Fantasy Allsvenskan – Gameweek 21

Gameweek 20 review

Only ten more gameweeks to go and we’re swiftly moving on to the “end game” part of the proceedings. Gameweek 20 saw plenty of chips flying about, with 33.5% of the top 1k managers choosing to deploy a chip (credit @FantasyGuiden). Of the current top 1k managers 865 have played two captains, 797 have parked the bus, 778 the second wildcard and 485 the “Attack! Attack!”-chip. Hope it went well for all you fellow chip-players, I parked the bus and got a bunch of points from my three Djurgården defenders but both Victor Wernersson (5.7m) and Lars Krogh Gerson (6.4m) failed to deliver!

Other than that, it was a week where pretty much all the teams you’d expect to win did so, with one notable deviancy in AIK who lost 2-1 at home to Kalmar. With a particularly strange line-up from coach Rikard Norling, even the TV-companies switched the formation around as they didn’t believe what they saw when presented with the team sheets. Turns out they got it wrong and centre-back Felix Michel (4.9m) actually started up top along with Kolbeinn Sigthorsson (9.2m)! It seems the fit wasn’t great though, and he came away from it without registering a single shot, being substituted at half time for Henok Goitom (9.8m). Michel keeps popping up in positions further forward than the backline so that’s something to monitor for the run-in. Tarik Elyounoussi (9.1m) scored his first goal since GW11, set up by increasingly influential Nabil Bahoui (9.6m).

For Djurgården (who many turned to for their “Park the bus”-chips) there was plenty of delight as Marcus Danielsson (6.1m) delivered a 13-point haul, Aslak Fonn Witry (5.4m) an 11-pointer and Elliot Käck (5.9m) a solid 7 points. We also saw another attacking return from Fredrik Ulvestad (6.5m), another goal from Mohamed Buya Turay (9.7m) and new signing Curtis Edwards (8.7m) was very involved with one assist, one defensive bonus point and two offensive bonus.

For Hammarby who beat Sundsvall three goals to none, it was just another day at the office. Goals from Muamer Tankovic (9.5m) and Alexander Kačaniklić (8.9m) plus an own-goal from Juanju Ciércoles (5.7m) established the scoreline, with Richard Magyar (5.0M) and Nikola Djurjic (10.6m) chipping in with assists. The thing most worthy of note is Aron Jóhannsson (8.8m) starting the game ahead of Imad Khalili (6.9m), though he didn’t produce any attacking return this could very well be the start of him making that position his own, meaning Khalili owners need to pay close attention and perhaps already this week concede that the fun is over, before it even really started.

Malmö ran through Falkenberg 5-0 and other than Arnór Ingvi Traustason (8.4m) as well as Romain Gall (8.0m) both having great weeks, the big talking point was Anders Christiansen (10.1m) getting substituted off at half-time due to injury concerns. Any potential fears were alleviated on Thursday though, as he played the full 90 in Malmös European game against Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv FC. Rumours of a move abroad refuse to die down however so that’s something to keep an eye on.

Some gameweek 20 stats, courtesy of GoktugErce;

The three most popular captains in the top 1k were all Hammarby lads:

Muamer Tankovic; Captained by 71.3%, Effective Ownership of 149.0%, scored 9 points.

Nikola Djurdjic; Captained by 11.3%, Effective Ownership of 99.3%, scored 6 points.

Alexander Kačaniklić; Captained by 5.0%, Effective Ownership of 74.2%, scored 9 points.

Top 1k average points for the gameweek was 79.8, compared to the overall average of 53 points.

Gameweek 21 preview

There was plenty of action for Swedish teams in midweek as AIK and Malmö played in Europe yet again, while most other teams had a game in the Swedish cup. Few results from the cup stood out but it was particularly worth noting the minutes and results for the Hammarby players. Imad Khalili played the full 90 in the cup game against Luleå on Wednesday but had no goal-involvement as Hammarby wasted little energy in a pretty routine 3-1 win. Muamer Tankovic (9.5m) played 56 minutes and got a goal, Nikola Djurdjic (10.6m) played 72 minutes and got one goal and one assist, while Alexander Kačaniklić (8.9m) came on for Tankovic and scored a goal. Crucially Aron Jóhannsson was completely left out of the squad and both he and coach Stefan Billborn say that he will get more game-time going forward, further indicating Khalili’s days are numbered.

