West Brom have revealed that Chris Brunt is a doubt for their clash with Stoke City on Saturday after suffering a groin injury whilst playing in Northern Ireland’s 1-1 draw against Morocco at Windsor Park last night. The midfielder will be assessed later today to find out the full extent of the injury. Roberto Di Matteo has already declared his irritation at the manner in which the injury was sustained…

“We know that Chris Brunt picked up a groin injury last night and that really annoys me. The others seem to be okay. We’ve just had four games in 12 days – and one of those games was with nine men and put a lot of demands on him. The last thing we needed was for him to go to a midweek international game because the risk of injury increases. Friendlies at this stage of the season don’t make sense to me. He’s coming in today and he’s going to be assessed. At the moment he is a doubt for Saturday’s game.”

With Brunt holding the idyllic combination of both a fairly low transfer value (5.7 in the FPL) and the ability to score decent points, many Fantasy Managers have targeted the Baggies man as the perfect cut-price option to compliment some of their more pricey assets. In addition to his expert left-foot deliveries from both set-pieces and open play, Brunt has displayed the capacity to rake-in Bonus Points, grabbing an impressive 10 in total to this point.

Earlier today Di Matteo admitted that he may have to make some changes to the Baggies’ starting line-up to combat Stoke’s physical presence.

“I’ve been thinking about adapting the team. It’s a possibility getting big players in will affect my thinking.”

We can only speculate on the tweaks that the Italian has in mind, but one possibility concerns the role of Peter Odemwingie. He could well be shifted back to a position on the flank, with Marc-Antoine Fortune, who has had to be content with cameo roles in his last two outings, returning as the lone striker to add his size for the battle at set-plays. Roman Bednar is another option here, although only today there is speculation surrounding his immediate future at the Hawthorns with a possible loan move on the horizon.

Regardless, with Brunt now a possible absentee, the key message for Fantasy Managers is that there is new uncertainty surrounding the West Brom lineup for what looks to be a potentially profitable home fixture.

      Any thoughts on this dilemma?
      A. Malouda, Elmo to Nani, Kolarov/Ferdinand (4 pt hit)

I'd still play Cashley, too good/expensive to bench. And I wouldn't double up on Birmingham vs Chelsea. So it picks itself really:

Nice balance, I'm not sure about having so much investment in your defence with cleansheets being hard to come by these days, but it is a different tactic and could well pay off

Bad luck, that has been a dramatic fall! I like WC team a lot. Doubling up ManU defence for 2 weeks looks a good idea. Waiting two weeks to see if Mancini starts Kolorov away to the likes of Stoke also looks sensible.
      Can't argue with the Midfield.
Up front Drogba looks good if you are going with one player only for Chelsea coverage.
On the flip side, I personally would go with Davies over Elmander.
      Good Luck

Folks - unfortunately I fell prey to knee jerks and am now looking to get either Bale/Carroll or Nani + cheap forward + cheap defender back in my squad. Here's my lineup:

    Jaask/Foster
    ACole/Vidic/Elmo/Coleman/Samba
    Cahill/NZog/Ferguson/Adam/Etherington
    Drogba/Hernandez/Tevez

Thinking about dropping Hernandez/Etherington/Samba - thoughts? Should i really do the surgery for Nani and get Varney and some 3.9m defender?

Chelsea play better when Anelka is the lead striker imo. It would cause more problems for defenders and midfielders, who have to respect Malouda's speed and Drogba's power.

Anelka is fantastic with his back to goal, and Palo played well enough at CB last weekend. The issue seems to be in midfield, Mikel is awful going forward. Zhirkov is not good going through the middle and drifts into malouda's area too often.Ramieres is a problem going forward also. If they can assign drogba in a more central role and put anelka closer towards goal, problem solved. It would move malouda out of zhirkov's way, since he's going to naturally drift out to the wing if with one of the FBs on the edge.

"Paulo played well enough at CB last weekend"

Lol. Did you watch the game?! What about the first half against Liverpool when Anelka was the focal point? We were atrocious. Anelka is fine out on the right... He's given license (as is Malouda) to roam all over the place and his link up play is absolutely excellent, and with Drogba down the middle we still have someone in the box when Anelka does drop deep.

You are right about the midfield though. Although no need to criticise Mikel's attacking threat when that isn't his job in the side...

          Hahah, I butchered his name.

Last weekend Paulo blocked 2 shots and took the ball away 5 times. He was active! It's Mikel who didn't close down on the first goal, Ivanovic's fault also.

They are really missing Essien or anyone who can go forward down the center of the pitch, because it doesn't seem to be in Zhirkov's game. I like Rameries but he just hasn't adjusted yet. Anelka should never drop deep imo, he needs to be near the box, that's what makes him different from drogba and Malouda. Anelka is a poacher and has pure silks (blame rio) on the ball.

Personally I'm keeping Arteta until after WBA home, then he's gone if he doesn't produce.

Just say he's "raw" lads...it's a great, seemingly balanced description of a defender who you don't like who plays for a team you don't like. It portrays that while he's shit now,, he could develop and become not so shit(even if you think he'll be shit forever) 🙂

Serious toughie... Fortunately I could only afford Odemwingie this week, so I've gone for him...

Fixtures are pretty similar over the next few weeks, both teams have some very appealing home games coming up.

I'd probably side with Elmander though. Bolton are on the up, whereas West Brom are stuttering a little. And there is always the risk that Odemwingie could play out wide because he's versatile and Fortuné isn't a bad player. Elmander will always be down the middle with Davies.

Just reading there that Balotelli has committed his future to City.... until June?! didn't he just sign a 5 year contract?
Add to that Given, Adam Johnson and Tevez are unhappy and will likely seek a move in Jan/Summer if things don't improve..
And the fact that City have been playing quite poorly lately.

Clearly Mancini's man management skills not to mention his ability to get results leave alot to be desired so how much longer could he possibly have?

Indeed. Was thinking about Torres -> RVP/Rooney in the future but may consider Tev instead of Torres... or may dump both!

get elmander, bolton might get a cleanie this week, but will definitely concede vs. blackpool next, since they just care about scoring goals.

hi guys, im new to this and would love some help with my team. my team is:

    GK: Howard, Myhill
DEF: A.Cole, Jagielka, Ridgewell, Foley, OShea
MID: Nasri, Nolan, Nzogbia, Gerrard, Obertan
    STR: Carroll, Tevez, Chamakh

Looking at the fixtures, united players (who will start) seem worth getting so i was thinking of doing
    Gerrard -> Nani
    OShea -> Vidic

This means playing nzogbia this week because obertan wont start. Would someone please help me out here? I still have my wildcard but am not keen on using it with nearly 2/3 of a season still to play

      oshea to vidic
gerrard to VDV bale or albrighton
      obertan to albrighton
nasri to fabs (with $ from gerrard downgrade)
myhill to jaask alhabsi gordon krul (anyone else!)

not sure if those changes will work coz i didnt price them but they are my first impressions

    Current team:

    Bosingwa elmo Coleman (Dann Simpson)
    VDV nani fabs malouda (arteta)
    drog carroll varney

Got xtra free transfer so I need to make at least one change but I could also make three changes for 4 point hit

    Arteta > Albrighton
    Simpson > Vidic
    Elmo > Kolarov

should I do them all or just Elmo > Kolarov ?
Also, should I bench Arteta or Varney?
