Fantasy Allsvenskan: GW4

Early Friday Deadline!

Fantasy Allsvenskan is picking up pace and GW3 is already placing itself firmly in the rear-view mirror. It was a week where Paulinho showed up big time with two goals, an assist and three bonus points, where AIK lost their clean sheet (but also scored for the first time this season) and where a few budget options piqued our interest.

Before we get into a quick gameweek review I’ve got a public service announcement that is so important that I’m going to put it both here, and in the GW4 preview: The deadline for GW4 is this Friday at 12.30 CET! Don’t miss out and risk ruining the holidays…

Can we get by without Paulinho in our squads?

In short, yes. No player is ever truly “essential”, but some players tend to hog a lot of points on a frequent basis – quite a good characteristic for a player in fantasy football. Unfortunately (or perhaps we should be thankful, as it makes the game more interesting), the powers that be has put Paulinho in at a very premium price of 12.0m.  That means that having him tends to upset the balance of the squad somewhat and when his striking partner Alexander Jeremejeff is available at 9.6m, the choice between them gets that much trickier.

A potential double up is an option, but are you ready to not have any of the other good in-form strikers in your squad? Mohamed Buya Turay (9.5m) has scored three goals in three games as has Linus Hallenius (10.6m), to name a few.

Adi Nalic – flash in the pan or budget gem?

Adi Nalic (5.8m) has started his loan spell at AFC Eskilstuna from Malmö FF in a brilliant fashion, with his two goals and two assists giving him 23 points in total from three games. He’s currently the top scoring midfielder in the fantasy game and to put that into some perspective, only Paulinho beats him overall with his total of 26 points. The question that many are now asking themselves are, can he keep it up? Does he really need to at that price though? The community does seem to think that there is some mileage to that pick, as he now finds himself in 19% of the squads. AFC Eskilstuna has started off quite alright and do seem to be willing to put up a genuine fight to stay in the top-flight so interest in Nalic will probably continue.

AIKs defence breached

After two consecutive 0-0 results, AIK supporters where starting to get restless. Owners of a defensive double or treble up where understandably excited but IK Sirius had other plans as Philip Haglund (7.5m) broke the clean sheet extravaganza. AIK ended up turning it around in the end though and secured their first win of the season. Next up for AIK is traveling to a struggling Örebro SK side, while Sirius faces off against Malmö at home.

IFK Göteborg fell to a competent Djurgården

Try as they may, Göteborg can’t quite shake the economical issues that has put them where they’ve been for the last couple of seasons. What that does mean however, is that young and talented players will get plenty of gametime and a player that has reached out and grabbed that chance with both hands is Benjamin Nygren (5.7m). Scoring a goal and two assists last time around, Nygren looked threatening and besides hitting the post, also managed to hit the back of the net this time around as well. That means he is currently trailing Paulinho by just 5 points so far, for less than half the cost! A player that has started the season off really badly for IFK Göteborg though is Giorgi Kharaishvili (8.4m) and he didn’t cover himself in glory this time around either, getting a red card for his efforts.

Mohamed Buya Turay scored his third goal of the season and Jonathan Ring (7.5m) came away with two assists, both of them are potentially interesting picks going forward – although Djurgården’s upcoming schedule (Häcken away, Norrköping home, Hammarby away, Helsingborg away, AIK home) is looking a bit dicey.

Preview GW4

Yet again just a friendly reminder that the deadline for GW4 is this Friday at 12.30 CET!

Easy to miss yet equally painful none the less. As the holidays are getting on, the Allsvenskan players are afforded no leave of absence, so neither are us managers!

Östersund entertains Elfsborg as two teams that have struggled for consistency battle it out up north. Should be an open game with potentially quite a few goals, even though Östersund is a bit hard to place at the moment (having faced off against both AIK and Malmö away in the first three games). Pawel Cibicki (8.5m) and Hosam Aiesh (9.5m) to pick up the points?

