Chilwell v Pereira: how they compare ahead of Leicester’s fixture turn

Form versus fixtures is the age-old debate in Fantasy circles.

Leicester City are without a win in the last five Gameweeks and sit joint-bottom of the Premier League form table over that period, having taken just one point from a possible 15.

The quality of their opposition has to be factored into the equation, however: the Foxes have faced Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs in their last three Premier League matches and also lost at seventh-placed Wolves in Gameweek 23.

The performances against those top four clubs in the last three Gameweeks have been encouraging, with Liverpool held to a draw and both Manchester United and Spurs perhaps fortunate to emerge from their encounters with Claude Puel’s side with all three points.

Last Sunday’s defeat at Wembley was especially harsh on the Foxes.

No Premier League side had more efforts on target or shots in the box than Puel’s side in Gameweek 26, while only Manchester City carved out more big chances.

Looking ahead, Leicester’s fixtures are among the most favourable in the division – perhaps even the best.

The Foxes are the only club to avoid any of the “big six” in the next nine Gameweeks, with all five of their home matches during that time against teams currently in the bottom half of the table.

Leicester’s defensive options are particularly worthy of consideration for this run.

Despite their recent winless sequence, only five teams have conceded fewer Premier League goals than the Foxes this season.

Crystal Palace are the only non-big six side to have kept more clean sheets, meanwhile.

With that in mind, we will take a look at two potential routes into the Foxes’ backline – both of whom offer the possibility of Fantasy returns at the other end of the pitch, too.

Ricardo Pereira (£5.3m) and Ben Chilwell (£5.0m) have both posted some impressive underlying statistics this season, though Pereira has had more joy from a Fantasy perspective so far given that he has registered eight attacking returns to Chilwell’s three.

We will compare the two full-back options in the Members’ article below, as well as looking at the case of another key component in the Leicester defence: centre-back Harry Maguire (£5.4m).

Anything wrong with WC GW30, FH 31, BB 32, TC 35?

Good thing is that they have good fixtures til week 30 so don't need to rush them out, and if you wind up being able to bench to store the value, say ahead of a WC in 32, that'd be great

Have Ederson in net with no second keeper and planning GW32 free hit.

Will not have a FT to use on a goalie transfer before GW31 so on current plan would have no one in net either blank GW.

Does this make a hit for Fabianski/Dubravka this GW sensible as 2 appearances pays off the hit?

Go either Fab or Schmeichel. A bgw match against Huddersfield is almost a clean in the bag no?

Schmeichel may be the better option as he’s guaranteed matches in both 31 and 33 and Fab isn’t.

          Quite.

He feels like a trap transfer to me - the new Kamara in the making. In any event it seems perverse to draft someone in in these circumstances who could get dropped.

    Wilson Arnie

I can’t field more than 7-8 players in GW31 without FH.

Reading a lot on here about how a Free Hit is wasteful in GW31 if there are fewer games (and therfore players to choose from), particularly as the teams are percieved as being average at best.

I think this needs to be put into context though. If you free hit and field 11 optimum players from those 4(or 5) games in GW31, granted they are not the elite teams, you are still going to steal a march on those that are planning on using FH in GW32 by at least 20 points in my opinion. Combine this with already prepping for GW32 over the coming weeks and a TC or BB then you could easily match someone who is using FH in Gw32 anyaway (with the points laready in the bag from GW31)

But what do you do for BGW 33?
Right now only Arsenal and Southampton have 32 DGW + game in 33.
(there will be more but you won't know for a while)

Assuming Utd beats Chelsea tomorrow, how many of these will you have in 31, without FH-ing?

              Fabianski
              Robertson Mee Lascelles*
              Fraser* Salah Mané Hazard Anderson
              Arnautovic Higuain

Id guess 3 or 4? (Robertson, Salah, one of Arnie/Anderson, one of Hazard/Higuain)

Depends on the 4 SF teams.

Man City, Wolves, Chelsea, and one of the other 3 would be tough.

Agree, a lot rides on tomorrow nights game and the QF draw after it. Anything from 1 to 4 blanks. Be interesting to see if peoples opinion on here changes if there are only 1 or 2 blanks in GW33

1 and 4 are very unlikely.Likely gonna be 2 or 3 blanks and it's favorable if palace and Watford blank in their irrelevant fixtures

Palace and Watford have irrelevant fixtures.Worst case scenario is man city ,Brighton,Chelsea, wolves in semis which means only arsenal and pool are the top 6 sides.Draws for fa cup crucial.Very likely spurs arsenal pool playing gw33

Really? If you free transfer your way to, say, 8 players in GW31, what are the chances the remaining three players would have got you "at least 20 points"?

i think quite high as you can pick an optimum 11 with all information right up until deadline, whilst it is like a game of chess trying to free transfer in 8 players over the next few weeks. In fact more like a game of jenga

Right, I take your point about the overall quality of the team being higher if you can wait until deadline. I guess the thing is we do get 5 weeks worth of Jenga-playing time up to GW31 whereas we have much time to prepare for the others.

Yeah, everyone had no problem jumping on the likes of Fraser, Wilson, Anderson, Arnie earlier in the season when they had good fixtures. All it needs is one good week for West Ham and Bournemouth in the lead up to GW31 and everyone will pretend like these conversations never happened. They'll come around I'm sure.

Just had a look at what XI I would FH to in 31, just in case. And that would leave me 4.7 itb... With Hazard AND Higuain (who would have a game if Utd wins tomorrow).

A FH which doesnt allow you to make the most of a high team value sounds like a waste of FH.

Sorry, I disagree. It's all relative and I don't think it matters if you aren't using full team value as long as your 11 players that week are the right ones. You can use all the money in the bank for GW 32, however, a lot of people will be picking the same players - players you may already have now

Don't understand the logic.Fh is a chip used to gain points and helps in ease in maneuvering the gws not for team value.Well there are no. of bargains this season anyway

Let's be clear about one thing. People are often freaking out about Martial not being spotted at the team hotel even when they have an adequate replacement on the bench. They are NOT going into GW31 casually with just 4-5 players. Sorry, that's hilarious talk.

The strategy for the run in I like:

Manage transfers for BGW31 (already have 6 players who have a fixture). The fact Liverpool don't Blank and have good fixtures means we don't need to compromise our squads for BGW31.

          WC for GW34
          FH for BGW33
          Roll the transfers
          BBGW35

Yeah the only (main) risk is 3 weeks between WC and BB.
Probably makes setting up for full 15 who will play more of a gamble.

I would have 2 free transfers that can help field a full BB35.

Plus BB are overrated, it's more important the 11 best players that you have along with secure bench players that have favorable fixtures

Hopefully. BB - I agree actually. Still in two minds about that chip as don't want it to greatly influence rest of chosen squad. Tends to underwhelm

Would you use TC on a DGW for sure or a fixture like Liverpool vs Hud. Would a Salah/Hazard/Aguero get more points on one amazing fixture (or arsenal 😉 OR 2 medium fixtures in a DGW? Look at Aguero for Everton...

On theBGW31 V DGW32 FH debate. Assume for a second that Man Utd win tomorrow meaning only 4 games in BGW31 and all blank games are rescheduled to DGW 32. I can use free transfers between now and DGW32 to then use BB and get 15 DGW players, including Doherty, Kola, Hazard, Sterling, Son, Pogba, Auba, Jimenez, Rashford. I think most teams who hold out to FH in DGW32 will have a lot of these 9 players. If they don't then another factor is that if you want to FH in DGW 32, you will want to have an optimum starting 11, which is harder to pick from a much greater pool of players, unlike picking 11 if using FH in BGW31