Malmö won their European qualifier against Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv FC 3-0 while AIK, who travelled to Glasgow for a game against Celtic, lost 2-0. Continued rotation in Allsvenskan looks likely for AIK, but Malmö might have to play their best 11 as they’re faced with league-leaders Djurgården in GW21. Hammarby travel to Falkenberg and will be big favourites yet again as the green and whites try to squeeze the most of a nice fixture run that’s about to end. Göteborg will face a Kalmar side who managed to shock AIK, will they be able to do it again? Unlikely in my opinion but we’ll see. Häcken have a nice fixture on paper as they travel to Eskilstuna, while Norrköping are tasked with dispatching of Helsingborg at home.

Players to target

Have you heard of this bloke called Robin Söder (7.9m)? It appears he’s in quite a decent form as mentioned in previous weeks, he’s now up to six goals and one assist in his last six games. Kalmar (H) followed by Sundsvall (a) should mean his prospects continue to look good.

Curtis Edwards has started life at Djurgården off with a bang, getting 17 points from two games. Owned by just 1.4%, the biggest issue is the fact that many will have at the very least a double up on Djurgården defenders, an then one of Jonathan Ring (7.9m), Mohamed Buya Turay or a third Djurgården defender, blocking Edwards from contention. The two next fixtures are also horrible (Malmö and AIK away) but depending on your own team’s specific situation and your faith in Djurgården to get something from those two games, he could be a good pick. It might just be two weeks too early though and you could be better of holding on until those games are in the rear-view mirror.

Aron Jóhannsson is another pick that is very team-dependant (probably wouldn’t get rid of Djurdjic for him unless in huge need of the cash) but he could come in big time over the next couple of weeks. He’s just 8.8m and only getting better, playing furthest forward in the team that’s topping the offensive charts. Khalili will continue to sneak some game-time off him but it seems that Jóhannsson is firmly the first choice once fully fit. Fixtures medium to long term aren’t great so it also depends on how invested you want to be in Hammarby attack for the run-in.

Captaincy thoughts

Can you really look past Muamer Tankovic, Alexander Kačaniklić or Nikola Djurdjic against Falkenberg? I think it might be difficult and I’ll continue to push for Kačaniklić as the best option, though he hasn’t necessarily shown it in the points the last couple of weeks he’s still been the most threatening player for Hammarby. Tankovic and Djurdjic remain top options with high EO but if you want to make up some ground, Kačaniklić could be your man.

Looking outside Hammarby both Robin Söder and Giorgi Kharaishvili (9.1m) seems solid picks for a “home banker”.

As always, best of luck to you this gameweek and if you want to chat about fantasy football either comment here below or hit me up @FF_Meltens on Twitter! I’ll eventually get around to some FPL stuff as well but for the time being, Allsvenskan is the main focus. Cheers all!

    Hi Meltens

Played my WC last week for a decent 82 pts with three Djurgarden at the back all delivering. Only moved about 60 places to 522 OR though as those playing Park The Bus would have scored heavily.

    Tankovic again for the armband.

And thanks for the article, cheers.

It’s a slow climb in the top 1k, plenty of similar teams! Will you play all three Djurgården defenders this week as well?

I'll play two out of three, bit of a coin toss but I'll play Danielsson and Witry with Kack first on the bench. My other two on the bench are the Srius forward Offia and the Esk defender Hodzic, neither of whom I expect to deliver anything.

Yeah makes sense, I have a real bench-headache with this squad:
          Abrahamsson (Joelsson)
Witry - Käck - Krogh Gerson (Wernersson, Danielsson)
          Irandust - Kacaniklic- Tankovic - J.Larsson (Jarl)
          Kharaishvili - Söder - Jóhannsson

Feels bad benching Wernersson and Danielsson but the only ones I’d consider otherwise for the bench is Käck and J.Larsson. Tight call that will go down to the deadline...

I'd defenitly play Wernersson and Danielsson out of those. Would have put Käck first on the bench, Witry second and Jarl third.

Thanks Meltens, it's great to have these articles to discuss around every week!

I'm still set on playing my Wildcard this gameweek, but havn't pushed the button yet, with concerns around Toivio and AC. Regarding AC I was also worried about a potential injury against Falkenberg, however, speculations were that it was purely a tactical substitution. He was involved in several tough situations and were lucky not to get a 6th yellow card which would have ment suspension against Djurgården. He was fit to play 90 minutes last night and was brilliant once again, supplying two assists. I still want him on Wildcard, and trying to convince myself that he wont be sold before the window shuts. I saw that article yesterday and it says nothing about any concrete interest or bids from other clubs, and I havn't read anything about it from other sources. The second playoff game is on august 29th, so they would only have two days to sell him after that, and can't sign a replacement since the swedish window for transfers in is shut. With Malmö fighting for the title as well as playing in Europa League (most likely) it would be bizarre to sell the best player so late in the window, so I'll probably get him in.

