Just four teams remain at the 2018 World Cup after the culmination of the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

Fantasy managers now only have players from France, Belgium, England and Croatia to choose from, with Uruguay, Brazil, Sweden and Russia assets surplus to requirements.

Those who are playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game have five free transfers with which to shake up their squads, although Fantasy iTeam managers will have to make the most of their three allotted transactions (a fourth can be purchased with credits) if they are to field 11 playing assets at the semi-final stage.

Up to six players per country can be selected in our Fantasy squads at this point.

After their goals for Belgium and France in the two countries’ respective quarter-finals, Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) and Raphael Varane (£6.0m) are attracting the most investment in the McDonald’s FIFA game at this early stage.

With the likes of Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Diego Godin and Andreas Granqvist to jettison from our teams, where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

Not nailed but looked really good when he played. Seemed to oust Bruno for the right back slot last season. Brighton have signed Bernado (9m) who can play either RB or LB.

Bednarek is on my watchlist, played well towards the end of last season, and had an okay WC.

      Can't see any guaranteed.

Schelotto played a fair bit for Brighton (but could get rotated with Suttner, Wan-B for Palace a possibility.

Would like to see Bednarek starting for Soton.

Yeah, just about. Wouldn't expect anyone who has made the quarters and beyond to start the season. Players typically get 3 weeks off then have a mini pre season.

That being said, the likes of Henderson and Kane will probably sacrifice holidays to play GW1.

    Here we go then:

    Fabianski - Begovic
    TAA - Ward - Coleman - Daniels - Bedinek
    Mane - Sanchez - Silva - Walcott - Masuaku
    Firmino - Zaha - Aubamayang

No Salah makes team look so much better overall, but no Salah..

Like many, I'm not sure on Zaha as a forward now (less pts). Also don't really like Sanchez under Mou, but he has been rested during the WC, so maybe he'll be a good differential. I like it.

Is Trent definitely nailed? Considering him myself.

Sanchez can become Hazard, when he's back from WC. On the same basis, quite fancy Sanchez if Lukaku isn't back from WC for start of season.

Zaha could be Arnie or Tosun (in which case Walcott could be Mili), dunno, 3rd striker spot is tough.

Looks a decent team, but that No Salah thing is the only question, really. If you wanna brave it, fine. Quite a good team nonetheless

I mentioned Salah's price a page or so back but was rightly corrected. It's madness to go without him. Best captaincy pick on GW1 too.

Anyone think Barkley has a chance of getting a start at Chelsea? He is one potential enabler for the Kane Salah axis if that looks necessary. Otherwise, I've done a draft with them both and it looks weak as pish.

As a Chelsea fan, no not really. Unless Sarri comes in and transforms him he seems to have been in decline for a few years now and is just continuing to move further away from the first team

Same, teams with Kane and Salah don’t look great. I’m tempted to go 4-5-1 to facilate them both, but even then I can’t really find any 5m forward option I think will even play

Are there any players at the lowest price bracket for each position (GK 4.0, Def 4.0, Mid 4.5, For 4.5) That are worthy of consideration for the last spots based on merit rather than just putting anyone in there?

True, but Pickford and Stekelenburg is the same as 2 £4.5 keepers and gives you Pickford’s handcuff if he gets injured or rested.

      Defence looks a bit light.

Do you really need Kane and Eriksen? I think most managers are going to have to make a choice between one of those two.

Massive, massive risk going without Salah.

      But that’s just my opinion.

There was an article posted a couple of days ago explaining the basics of FPL.

General things to note, once you pick your captain for the week it’s locked in, you can’t change from Saturday to Sunday. You also can’t make manual substitutions during the game week.

As noted above look at the fixtures so you can rotate a pair of cheap goal keepers or 4.5m defenders.

Don’t buy any defensive midfielders such as Kante or Matic.

    3. F5jason
      • 15 Years

Don't waste your chips, there will be double gameweeks later in the season as bad weather and cup games postpone original fixtures, keep your chips to maximise these weeks. You can only use one chip at a time.

Hits can be useful for some... people, but remember, if you are getting them in for one week, they need to score/keep clean sheet just to break even with the person you are taking out.

Take advice but follow your gut instinct and the data you trust

Pick nailed on players. Form over fixtures. It's a long season, if you have a bad week don't panic. Don't spunk your chips early. Go with your gut instinct. Watch as many games as you can.

