Pre-Season

FPL stars return to training and target Gameweek 1 starts

Several key players have returned to their respective clubs following the World Cup, and are hoping to be involved in Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League.

Last season’s top-scorer Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) was back at Liverpool’s training ground on Friday morning alongside team-mate Sadio Mané (£9.5m).

Both players were knocked out in the group stages in Russia, with Mané involved in three matches, Salah in just two.

The Reds are still waiting for the return of their contingent who reached the knockout stages which includes Roberto Firmino (£9.5m), Dejan Lovren (£5.0m), Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.5m), Jordan Henderson (£5.5m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.0m).

Christian Eriksen (£9.5m), Son Heung-min (£8.5m) and Davinson Sanchez (£6.0m) are all back with Tottenham and the trio are set to travel to the USA for the club’s pre-season tour.

All three could be involved in Gameweek 1, with the club confirming today that even Son will be available for that match before departing for the Asian Games.

The tournament kicks off on August 14, a few days later and Son has to win it in order to gain immunity from military service. If he achieves that, then he won’t be available until Gameweek 5, with the Games finishing on September 1. An early exit from the competition could see him come back sooner.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane (£12.5m) is hoping to start in Gameweek 1 despite an extended stay in Russia with England.

The Spurs man was at the World Cup until its final weekend, registering 582 minutes at and winning the tournament’s Golden Boot award with six goals.

“I’ll hopefully be back for the first game and hopefully I can try and score in August this year,” Kane told the press when he arrived back in England earlier this week.

Those comments come subsequent to an interview given after England’s third/fourth place play-off defeat to Belgium in which he said he’d be discussing his availability with Mauricio Pochettino.

“We’ll have to talk to the gaffer at Spurs, but it will be a couple of weeks away,” he said.

“Physically your body will always take you where you’d never think it would.

“The important thing is mentally. It will be difficult but something we have to deal with.

“We train all year round, we’re young, we’re fit, your body gets on with it.

“For me personally, and I know for the other lads, it’s just getting away from football really.

“It’s hard, but it’s what we have to do with the season starting so quickly.”

Kane won’t be on Spurs’ pre-season tour, though. In fact, none of the nine players who made it to the last four of the World Cup are on the tour.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not going to rush any of his key players back, even though he only has four senior first-team players with him on the club’s pre-season tour in the USA.

However, the Manchester Evening News reported on Friday that defender John Stones (£5.5m) is willing to cut-short his extended break so that he can be available to face Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 5.

As we have already mentioned, Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) have already agreed to waive their three-week entitlement, which is why they are currently training in Chicago.

“Physically it’s not a problem but mentally they must be ready, how they come back and handle the situation, day by day,” Guardiola said of his first-team players involved in the World Cup.

“I’d have preferred more time, one month or one month and a half. So many games – but they have to adapt.”

The City manager will support the decision of players who decide not to come back in time for Gameweek 1.
“It is what it is, we know because we spoke – they have to come back ready,” he added.

Elsewhere, Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.5m) and Idrissa Gueye (£5.0m) have now returned to training for Everton and will travel for the tour of Portugal.

If Richarlson goes to Eve with the fixtures I would consider at 6.5
But even I today's market 50 mil transfer fee?

Oh and could Mili be a better 6.5 option. Thanks.

Richarlison had an off 2nd half of the season last year.
I am thinking about Siggy at 7.5 looks a good price being on set pieces, corners and probably penalties too.
Coleman is locked right now in my team. Tonsun too for the early fixtures.

        Thanks. Interesting as
Siggy to Richarlson allows Jag/Williams to Coleman.

Rich and Coleman a better option?

Another shot at a question here. Any chance Coleman can get back to his old self post injury or avoid?

I’d go for him. You have to remember that when he returned he was playing in a more defensive minded Allardyce team. For Silva, he should be more of an attacking threat again.

any ideas/doubts on my team ?

    Schmeichel (che) / Fabs
    Robertson / Coleman / PVA / Daniels / 4.0
    Eriksen / Salah / Mahrez / Cavaleiro / Kenedy
    Auba / Arnautovic / Kamara
    0.5 itb

Mahrez will be KDB someday (need another 0.5 cut)

we have pretty similar teams--me Lovren Baines I dropped Eriksen I might spend the .5 to get to a playing def.
Why are people on Coleman more often than Baines?

    * Is Alisson the new main GK of Liverpool?
    * What’ll happen to Karius minutes?

    * What are your thoughts on Richarlison, IF he goes to Everton?
    * Would you pick him instead of Tosun?

