It’s all about Harry Kane in the world of Fantasy Premier League this week, and with good reason.

In this latest article I’ll be giving my thoughts on whether he’s worth signing for Gameweek 8 as well as touching on a few other areas.

They include Manchester City rotation and my plans for budget options in defence and attack.

To Kane or not to Kane?

Kane is the standout captaincy option in the final Gameweek before the dreaded international break as Spurs host Cardiff. A brace against Huddersfield last week and a goal against the mighty Barcelona on Wednesday night has FPL managers ripping up their teams to fit him in.

Will he send his backers into the break buzzing or will he frustrate in a so called ‘easy fixture’ like he has done many times before? Is he back to his best or is it chasing last week’s points?

Whether you’re on the Kane train or not, Saturday’s game at Wembley is sure to be entertaining.

When I finish typing this, I’m going to hoover my living room, paying more attention than usual to the area behind the couch because that’s where I’ll be from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday.

As much as I’d like to own Kane and captain him this weekend, I don’t want to lose Eden Hazard, Mohamed Salah or Sergio Aguero to do so. Spurs have a tricky run of fixtures after the Cardiff match and he hasn’t passed my eye test yet this season.

The David Silva myth

There’s a belief among some in the FPL community that David Silva can’t play three games in a week because a ‘source’ claiming to be ‘close to the player’ said so. This information came out when the Spaniard was rested for the Cardiff game. Since then, he’s played three games in seven days against Oxford United, Brighton and Hoffenheim.

Like the Sergio Aguero fiasco in Gameweek 2, the lesson here is to trust your instincts rather than those of others who claim to be ‘in the know’. I expect to see Silva’s name on the City team sheet for the Liverpool game on Sunday. He’s pivotal for them while Kevin De Bruyne is out, and he’s got two weeks to put his feet up afterwards, having retired from international football.

That said, even though I think he’ll play this weekend, Silva could be the makeweight in a double move I make to improve my strike force. Five games without a goal for Callum Wilson has me worried and losing patience. I’m eyeing up Marko Arnautovic to replace him with Richarlison coming in for Silva.

The Holebas roller coaster

As the clock ticked past eighty minutes at the Emirates on Saturday, Holebas was looking good for an unlikely clean sheet and three bonus points. It was too good to be true. He’s now scored me a grand total of two points from three matches since I brought him in after accumulating thirty-four points in the opening four Gameweeks.

I’ll be taking another ride on the Holebas roller coaster this week, so you can be certain that he’ll pick up his fifth yellow card of the season after Callum Wilson wipes out his clean sheet!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 8 and stay strong during the international break.

You can follow the FPL General on Twitter HERE. He has achieved three top 500 finishes in the last four seasons.

Good to go with 4-4-2 this week? Unsure on WB vs Bennett, or if I should bench both in favour of Ings at home to Chelsea...

    Ederson
    Trippier / Robbo / Alonso / WB
    Hazard (c) / Mane / Maddison / Richarlison
    Aguero / Vardy

    Hamer / Ings / Bennett / Billing

Ludicrous suggestion. Fraser is in spectacular form and no player near his price is comparable. He's easy on the eye and his numbers speak for themself. You cant expect an 18 pt haul from a 5.5-6mil mil every week.

To OP your team is GTG. If anything i'd go

        Hennessey&Wilson > Hart&Arnie

Good to go ? -(carrying free transfer for Kane to Vardy/Arnie and BSilva to Mane/Salah next week). Or would you avoid Wolves double up goalie and defender and play AWB over Doherty or Foster over Patricio? Keep changing mind on this...

    Patricio
    Trippier Doherty Alonso
    Hazard BSilva Richarlison Fraser
    Kane (c) Aguero Mitrovic

    Foster AWB Tomkins Billing

Now I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but just played around with a free hit team for this week...

    Hart
    Trippier | Alonso | Doherty
    Ozil | Son | Gudmondsson | Hazard
    Lacazette | Arnautovic | Kane (C)

With a bench of Jonny | Bennett | Brooks

What do you guys think? Obviously would be a crazy/terrible decision with the FH chip so devastating in blank GWs but I sure am tempted!

      I’m weighing it up too.

      Would go something similar:

Hart; Tripp, Alonso, Shaw, Maguire; Son, Gudmundsson, Haz; Kane, Laca and Arnie.

Bench would be 4, 3.9, 4.4, 4.3, unless there was cash itb to get decent subs.

          You are?

Haha - I just assumed it was madness. Free hit in a blank GW should give you about +20 points..

Reckon we get 20+ if we use it this week?

Shaw could be a great shout if they bounce back - just so awful to watch united these days

            7 years, 2 months ago

Well, I've haven't played in a few years, so not up to speed on the best time to use FH.

But this week, I honestly think my FH team could beat my current team. If Liverpool-City is 1-1 without Salah/Kun being involved, I could see a 40-50 pointer. So then it would depend on Haz smashing Southampton.

Meanwhile, Kane (c), Son and Tripper could reach 50 points between them!

