Following the high in Gameweek 5, Eden Hazard was back to his usual self in Gameweek 6, blanking at West Ham.
He scored a brilliant goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, so you know what that means for Saturday’s league fixture against the same opponents. Another blank is on the way!
Is it time to board the Harry Kane train?
Quite a few FPL managers are itching to get Harry Kane in ahead of his next two fixtures: Huddersfield away and Cardiff at home (Wembley). He’s also the standout captaincy option for Gameweek 8 which is the big pull factor.
To get him this week, I’d have to lose Mohamed Salah. With two free transfers, I could switch Mo for Richarlison and get Kane for Callum Wilson which is very tempting, but I’d want Salah back for Gameweek’s 9 and 10 when he faces Huddersfield and Cardiff himself.
Moving to Kane from someone like Aubameyang or Lukaku is a lot easier.
I fancy Salah to deliver against Chelsea and Man City over the next two weeks. I’m leaning towards keeping him and using my transfers elsewhere to improve the overall strength of my squad.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is also high on my Watchlist. He’s outperforming Kane having scored five goals in the opening six matches. The Serbian is also second only to Aguero for goal attempts this season.
Jamie Vardy is another striker worth some consideration. Owned by just 4.1% of managers, Leicester have as good a run of fixtures as any team right up to Christmas. He gets a rest during international breaks and has no European football to worry about.
Maddison (£6.8m) vs Richarlison (£6.6m)
Lots of managers are having to choose between these two ahead of Gameweek 7. Both are excellent FPL options.
Maddison is like a mini-Eriksen (the difference being that he actually scores FPL points this year). He commands set pieces and tends to pick up bonus points when he delivers. He’s got Vardy ahead of him to finish the chances he creates.
Richarlison is the more explosive player. He performed well against Arsenal on his return from suspension registering four goal attempts. I can see him getting at least 15 goals this season.
He’s likely to join Maddison in my midfield by the time Saturday rolls around.
Pep Roulette
David Silva may be the player to make way for the Brazilian. There have been whispers this week that the Spaniard cannot play three games in a week. He played sixty-two minutes against Oxford United in midweek which is worrying for his owners ahead of this weekend’s Brighton tie.
Pep Guardiola’s men then travel to Germany next week to face Hoffenheim in the Champions League and play Liverpool at Anfield in Gameweek 8.
Silva may be wrapped in cotton wool this weekend with those fixtures in mind. Pep can afford to rest him with options such as Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gündogan, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sané all performing well. The City midfield is a minefield.
The Benjamin Mendy situation is a strange one. First, it was his knee, then his ankle, now it’s his metatarsal. Reading between the lines, it’s probably a disciplinary issue. He hasn’t tweeted since Saturday which is unusual for him. If there is no update on his availability by Friday night, he’ll be leaving my squad for Trippier or Doherty.
Good luck to all in Gameweek 7. Enjoy Super Saturday.
