Tyne to Shine

I personally feel Newcastle have a few options who we can look at getting in for the remainder of the season.  They’ve had a very tough run of fixtures for a while and Rafa has set his team up accordingly being quite difficult to break down.  Now having a break in the sun, I am hopeful they come back refreshed, and also hopeful they will set up more attack minded.

They only play 2 of the top 6 in their final 12 games.  The next 2 are plumb home fixtures to say the least (Huddersfield and Burnley) followed by 3 winnable games if they show any sign of form. (whu, EVE, bou)

Around this time last year, Newcastle seemed to find their stride and went on a great run of form.  Perez and Dwight Gayle finding their feet and Perez especially hit form in the last couple of months of the season.

I believe Rafa’s boys will have to have a real go on their return and I’m quite confident they can finish mid-table.

Forgetting his last minute error against Wolves, Dubravka (5m) has had a great season.  He could do well, as could Lascelles (4.6m), Yedlin (4.5m), Schar (4.6m).  The latter’s numbers do look better for that 21 point haul in GW 23 though again last night, he did show an intent to get forward.

Longstaff (4.5m) isn’t an FPL prospect this season.  Though he is a very good player who looks excellent at finding space and his team mates around him.  Though if Newcastle do approach this kind run of fixtures with more of an attacking intent, there is an opportunity to find a gem.  (Like I mentioned earlier, last season it was Ayoze Perez).

I don’t think Perez is the go to man though, as at 6.1m, their main man up top Rondon comes in at 5.7m.  I personally think he is a very underrated player with Newcastle not always playing to his strengths.  His hold up play is excellent, great in the air, but he’s also showed this season he is good with the ball at his feet.  I think he could do well.

Though one player I am definitely going to keep tabs on is midfielder Miguel Almiron (6m).  Early doors I know with this lad.  But in the 18 mins he played last night, he certainly showed intent.  He could be the exact kind of player that the Newcastle faithful get excited about.  I think he could well replace Atsu on the left and between him and Perez, give Rondon the support and link-up play he requires.

At the price, it doesn’t seem a huge gamble.  A lot will go Richarlison > Felipe Anderson and it’s a smart move you would think, though for those looking for a differential in that price bracket, you could do a lot worse.

I’d be interested to hear any Newcastle fans thoughts on whether they believe Newcastle can hit a purple patch now?  The opportunity is certainly there for them.

How do you see the rest of the Newcastle season playing out?

Really nice summary of the Newcastle assets above by Pep Pig.

After reading the Community Article, are you considering Newcastle assets more then before, or reconsidering them?

Who are your Newcastle picks and why? Are you looking at Rondon? Almiron? Who looks the best pick from their defence?

What do you expect from Newcastle from now until the end of the season?

Played big minutes since Ki injured then Diame and Shelvey 2 weeks later and now Diame back and supposedly Ki too and Shelvey just around corner?

Would only consider a defender due to Benitez's style of play, will be Lascelles or a Leicester man for me. Midfielders don't interest me at all. Rondon is a decent budget option, but can't see me dropping any of Rash/Jim/Kun in the immediate future to get him.

If I had 2FTs I would consider doing Digne to Schar or Perreira but I’ll prob just do Rich to Fanderson. Rondon could be interesting if Jimi or Rashers drop off

I agree Bushman. F Anderson. My 2 FTs more than like bringing Dubravka and Arnie in. Though if Almiron does well against Huddersfield, I'll more than likely make the move

Got Almiron last week before Sane dropped, expecting him to start soon ...also in regards to bgw31 planning to get Dubravka and rash downgrade to Rondon ... or some foxes players ... like Vardy, Maddison ... I think they’re all good differentials and with Liverpool triple up we could field 11 for bgw31

I like Lascelles. Did me well last season with his goal threat and tends to get some BPS during cleansheets

Almiron could be this season's January transfer hidden gem. Everyone will think Higuain as the main new asset to watch, but Almiron might be the mising 6m mid we can get value from for the rest of this season.