    Thoughts on my team lease?

    Patricio - Hamer
    Alonso - Trippier - AWB - Bennett - Schelotto
    Sterling - Richarlison - Fraser - Ward - Schneiderlin
    Kane - Aguero - Vardy

FT used and 3m in the bank.

    GW 9 - Schelotto ➡ TAA
    GW 10 - Sterling + Kane ➡ Salah + Arnautovic for -4
    GW 11 - Fraser ➡ Hazard

    Thoughts?

    Team is
    Ederson/hamer
    Alonso,Robbo,AWB,Holebas and walker
Hazard, richarlison,Maddison, neves and Hudson odoi (only because of price)
    Kane, laca and mitro.
    With 1.2m in the bank.
My plan all along was to wildcard in the second IB. Having reviewed this I've decided not to but to instead swap AWB after this gw for TAA (AND PLAY DOUBLE pool defence gw 9 and 10). Then walker to mendy for gw10.

I think the wildcard is better saved for a salah revival (If indeed there is one) rather than potentially wasting it now to probably just have a stronger bench.
I know Hudson odoi and hamer need to go probably along with neves (who I've had since week 1) but I don't think it's worth a wildcard.

    Any helpful suggestions please ?

Definitely. His form is getting worse by the game and now he's on a very long round-trip to Africa and back. Doesn't look good. My plan was Salah and AArnold back in after the break. That changed to Mane and Robertson. That's looking like Sterling and Robertson now due to form.

The way things are going, Milner has more chance of scoring than Liverpool's front three, and we may well see rotation for those two fixtures.

I'll definately be keeping Kane, might double up in defence with TAA/VVD and Robbo for those two fixtures instead.

Fabianski - Button (loving the way West Ham looks atm and they have good fixtures long term)
        Alonso - Shaw - Trippier - Digne - Wan B
        Hazard - Sterling - Richarlison - Knockaert - Billing
        Kane - Mitrovic - Deeney

Allowing me to play 3-4-3, 4-4-2 and 4-3-3.

Just a post to inform anyone interested that myself a two others do a podcast on YouTube discussing all things FPL.

A bit like how Who got the Assist started, just three blokes obsessed with FPL, chatting about our ML and previewing the upcoming GW

Last year it was just two of us doing it privately for our ML Facebook group, but this year we got someone else involved (Jason) and decided to upload to YouTube (link here if interested watching)
        https://youtu.be/UqUBAHeXOHo

Anyhow, this year myself (Steve-O) Jason and Ben, third in our ML, are having an excellent season so far (Jason's 876th, Ben 4116th and myself 7167th)

We've decided this week to split our podcast into two separate ones, first part predominantly talking our ML (which obviously covers all things FPL) and the second part to be released tonight is previewing the upcoming GW

Once again, if anyone reading this is interested in watching the links here:
        https://youtu.be/UqUBAHeXOHo

        Thanks for reading

Seriously thinking Salah and Kun > Kane and son/ moura this gw for a hit. Then reversing the transfers for next gw. The hits might just pay off. Madness?

Worth a shot for this week imo.

I dont think it is. I am doing Salah+Zaha to Maddison and Kane I think. 2FT

I think your transfers and his are very different. Yours make sense and are free... you're not going to want Zaha for upcoming games, Salah is not going to cost money to get back if you want him.

it is because you're taking -8 over 2 weeks... you're basically going to the casino and putting a massive chunk of your pot on black. Despite what Wesley Snipes says, it doesn't always pay to bet on black.

Son/Moura not exactly nailed. I assume you've owned Kun from GW1? If you want him back at some point, you're only going to get 11.2 for him and will be paying 11.4 to get him back.

I mean, all the probabilities are in favor of Kane scoring a couple this weekend. But net-net, cash you will pay away and 8 pts, is it worth it? It looks marginal at best.

What do you think is the best < 4.6 Keeper for set and forget? I'm thinking Patricio or Fabianski but I have Doherty. Replacing Ederson to free up Funds.

No particular clue what transfer to make this week. I might just save the FT.

        Mind giving me your suggestions?

        DDG
        Trippier, Robbo, AWB (or Doherty)
        Hazard(C), Salah, Bilva, Fraser
        Aguero, Zaha, Mitrovic

        4.0, 4.4, 3.9

        I have 0.2ITB 1 FT

Gtg ... two frees with the IB and fixture switch gw 9 valuable

Kane may haul or not but can't cover everything

Cheers, any idea on AWB vs Doherty? Could even bench Robbo if I have the minerals

I almost got Doherty last week for a hit, but that was for his absolutely plum home fixture.
By that logic I'd play AWB.

I would play Doherty. Confidence high at the moment. Always helps.

Is Hazard going to play tonight? Or rested again?

I would have thought he'd be rested in these early games and only start playing once/if Chelsea get through to the latter stages but who knows for sure.

Looking to get Kane this week, but need to free up funds. Which of these?

        a) Lucas Moura > Maddison

        b) Robertson > TAA
