Yahoo Focus – Gameweek 27

There’s yet another big-money contest on offer in Yahoo Daily Fantasy this weekend.

Our partner game are rolling out a Premier League £2.5k Saturday contest which takes in all five matches from 3pm onwards tomorrow, finishing with the 5.30pm encounter between Manchester City and Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The contest is guaranteed to run, costs £5 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to five teams. The top 125 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £250 going to the first place.

Driven by Opta data, the Yahoo game has a unique scoring system which is ideal for community members on the search for a Daily Fantasy Sports game.

If you’re new to Yahoo, you can sign up and claim a free £50 in credit to your account when you deposit just £5. Promo code: Fantasy50.

It’s also worth having a look over our Strategy Guide before selecting your line-ups, as this gives you a better idea of the Yahoo game and the types of players who tend to benefit.

FFS Strongest XI

Ederson – £17
Seamus Coleman – £14
Alfie Mawson – £14
Moritz Bauer – £13
Xherdan Shaqiri – £21
James McArthur – £13
Kevin De Bruyne – £26
Bernardo Silva – £18
Sergio Aguero – £29
Theo Walcott – £19
Gerard Deulofeu – £15

As goalkeepers earn points for wins or draws and pick up double the number of points as defenders for a clean sheet, we’re opting for Man City’s Ederson at home to Leicester. The league leaders have conceded just two goals in their last four at the Etihad Stadium and have won 12 successive league matches in front of their own fans.

Rested for last weekend’s loss at Arsenal, Seamus Coleman looks set to return to the Everton teamsheet for the home encounter against Crystal Palace. The Eagles’ have allowed 44 crosses down their left flank over the last four Gameweeks – only Southampton (50) have conceded more. That bodes well for the forward-thinking right-back, who supplied four goals and as many assists last season before injury struck.

A goal, assist and clean sheet over his last two home matches highlights Alfie Mawson potential for Yahoo points at both ends of the pitch as Swansea entertain Burnley at the Liberty Stadium. With the likes of Steven Defour and Chris Wood sidelined through injury, the Clarets may struggle to remedy a record that has seen them fail to score in four of their last six road trips.

Back-to-back clean sheets in Paul Lambert’s first two home matches boosts our faith in the Stoke defence at home to a Brighton side that’s mustered a single goal in their last seven away matches. New arrival Moritz Bauer has caught the eye since making his debut in Gameweek 23 – no defender has produced more successful crosses (six) or key passes (six) in the last four rounds of fixtures. Brighton’s left flank has been far from resilient – indeed, they match Crystal Palace for crosses conceded down that side (44) over that period.

We’re also backing the Potters’ Xherdan Shaqiri to profit from the visit of a Seagulls defence with one clean sheet in seven on the road. The Swiss international has upped his threat for attacking points in Stoke’s three matches under Lambert, bagging a goal and assist. Among Yahoo midfielders, he’s ranked first for shots in the box (six), second for shots on target (five) and third for chances created (eight). Over the season, he sits fourth for successful crosses (39) and joint-top with Kevin De Bruyne for big chances created, with 13 apiece.

Priced at £13, James McArthur looks a handy budget enabler for our four-man midfield. An all-round asset in the Yahoo game, only three team-mates have bettered his combined total of 17 successful tackles and interceptions (seven and 10) since he returned as a regular in Gameweek 22. McArthur has also found the net and fired six efforts in the box during that five-match stretch – second only to Christian Benteke’s 11 close-range efforts for the Eagles.

Kevin De Bruyne is one of three Man City attackers selected for the visit of Leicester City. The Belgian’s relentless form in recent weeks is showcased by the statistics – he’s the top ranked Yahoo midfielder for shots (18) and attempts on target (nine) and sits second for chances created (15). De Bruyne’s output has also been far superior on home turf – he’s produced more goals (four to three) and, in particular, assists (nine to two) at the Etihad Stadium.

Relatively budget-friendly at £18 this week, Bernardo Silva also comes in as the league leaders host a defence with two clean sheets away from home this term. With Leroy Sane still sidelined, the former Monaco man looks set to start for the third successive Gameweek – despite limited minutes, he’s netted three goals and seven assists in his last 15 matches.

Seven goals in his last four home at the Etihad cements Sergio Aguero’s spot in our starting XI. Among the players on offer for Saturday’s five-match slate, the Man City frontman is the leading candidate for shots (19), efforts in the box (18) and attempts on target (10). Over the course of the campaign, no player has scored more goals at home than Aguero’s 11.

Crystal Palace’s problematic left flank could allow Theo Walcott to maintain his fine home form since arriving at Everton. The Toffees have scored three times in Walcott’s two appearances at Goodison Park and he’s played a part in all of them, delivering two goals and an assist. The Eagles continue to be hit hard by injuries and arrive on Merseyside without a clean sheet in their last four away fixtures.

Star of Watford’s Monday night demolition of Chelsea, Gerard Deulofeu makes his way to a West Ham defence without a shutout in eight attempts. It’s fair to say that the Spaniard has made quite an impact in his first two appearances for the Hornets – Deulofeu has delivered a goal and assist, creating seven chances for team-mates and firing five efforts on goal.

As Yahoo allows late swaps up until each kick-off, our listed line-up may well be subject to change.

The Weekend Contests

As well as the Premier League £2.5k Saturday contest, Yahoo are also offering a Premier League £1k Sunday contest.