I just think the Newcastle fans need something to shout about. I agree Almiron is a bit of on an unknown to most. But there's no doubting he is lightening quick and showed real energy, tracked back and showed with his work rate he wanted to impress. I just feel he could be exactly what NUFC need to spark that excitement around the club again. It's not a huge gamble at his price and I personally think he's going to do very well

Had Adama Traore at Villa season we were relegated. The chant for him was "He's fast as f***" because that was all he was good for

Funny you should mention him as I almost did, knowing you might. Traore has no end product whatsoever, hopefully the difference here is Almiron might. Appreciate the step up is huge, but Rafa watched this lad for over 18 months and he could fit perfectly in to his team. He does appear to have flair to his game

No I haven't. I see where this could be going mate. I'm not trying to persuade you to sign him, just giving my view on the possibility that he could do well. Though I'm considering it. Would have loved to see one more game before the Huddersfield match to be fair. Though he could come on the radar for Burnley at home. "If" he does make an impact in GW 27, he could become quite a popular FPL asset

I´ve gotten him in already. Will likely get Rondon as well. The others don´t really look appealing..for me I feel Arno and/or King will sh%+ the bed again. I saw all I needed to see, Atsu´s days are numbered. Every player on that left side (LEJEUNE, RITCHIE even LASCELLES & RONDÓN) looked eager to show him off. His box-to-box nature meaning he´s coming back to help defensively will leave him loads of space to run at the back four for those Ronón hold-ups or Ritchie looking to play him inside on overlaps. That´s an easy, Rafa-friendly brand of futbol to play. Which is why he wanted one of the few excellent options out there.

Cheers mate, going well so far, just need to navigate this week without too much of a drop as I have a few out. Getting the captaincy right will be key.

How are you getting on this season?

Well seen as you asked pal.... 🙁 I started the season fairly well though made some transfer errors shortly after and had a terrible run of bad luck and bad decisions. Trying to outwit the template at times certainly backfired and I learnt my lesson (sort of)

Between wks 8 - 14 I had 8 red arrows putting me in a position of 938,624. 9 green arrows from the next 12 has picked my season up slightly currently sitting on 233,673.

I plan to keep getting green arrows mind and seeing where it can take me. I'm quite old school and didn't pick up on this season's new trends as quick as I should have. The Wolves players, Doherty in particular as well as Jiminez. It was quite clear early on that they were going to do well though I didn't monitor it as closely as I should have. I was all about Alonso/Mendy. Missing Robertson's fantastic form and opting for VVD thinking he'd score a few headers.

I'm happy with the progress I guess. Captaincy will be huge this week I agree. I'm personally bring Arnie in and putting the armband on him (unless I hear he won't be playing). Son is a close 2nd. Though I feel Auba and Son could lead the captain's pole this week?

Hey mate. I’m bringing Arnie in too. And probably Anderson. I really want to put the armband on Arnie, but I’m only about half certain at the moment. I could play safe with Salah (C), but the old gut is saying go all in on West Ham to crush Fulham.

I think this is the week you could get away with moving the captaincy from Salah. I say go for it if you think West Ham will do well.

It's why I chose just Arnie mate. I'm confident with him as captain. I decided to bring Dubravka in for DDG with me 2nd FT. Time is on your side for the next 9 days anyway 🙂

Good man Kal. I think my 4th midfield spot will hopefully go to Almiron providing he looks the part against Huddersfield. Also watching to see if Tielemans can gets more advanced against Palace as he's another player I like. Deulofeu has become to cushy in my team 😀

I've had similar seasons to the one you describe. In 2015-16 I struggled - think I was trying to be a bit too clever. Leicester won the league and I failed to jump on Mahrez and Vardy early doors, instead putting the armband on Walcott regularly!

There is still lots to play for though, I could still see you getting inside the top 50k, which would be a fantastic comeback.

Really not sure about captaincy this week. I don't own Son and I'm not convinced now is the time to bring him in looking at their next 3. Arnautovic is interesting - hadn't really considered him after the will he, won't he transfer issues. My current move for -4 is David Luiz, Sigurdsson and Kamara > Pereira, Anderson and Barnes or Rondon... I'm sure that will change though.

