Once more Arsenal’s best Stallion has pulled up lame as Cesc Fabregas was withdrawn from play in the second half of Arsenal’s two-nothing away loss at Braga in the Champions League with another hamstring injury. Wenger is quoted as saying (see: 21:50)…
“It’s a hamstring injury on the other leg, and it’s hard to say how long he’ll be out for. He’ll definitely miss the weekend game.”
Given that – as I highlighted earlier in my Frisking the Fixtures piece – Arsenal head into one of their leaner spells when it comes to match-ups this season, a £12m Fantasy Premier League (FPL) investment who is definitely out for the weekend, and maybe longer, with a strong susceptibility to injury is not going to be many people’s flavour of the month. Expect to see Fantasy Managers transferring out en masse…
Samir Nasri will once again peek up onto the radar screens of those wanting to stick in the Arsenal ballpark as will anyone not yet on the wagon hitched to Dutchman Rafael Van Der Vaart, another player who’s had his injury issues this season. Carlos Tevez looks likely to be another key recipient of favour following this news as players look to switch up their allocation of funds from midfield to attack.
One thing is clear, this is happening more and more often with Fabregas now and with him being the third most expensive player in the game – and as Granville points out his “ideal” replacements are also on the sidelines – the transfer world will be aflutter with Fantasy Manager’s sitting on huge stockpiles of funds.
…Emmanuel Eboue also picked up an injury.
