The FPL players involved at the European Under-21 Championship

The 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship kicks off today, with several Premier League players set to be involved in the tournament.

Much like the Copa America, Africa Cup of Nations and CONCACAF Gold Cup, which also take place this summer, the competition could have repercussions for the new Fantasy Premier League campaign.

The European Under-21 Championship runs from June 16-30, finishing before any of the other tournaments listed above.

That leaves almost six weeks before the start of the new Premier League season, so even if pre-season regimes are subsequently affected, there would still seem a decent chance of the players being somewhere approaching full match-fitness by the weekend of August 10-11.

Given that there are only 12 nations taking part, even a run to the final would mean that a country only has to face five matches in total – two fewer than the four semi-finalists at the 2018 World Cup had to endure.

Aside from all the academy products who have yet to break through at senior level for their respective clubs, we’ll be seeing the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Phil Foden and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in action at the European Under 21 Championship.

Leicester City have five players involved, four of whom are established Premier League names.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the various international tournaments taking place over the summer, documenting the minutes played and any injuries picked up by the FPL assets involved.

The Premier League players who have been selected for their countries at the European Under 21 Championship are as follows (all are representing England unless otherwise stated):

Arsenal

  • Matteo Guendouzi (France)
  • Reiss Nelson

Bournemouth

  • Lloyd Kelly
  • Dominic Solanke

If FPL granted you three wishes for the game in 2019/20 season - what would you want? A few simple-ish changes I think would benefit the game:

    1. Save the striker

The (premium) striker seems to be on life support from an FPL perspective - it looks to be difficult for them to score over 220 points, let alone the 260/270/280 that mids seem to be capable of. Kane 2 seasons ago - 31 attacking returns yet only 217 points - the season before that he got 36 attacking returns yet only 224 points... Auba & Kun both laboured to clear 200 points this year... it says a lot about how difficult it is for a striker to hit 250 points these days imo, let alone 270/280

Possible solutions? Baps. There needs to be a way to rebalance baps away from refs & mids & towards strikers - that closes the gap nicely, for every 1 bonus point taken away from a mid/def & given to a striker it’s 2 points re-balanced.

Pricing could also be used - premium strikers seem to be lumbered with almost excessively high price tags in some cases - maybe a bit of both - kinder pricing and a less punitive baps system. I’d prefer either of these to the other solution which is reclassifying wide forwards who also sometimes spend time up front to be strikers (which I really hope they don’t do for the likes of Salah, Sterling, Richarlison etc)

    2. Free Transfer Stockpiling

Allow us to save more FT’s - a simple but profound change to benefit hardcore and casual fans alike. Can you imagine a ghost manager logging in after 6 weeks to find 3 or 4 FT’s instead of 2? They’d instantly have more skin in the game. Similarly a dedicated manager could plan for a lot more sweeping squad changes by abstaining from the transfer button for an extra week or two.

    3. Price Transparency & an extra wish

For the love of god tell us how weekly price changes are calculated - share the info/algo and be transparent - this creates a level playing field and a fairer game without the randomness.

    4. Abolish Chips

Ok four wishes - This may not be popular - but I’d use the extra wish to disband the chips (aside from the WC). I just find them gimmicky and that they de-emphasise the pure management aspect of the game in favour of introducing more single gameweek variance/luck. I appreciate you can plan & use them in different ways (DGW’s etc) but i don’t think they’ve improved the game imho in the 3 or 4 seasons since they’ve been introduced

      1.Lower prices yes
      2.Yes
      3.Yes
      4.Yes

PS.Refs should take baps if they award 2 and more pens.

Good suggestions. I would especially like the price transparency but I would also like bank balances and transfers made to be hidden to stop these sites that are predicting people’s transfers.

      Agreed on all fronts.

How about banning chips in BGW’s and DGW’s in order to bring greater variance to results?

Yes, I think ban the Triple captain and Bench boost from DGWs, it has become very formulaic. Make people pick a week. I think the chips add something for most players and they are going to consider the majority, even if it introduces luck a bit. In any case, it is hard to completely remove luck from the game.