I like the move mate. I personally think Rondon edges it. Wood taking penalties probably sways it away from Barnes. I've liked Rondon every time I've seen him this season. Must be quite infuriating at times when he's been isolated. Though, as you know, I'm quite hopeful things are about to change there

Have a look at Fraser this week. Wolves are not great defensively and Bournemouth are much better home. You can bench 28/9 for his great run from 30. Failing that you have Fanderson.

You’ve plenty of cash in bank to upgrade Success next week to Barnes or Rondón.

Considering to go for a cheapie on midfield (who still plays, ex: Puncheon/Hojbjerg) and upgrading Success, or vice versa.. Stupid??? 🙂

Interesting piece, already going Kamara > Rondon for free this week, (gets me XI out playing) so getting in early on the Newcastle fix swing, on paper a great run-in.

I am currently at top 5k and I signed Almiron instead of Sane. One of the main reasons behind is that they play in the first blank gw, and most probably in the second.
Almiron's 20 minutes were enough to convince me. Newcastle are right now in Spain training and during the break Almiron will get to know the tactics and I am sure he will start. At 6.0 he is a bargain.
Schar is an interesting option but he is at 8 yellow cards...
Rondon later on, closer to blanks is another go--to option.
I was choosing between Maddison and Almiron, but Maddison didnt do well FPL wise.
PS I am 100% confident Newcastle will beat Huddersifeld by at least two goals, and score at least one to Burnley

I felt my 6 United/Pool players would cancel each other out, so with my 3 Citizens sitting out the GW, I had hardly anyone to put out. Those 9 will be good to go the next GW so it seems a decent moment, especially with triple Spuds and Arsenal that I don't want any other time.

Nice article. Just a couple of points:-

I’d be wary of the central mid spots for Newcastle with Diame and Ki recently returning from injury and Shelvey due to come back at some point

Up front the feeling amongst fans and journalists up north is Almiron will slot in behind Rondon at the expense of Perez, although he has the ability to play in a number of AM positions.

    1. Pep Pig
      • 7 Years

Thank you mate. If they did shake the midfield up and Almiron got the no. 10 position, potentially feeding off Rondon he could do very well. I notice Perez has been much deeper when I've seen him compared to last season. Nice to get a fans feedback. I see you have Rondon. Have you added a Newcastle defender this week? Or would you consider an attacking double up if Almiron tucks in behind?

Added Yedlin, 2 is more than enough for me. If I had more budget I’d have gone with a Leicester defender but I’m trying to shift my funds around

Personally I think Perez is still learning that role behind the striker and sometimes drops a little too deep looking for the ball.

Im seriously looking at Lascelles and Rondon. Need to get rid of Keane + Kamara.

Its between Pereira/Lascelles and Barnes/Rondon... Not sure if double NEW is the way to go but their fixture looks so good and Rafa is a class manager :/

I prefer Rondon as a player. If Wood didn't take the pens off Barnes it would probably be a closer call mind but from a fixtures aspect, I'd go Rondon. I do like Pereira and he'd edge it for me. I'll be watching the Newcastle game to see how Almiron fits in and links up with Rondon. Then likely bring one of them in for GW 28 onwards

Cheers - Also thinking along the same lines. I really think Almiron's presence is going to be great for Rondon. He's the only attacking threat for the team and Almiron would only increase the supply he gets - Almiron literally could not hurt the NEW attack.

Just 0.5M short of Pereira and Rondon combination. Could sacrifice Snodgrass to a 4.5M midfielder...

    Current GW27 team:

    Fabianski
    Robertson Doherty AWB Bednarek (Digne)
    Salah Pogba Son(C) (Sterling Richarlison)
    Jimenez Rashford Ings

Which of these would you go for?

    A. Digne and Richarlison > Pereria and Anderson
    B. Sterling and Ings > Camarasa and Aubameyang (C)

If I go for B I would likely do Auba to Aguero in 1 or 2 gameweeks.

Still debating between Dubravka, Schmeichel, Heaton as an Ederson replacement....

Dubravka has dropped clangers in each of his last 2... but that surely can’t continue & he has the FPL holy grail next in Huddersfield home
