Fantasy Premier League Question Time is here yet again to help solve your problems ahead of Gameweek 14.

Liverpool were unconvincing once again, even in a 3-0 win over Watford at the weekend, and some managers are still contemplating move their assets on.

The form of Leroy Sané has caught the eye, and could be a good alternative to the Reds’ midfielders.

We address that subject as well as how to approach the Christmas period and handle life in the top 10,000 Fantasy managers in this article.

Who’s on the panel this week?

FPL Holly – The founder and editor of Fantasy Football Community, as well as a contributor to the FPL Show this season. Holly was sitting just outside the top 1k going into Gameweek 13.

Who Got the Assist? – Nick and Tom are familiar names on social media as the two halves of Who Got the Assist?, the popular Twitter account and podcast. The WGTA boys have also featured on the FPL Show this month.

Chief FPL Manager – Another member of the Fantasy community with a huge Twitter following, “Chief” runs the FPL Hints website and has six top 1% finishes to his name.

Question 1 – Chief

Louis Stein: Is Sané looking like a good option with Mendy out and Pep’s post-match comments regarding Sterling and Mahrez fighting for the right wing spot?

“The more I think about it, the more Leroy Sané makes sense. With 33 points in his last two Premier League starts, he can no longer be ignored.

“Of course he won’t register double digit returns on a weekly basis but if last season’s performances are anything to go by, he’s more than capable of registering a Fantasy return for almost every 90 minutes played.

He was extremely unfortunate not to make the national squad at the summer’s World Cup and it’s fair to say that Die Mannschaft were a weaker unit without him.

“But for what it’s worth, this de facto ‘rest’ and the initial lack of game time up until early September could substantially benefit him in the form of being protected from mid-season burn out.

“Having said that, the spectre of Pep’s rotation will always be risky, especially with the upcoming annual fixture rush in December. Sané won’t be immune to it.

“However, as has been evident in the early stages of this season, Raheem Sterling has also missed out at times in the league too.

“But without Mendy’s presence until at least mid-January Sané may be an automatic starter, subject to on-going form.

“There’s no doubt that with ownership of less than half that of Sterling’s and a price tag costing £2m less that he’s effectively a rare Manchester City attacking differential.

“Best of all, because of his price, you can fit him in your team along with Laporte and Aguero, but this would be far more difficult if you were trying to shoehorn Sterling instead, alongside your other premiums.”

Question 2 – Who Got the Assist?

Fred W: Do you plan on holding Liverpool assets over the festive period? If not, when are you ditching?

“I plan on holding a defender (Robertson) for definite. Their defensive solidity is shown by the fact they’ve conceded the fewest shots on target over the last six Gameweeks.

“In terms of the attack, it’s harder to decide.

“Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are the key men there and are (especially in the case of Salah) returning points regularly.

“It’s up to you whether they are value for their price tag or if you think other emerging options are better targets.”

Question 3 – Holly

Doug: With a non-playing second goalkeeper, what are the best options for a set-and-forget keeper over the Christmas period?

“The premium goalkeepers look to be great options over the festive period, as they won’t get rotated, whereas the more expensive defenders are more likely to be.

“Take your pick from any other then Leno, with Ederson the standout.

“Personally, I prefer to have a cheap goalkeeper in my squad, where save points can bolster point totals, along with clean sheets.

I’m tempted by a move to Fabianski, given West Ham’s fixtures. He’s second for saves and joint top for bonus points.”

Question 4 – Who Got the Assist?

James: What are your key tips on climbing the ranks whilst in the top 10k? Template teams are rife with effective ownership considerations playing a part in keeping it that way.

“In the top 10k, it’s about biding your time.

The attraction would be to take risks to try to push on, but if you want to keep climbing it often comes down to one or two very small moves which makes the difference.

“When I (Tom) finished 2.3k in 2015/16, I was in the top 10k all season and, frankly, played a very safe game until the double Gameweeks when I went for it with a few bold picks and was richly rewarded.

So it’s about picking your moment and treading water by playing safely in the meantime. Good luck!”

    How's this for a wildcard?

    Fabianski - Boruc

    Alonso - Laporte - TAA - Dunk - AWB

    Salah - Hazard - Sane - Fraser - Camarasa

    Aguero - Arnie - Kamara

    Leaves me with 0.7 ITB.

Alternatively could get Sterling instead of Sane, but downgrade Arnie to Jimenez to facilitate that. Or Kane + Jimenez instead of Aguero + Arnie. Thoughts?

      It looks pretty solid.

I wouldn’t exactly want to be playing Camarasa most weeks though....

Maybe downgrade Fraser to Brooks and upgrade Kanars to Jiménez?

Not certain about playing Camarasa each week. Do Dunk/AWB rotate ok for the number 11 spot?

    Thoughts on this lot?

