The ScoutCast – Episode 249 – Puppetmaster

Granville is the latest of the ScoutCast crew to be struck down by man-flu, and while Az manfully continued last time out, like myself the week before, my old rival is forced to sit out.

But he makes sure he has his say, priming Jonty beforehand to push my buttons on the “honeytrap” that was Jordan Pickford. Jonty plays a blinder on his behalf as Granville pulls the evil strings from his sickbed.

Elsewhere in this latest episode, your community questions steer us to assess whether we should call time on Marcos Alonso to consider cut-price alternatives. We appraise the Arsenal renaissance, get Az all riled up on “JLingz”, while Jonty has his say on “whipping boys”. That, of course, are those teams that are easy to beat and guarantee big returns.

I still believe that this topic was just another excuse to have a go at Pickford, with Granville sniggering over his Lemsip (other cold remedies and goalkeepers are available).

    Who to captain:
    a) Hazard
    b) Sterling
    c) Salah
    d) Kane

    Who to play:
    1) DCL
    2) Ogbonna
    3) Quaner
    4) Dunk

Currently on a 1 for differential, but Salah looks safer as I think many people captaining him

Hazard and Sterling shouldn't be in that equation, in fact it seems like the whole squad is rebelling against Conte so I don't think Hazard should even be in people's squads atm. Between Salah and Kane for the captaincy.

Southampton only lose once from last 5 games and they played draw against Spurs at home, I am afraid Liverpool will get the same. Even Arsenal lose more than Southampton from last 5. Arsenal in a good confidence now and Eriksen/Alli/Son played last night even though not full time.

I've just had a look at the stats.

Salah away outperforms Hazard at home.

But Kane at home outperforms Salah away.

Arsenal away are worse than Southampton at home defensively.

It points to Kane, although I do wonder if Giroud starting will up Hazard's output.

Giroud in may not mean a thing if Chelsea are in rebellion (which may seem far-fetched until you look at the results of their last few games)

that's it, I am in cofidence with Hazard because wondering Giroud would start. Hazard won't play as striker. Moreover, WBA at the bottom of the table.

Arsenal away is not good but it is different. London derby is gonna be hot for sure. Maybe Wenger will play 442 with duo Laca & Auba. Draw for them.

The anytime goalscorer odds say to back Kane (1.83 Kane vs 2.25 Salah top prices) but I suppose you then have to consider that you get more points for a midfielder scoring and then Salah is potentially more likely to get assists.

This is easily the most difficult captaincy choice of the season so far for me. (K)ane or (S)alah? I have Sanchez but have relegated him as third choice captain due to Man U's poor creativity.
Both Kane and Salah are going for the boot, Salah has the easier fixture on paper but Arsenals defence is very permeable and Kane has described scoring against Arsenal as a feeling unmatched by scoring against any other team... Salah on somewhat better form? Any points I'm missing?

im not liking salah captain this week for two reason...

          1) The last time Salah played Southampton he got a brace.

          2) Liverpool have only 4 games this month.

Spurs and Liverpool have midweek champions league games.

    Chelsea and Man United haven't.

Surely the threat of rotation makes Hazard and Sanchez better captain choices than Salah and Kane. We could see benching and reduced minutes for Liverpool and Man Utd.

Both Salah and Kane are very robust players, they're callable of playing 2 games in four, especially if there's a rest beforehand / a rest after. I would be highly surprised if anyone in the Spurs squad is rested, in fact, as they really, really need to win this game. Liverpool need to win it to a lesser extent.

Kane, don't think Gooners can defend well atm. Early goal and it could be 4 or 5. I think Saints can frustrate 'pool with 3 DM's, takes a bit of getting through.

I don't think Kane gets rested against Arsenal but I'm more worried about Salah. Klopp may think he has enough in the locker to beat Southampton without Salah starting. He's not afraid to bench big players ... even £75m defenders.

Liverpool don’t have a game next weekend though. It’s essentially 2 games over 14 days, although those two games are close together. Salah will start but may be hooked early if the game is comfortable.

Going down to 10 men early on and Bakayoko was the biggest factor in that Chelsea's performance. It's unlikely to be the same on Monday night when they play the team that's bottom of the league at home.

Liverpool have only four games in the month of February, so if the risk of “rests” is giving people reason to pause over captaining Salah then relax.

you may have a point, but Salah does not have a Fa cup next week so risk is minimal. Kane could also be rested in Fa cup.

Should I take out Bernardo Silva to Walcott or Ibe for a free?

If I go to Ibe, that leaves me enough free cash to upgrade Aguero to Kane next week. I want to take out Alonso for Alderweild as well though. So options really are:

    A) Roll FT this week, Alonso/Aguero to Alderweild/Kane next week for 2 FT
    B) B Silva to Ibe, Aguero to Kane, all for FT
    C) B Silva to Walcott, Alonso/Aguero to Alderweild/Kane for a -4 next week

southampton tries to play which will give a more open game, wether that translate to Liverpool win am not sure of but they´re not Swansea or Burnley. Prediction of NLD is more difficult imo, yes Kane goal ratio is good against arsenal, but mostly pens, and a game like that with the importance of it and to sides that are more or less equal in quality it is quite difficult to predict. It could be a goalfest, in which most people think but it could also be a tense and nervy encounter between two teams that are afraid of losing. It tends to be goals but not many goals in it. Liverpool are a far better side than Southampton and Southampton tries to play which usually suits Liverpool better, but recent history also suggest a low scoring affair, but Liverpool did won 3-0 at home just some months ago.