Getting underway at 2.15pm when Newcastle United entertain Manchester United, this also takes in the Southampton vs Liverpool match at 4.30pm before concluding on Monday night at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea welcome West Bromwich Albion at 8pm.

This is also guaranteed to run, costs £5 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to two teams. The top 50 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £100 going to the first place.

In midweek, Yahoo are also rolling out contests for the start of the Champions League knockout stages.

The Champions League £1.5k Tuesday and Champions League £1.5k Wednesday contests cover both matches over those respective evening and have identical rule sets.

Guaranteed to run, they cost £5 to enter and are multi-entry games, which means you can select up to three teams. The top 82 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £150 going to the first place.

I have this problem! Leaning towards Aguero/Salah more than hazard due to the risk of hazard playing as a false 9 again - although giroud is in contention to start!

    Hazard:

    - No midweek CL game unlike Salah, Kane or Aguero
    - Home to bottom of the table
    - Scored last week
    - Giroud likely to play allowing him to move back to favoured position
    - Must-win game for Chelsea and it doesn't seem like they have downed tools like with Mourinho, just seems like a bad patch
    - Home game and Bakayoko suspended so Cesc starting will help creatively, as opposed to when Bakayoko was partnering Kante for the last two games.
    - Got 18 points (2 goals and an assist) in 70 mins in the reverse fixture this season. Don't really value these stats but worth mentioning.

For the reasons above, is he a good differential captain this week considering I'm at 400k and need a boost?

Those are all very logical reasons. But FPL when reduced to a single gameweek is rarely logical. I'd say if you're in need of a punt to climb the rankings, Hazard is a solid choice. I will personally stick to Kane or Salah. Be aware that he does better away from home this season, though.

I don't really understand differential captaincy for the sake of differential captaincy as a concept. The main captaincy options are usually the ones with the best chance of performing well. Whilst occasionally, a reasonable differential captain comes along (e.g. Sanchez) there are usually mainstream options that are just as likely to perform.
By captaining the non-optimal candidate, you open yourself up to what is likely to be a rank drop instead of a rank climb. Why on Earth would you captain a random like Walcott or Shaqiri this week, as I have seen some suggesting? Do you really think they're likely to do better than the likes of Salah, Aguero, Kane? Owning differentials is enough to ensure a rank climb if they perform.

    1. *sigh*
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

Depends if you’re chasing or not and how confident you are of the differential.

If you're cruising at the top of your league play it safe. But if you aren't, mix it up and have some fun. It's boring captaining the obvious pick each week.

      1. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 2 months ago

There is rarely ever an obvious pick. There is usually two or three good captaincy options. For example, this week I would say there are Kane, Aguero and Salah.
If you dont pick one of them, you end up risking a lot if your Shaqiri punt goes awry.

See below. Its a gamble mate. Do you always gamble on the top 2 horses in a race or do you sometimes go for an outsider to get the extra dosh. Do you play Roulette, poker, Black Jack?

    3. Lanley Staurel
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 13 Years

Its really not that difficult. Its a gamble. You gamble on the favourite not doing well and your differential doing well. If that happens then you get a good rank boost. Nothing more complicated than that. Its a gamble.

Im not sure you have thought this through mate. So so GW 31 is a way off and its really easy to get say 8 to 10 players ready for it without compromising your current team. If you free hit then maybe you will get 10 extra points. Save it for later GW. Do some research - Ben Crellin on Twitter can help.

Go ahead and start filling your team with Wat, Stk, Eve players. Most have 2-3 Pool already.

Get some Hud and Palace while you're at it, good chance of not being a blank.

I think youve just proved my point 😀 Why use a FH for that GW lol

Happy with bench fodder defenders, existing Pool players, the likes of Walcott etc and once fixtures become clearer you have a de-risked pool of 8 to 10 players. All the best with spunking your FH on crap players lol
Its really not that complicated mate not sure why the tears.

Funny, because you've proven my point too.
You are having the crap players for multiple gws before 31 when free hitters have them for one. Not to mention you have a crap team after gw 31 🙂

                    Not complicated as you said.

Seriously this is like talking to an infant. Bench fodder dont play, Pool players do. Add in players near the Gw if not just before using 2 free transfers. Wildcard after 31 so you refresh your team. Jeez. Over to you bud for some more wisdom. Im waiting.

Anyway you're taking it for granted you could get in players now that are injured/suspended/dropped/rotated for 31. And you will be losing a lot of value transferring out good players (mci/utd/tot/che/ars) and then getting them back on WC.

Don't answer if this makes no sense to you - I might be an infant.

😀 salty indeed! I think weve made our respective points. Live long and prosper.

    A) McArthur (eve)
    B) Ogbonna (WAT)
    C) Albrighton (mci)

I'm keeping faith in him for now, seems to be his place to lose to Moreno but he's been doing quite well recently I think

Not that anyone is stupid enough to still have him, but did we get a Kiko injury update?

    Just wondering......

Last week I suggested Lukaku might be the Elephant in the room and he scored.

Seeing as he has not been mentioned on the last 50 pages, I would like to suggest he may still be the Elephant in the room.

I watched the elephant playing last week at the possibility he may be the one to get in after the Sanchez signing and his first touch was atrocious.Im out.

Seems a little hasty. He did score and they are just learning the new dynamic.

Time to ship Alonso after today's update it would seem?
After this gw Chelsea have 2 terrible away games, before a very likely blank 31.

Maybe to Coleman. It isn’t so much the fixtures but the idea the Manager is losing control that worries me.Alonso has been fixture proof until now.