Far too many strikers are classed as midfielders. I don't know whether reclassifying them would mean that the midfield picks then become obvious from what is left. That's the only justification for not reclassifying all of them. But at a minimum, if the player sometimes plays as the central striker (e.g. Salah) they should be a striker.

They won't do transfer stockpiling because they want the casuals logging in every week, it drives advertising revenue.

Only being able to use chips in SGWs would make the results even more random and luck based - not ideal imo.

2 points for a key contribution, 3 points for an opta defined assist.

It would remove all the subjectivity and bias from awarding assists.

        Yes. Yes. Yes.
Though there would need to be just as strict definitions of KC's. Nothing (much) worse than a goal awarded with no assist awarded.

Just go off the opta definition.

Let a neutral 3rd party like opta (who by the way are the experts in this) decide in complete isolation to official FPL.

I know this will never happen but my absolute dream scenario is being able to make my transfers after we get the team sheets, then I can use my actual football knowledge to decide which player/team might do well Vs who they're facing without worrying about whether he's been dropped or not. I know this would take away from the speculation and injury watch or baby watch, and some would argue that figuring out whether a player is playing is using football knowledge but it just annoys me because it's just almost purely a guess (except for in rare circumstances) and for me it stops me getting players I want and playing more risky. The risk shouldn't be in whether a player is starting or not, the risk should be in going with a non template player but being certain he's at least starting!

Agree with the poster above, any last touch should just = assist unless there's two clear defender touches after the final assist touch. Too subjective right now, gets people's conspiracy hats on when a high owned player seems to get an assist for just looking at the ball

I’ve argued this before as there is no skill in second guessing lineups - the skill comes in choosing correctly thereafter.

For this reason I wish all teamsheets were out on Friday for every team - still a level playing field between all sides.

Not fair on players in other time zones or anyone actually who isn’t able to log in and tinker between the team sheets being announced and the match starting. Will turn millions of players off as they are fighting with one hand tied behind their back.

          1. Award double points for both captain and vice captain to reduce captain variance. I originally wanted to say "remove captaincy" but I think giving double points to both is a more exciting solution for casuals.

          2. Increase player prices across the board. This is somewhat related to your "save the striker" wish. I think FPL are too scared to price up defenders and value midfielders. I believe the premium strikers are priced fine, as they do have quite a bit of ownership every season even at their high price. But with increased information sharing across the community, its becoming so obvious that certain player types like premium attacking defenders are underpriced and offer too much value. Players like Robbo, TAA, Laporte etc should cost around 8.0 and would still have large ownerships. Similarily defenders in the bracket below like Digne should cost at least 6.0. This would help break up the template.

          3. Small wish about BPS. Remove negative bps for yellow cards as they are already punished with -1 point loss in the game. And reduce +bps for penalty saves as they are already rewarded handsomely in game. Its a bit of a joke when a gk who concedes two goals in a 1-2 loss gets 3 bps because of a penalty save.

          3) Entirely agreed and if not full transparency, at least some so that we will know that Salah will not fall in price even after massive sales. At leat, think what would be the damage if player price rises/falls would be announced before they occur?!

          4) Disagreed but in a counter way, why don't we have two of each chip, just like the WC? I hate to feel obliged to use the BB and TC on DGWs. Mathematically, you can't fight that idea. So why not have each chip twice, one until the New Year, just like the WC, so that we are forced to find a BB and TC on a single GW too!

My objection to the chips is more around their ''gimmicky'' (for want of a better word) nature - maybe it comes from years of playing the game pre-chips - but for me the game is about fantasy football management

For me that's ultimately picking and choosing a set of players based on how you think they will perform versus the scoring system - you can never remove the element of luck of course, and that is also what makes the game fun at times and exasperating at other - the sheer amount of variance that can creep into a one off gameweek is off the charts

But pre-chips the game was pure (imo) in the sense that your OR at the end of the year is largely based on your ability to predict things over a 38 gameweek season... not on one particularly important gameweek where you've played your TC, or another GW where you've played your BB etc

Why not have a chip that multiplies your goalkeepers score by the age of the spectator sitting in row H seat 39 for example? Or a chip that doubles your points if at any point in the game a pigeon has shat in the centre circle?