IFK Norrköping faces off against Falkenberg at home, Norrköping with just two points from the first three games really need to start winning if they are to mount any kind of a threat to Malmö and AIK. Jordan Larsson (7.1m) with two goals so far looks a decent shout assuming he keeps his spot.

As mentioned Örebro plays against AIK and will be trying to go back to clean sheets, without losing out on their new attacking form. We all saw what Witry (5.1m) did to them in GW2… Örebro really needs to get their stuff together sooner rather than later if they are to avoid the drop, whether or not they are able to against AIK is another question.

In GIF Sundsvall-Kalmar, Linus Hallenius and Maic Sema (8.6m) will be looking to continue on their good individual form, while new Kalmar-coach Magnus Pehrsson needs to translate talk into points as they have yet to record a win this season. Sundsvall should have enough to make sure that doesn’t transpire in this gameweek at least.

Sirius entertains Malmö and even though they’ve started off well this will be an incredibly difficult task for them. In front of the home supporters (a lot of them students from Uppsala) they will give it their best though and if they can score against AIK, they should be able to score against Malmö. Will Malmö rotate again and suffer the consequences or stick with what works? Philip Haglund is one to watch here.

BK Häcken receives Djurgården fresh out of beating Göteborg at home. Will Paulinho keep it up, or is it Jeremejeff’s turn? Buya Turay and Jonathan Ring looks like ones to watch – can Witry get fit in time?

A somewhat dysfunctional Hammarby gets to square off against AFC Eskilstuna at home and they will be desperate to deliver the first win of the season in front of their fans. I don’t expect Eskilstuna to just roll over though and given the state of Hammarby’s defence, I’d say they’re currently equally likely to be on the scoresheet. Vidar Örn Kjartansson (10.0m) scored his first goal since coming to Hammarby but only managed a 5-pointer in GW3, maybe another goal or two this week? Can Nalic make it another week without blanking?

Finally, IFK Göteborg faces Helsingborg and all eyes will be on Benjamin Nygren, only 17 years old but already bearing the hopes of so many on his shoulders. Old favourite Lasse Vibe (8.5m) should not be forgotten though and if he’s match fit, this could be the game where he introduces himself yet again to our collective thoughts.

How did you do in GW3?

What are your plans for GW4?

And how on earth will we get all these strikers into three spots….

Happy holidays everyone!

Meltens

    Great stuff as usual!

I'm over-aware of the very early deadline but still might miss it. I might just make my moves now to make sure 😀

      Cheers! 🙂
Yeah, that makes sense, I think I'll try to finalise most of the WC-tinkering by tomorrow.

Hallenius or Paulinho is going to be a tough one, currently on Paulinho lining up next to Jeremejeff and Nygren.

Yup, had too many issues in my squad. Eskilstuna keeper losing his place, Odilon not starting, Henriksson only starting because Gregersen got a red card in GW2, Witry out, not enough AIK, wrong balance with mids etc. etc. 😉

I also feel like I've seen enough and I always like an early WC, when it "feels right".

I have Odilon, Witry, Henriksson and only Sundgren from AIK.

I will be selling Witry this week, most likely for an Ostersunds defender now the fixtures have swung in their favour - I posed a question about the best option below.

Odilon and Henriksson are so cheap they are almost not worth worrying about in my opinion. Happy to take their minutes if they're called upon.

I also feel I would like more AIK. I will be keeping faith in Islamovic one more week - then it is an easy switch to Obasi or even Nygren + upgrade to another AIK player elsewhere.

Odilion and Henriksson are there for their respective price, I get that. I feel that rotation, surprise injuries and suspensions tend to be quite frequent in Allsvenskan though, so I want to be a bit better covered I guess.
Nygren is amazing value, as long as he keeps his spot (which I think he will)!

Who of Nygren and Larsson do you prefer?

I prefer Larsson simpelt because he plays for a much better team and even though Norrkoping have started badly he still has scored twice and have played 90 min every game. If Notrkoping starts to get going which I think they definitely will with their next game against Falkenberg. Nygren is a very good player but I think that Göteborg will struggle to create chances for him to score against better sides. Thoughts?

