Scoutcast Episode 294 – Endgame

“We’re in the Endgame now.”

With just one round of fixtures left of the season the Scoutcast team attempt to wrap up all of the outstanding talking points ahead of Gameweek 38.

Andy, David and Az began by overcoming the frustrating nature of Gameweek 37 in order to get truly excited about the final day of the campaign.

Not surprisingly, the key player to be discussed was Son Heung-min, whose red card against Bournemouth ruled him out of Gameweek 38.

We looked at all the potential replacements and examined all the implications of moving him on for a cheaper midfield options.

That included our thoughts on Manchester United and Southampton assets after poor performances in Gameweek 37.

Next up was a debate on what Wolves can bring to Liverpool in Gameweek 38, especially with so many managers either double or tripled-up on them.

In the aftermath of the Reds’ incredible Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona, we also looked at what we thought Jurgen Klopp’s men are capable of in their Premier League finale.

Also, an injury to Andrew Robertson on Tuesday night prompted discussion about what to do with the left-back in Gameweek 38.

Finally, Andy, David and Az tackled some last day of the season dilemmas from managers wondering what tactics to employ to ensure the highest possible finish.

This episode of the Scoutcast can be accessed on our YouTube channel or embedded in the article below.

Once again, we apologise that we are still unable to publish it in a podcast form and will endeavour to rectify this for the 2019/20 season.

You're somewhere between the dullard or maverick...

How many points would you have from your squad if you maintained your GW1 squad or that of your first WC?

    For my XV from
    First GW 1995
    First WC (GW9) 2312

Actual points 2222 (incl -72 in hits through season)

On one hand way too many hits, on other I've improved my squad sufficiently and/or used captain/chips fairly effectively.

Messi is still the best for me but he got rattled last night like ive never seen
before in his career (it happened in the second leg to) .people talk about his chronic shyness and last night he just disconnected himself from that game and his team mates. he doesn't have that 'grab your players by the scuff of the neck' trait that I think ronny has, even diego and Zidane. Gerrard had it in spades. with messi his teammates are relying on his sheer technical brilliance with a football to lead them but there are times when you need something with that. some fight, get the players in the huddle, thrown your hands at the crowd to get them going (Fabinho did it from minute one) . he had an off night.it happens. and theres other players that should have stepped up but then how can you say anything to messi? this is the bind they are in and its why it has to be him to lead. but just shaking your head and staring at the ground in a sulk isnt going to do it when things aren't going your way.

It was like the Messi we see with Argentina last night... all players have bad games though

      1. boc610
        • 12 Years
        4 years, 10 months ago

players can have poor games and actually still get team mates to do something . i don't think he was even that bad last night when he had the ball but he just drifted out of the match. I think he hid when the ging got tough and thats something you'd never associate with some of the greats but it has been levelled at him, especially with the national side.

after winny got the third he just looked completely lost . if he was relaxing then that should have snapped him out of it (and lets be honest he should have snapped it after the first early goal. they all should have)

Chelsea’s transfer ban upheld apparently... surely Haz goes nowhere until it’s lifted?

I don’t think they’d consider Pulisic a good enough like for like & if they let hazard leave they are in diffs next season

Ultimately if Chelsea are banned from signing a replacement it may force their hand to keep him (against his will, but per the contract he signed) for another 12 months

I've had some lucky breaks this season and somehow find myself with a rather high rank. I'd like to keep it that way with one week left ....but who to captain ?

Am bringing in Wilson / Arnie or Mitro with this week's FT to have this lot:

    Loris
    TAA / Laporte / Valery
    Salah / Haz / Bilva / Mane
Kun / Long / Wilson etc

I guess Salah and Kun will dominate the top 10k ........ which makes sticking to one of them the least risky (to my OR) option??

Thats a great team for this week.
Im going Salah if hes fit. Redmond or Siggy if hes out.
The only reason im not going Kun is my rival has him and need to go different to him.
its a toss up between Aguero and Salah imho

      Very slim.

However, I did gain 45/50 points on most of my rivals last week alone, so I wouldn’t say 67 is impossible. You need to captain and ultimate punt and hope he gets 15(x2) minimum and some other decent hauls. I’d go as far as saying sell the most expensive players your rival has and replace them with ultimate punts to be as different as possible.

    An Everton perspective:
Lying in hospital lat night, no sound on the TV and streaming the sound via my computer. Watching 2.5 minute sound delay, watching a team I have no right to support. WELL DONE KLOPP, POOL and the Premiership for coming up trumps. I am up for an early recovery.
It would have been a travesty if Pool were empty handed this year.
Hard dork, Teamwork, Education, common sense, tenacity, togetherness, unbelievable fitness, strength in depth and a spot of skill on the side made me a proud scouser!!!!!!!!!!!