For me, when the chips started, it shifted the emphasis away from the consistent FPL management and towards luck - i.e. how you do in your BB / TC / FH have massive bearings on your OR (can be 80+ points and more in some cases - that's literally tens of thousands of OR placings). There is of course still a huge emphasis on FPL management, but i personally don't feel they've improved the game at all & would like to see them abolished.... but may not be a popular opinion 🙂

Whilst I disagree with the reasonability of the examples in your penultimate paragraph, I hear you. First, thank you very much for so elaborately responding; I think this is when I love this forum most, when someone really takes the effort to listen and explain. Secondly, in hindsight, I may now tend to agree with you. And perhaps you have hit it on the nail; without chips, I played this game for 2 or at most 3 years (at FPL, at uefa.com much longer) so for me chips came somewhat quickly and tended to be fun. Yet, what you say about the luck factor certainly is true. Especially the TC. But to carry the argument fuırther, does the BB or FH really carry such element of luck? Are they not fun factors in a strategic way (especially the FH) making them part of long term planning?

              1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
                • 14 Years

I absolutely agree that chips require thought, preparation, planning, strategy and all that good stuff - but my bugbear is really that they are not only (here's that word again) a gimmick, but they are too heavily weighted towards a single gameweek, rather than a season

Single gameweeks are absolute murder when it comes to trying to make predictions - it's why bookies make fortunes and the majority of punters lose more than they win.... and Gimmicks are what they say on the tin, a trick or device intended to attract pubilicity, attention, or trade

And they are now crucial to achieving a high OR - so for me it has kind of divorced the ''pure'' season-long FPL management aspect from an end of season OR.

Maybe its like the lucky general analogy, I think the chips have increased the number of ''lucky generals'' out there compared to pre-chips 🙂 Note: this is NOT the same as saying anyone with a decent OR is now just lucky!!! But I think it has increased the luck element of the game

(BTW I totally agree on your point about the good side of FFS - it's also a highlight for me when someone carefully researches and presents an opinion on this game that we all love & hate and then is open to other perspectives 🙂 )

Once again, you convince me for BB, i.e. the randomness of a single GW BB, but the FH I would insist is a great chip, not because of its single GW potential though, but because it changes the overall planning of the preceding and subsequent GWs. Nevertheless, the purer the game the better and I am with you on the Essentials you feel about the game...

Yeah I'm honestly not a fan of the FH either - i think people should have to plan & navigate the blanks & doubles using their management ability, their FT's & choosing whether or not to take points hits...

But I am a ''purist'' (if such a thing exists) and I realise not everyone will share that opinion - it would be nice i think though if FPL were to take on board some of these suggestions from the fans that play the game as there are some good ideas & perspectives on FFS in general

I think stockpiling free transfers would add that extra dimension & being a bit of freshness without straying from the original spirit of the game in the same way that I feel FH, TC & BB have strayed

How many? Good question & I'd be open to any increase over 2, maybe capped at 4 or 5

Agreed that gimmicky chips are the wrong way forward. However I think that getting rid of chips altogether will make it harder for those who play the game more to do well.

For me last season was defined by the availability of good FPL information, readily available online for free. This made it more and more difficult to stay "ahead of the template", and what would normally be a good score in a GW often resulted in a red arrow (or "grey" in some cases...).

Why not give 2 full sets of the same sensible chips? WC, BB, FH. More decisions means more decision making, and hopefully the best decision makers get the best OR at the end of the season.

I think each FT is ultimately like a ''chip'' in & of itself in the sense that it lets you adjust your team for free... the captaincy is also like a chip in the sense that it doubles the score of someone you choose each week... the wildcard I am fine with, and the second wildcard as well - both are good i think...

But I feel it should stop there - that's 38 FT's + 38 Captaincies + 2 WC's - a lot of chips & a lot of decisions in addition to taking points hits... when you add in BB, FH & TC it's just gone too far imo - and adding in two sets of them would be a step in the wrong direction imo, it would be worse

I get what you are saying with ''More decisions means more decision making, and hopefully the best decision makers get the best OR at the end of the season.'' but I can't say I agree unfortunately...

I'll again refer to the analogy of the fictional chips pointed out above - if they added those chips, that would be more decisions, and ultimately the people who make the best decisions on the spectator in row h seat 39's age will be the most well rewarded from an OR perspective - but it's not in alignment with the original spirit of the game, i feel the same way about TC, BB & FH.

