Team News

The Gameweek Team News

Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are both expected to be available for Arsenal’s double-header with leaders Man City. Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson is available for their crucial clash at Brighton. Leighton Baines has a chance of returning for Everton’s trip to Watford, while Jermain Defoe may also be back in contention as Bournemouth welcome Newcastle to the Vitality Stadium.

Here’s our summary of the team news so far, with a host of press conferences still to come later today.

Earlier this morning, Arsene Wenger delivered a positive injury update ahead of Arsenal’s pair of upcoming matches against Man City. Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are both likely to be in contention for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, with the two sides also squaring up at the Emirates on Thursday night in the final match of Gameweek 28. Alexandre Lacazette remains sidelined with a knee complaint, however, with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang set to lead the attack in both matches in his absence.

City will, of course, be without the suspended Fabian Delph, while Gabriel Jesus continues to edge towards a first-team return that would impact on Sergio Aguero’s pitch-time. Pep Guardiola is expected to give an update on the Brazilian’s fitness in his early-afternoon press conference later today.

Alfie Mawson has given Swansea a major lift ahead of their trip to rivals Brighton. Passed fit for the Amex Stadium encounter, the centre-half has recovered after his knee locked during the warm-up before last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday.

After scoring on his Brighton & Hove Albion debut in the FA Cup victory over Coventry City, Chris Hughton must decide whether to hand Jurgen Locadia a first Premier League start against the Swans, with Glenn Murray perhaps the man to miss out.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has conceded that Tom Heaton is some way off a first-team return, despite playing 90 minutes for the reserves earlier this week. Chris Wood may return for the home encounter against Southampton, while the fit-again Stephen Ward is expected to push for a starting spot. James Tarkowski is rated as “touch and go,” while Scott Arfield is a doubt.

Sofiane Boufal could be available to return for Saints, but Maya Yoshida has been ruled out for at least four to five weeks, while Steven Davis and Shane Long are unlikely to feature at Turf Moor.

Shinji Okazaki remains sidelined for Leicester City’s home meeting with Stoke City, but Wes Morgan is available again and could replace Aleksandar Dragovic in central defence.

The Potters will again be without Peter Crouch, with Mame Biram Diouf favourite to lead the line. Stephen Ireland is also unavailable but Bruno Martins Indi is back in the squad following a leg injury. Paul Lambert revealed that one or two players are carrying knocks but refused to name those set to asssessed.

Jermain Defoe could be set to challenge Callum Wilson’s minutes after returning to training for Bournemouth. Earlier this morning, manager Eddie Howe revealed that the veteran has a chance of making the squad for tomorrow’s match with Newcastle.

As for the Magpies, they may have Islam Slimani available to make his debut after the forward returned to first-team training. Ciaran Clark (knee) remains doubtful.

With a near fully-fit squad to choose from, Jurgen Klopp has plenty of options available to him for the visit of West Ham United to Anfield. The likes of Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Jordan Henderson and James Milner may push for recalls.

Manuel Lanzini is back in training following a hamstring injury ahead of the trip to Liverpool and could be available to return for the Hammers. Winston Reid may also come back into contention following illness, but Arthur Masuaku remains suspended.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Alan Pardew will be able to call upon both Kieran Gibbs and Jake Livermore for the home clash against Huddersfield Town, but Daniel Sturridge is ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The Terriers will be without the injured Aaron Mooy for the trip to The Hawthorns, but Laurent Depoitre and Chris Lowe have both returned to training and could feature.

Heurelho Gomes, Miguel Britos, Will Hughes and Kiko Femenia have all returned to full training ahead of Watford’s home meeting with Everton, and may be available to return.

Toffees defender Eliaquim Mangala will miss the trip to Vicarage Road, while Sam Allardyce has also admitted that Seamus Coleman is a major doubt. That will likely mean another start for Jonjoe Kenny, while left-back Leighton Baines could be back in contention after stepping up his recovery over the recent break.

Crystal Palace’s Mamadou Sakho has returned to training following a calf injury and may be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to have a clean bill of health for the London derby, with the likes of Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela all pushing for starts.

Jose Mourinho looks set to be without Ander Herrera for the home encounter with Chelsea after the midfielder picked up a muscle injury against Sevilla. Paul Pogba is poised to be handed a recall, while if Phil Jones remains out, either Victor Lindelof or Eric Bailly should start in central defence.

Tiemoue Bakayoko, David Luiz and Ross Barkley all missed Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona on Tuesday night, and remain doubts for the trip to Old Trafford. But Marcos Alonso did return from injury in midweek and should start. Blues boss Antonio Conte faces a tough decision in attack. He opted for Eden Hazard as a “false 9” against the Spanish side but could hand either Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata a starting role should he revert back to a 3-4-2-1 set-up.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter account for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Think he's nailed; Amartey has been playing OOP there when Simpson has been out but he seems a little like Naughton at Swansea in terms of having no real rival to the role.