I'm not too sure really.. I'm trying to find out more about minutes for Nygren.

With Kharaishvili, Soder, Karlsson-Lagemyr, and Nygren all getting minutes. Plus Vibe must be getting close to playing?

I think that Nygren will play basically every game for Göteborg. He has been the best out of all those players you just mentioned during these first 3 games. Göteborg are in a bad economic situation and Nygren is also the only one that has potential to get sold for quite a lot of money. Göteborg haven’t had this sort of talented attacking youngster for a while now and it looks like the manager believes a lot in Nygren. Maybe rotated a game here or there but for the most part he will start from what I can tell.

This is my thinking as well, the financial angle makes it more likely he gets the starts more often than not. Obviously not a certainty but at that price, it might be worth the gamble...

    Thanks Meltens!

I'm really keen to see how Vibe impacts Nygren's game time. The way Nygren played vs Djurgårdens it seems crazy to drop him. But given his age, it could be that Göteborg treat him a little bit like Rashford at Man United – at risk of rotation because he is being kept fresh.

For that reason (plus fixtures) I've brought in Larsson this week, upgraded from Hummet (who I've been disappointed to see barely feature!). I may even captain Larsson, although Jeremejeff is currently my pick.

Now I've got a playing front three of Larsson/Buya Turay/Jeremejeff. If Nygren retains his game time I may go Larsson > Nygren to facilitate Jeremejeff > Paulinho.

I've moved towards a more budget frontline in FPL. But at the moment, unlike in FPL, Allsvenskan has a wealth of returning attackers offering good value for money. So I'm happy with three playing frontmen, none of whom break the bank or compromise my team elsewhere.

Pleased to read that Gustav Jarl appears to be back in starting contention for Eskilstuna this weekend. I wonder if with Nalic as well, I'm making an error with two budget AFC options in midfield, even though they are decent enablers. No update on Witry's fitness I believe.

I don't know what the policy is here for sharing Twitter profiles and the like but I've set up one (in English as my Swedish really isn't quite up to it just yet!), trying to offer price updates/score updates where possible/significant injury news and whatnot. Will try to offer some analysis of major data points too.

My team's pretty much locked in at this stage. Still no points hit – maybe I'm learning from my FPL mistakes!

I have Nalic now too and am relatively happy. Can only be good for us that Jarl is close to back, really.

I'm worried about Nygren minutes too but I might just go with it. I'll have to dig a bit more

Yeah, Jarl returning and getting some more data to build on GW1 would be important.

As you were asking about Kharaishvili on Twitter earlier – local press in Göteborg reporting that the club was considering appealing the second yellow and trying to overturn the suspension. Nothing official lodged though I don't think.

      Excellent post! +1

Been burnt by Kharaishvili as I had him from the start, so not too keen on getting another Goteborg striker, haha. Although I have to admit Nygren is an interesting pick, especially at that price. I just think 3 premium forwards is the way to go, though.

I'm finding the range of strikers up for grabs really interesting and infuriating in equal measure!

I will wait on Nygren to see how his game time is impacted by Vibe. I think Nygren's done enough for short-term stability so wouldn't urge anyone to sell up – but the medium-term doubt is enough for me to avoid wanting to bring him in as a priority (especially with quite tough fixtures, too).

Really unsure. Not much consistency with clean sheets outside AIK (already have Dimitriadis).
ofk / sun have ok fixture runs on paper - but is Isherwood worth it / no clean sheet yet.

The big question for me now is Witry: keep, or replace him – even at a cost, if you've already made a transfer this week (I had another problem area to address, so have done exactly that)?

I take too many points hits in FPL and I'm not sure that's bright, for a defender. Especially as I have Mets and two defenders playing at home this week. Not like I'm short.

Aliti and Isherwood are the early runners I'm considering. I'm maxed out on AIK so no more room there.