Sessegnon is going to be incredible this season, he's worth every bit of 6.5m imo.

Doesn’t always happen that way, though. See Taraabt and Eubanks-Blake as case examples.

He’s a great talent, but two things worry me. First, his price for a newly promoted player and second, are teams going to figure that if they stop him they stop Fulham?

      1. Freddo
        • 9 Years

or Austin? or Adam? more recently Grob (although he came from another league not the Championship) there are some success stories, it's not all bad.

          8 years, 8 days ago

          No, indeed.

My point is that it’s better to be wary at the start of a season especially when we don’t know how he and the players around him are going to handle the step up.

For me it’s hard to justify £6.5 for him when I can pay the same for Milivojevic whose proven himself at this level already and plays for arguably a better team.

That said, I’m currently taking a punt on Neves who looks like he may be a bit underpriced at £5m.

Coleman, Baines, Theo all on watchlist from Everton, I do pick any of those before Tosun. Siggy could be great but he’s just edging into expensive territory where he needs to be delivering regularly. He is well capable of it though

VVD imo. I feel like Robertson will have competition from Moreno now he is fit again so he won’t be 100% nailed, whereas VVD should be. Also with Gomez, Clyne, TAA all fit now I wouldn’t be surprised to see Klopp give any of those the odd game at left back as well, he now has 5x decent full backs to keep happy

Well, I hope another CB comes in because neither Matip or Lovren are consistent enough to win the league.

      Firminho better at 9.5

      There's others better for less.

Any changes needed? Thinking doing Trippier Pickford to Ederson Coleman.

    Pickford
    Trippier Bednarek Daniels TAA
    KDB Deulofeu Salah
    Kane King Firmino

    Speroni Neves Ward Stephens

You have 6 players in your starting 11 who have gone deep into the World Cup and have to be seen as massive risks for GW1.

    Any news on Dann?
Will be fit to start the season?

Bit different all 4.5 (and a 4) defence and keepers?

    Fabianski - Begovic
    Daniels - Cedric - Tomkins - Zanka - Bedinek
    Sane - Mane - Eriksen - Walcott - Masuaku
    Firmino - Aubamayang - Morata

Picked this same defence, above. Helps the mid for sure.

        He burned last season.

        Never again.

Nice, I like it but I wouldn't mind seeing one premium defender in there?

Indeed, makes getting a good front 7 hard though,

    Zaha or Arnie?

Zaha if he stays at Palace. Otherwise, neither, due to fixtures. Although Zaha might do well at Everton or Arsenal, but not a bigger team

        He won't leave though, surely.

Why not? He refused to sign a contract. Gotta wait and see

If Zaha moves, Tosun is probably the best 7m (assuming he looks like being a starter under the new manager) for the first few games.

    Salah, KdB, Zaha
    Or
    Mane, Sane, Aubamayang

Is Barry Douglas worthwhile? Or am I better off looking elsewhere at that price point or cheaper?

    1. Freddo

He sounds the part but their opening fixtures are not kind, sounds like he could be a budget Alonso.

Barry Douglas sounds like a character from Phoenix Nights. So on that basis, it's a yes from me.

      5m is steep imo.

It is quite steep, there are a lot of decent 4.5 defenders this year, even at 5m you can get TAA or Sakho (who got 18BPS last year which is huge)

    Views on this draft?

    DDG
    Coleman Alonso Robertson Bednarek
    Salah Sane Mkhi
    Zaha Firmino Tosun

    Speroni Daniels Neves Deulofeu

Downgrade Sane to Mahrez or D. Silva to upgrade Daniels. Start Daniels' replacement along with Deulofeu at the expense of Mkhi and Bednarek. That's what I would likely do with that team.

Mahrez? Hmm. Not sure on him though. Where will he even be?

You do make a good point though, actually. Silva is tempting. What 5.5 should I consider?

          1. Deulofail
            • 10 Years
            8 years, 8 days ago

Mahrez if he signs for city. 5.5s I'd consider are PvA and Coleman. Perhaps a 5.0-5.5 City, Arsenal or Liverpool option as we get closer to GW1 deadline.

Nothing wrong with Daniels. Decent pick for £4.5m imo.

Too floppy for me. Need a bit more solidity in the starting XI unless you're rotating him with a better option. I probably prefer Tomkins in a straight battle.