It's a little bit shoddy from FFS that they are not making more of referee stats.

A lot of MILIVOJEVIC owners will be making a tough benching decision this week and will want to know if a referee who awards a lot of penalties in the Palace game is officiating.

It feels like it's been forgotten about. None of the mods and cons seem to ever mention it, and it could be really useful for Millie owners who are solely relying on penalties from the defensive midfielder.

Would love to go back to Men in Black and will look to revive it next week - the Chip DGW/Blank situation has dominated our editorial of late.

Palace vs Spurs is officiated by Chris Kavanagh.

      His profile is here:
      https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/referee-profiles/chris-kavanagh/

Interesting ref, one of the most inexperienced, he's new to the PL this season I believe. He's strict on cards but, sadly for Mili owners, among the lowest ranked for fouls and pens.

Yet to give a red this season though.

      https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/referee-stats/

He's yet to officiate Spurs, but had Palace at Arsenal for GW24.

Other ref appointments here for members to scan our stats further...
      https://www.premierleague.com/news/625164

***Edit - I was wrong above, it's Kevin Friend, not Chris Kavanagh, so ignore that data when considering Mili! - apologies ****

I've added a hot topic here...

Loads of fantasy managers have (foolishly in my opinion) brought in a double pivot holding midfielder into their teams in the hope of getting weekly penalties. They need this data.

Didn't say it would happen week in, week out. He's got more than just pens in his locker is all I'm saying, also on direct FK's isn't he... Anyway Palace fixtures are shocking till the bgw, so best avoid/bench them regardless

Agree with Mysterion, he's a 4.7 mid - so you're not expecting returns every week, but he's a hell of a lot better than other options in the price bracket. You never really know when you're getting returns from him, but from what I've seen he's got a great long shot on him + pens - so you could always get a goal out of him whenever you play him!

Don't think that's a catastrophe by any means Rafa!
Sucks with the random price rises.
There's always Ota there that you can release value from if you wish to take a -8: why not Ota and Ox to a blank-friendly defender (e.g. Daniels) and Mahrez? Is that affordable? Then Kun can go out another GW for Firmino. Not as if the Arsenal defence is impregnable ofc.

      3) Option 2 and Lingard > Mahrez (-4)

Aguero rotation playing on my mind. It’s 1) though right and 2) the week after or the other way round?

Struggling to make a choice between this duo. Opinions?

    A. Pickford & Ibe
    B. Fabianski & Doucoure.

I have Naughton in defence (to add some context)

A if you have Naughton I think to spread the love. Unsure these teams are good enough to justify a double up (save potentially Everton)

Think Everton are my bogey team this season. Got rid of Niasse for Depoitre just before he started getting points and now Big Sam has pretty much confirmed he is nailed on. Also transferred out Kenny the same week Coleman got injured again.

Reckon it's worth getting Niasse back in for Depoitre? Still carrying him for his 1 or 2 points a week.

Thanks. Tempted. Maybe not this week as will be for a hit. Think I'm going with Sanchez > Mane and probably Jones > VVD this week.

Really thinking about Son\Sterling to Mahrez though. Can see Sterling getting some rests over next few and everybody I am chasing has him. Mahrez would be a great differential if it works out.

good value for those playing 3-5-2.

Yeah this is it. Kun could be rested due to cup final or limited minutes. Also as this match is not in ethiad it also gives u an additional leverage as I would be too scared to ship him out if he plays in ethiad

-12 could easily pay off over the next few if they all score big. While you keep your wildcard.

At the end of the day if your not bothered about overall rank too much now and are chasing specifically in a ML and need differentials plus it will make you feel good about the GW and your team I would do it!

The entire order of doing my GW31 planning, starts with Mourinho being clear on whether Jones will play this weekend or not....if he's out that makes the steps quite easy.
Jones > cheaper defender with good run including GW31 and save the other FT.
Next GW Alonso > cheaper defender and save 2nd FT again
Lingard > Milo and start upgrading other players for the best choices on form for GW31.

I have considered mane but his bps probability is too low to give him an edge over firmino and he is inconsistent. Cant expect hattricks. Vvd is the best defender in gw31

I've gone VVD because of Jones & Alonso issues.
If I hadn't needed to sort my defence I would have gone with Mane for your reason above.
I also have Salah & Firmino so anything Mane does I'm sure they'll have a role in, hopefully!

For those with no g31 GK, considering that VVD hasnt been delivering that many goals/assists in the past years, are we wrong to overlook Karius? Dawson or Daniels may have better value than their respective keeper.

It's kind of a valid point, but the eye test suggests VVD is going to be really dangerous from set pieces in this Liverpool team, and Liverpool generally create more chances than Southampton anyway.