    1. Chandler Bing
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 3 months ago

With that price and reputation, you'd expect Alisson to be the #1.

      Cup games.

      Worth it if guaranteed minutes.

      Yes.

My opinion on the first two questions is the same.

Richarlison will be a great addition to Everton’s squad but I think I’d keep Tosun because of my team’s structure.

I worry about Niasse slowly taking minutes away from Tosun. Silva liked him at Hull, and he’s played well in preseason. There might be safer forwards in that price range.

I tend to agree on the basis that if he performs as per last year 600 points from one player looks good at 13 mil
        But 0/10 is a a tad harsh.

Sane and Mahrez both great options imo

Just been looking back at the community round up from this week One year ago. Just to see who was being talked up before last season.

Willian, Tadic, Redmond, Lindalof, Kolasinac, Rangel Sane. Pedro and Ramsey were all template players heavily talked up.

All good reason not to worry too much about who everyone is picking, just select plyers you like and do not worry if they are not template, as the template has a habit of dissolving as soon as the season starts

Herd mentality. This is ground zero for the template. RMT chanting. I’m starting to understand how cults get their followers.

Correct. I feel a lot of transfer business is yet to be done. Teams will definitely change over the next 2 weeks.

Even though I know that already, it’s reassuring to hear, and especially backed up with examples like that. Thanks dude.

    Which looks better lads?

    A. Mahrez Martial Hughes
    B. Dilva Richarlison Lamela

    Assume Richarlison moves to Everton

Tough one. Like Mahrez more than Dilva but Richarlison & Lamela look really tempting too.

My exact thinking. Could downgrade Bailly to Shaw and have Mahrez Lamela Richarlison

It’s slim pickings, hard to say now Brighton have signed Stephens competition. Romeu, Gunnarsson and Chalobah hopefully stay nailed.

Don't see Bednarek in many teams now. He seems pretty nailed to me

The 4m defender who appears to be sailing under the radar is Bennett. Currently nailed on at Wolves.

Recently swapped Mahrez and Hughes to Martial and Lamela.

What’s your take on this please?

    Foster
    Robertson, Mendy, Coleman, Cédric
    Salah, Martial, Lamela
    Agüero, Aubameyang, Tosun

    Fabianski, Stephens, Gunnarsson, Peltier

I get the appeal with Martial & Lamela but they’re a transfer waiting to happen. It’ll probably cost you at least a -4 or a premature wildcard.

Lamela could be an option all the way up until the end of August while Martial is an easy swap to an Arse mid.

Shouldn’t be too disruptive picking them no?

An Arsenal mid is hardly anything to be fixated on. They're wait-and-sees at best. What'll you do if they show no form?

I’ll keep Martial for his brace. 😉

Early wcs could be on the agenda anyway with all the World Cup players returning.

Could be. But no reason to plan for it. There are more than enough good nailed players that have already returned to build a team with.

If nothing else happens with your team (injuries/suspensions), you should be fine tbh.

Mahrz for that 0.5. But if you can afford it, Sane. He's had a couple of season getting along with Pep's system. Mahrez may not hit full gear as quickly, settling in a new way of play and all that.

Pick the one you will have the best return in the first 5 games. A. Mahrez B. Sanchez C. Morata

difficult, I would go on form. Mahrez stands out, Sanchez could be better but still an unknown based on how ineffective he was in that United team last season and Morata looks like he will be gone by the start of the season.

Jimenez likely to start at striker every/most games for Wolves?

A few Wolves fans tell me that they'd like Bonatini to start. Jimenez has the same chance imo. Jota was played CF vs Ajax, but apparently he plays better on the left wing?
      Going Jota for me.

    First RMT of the season.

Avoided WC players like the plague, apart from Salah, who has returned to training and is the highest owned player and most popular captain pick for GW1.

If team performs I may hold wildcard but in all likelihood, will deploy it once the WC players return to game time.

    Fabianski
    Bailly - Bavies - Robertson - Sakho
    Salah(C) - Mahrez - Sane
    Wood - Auba(vc) - Austin

    Adrian - Cedric - Stephens - Gunnarsson

    Talk to me.

    Southampton vs Derby today.
Love the Saints, but can't help but want Frank to get a decent result.

Anyone worth watching FPL-wise? Surely who gets the nod for the Striker berth+ lowkey checking out Bednarek?

He is likely to start just the first 2 games (don't believe everything Mou says).

People already planning a FT for him after 2 weeks. And suddenly an Arsenal mid looks a must-have to them. Not for me, unless he really impresses in pre-season. Would rather pick a nailed player and not pre-plan transfers