Then your point on stockpiling FT's makes more sense - it would allow more flexibility in using those "chips". Perhaps the issue is that BB FH and TC all relate to one GW, hence the issue of luck.

Youre saying the chips lean more towards luck and take away emphasis of management, then surely Captain Points is a far worse example of this?

No not at all, I think its probably detailed elsewhere in this thread somewhere if you read through it but I don’t mind captaincy as it’s a regular feature of the game - there are 38 weeks out of 38 in which you have to select a captain - there is one week out of 38 where you play a B.B., FH etc

(And no I don’t think giving us 38 bench boosts or free hits would improve the game lol)

Vice captaincy - I’d gladly see it scrapped though

The captaincy chip maybe available 38 out 38 gwks but it is the element of luck rather than skill that determines your week, 38 times out of 38. I just don’t see how you can view BB or triple captaincy any differently. I hated the captaincy chip when I switched to this FF game, because of this very reason you gave about management skill over luck.

...I’m a few years in and I accept it now but the chips, if you don’t prep properly can make or break your season, so I kinda like them for that, as you have to think about it well in advance. With captaincy, you could have a well structured team and still get beaten by a rival who forgot to change their captaincy pick from the week before! I don’t see much skill in that

Yeah, I totally agree that chips require thought, preparation, planning, strategy and all that good stuff as pointed out above - but my bugbear is really that they are not only (here's that word again) a gimmick, but they are too heavily weighted towards a single gameweek, rather than a season

Gimmicks are what they say on the tin, a trick or device intended to attract pubilicity, attention, or trade - and Single gameweeks are absolute murder when it comes to trying to make predictions - it's why bookies make fortunes and the majority of punters lose more than they win.... and it’s also why having only one captaincy would be a bad idea imo... instead we have 38....

Equally the chips are are now pretty crucial to achieving a high OR - so for me it has kind of divorced the ''pure'' season-long FPL management aspect from an end of season OR.

Maybe its like the lucky general analogy, I think the chips have increased the number of ''lucky generals'' out there compared to pre-chips

*Note: this is NOT the same as saying anyone with a decent OR is now just lucky!!! 🙂

But I think it has increased the luck element of the game (If we consider a FT & a weekly captaincy to be a “chip” in their own right - That’s 38 FT's + 38 Captaincies + 2 WC's - a lot of chips & a lot of decisions in addition to taking points hits... when you add in BB, FH & TC it's just gone too far imo) and in my own opinion they haven’t improved the game since they’ve been introduced - but I acknowledge it may not be a popular opinion.

I don’t disagree with you on that, good points but I’m still of the opinion that captain points are similar so if we get rid of chips, we should get rid of captaincy points. But you’re right, people love the gambling aspect so captaincy should be the one that stays. However from a purely management perspective I would prefer it was based on points with no luck element at all

What you are saying is 100% logical and consistent - and in that sense you're probably even more of an FPL ''purist'' (if such a thing exists lol) than Myself 🙂

And if it was an all or nothing choice - i.e. either keep all of FH, BB, TC & captaincy or lose all of FH, BB, TC and captaincy - I'd be with you and agree on losing them all.

I think you can never remove the element of luck of course, and that is also what makes the game fun at times and exasperating at other - the sheer amount of variance that can creep into a one off gameweek is off the charts - and nowhere is that more evident than with the captaincy... but for me the fact that its there for 38 weeks goes along way towards ''smoothing'' some of that variance and gives plenty of opportunity for good decision making to rise to the top over time (vs. for example the BB or TC which is influenced by luck to a much larger degree than the season-long cumulative results of your captaincy choices)

But my own personal idea of FPL nirvana however would be to keep the captaincy & lose the FH, BB & TC chips - whilst also doing the other couple of changes in the OP... I wonder will be ever be able to get FPL to take on board any of these wishes - stranger things have happened 🙂

          2) this is very debatable. Do you not think this would encourage randomness in another way? Would there not be more ghost teams, monthly playing mini-WC's, and then aiming to tower up the weekly hard-workers?