    Hi chaps.

I'm away with work and not looked at football for a minute this week. I know this is really lazy, but could someone give me a quick overview of my problems/changes?

    £0.5/ 1FT

    Courtois
    Alonso/Kenny/Jones
    Salah/Sterling/Lingard/Pedro

    Adrian/Schindler/ Carroll/ Chilwell

Kenny and Chilwell have to go, not starters. Carroll and Pedro are huge rotation risks

You’re judging the form of a left-wingback on goalscoring? Until last Tuesday he’d had returns in 8 straight gameweeks 😆

I meant *real* form, goals and assists - as one of the most advanced players in Chelseas team usually, he should be getting more returns imo.

*real* form?! 😆 Chelsea have had two stinking games and he didn’t even play in one of them. Before the Bournemouth game Alonso was one of the most coveted players in the game. He’s a fantastic asset. If you don’t want his posts then cool, the rest of us will have them 🙂

Real form as in not fantasy, chill out. Clean sheets and bonus points don't factor in irl. I agree that he's a good option for fantasy points, just saying that with the amount he gets forward he should be getting more.

Why would we be interested in *real* form when it doesn’t affect FPL in any way? Bottom line is the points score, and Alonso is FPL gold.

What do you mean real form doesn't affect FPL in any way? If Alonso didn't get these attacking returns, would he be worth over 7 mil? No! So it's worth considering even if he has other sources of points, as the Clean Sheets will dry up if Chelsea continues like this and then where will we be left? With an expensive 7.3 defender not scoring or keeping clean sheets.

    Any Liverpool fans?

What do you think about rotation for fullbacks now when CL is back, and Moreno is back in the mix?

    Robertson first choice PL?

Stay clear of the fullbacks now Moreno is back imo. They’ll rotate. Trent will play the least but if you own Gomez you’re still not safe as Trent will be thrown in for the odd “easy” hole game you might have earmarked as a cleanie. Bit of a nightmare.

Cheers. Robertson have gotten alot of playtime and with many in my ML with VVD i wanna hedge those cleanies...

Might go for Mawson or Bauer isntead.

I think even though klopp sees something no one else does in Moreno that he’s got to see Robertson as first choice. However not clear if klopp will put his first choice in for Porto though, could see Moreno playing esp. as Robertson has a bit more fight for the more intense prem games. Not really any safe defenders- klopp also happy to rest vvd and run Matip/lovren as required.

Difficult to say as we don´t know Morenos fitness level yet. seemed out of sorts vs west brom and was benched last time around. Robertson have done nothing wrong until now, and seems to be above Moreno in the pecking order as it is pr now. What that does imply in regards to PL vs CHL is difficult to predict as one could argue for both cases really. i have Robertson myself and playing him this weekend, but i can see reasons why klopp would want to play him vs Porto instead. To me it seems that pecking order is more down to opponents style and character and how Klopp applies his tactics rather than dividing into cup/league. Southampton plays with a style that are based on fullback coming high in pitch and serving their main target which means that Klopp would want to play the fullbacks that are equipped with better skills in blocking one would suppose and tin that case i´d say Robertson will play as Moreno is suspect in that specific area of defending. But one could say that Klopp would want defensive stability in the away game vs Porto so that´s what makes this difficult to predict but to me Southamptons treath down the right hand flank would suggest Robertson will start and then Moreno will play vs the iberians. But this is a guess based upon a certain angle, and it is not certain Klopp looks like it that way.

        Thanks for your excellent reply.

As you highlight, the uncertainty seems too high, especially as there will probably be rotation elsewhere so sticking with a 100% nailed on defender elsewhere seems a better pick..

you can see how many subs they made but not who they subbed just got to second guess who they have and who they are likely to change as regards to budget change difficult to know what they are up to just make sure you pick the right captain and all should be good

you have to know what their current tv is, for instance 102.3 and 0.4 itb and then when he or she makes a move, you then can try to figure it out by calculating the numbers that stand afterwards. Say if he/she makes one move and the total of value does not change it will mean he has transfered out a player that had no value lost in his team, but if the total changes, like losing 0. in total he then sold a player he had 0.2 etc. Not sure this helped you, but hopefully it gave you an idea of how to guess, which is ultimately is and not sure wether yuo should use much time on it-)

For those chasing ml like me one move that could really pay off is Firmino --> Aubameyang.and here is why.

The further liverpool progress in cl nd cup the more toll it would put on Firmino. The role he plays is not easy and requires lots of effort and hardwork. This means likes of solanke nd ings could get a game every now and then in pl.

On the other hand i can see Aubameyang starting all pl matches while Laca playing europa n cup matches.

What are your thoughts ? Would you consider making same move.

your point may be valid but Klopps problem is that Ings and Solanke does not represent viable rotation options. Firmino is a bit like Kane, and no Fa cup actually means some periods of recovery time like this week and also after Porto game it is 10 days til West Ham. But when Arsenal entering that nice run of fixtures auba is def worth considering
