FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 23

With only two more Gameweeks to contest in the rest of this month, January provides a little respite for Fantasy managers after the hectic festive period just gone.

There is plenty to consider ahead of next Saturday’s deadline and indeed in the medium term, be it blanks, doubles, the abundance of premium options, chip strategies or the fallout from this weekend’s matches.

Our rotating guest panel – which this week includes a former winner of Fantasy Premier League – are here to help answer any Fantasy-related queries you may have.

Make sure you submit your question in the form below to consult our panel.

Who’s on the panel this week?

Chief FPL Manager – A member of the Fantasy community with a huge Twitter following, “Chief” runs the FPL Hints website and has six top 1% finishes to his name.

Ben Crabtree – The proud Evertonian who was the overall winner of FPL in 2016/17.

FPL Family – The popular married couple who play FPL together, running a YouTube channel and Twitter account to document their battles.

Hopefully Guaita won't lose his place/remain injured but who is the best keeper to get in a few weeks time if so?

    Currently only have 0.2 free...
    A. Ryan (have Button)
    B. McCarthy
    C. Hennessy (if long term)
    D. Find the funds for Etheridge/back to Fabs again.

In a few GW time the situation may have changed, maybe Ryan by then.

I had Ryan since GW5 and swapped out for Fabs once the fixtures turned red, probably going to stick on Fabs now until GW33

    My FPL team:

    Fabianski
    VVD - Digne - Doherty
    Pogba (C) - Hazard - Salah - Richarlison
    Aubameyang - Rashford - Jimenez

Hennessey - Pereira - WanBissaka Billing

    FT: 2

    Is it time to replace:
    1) AUBA, Hazard -> Kane, Sane?
    2) AUBA, Hazard, Hennessey -> Alisson, kun, sane (-4)?

So I had the captaincy on Kane last week and last minute changed it to Hazard because Scout said Hazard is better than Kane. Hazard blanked while Kane got a goal and assist (12 point haul). This week I had it on Richarlison, changed it to Aubameyang because the Scout said he's a 'great' option and possibly the best option this week. Aubameyang gets 2 points.

Lesson learned: Don't listen to the Scout and follow your gut.

I have now had two blank captains in a row because of the scout advice and dropped from 12K to 100K. fml

I check the scout to see how many players selected I have picked. If it’s half or more the same I have a meltdown - usually means will have average week. The picks always make sense from data but it never totally works out

      1. Lukaku91
        • 8 Years

yes I feel too much wieght is given to 'data' such as 'shots in the box' or whatever. this does not guarantee anything. also Salah is almost invisible vs brighton, he gets a penatly and 11 points for that; one good action in 90 minutes. Thats 3 pens in the last 4 and Scout is gonna act like they 'told you' Salah is essential. Its a joke. Salah deserved to blank for that game but sometimes fpl is a game of luck. Anything can happen in any given game. If Milners on the pitch Salah gets 2 points vs brighton.

hi, I've noticed a tendency for people to justify hits by saying it will pay off in the long run. The problem with this logic is that 9/10 out of you can do the same moves the next week ( or the second part of it) for free thereby still reaping the long term benefits of said move. You might argue then that it frees up a future transfer but this is counterintuitive in the sense that you are effectively saying I'm going to burn points now to have an opportunity to make up for what I'm burning now with extra "free " trades in the future yet one is paying for them now with the hits in effect. I'm not saying never take hits but I think one should be extremely selective with them and make sure that one has the right mathematically sound justification for doing it.

You/one can't mathematically justify a hit because obviously none of us knows how many points players will score in a gameweek. It's a gamble in keeping with it being a game.

    3. ZeBestee
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

Hits do work indeed. Depends if your team badly needs it. I dont mind taking hits if i really need them but of course you try and avoid them as much as you possibly can.

    4. Now I'm Panicking
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

If there was an optimal way to approach hits we would all use that method. Some people take lots of hits and do well, some do badly. Similarly some people who take no hits do well, and some do badly. More than one way to skin a cat 🙂

      • 10 Years

Once I stopped taking hits my end of season ranks shot up. Hits make you lazy when it comes to planning and open you up to making punts that explode in your face

    1) Martial + Felipe to Sane + CHO
    2) Martial + Felipe + Kola to TAA + Sane + CHO (-4)
    3) Martial + Felipe + Auba to Kane + Sane + CHO (-4)

Which one of these would you do? Also, if (3) then would you go Sane or Eriksen?

Bring in Salah. You can't go without now with the high ownership and captaincy.

Salah playing as forward but getting one more point per goal with best defence so getting one point for cleanie. Worth 1 mill more than Kane easily

It's the same as my defence, as I am sure it is the same as a lot of people on here.

Honestly, I'm not looking at concrete plans for each of the next 7 GWs, but as a rough plan that's more than fine.

Bizarre planning out your team that far ahead like that, the game doesnt work like this. One red card/injury and this is down the pan simply put

Pick a squad that works for next 6 and identify where you may change if you have to. Really hard to pick all games - something will change your mind for sure

    Hamer - Fabianski
    Robertson - TAA - Digne - Doherty - AWB
    Hazard - Richarlison - Anderson - Pogba - Deulofeu
    Auba - Kane - Ings*

Have 2 FTs and need Lpool attack. Which one would you do:

    A) Sane >> Mane

    B) Haz, Alonso and FAnderson >> Salah, Robbo and max 6.5m mid. -4

    1. KingZZ
      • 7 Years

Don't get Mane. He is not worth the price tag.

    What would you do:

    a) Son, Auba --> Pogba, Kane
    b) Son, Auba --> Eriksen, Aguero
    c) Son, Auba --> Eriksen, Rashford
    d) Keep Auba (I have 0.3 profit on him). Get rid of Son and Ings (might be back for two upcoming home games).

I’d go A, depending on what I see in the Spurs - Man U game.

An out of sorts Pogba could mean Moura may enter my thoughts,

Thanks guys. Got no City cover yet but Spurs and Man U fixtures look decent.