I don't think allowing FT's be banked ''would encourage more randomness in another way''

At the end of the day, every manager gets 38 FT's in a season yet not every manager can use 38 FT's in a season under the current setup

I think for active managers - it would really improve things in allows managers to have the choice of trading shorter term for longer term gain if they wish, or act as a safety net if a spate of unexpected injuries/suspensions etc occur, and also would encourage less active managers to participate more as they would have a larger bank of FT's to use after a period of abscence

I don't see how allowing a bigger bank of those 38 FT's would deteriorate the game in any way tbh, but it is an opinion i suppose 🙂

I’m afraid that reclassifying people as forwards is the only way to save the striker bracket.

          Do Liverpool & City play a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3?

Salah, Sterling et all are actually forwards as much fun as it is having them as mids

          1. Do away with baps and award pts for on field contributions only. When a player scores a brace he gets 2 extra pts and 3 extra pts for a hat-trick. I've lost count of the times a FWD has hauled but still struggled to dominate the baps because the defenders got a c/s and an attacking contribution.

          2. I agree but no more hits then if we get to stockpile FTs.

          3. Agree. FPL should have a page like FFFix and fplstats on their site/app.

          4. Agree. I'd even get rid of the WC (if we can stockpile FTs). Games should then be moved around to limit BGWs and DGWs.

          1. reduced points for autosubs - if you didnt choose them to start you shouldnt benefit from their full haul

          2. max 2 players from each team. that should test managers and perhaps break up the template a little

          3. all chips available in both halves of the season (like wc is)

Fix penalty points. All players should get 4 points and 12 BPS for scoring a penalty, even defenders. All players should get 2 points and 12 BPS for winning a penalty, but this should not be given to players that take their own penalty. Missing a penalty should be -2 points and -12 BPS. If you miss a penalty you won yourself, you should get 0 points and 0 BPS.

          1. BPS - definitely needs to be addressed, sometimes it’s just baffling who gets the points.

          2. Chips - I like the chips but everyone tends to follow a similar strategy now and keep them until the end of the season. FPL could do with mixing it up a bit, either changing chips or making them be used in phases.

          3. Price changes - I’d like to see quicker movement of prices and also to remove the price freeze following a suspension. A bit more transparency on how prices are calculated too would be good.

          4. Would like a league for the team you started the season with - no transfers, no captains.

          5. 2 players from each team to make squads less template.

I personally wouldn't get too hung up on ''more volatility'' (which I presume means more price rises & falls?)

I think the 0.3 cap acts as a guardrail against excessive quantities of rises/falls in the vast majority of cases

My gripe is more on the inconsistency & randomness on certain price changes - Salah is one example pointed out above - the price change information is both key to planning, and impactful on managers budgets (and therefore eventually their teams performance in some cases) and - crucially - it exists... it's just not publicly available

I really struggle to see the disadvantages of sharing the info and being transparent - and it would help FPL managers plan more effectively imo

How a manager wishes to use it is their own personal choice - a lot, a little, or not at all - but at least give people that choice by making it available imo

With midfielders more attacking than ever, and with them also getting an extra point for clean sheets, forwards are at a huge disadvantage that the extra BPS for a goal simply isn’t making up. At this point, they should just award five points for all goals by attackers (both mids and forwards) to even things out.

Striker points: Each new season's prices reflect the previous points, no action needed, mids will be higher as it is, forwards lower...
Free transfers: Yeah, being able to carry forward two would refresh the game and give us something new to think about.
Price transparency: Nah, man up, it's a gambling game, there has to be unknowns or it wouldn't work.
Abolish chips: See free transfers, don't abolish the chips change them and give us new strategies to think about.

''Striker points: Each new season's prices reflect the previous points, no action needed, mids will be higher as it is, forwards lower...''

I don't believe this is true at all - Look at this season's flagship players for example:

            Forwards: Kane, Kun, Auba, Kaku
            Midfielders: Raz, Haz, Mo, Mane

Strikers 2017/18 performance vs. 2018/19 price:
            - Kane 217 points / 12.5m
            - Kun 169 points / 11.0m
            - Auba 87 points / 11.0m
            - Kaku 162 points / 11.0m

Mids 2017/18 performance vs. 2018/19 price:
            - Mo - 303 points / 13.0m
            - Raz - 229 points / 11.0m
            - Haz - 173 points / 10.5m
            - Mane - 147 points / 9.5m

Do you feel their ''new season prices reflect the previous seasons points?''