If you have cover it might be worth waiting until next week as it is a swift turnaround with just two days between the last game of the week, and the next round of fixtures (Monday to Wednesday). If not for a hit, or you've not got an adequate cover on the bench, switching also makes sense.

I think I'm holding. I do have cover. It's not great (I hate having a team that has more away matches in a week than home matches!) but it's enough to get by.

Then I think I'll go Witry to Aliti next week, but not entirely convinced who. Aliti has the makings of a regular 4-6 point returner because of his bonus point prowess and is currently my favourite. Have submitted a 'Who could replace Witry?' article looking at a few options. Options could change with this week's fixtures and another data boost though!

Ooh thanks for highlighting Aliti, I'm on Wildcard but hadn't considered him to be honest. The issue there is I don't trust either Kalmar or their coach, don't think CS will be a regular occurrence but then again that doesn't seem to make any difference so far!

Hodzic is also an option for the same reasons + some attacking potential, he's got 4, 5 and 4 despite Eskilstuna conceding every game. The bonus is an interesting extra layer in Allsvenskan!

Just wanna remind people that we're now going into GW4, while GW5 is as early as midweek next week. Might not matter to some, but to me it certainly helps when I plan my transfers. For example, I'll probably keep Witry on the bench and make the other substitutions I was planning, and can then remove Witry in just a few days before the next deadline. He's 5.1 so I could afford a 0.1 drop in price, and this weekend will hopefully give me more information about who to replace him with.

      1. Bob Sacamano

Forgot to mention that GW5 is an absolute nightmare for us who's been loading up on players from the big clubs.

        AIK - Häcken
        Malmö - Hammarby
        Djurgården - Norrköping

More than half my team come from these clubs, and it's not likely to get both attacking and defensive returns there. So in one way, the injury to Witry could almost be a blessing in diguise. He's been so good it would be impossible to remove him unless he's injuried, but Djurgården are going into an awful schedule with few clean sheets in sight. This gives me a natural reason to take him out. Only question is for whom?

I am removing Witry and Buya Turay this week, considering Witry is injured and they have a tough run of fixtures in the short run. Hacken look good to me, I may get a defender from them.

As for the forward spot, I am interested in Diouf. Does anyone know if he is nailed or not? They have excellent fixtures and his stats do not look so bad. Nygren's fixtures are awful, so I am not so keen on him. The last candidate is Haglund but he only has what, three shots in three weeks?

      1. Bob Sacamano
        • 5 Years

Removing Witry is probably wise, but I don't see the point of taking Buya out? He's a proven goalscorer in form and have scored in every game so far. They have a few tricky games coming, but that's mainly a problem for theire defensive assets. They'll still score goals even if they're facing a good team.

Kalmar is not a good side, and Diouf is not a good player. He scored ONE goal in over 2000 minutes last season, and I dont think theire fixtures are particulary good eighter.

I wouldn't put too much stock in fixtures right now, many unknowns still and there are very few "easy and predictable" games in Allsvenskan. I think Diouf isn't the most solid of strikers but hey, if you believe in him then I'm not going to try to talk you out of it 😉

Both Nygren and Haglund seem like better options, as does Larsson and Nnamani in my opinion.

Yeah, I somehow ignored Larsson last night before writing my comment. He looks best among the options in my opinion, despite the understandable hype around Nygren. My other move was Witry to Ekpolo. I could have saved a few bucks by going Andersson, though.

      Witry to which östersunds defender?

Pettersson 6.0m - on penalties, commanding defender raking in defending bonus points

Isherwood 4.7m - solid defender, threatening in the air, prone to a yellow card

Sonko Sundberg 5.5m - full back, more attacking potential - finally getting minutes.

Isherwood is already on 2 yellows, another one and he's suspended. That's what made me reconcider and get a Sundsvall defender instead.

Nice call. I had overlooked Sundsvall, but look at those fixtures! As you mention, Isherwood 3rd yellow would not only make himself look less appealing, but the whole backline of Ostersunds.

Time to assess the Sundsvall options!
