World Cup Transfer Tips: Semi-Finals – The Big Numbers

Just four teams remain at the 2018 World Cup after the culmination of the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

Fantasy managers now only have players from France, Belgium, England and Croatia to choose from, with Uruguay, Brazil, Sweden and Russia assets surplus to requirements.

Those who are playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game have five free transfers with which to shake up their squads, although Fantasy iTeam managers will have to make the most of their three allotted transactions (a fourth can be purchased with credits) if they are to field 11 playing assets at the semi-final stage.

Up to six players per country can be selected in our Fantasy squads at this point.

After their goals for Belgium and France in the two countries’ respective quarter-finals, Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) and Raphael Varane (£6.0m) are attracting the most investment in the McDonald’s FIFA game at this early stage.

With the likes of Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Diego Godin and Andreas Granqvist to jettison from our teams, where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

If martial somehow gets a run in the team this year, he will be unbelievable value...

7.5 would be one of th biggest bargains in history.

If he & Mkhi both get into their teams they could be he best value 14.5m in history!

I have no Utd players. Other than DDG (too expensive for me), Pogba and Lukaku I have no idea who Mou picks!

Sanchez probably on that list too. There are too many options though.

I'm on Martial so keep it on the down low. He will start ahead of Rashford and Lingard to start with and he he often starts the season well. Martial can also be easily swapped for a Siggy or Ramsey if it doesn't work out.

"He will start ahead of Rashford and Lingard" - how can you possibly know this?

You pose an interesting point. Martial is surely going to start ahead of Rashford and Lingard to start with?

Martial to Arsenal, please. Mkhi, Ramsey, Martial season triple-up keepers.

I'm probably wrong but go on google news, which suggests Martial is staying and with Rashford and Lingard deep in the world cup, there could be a starting spot initially.

Any recommendation appreciated for World Cup semis

    This is my current team

    Courtois Olsen*
    Granqvist* Pavard Lovren Trippier Dalsgaard*
    Rakitic modric coutinho* bentancur* inui*
    Kane neymar* Lukaku

    My 5 transfers dilemmas
    Pickford or subasic
    Vertonghen or Varane or ?
    KDB or Pogba or ?
    Kante or 6.8m
    Hazard or Mbappe or Griezman

Am currently first with 1 point difference from 2nd place in my league. No bonus left. And I will end up with 13 players only.

    Any thoughts?

      Pickford
      Varane
KDB if he's playing more advanced again
Kante too defensive, might as well buy a defender, Maguire?
Griezman but god knows who will score the most out of those 3.

I think liverpools fixtures is not hreat enough for me to spend 6.0 on one of their defenders.
Hard too keep cs away at palace and leicester home
Think matip is enough. He is VVD's partnerbto at least 3-4 first games

Sane isn't nailed for sure, like the beginning of last season, mostly because Mendy is coming back to provide width.

Interesting. Thanks Deu. Silva really is a bargain. Just noticed Sterling's price too, what the actual...?

I'm trying to fit in both.

Would say Sane's pretty nailed on to start the season. Bernardo at the WC and Mendy is more of a wing back.

More concerned about Aguero & Jesus both starting.

Mendy and Sane don't play in the same position, it's true! But the both play *wiiiide*, which could cancell each other out unless they adapt. This is what happened at the beginning of last season, I believe, when Pep chose to play Mendy, but not Sane.

10 goals and 5 assists when playing left wing under Jokanovic in the second half of last season. Got to be worth a punt.

Better option than Walcott? Or second only to him?

Is Mkhitaryan worth the extra 0.5?

I think with the value in practically every price range and position, it's pretty risky to go with an unknown entity in the prem for a whopping 6.5. Would like to be proved wrong though.

How do you plan to get kane in your team?
    Liverpool has tottenham(a), chelsea(a) and city(h) from gw5 to gw8
So I guess only salah is enough or even too much. I will switch firmino to kane in that period and may find a way to get back firmino later

Feel like I’m getting sucked into Kane again

    Aguero & Firmino 20.5
    Vs
    Kane & Arnautovic 19.5

I really don’t think the teams with Salah and Kane are bad at all

You can check if KDB is playing further upfield or back to defensive mid 1 hour before match and choose accordingly.

    Kane/Griezman/Hazard
    Tolisso or Lingard/KDB/Kante
    Kompany/Pavard/Maguire/Hernandez
    Courtois
    Subs: Pickford/Trippier/Tielemans/Modric

any input much appreciated (still got my wildcard and max captain)

    1. Piksau
      • 10 Years
      6 years, 3 months ago

If KDB is playing same position as against Brasil then KDB, otherwise Lingard
Kompany has been very active on set pieces, can take a gamble on him. Muenier is suspended. Pavard is a lively option, has been good last 3 games. Maguire is risky.
      Rest all good.
Would advise max captain this round. And is you need to overhaul your team then WC also, as same teams will play next round also.

    Coutois (Subasic)