            13.0 for a 300 point midfielder & 12.5 for a 210 point striker?

            10.5 for a 170 point midfielder and 11.0 for a 160 point striker?

I realise there are many buts - But Kun missed lots of games, But Auba only played half a season, But Kaku had just been bought for €80m, but, but, but etc

However, I do believe if you do the calcs on PP90 or PPA & they'll still show that strikers are being killed by the pricing because they're not scoring enough points... they could score more points if they got more baps hence original suggestion - its not perfect, but an improvement imo

Judging & anticipating this is what should separate a good manager from the pack imo - not whether you've also guessed the correct lottery numbers in addition to predicting how the players will perform

          1. What would improve the game the most for me: the same scoring as Allsvenskan Fantasy where players instantly score points when they hit a threshold for actions like crosses, tackles, blocks, key passes - the same way a FPL goalkeepers currently score points every 3 saves. Would take away the horrible waiting for undeserved BPS adjustments and make more players like defensive midfielders and strikers who run the line but aren't clinical viable picks. For those who haven't played it it's halfway between FPL and Sky FF.

          2. Sorry but no chips :'( I'd like to stick with 2 wildcards per season though. The strategies, especially in FPL, are so boring now.

          3. Fewer points for penalty saves (or at least fewer BPS, especially if they don't have a bearing on the result).

          4. The most realistic and easiest to implement: go back through the most contentious decisions last season and CLARIFY THE RULES. I don't want any more Sanchez assists for a deflected pass that results in a handball that wins a free kick or no Redmond assist despite the fact his dribble towards the goal forced Digne to put it into his own net - and if they do happen, I want to be able to say "at least it's clearly in the rules"

I think I agree with all of these! Very sensible suggestions.

For me the biggest thing is that BAPS are broken. I'm not even talking about rebalancing them to bring premium forwards back into the equation (although this is important). I'm talking about the awarding of BAPS to players who are already receiving points for those actions.

They are BONUS points - they are there in part to help bring players who are otherwise not scoring points in any of the main categories to be recognised in the scoring system. BAPS should ONLY be awarded for things that don't otherwise score FPL points, and minus BAPS should ONLY be awarded for things that don't lose that player FPL points. The BAPS system should also avoid rewarding players twice for their achievements.

A few examples of things that should be rebalanced are as follows (using the term "BAPS" as shorthand for points scored in the bonus points system):

          - Remove BAPS for winning goals. A goal should be a goal. Why should it count more towards BAPS if it's the winner?

          - For that matter: remove goal BAPS. If shots on target count towards BAPS, and goals score their own points, why should a player get credits towards extra points if the ball ends up in the back of the net? We have already been rewarded with 4,5 etc. points for that outcome.

          - Remove assist BAPS: We already have points in the bonus system for key passes. A key pass leading to a big chance created should always score the same. Why should the player be penalised if the nugget he passes to fluffs the easy chance he has had put on a plate for him? Our man has already lost out by his assist being wasted. The bonus system is meant to reward players for their performances regardless of the extent to which their teammates

          - Remove YC and RC, OG and missed pen minus BAPS

I'm not sure about save BAPS. Keepers do get points for these, but it's only one for every three saves made, so it's not a given that they will get points even if they do make saves. Keepers need to be competitive with the other players in the game so maybe save BAPS should be retained.

          Yes
Yes, Yes, Yes - at the very least give us more control over the chips (i.e. you can pick 4 from a pool of 6-8 which would really mix it up) or the other direction - less control - force us to use say 2 chips first half and 2 second

I always have one suggestion to reward goalkeepers.

If they save a big chance, make it counted as 2 saves.

it works like saving penalty, if big chance missed because the striker shoots it wide/off target, don't reward the GK with that.