    Fabianski

    Alonso, TAA, Doherty

    Salah, Hazard, Mahrez, Richarlison

    Aguero, Arnie, Jimenez

Subs - Murphy, AWB, Balbuena, Button

    1 FT, 0.4M ITB.

The obvious seems Mahrez to Sané but in hustbdhort so would involve a hit. Currently thinking to just give Mahrez one last chance and roll the transfer......

Could be counter productive moving Mahrez on this week, so guess il roll the transfer.

    A.....Arnie in 343 . Hogg as 5th mid

    B....fandersen in 352....kamara 3rd forward

Just concerned with arnie injury record. But not sure Anderson is an answer. Not much else around 7m Mark that I'm keen on

Sané at that price imo.. taken off early tonight, so looks set for good minutes vs Bournemouth. Longer term, he’ll probably start most whilst mendy is out. Explosive option.
Most of the same can be said about Sterling to be honest but £2m is a big difference for me

Both teams have 2 decent options. It isn't often you need a 3rd sub. If I end up missing out on a 2 pointer twice during the winter by not having a playable 3rd sub coming on for 2 points it is not really a huge loss.

Haha, I see we differ in that respect- I think I’ll need a strong bench over Christmas with a couple of rotation risks in there. Granted though, captaincy looks a problem. Cheers

Fraser to Brooks for example frees up some cash and gives you a strong bench option and allows cash elsewhere.

Indeed. Though I’m reluctant to part with Fraser as I’ve had him since the off, 0.7m is always useful. Obviously your ideal team would be structured completely differently and have fewer of my mid priced options, but which of these would you be most willing to boot in order to afford a strong captaincy option?

Interesting which actually works out better

Sure you could have a decent player on the bench who comes in for a rotated pitch player but of course they have to actually do well in that fixture

to the contrary you have a really stronger first team, players get rotated and likely you'll get 2 points come in, but in the weeks they play the return is likely to be higher for the real big hitters

So is it a really good spread of wealth that brings in the pitch returns or the big hitters when they do play

I like to have options because when the tough games come you can rotate your own team a little to try and get the best out of it

But looking at recent times, having Sane Sterling Salah D Silva Kun TAA Robbo and shocking players around them would have resulted in the best returns

          1. Tev
            • 8 Years
            7 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, I can see the logic to both- Demel’s WC team (above) is littered with strong options in the starting XI. I personally like to rotate my team e.g. I’d be happy to bench a £6.6m Mitro vs Chelsea for AWB this week

    How's Anderson been looking ?

Just need a decent 7m starter, Fraser fixtures puts me off, Pereyra too inconsistent

Did Sane actually get subbed to rest him or because he wasn’t playing very well?

Salah, Richarlison, Martial to Silva, Mane & Sane -8

    A) Good move
    B) Bad move, too risky

Rationale: Need City mids, want Liverpool cover, Salah is doing ok but barely outscoring Mane at 3m price difference and is taking up funds. It would mean I swerve Kane but I'd still have Aguero & Hazard along with those 3, all in my team.

Best to stick and hold transfer here or risk and get sane in for potentially a more nailed player?

    henny
    robbo - alonso - doherty - awb - pereira
    sterling(c) - salah - mane
    arnie - jiminez

    hamer - richa - ings - fraser

tough one is back sAne to out score mane in medium term so would probBly go for it unless you might want two frees badly next week

Stick. Sterling owner - same predicament. I have 100% losing record making choices like this so I don’t bother any more. :).

I'd bring him in, it would be great if you could manage richy to Sane but I'm not sure what your funds are like. I'd back him to outscore Mane too given that he's a lot more closer to being nailed with Mendy injured, seeing as you have Salah.

I do have 1.6 itb and have eyed up either

        Richa + ings > sane + fodder (-4)

        Or

        Richa + Fraser > sane + brooks (-4)

        Any thoughts?

I wouldn't do those hits . You have a good starting eleven as is and deep squad. Taking hits is in contradiction to the solid strategy you are employing of maintaining a deep squad.

    How does this look?
For gw13: Barkley -> Sane (free)
    For gw14: Aguero+Hazard+Wilson -> Kane+Sterling+Kamara (-8)
(possibly for gw15: Martial -> Son) (free)

    Current squad:

    Ederson Patricio
    Alonso Robertson Trent Doherty Bennett
    Hazard Martial Richarlison Fraser Barkley
    Aguero Arnautovic Wilson

    1 FT, 3.8 itb

Some managers are going for Sane because he was subbed off today at 70’.

Sterling the better long-term pick IMHO but I’m not convinced he plays against Bournemouth. Owner.

It's more the case wether to get Sterling or not for me. Have Kun and Ederson already, and need to get that third City spot right.

Literally can't say anything about the sub - if the team were winning fairly comfortably then you'd expect players required for the weekend to be subbed

But when the game is tight and you want to draw at least or win it's more likely tactical

So who knows who'll play, who knows whether he thinks BOU is tougher or wat is tougher

does he want to rest some players this weekend and play them both away games that follow or play and rest midweek when more players might be back

      it's just all guess work

the move is good for the future gw's that's the main thing
