Monitor – Gabriel Jesus

Just three Gameweeks now stand between Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers and the long, dark teatime of the soul that is the summer break.

Yet with mini-league titles still to settle and another Double Gameweek on the horizon, difficult line-up decisions continue to present themselves. After a pair of red-hot Gameweeks across which his Man City side have racked up an impressive eight goals, Gabriel Jesus has firmly inserted himself into the Fantasy conversation and summarily dismantled the Wildcard template frontline of a Harry Kane – Romelu Lukaku/Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Jamie Vardy triumvirate.

With goals in each of his last three starts, should Jesus displace one of his fellow heavy-hitters within our frontlines? And how much should we consider sacrificing to ensure we have the Brazilian on board?

In this latest Monitor article for members, we will be breaking down the striker’s season, recent form, and evaluating his potential over the final handful of games versus altnernative targets in the Man City squad.

Apparently the 4 day gap - as opposed to 3 - makes a world of difference.

What do you think will he (Klopp) go for the kill against Stoke or play it safe and rest key players ?

i'd rest them if i were klopp, have decent* replacements.

      *to play stoke

klopp is pretty balls out tho, can see him taking risks with a line-up even against stoke, so hard know

Liverpool are on 71 with 35 played. Chelsea are on 63 with 34 played. If Liverpool field a weak lineup (without Salah) and end up losing to Stoke (which does seem unlikely, but who knows?), the gap could come down to 2 points, and guess who they face next? Chelsea! So, I think Salah will play. And Klopp will field a strong team.

I've been agonizing about this for a while now, and, I have to say, this is the most convincing argument that I have read here on why we shouldn't expect to see a weakened team on Saturday. The interesting thing, though, is how it all might be different if it was Chelsea kicking off first rather than Liverpool...

        1. Slitherene

Haha! Salah would've been rested had Chelsea dropped points though.

The last thing Klopp would want is to lose the final and also miss out on the top 4 finish.

Feels like it'd be more of a surprise if he wasn't.

10 or more points in 9 league games this season and nice fixtures with DGW means he is hard to ignore even with high rotation risk.

I reckon if he is rested, it’ll be for the whole game and won’t play any minutes at all, so play him and have a good bench to cover. (Kenedy, Mili, or Barnes depending on your formation)

      Personally I think he’ll play.

Transfer ideas? Not liking my team at all

      DDG --- Ryan
Maguire ● Cedric ● Lowton ---- Smalling Alonso
      Son ● Pogba ● Mahrez ● Willian --- Gross
      Kane ● Vardy ● Barnes

      A: Gross + Vardy >> hojberg + Jesus (-4)..will revert to 4-4-2 going forward
B: Save ft but no city coverage
C: Alonso + Vardy >> Laporte + Jesus (-4)..but then stuck with gross/willian next gw and only 0.5m itb
D: something else? 0.1m short of mahrez > sterling. Could get sane instead but then next gw can only get one of sterling or Jesus which is a very tough choice

Exactly that. With most no brainers you would be surprised if the player being sold outscored the player being bought. In this case Lukaku is well capable out outscoring Jesus.

I prefer Jesus of course, but it's far from an easy transfer.

What option is the best for DGW 37?

      A: Alonso, Mahrez & Murray -> VDH, Arnie & Jesus (-4)

      B: Alonso, Mahrez, Vardy & Murray-> Smalling, Sterling, Jesus & J.Ayew (-8)

Anyone with Austin over Jesus as 3rd striker (Kane+Lukaku here)?

Got Jesus as 2nd. Austin is 3rd.

Such a shame this will end 0 - 0. Arsenal are perennial chokers

Think you are confusing them with their North London rivals - Gunners have regularly won trophies

I swear Arsenal are the easiest team to play with 10 men against. Just stick all your players on the edge of your box and don't let them tip toe towards the goal with 100 tiny passes

The thing about Arsenal, is they always try and walk it in.

Yeah they just don't stretch teams. They just try and flick it round in the centre of the box. It's pretty frustrating to watch sometimes.

The thing is, not many English have a lot of width any more.

Arsenal bench is poor. Perhaps bring on Holding for Welbeck and play him up front just to give a different problem.