Nice post, i agree with your suggestions. The last 2 are particular bugbear's of mine. if there's nothing to hide i see no reason why there can't be a column/page on the official game to track the players progress towards a rise or fall. As for the chips, i hate them too. Most just use them all at the same time now, resulting in ruining what were and could still be the most exciting weeks of the season . It's resulting in eveyone having the same BGW team, same FH team, same DGW team, same 2nd WC,same BB team . It's like Formula 1 with the safety car out for those weeks, virtually impossible to make gains. Such a shame, there's no need for them, they're just a gimmicky annoyance.

Surely the problem with forwards is wider than FPL. Pep has asked Aguero to do more than just goal poach & become more involved in the game. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/nov/03/the-question-what-is-centre-forward
The way the game has gone most teams dont want to play with 2 strikers. If Arsenal played with 2 centre forwards, Auba and Laca would both be gold in FPL imo. Instead, Emery chops and changes because he only seems to want 1 centre forward,

Radically, player prices could be linked to heat maps from the previous season.

Just imagine how cheap Sturridge would be 🙂

Pakistan have got through 20 overs so this will constitute a match.

Looks like heavy rain is coming in the next half an hour so DLS may come into play.

I have gone England bowler heavy for a while (being contrarian). It has worked okay because I have got most of the wickets and England keep bowling out sides.

I am taking out my Australia batsmen and replacing them with West Indies batsmen. Will captain an Indian batsmen (probably Kohli)

PAK vs IND: Rain expected in the afternoon. Chance of overs being lost.
WI vs BAN: Low chance of rain. Full match expected to be completed.
ENG vs AFG: Low chance of rain. Full match expected to be completed.
NZ vs SA: High chance of rain. Potential to be washed out.

United should just stop dealing with any player represented by Mino Raiola like Pep has done. Hes a scumbag only interested in moving his players around to get repeated transfer cuts for his own bank account.

Did Pep really do that? Fair play to him. I don't get why players go with agents like that. Surely any decent agent could broker a good contact if you're a top player, but if he's taking 30 million for himself that's money they could have had in the form of a signing on fee etc. What's in it for the player?

Its hard to know if its true of course as with all news, but it was widely reported regarding De Ligt that one of the reasons City arent that keen on him is the fact that hes represented by Raiola. Raiola has said a lot of crap about Pep publicly so it could also be a personal grudge rather than a pure professional decision.

Assuming that City and pool will dominate the league again and not having more than 2-3 tough games in the whole season I am thinking of keeping , the whole year, 3 players from each team + 2 bench players + 2 goalies.

So 10 out of 15 players granted.

Then I can play around with the rest and not taking lots of hits...early thoughts..

good on paper...but 3 City and 3 Pool probably means not a lot of wiggle room money wise for the rest of your squad. If one of any other of the big hitters hits form you won't be able to get him in, without sacrifing one of your City/Pool assets

Your third City would almost certainly need to be Bilva or Ederson assuming you go Laporte and Sterling - don’t see the budget stretching to Kun. Are they the best choices in those slots?

I’m not really into this. I doubt 3 City 3 Liverpool were optimal through last season when both teams were dominant. Going this way you’d have missed out on Alonso Son Pogba Rashford Richarlison etc when they were red hot.

End of season averages only tell part of the story. It feels like a hugely limiting way to play.

          Good work by Chelsea there.

They were probably going to get rid of him anyway and have to pay him off, but now they get rid of him and get paid £5m to do so.

Kind of business Daniel Levy would be proud of.

Yes I'm happy. Chelsea did well despite Sarri, not because of him.

Chelsea will regret - Sarri did a superb job imo - but then again they got compo $ and if he didn't want to stay, he didn't want to stay - but make no mistake - Sarri is a fantastic football manager

A more wretched hive of scum and villany you will not find than chelsea’s dressing room - that group has forced out many’s a manger - but Sarri was too strong for them to bully him - Weaker managers would have crumbled when that dressing room turned - but he showed his strength of character by wrestling back control and gong on to finish above every team in the league bar a financially doped Man City and the best Liverpool team in nearly 30 years, in his first season in a new country without even really having a firm grasp on the language yet. If he was English he'd have been knighted by now for achievements in football

To get third and win the EL after having no preseason and being forced to sell Courtois & not allowed a striker whilst adapting to a new and difficult league - it’s not difficult to see that the guy was something special

I’d put him joint third along with Nuno in the manager of the season awards after Pep & Klopp (alightly ahead of Poch overall) - so any criticism of him by extension needs to be increased for every one of the other 15 managers in the league below him

a manager that doesn't play Kante in his natural position cant be classed a 'fantastic football manager' - and Jorginho got figured out quickly and his stubbornness refused to change. Higuaín as a signing (not sure if this was just him, but seemed like it)

            1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

Honestly, I find your logic a bit disconcerting - a manager is judged not by their mistakes, but on the sum of their mistakes and successes.

