs sign Aurier.

Your suggested moves are bang on i'd say, makes a lot more sense over the expense of Alonso.

    2. Silva’s Left Nut
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 24 days ago

Go with B. Alonso is good but probably not enough to make up for both Luiz and Naughton, but your guess is as good as mine. I have almost an identical WC team if you go with B, love the attacking 6. (I also went Chalobah+ Forster over Atsu and Foster)

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        • 13 Years
        7 years, 24 days ago

Yeah it's a fair point you make, i would love Alonso, but like you say i can't see him covering two players points i can have week in week out.
Cool, it's a good way to go with the WC so cheers man, i had avtually thought about Chalobah & Forster haha, but i can't help but got cheap in goal, but both are good anyway, barring any injuries/new signings i think i'm pretty much sorted now, followed Netley's moves above and it looks much better.

        1. Silva’s Left Nut
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 24 days ago

Fair enough. I also prefer cheaper keepers, but having hegazi it's hard for me to invest in Foster as well. And I just don't see many other great options at the 4.5 range

          1. Salah’s Sonnet
            • 13 Years
            7 years, 24 days ago

Yeah that's the only drawback i suppose, although Hegazi is just there to gain some profit until after internationals in case i prefer some other defender, if not, then i guess i can roll with double WBA defence for the time being haha. not many great options at 4.5 though your right for sure.

I'm on a wildcard and playing the TV game for the time being, but was thinking finishing the international break on:

    Foster/ Elliot
    Trippier / Jones / Cedric / Naughton / Mbemba
    Pogba / Erikson / Phillips / Atsu / Carrol
    Lukaku / Kane / Morata

The problem with that is having to play 2 out of Phillips, Atsu and Carrol every week and no Liverpool forwards.

Other options could be to exchange Morata for Firmino and upgrade Phillips to a 8.0 mid? or ditch the top heavy method switch Morata & Phillips to Hernández & Salah?

The mid is a problem. Rather downgrade a fwd

Naughton/Carroll is limiting as you wont play them together surely

Good point on the Naughton/Carrol combo, depend on the fixture but would try to avoid.

he wasn't the one that gave the ball away cheaply, he also wasn't playing DM - that isn't his job in that formation, they are playing 3atb. Everyone crying about him not sitting in all game, that isn't his role and never will be. Even if it was his role, it would be the wrong one for his skill-set - not his fault.

he's also relying on the help of two players that were throwing their arms up in the air at every opportunity after about 5 minutes, not even trying, he has every right to have a go at them

If he is doing his job then fair enough he can demand more from those around him.. he was pitiful and he could have at least waited until the ball was out of play before having a go at anyone

He was part of a side that was embarrassed bullied and ran over for 90 minutes.. the team as a whole were a disgrace and Ramsey as an individual was a disgrace i'm not singling him out.. to turn his back on the game while it is going on when he could have been getting himself back to help the others is unforgivable

He should be concentrating on the game, I won't deny that, but I'm assuming he was just trying to do what Koscielny, Wenger and Bould wouldn't do and that therefore is forgivable in my eyes. Slightly irrelevant but Arsenal also had 7 men in the box and still couldn't prevent the goal.

I have no issue with an experienced player trying to rally the troops and have a pop at others while the manager is sat twiddling his thumbs and playing with his zip on the bench but pointing the finger at anyone when you aren't keeping anywhere near the required standard of effort yourself is going to cause more harm than good.. and doing while the game is going on behind you is like i said just unbelievable tbh

he was putting in much more effort than Ox, which wasn't hard tbh, but yeah that's fair. Most people were accusing him of just having a casual conversation about the weather or something - at least he was trying to sort them out.

yes, moreso in a 442 - but not sit in front of the back 3, which really Xhaka should be doing anyway - one of them is more advanced - that's how they have played in that formation.

Coutinho sets himself apart with the ferocity of his shooting. He gets such power from outside the box. It adds a valuable dimension to his game that the other midfielder No.10s don't have.

Hit the WC last week so have Kane and no Firmino, but with those underlying stats I can't get rid of Kane.

Would be more tempted to ship Lukaku and Chicharito for Firmino & Morata and keep Kane (have Erikson and Mkhi)

    Best front 3 for GW4/Season?

    A) Lukaku, Chicharito, Kane
    B) Firmino, Morata, Kane

So I hit the WC button, despite my better judgement, but at least it's making the boredom of the international break more bearable. My current WC team is below, any obvious flaws?

    Forster, Elliott
    Trippier, Jones, Cedric, Hegazi, Naughton
    Alli, Salah, Pogba, Brady, Carroll
    Lukaku, Morata, Firmino

If Kane drops by 0.2 & Morata rises another 0.1, I'd look at leaving 2.2 ITB for a FT Morata>Kane swap when harry inevitably starts firing to pick him up at his cheapest. Probably Salah >Fabregas if taking that option... WC's are fun!!

This isn't my usual style but I think I'm going to try it out anyway.

I currently have 2.0m in the bank and I'm looking to invest 1.0m in upgrading my 4th/5th midfielders. Have Atsu and Carroll and looking at a Carroll -> Brady transfer.

Brady and Atsu rotate perfectly for at least 6 weeks, outstanding home games for your 4th mid.

I'm usually all about 2 really cheap bench players. I know this probably won't end up working (benching points) and I'll want that 1.0m back next week probably but fook it.