There isn’t a manager in world football now, or in the past, who hasn’t made a mistake, and equally there aren’t many managers who delivered what Sarri did this season.

Not starting Kante as a DM, whilst I didn’t agree with it, was an amazing feat of testicular fortitude. The fact that he then went on to deliver a third place finish (I.e. the absolute maximum any manager could delivered with Chelsea this season), and a EL win is not something to be wildly critical of imo.

Add in the fact that he was new to the PL, and it becomes more impressive. He spent a grand total of 11 months in the job, with a truncated preseason, and by whatever metric you measure him (apart from did he play a DM as a DM - which to me is largely irrelevant in the big picture) he overachieved imo...

It’s impossible to say for sure - but had he stayed for the 3/4/5 years it takes a manager to properly bed into and put their stamp on a club, he would have collected further achievements (and possibly made further mistakes, as all managers do) - more than what the vast majority of managers in world football would imo

I find the criticism of his results very strange

60 mil price tag probably doesn't match his current ability but it's West Ham's way of saying they have no intention of selling. He'll be a key part of their team in years to come so very reluctant to let him go.

Thomas Munier - Koulibaly - Lindelof - Shaw
        Rabiot - Mctominay
Daniel James - lingard - Martial
        Rashford

        How United should line up?

Still looks horrible. What an absolutely uninspiring front line... Lingard should retire.

          Should? No

I would settle for something like this

          Oblak

          Wanbisakka - Koulilaliby - Lindelof - Shaw

          Rabiot - Tielemans

          Sancho - PogBOOM - Griezman

          Dybala

Would settle for Icardi rather than Dybala. Would prefer upgrades to Shaw and Lindelof but think it’s unrealistic we upgrade the whole team in one summer and they are just about OK

Any chance of affording something like this?

        Fab
        Laporte Luiz TAA Digne
        Sterling Mane Siggy Miliv
        Jimenez King

In my opinion yes but dont think that Jimenez after imminent price rise will be good value.

FFFix say 5.5m and I think that is right. Everton were meh atb in the 1st two thirds of the season and Digne got some -1's which kept his pts down

evertons first CS came in gw7. so maby not worth the spot early on. But 4 goals in first season is decent.

Reasonably I think. But it'll be touch and go with no bench.

Mané and Jimenez probably going to get huge hikes and can see Siggy being 9.0...

Dumb move from Chelsea. They wont even get top 6 this season. Sarri is a better manager than anyone they can get.

You obviously haven't seen Chelsea games this season. It's very easy to say that they won't get top 6 when their star player has gone and they have a transfer embargo. It's not rocket science to state that top managers won't go there until the transfer ban is lifted. Also he wanted to go - what's the point in trying to keep an Italian manager who wants to be at Juventus ?

Ive seen plenty of games. To finish 3rd and win the EL with that team, in his first season in a new league, was a great achievement. I know he wanted to leave but they should have kept him for another year so they could have done a real process of getting the next manager in instead of getting stuck with Lampard.

The 2-0 win against City in the league was one of the best tactical performances of any side all season. Good luck to Chelsea in finding a manager at the same level.

                  i'd agree with this.
Sarri took some while to adapt,he did arrive 3 weeks before the season (or did the PL take some while to adapt to him?)-he is a talented and experienced man who i believe chelsea will miss greatly in this challenging season.
Frank (the puppet) Lampard is no comparison if that is who they get left with, and i am not convinced they havent got someone else.

            It's on the record.
I lobbied the site to get Sterling on the Captain poll for weeks. I had no financial backing by state actors, but he eventually got added due to the fact he kept slapping them in the face with a wet fish.

Why there are not actual "FPL Points" available on the members tables???? That's the most important statistic after all!!!