My wildcard includes several planned transfers, which I know is moronic, and is the complete opposite of the strategy I've used so far which is based on patience. But it's so tempting to get rid of players with bad fixtures now only to get them back in after a few weeks. Will switch from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2, and concidering switching to 4-5-1 from GW25.

    Captain is Tankovic, who els?

      Tankovic for me.

I think I will play the WC next week.

Wanted Toivio myself but I think I will play safe and go Andersson. Can get Toivio on WC next week.

Sounds nice, not sure about Andersson thou. Ekpolo is nailed on right back, so Andersson will have to compete for left back with Sverrison and Arkivou who's on his way back from injury. Andersson had just lost his spot to Arkivou when Arkivou got injuried, which I can understand because Anderssons defending is far from great. He's got the highest ceiling, but I'd say both Lindgren and Ekpolo are more safe options.

I think it is not so bad to have planned transfers as long as you don't get any injury/suspensions to derail the problems.

I was not aware AC had 5 YCs but I'll be keeping him as I think he's still the best pick from Malmo. How is your squad looking?

        My current team is:

        Pettersson
        Witry - Tovio - Mets - Lauritsen - Calisir
        Tankovic - Kacaniklic - Ring - Jarl - Yusuf
        Rosenberg - Khariashvili - Djurdic

Nothing wrong with it really, but I don't fancy Rosenbergs gametime and he was only gonna be a one week punt against Falkenberg. Don't like Rings fixtures, and don't want an AIK player anywhere near my team. Looking at taking out Mets, Calisir, Ring, Yusuf and Rosenberg. The core will be the same, but I will get in players with better fixtures and will be able to free up some cash with moves like Calisir to Da Graca. The problem is to pick 3 Djurgården players. My plan would include to get Käck in for GW23, then get Vaiho out in GW24 so that I caould bring Ring back in for GW25. That is a pretty long term plan though, and a lot could happen...

      Cheers mate! 🙂
AC is brilliant and it does seem a bit late for Malmö to let him go, with them not able to bring in a replacement either. The player himself is a bit vague and seems like he’d be interested but I’m not sure how desperate and crucially, what say he actually has in the matter. Think he’ll stay, it’s just something to keep an eye on (same as all the best players in Allsvenskan).

      Who else? Kacaniklic ofc 😉

Yeah, there were also rumours about Kacaniklic yesterday, but its all so vague and with no real sources. It made me a little hesitant, but I finally pushed the Wildcard button last night. Now waiting for news about Toivio, hoping that he's fit to play. Otherwise I might go for Ekpolo instead, since I'm on a wildcard anyway.

Yup, same with Tankovic. Tbh I don’t really get why bigger clubs doesn’t seem to be in for Tank, with what he’s delivering. Maybe get him cheaper in 6-12 months when his contact runs out? Happy as a Hammarby supporter to keep him as long as possible but can’t see him extending his contract unless there is a nice buy-out clause in it.

It’s hard to get certain fitness updates in Allsvenskan, a bit of an annoyance but it makes the case for a stronger bench!

    Thanks for the article, Meltens!

My PTB started off badly with AIK conceding but all in all I got 107 points to jump from 386 to 127, which feels nice. This week I'm thinking about getting a Norrkoping defender in for Karlsson/Mets (have not decided which yet) and continue with 5-3-2. I'll likely switch to 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 in the upcoming weeks.

    Going safe with captain Tankovic.

Nice rank, so close to just double digits! I like Krogh Gerson even though his cameos at times have let me down. They should be less frequent now with them out of Europe (I hope...).

What do you think guys who will score more points in the next 4 games? Make a ranking:

    Irandust
    Christiansen
    Lundberg
    Toivio
    Abrahamsson

    Thanks!

      Hi!

Difficult as it's depending on things like fitness (Toivio) and gametime (AC, Lundberg). But my if they're all fit to play the next 4, my rank would be:

      Christiansen
      Abrahamsson
      Irandust
      Toivio
      Lundberg

Close between Christiansen and Abrahamsson though.

        Hey, thanks for your answer!
It's interesting as I wouldn't rank AC as high as you did, because Malmo will play against Djurgarden (probably a low scoring game imo), then Kalmar away (their underlying stats are so much better than they actually perform), then Norrkoping (who really started to get their things together and shows better performance in recent weeks), and finally against Elfsborg away (they have quite good results at home). Based on this and the fact that AC is one yellow card away from a suspension, I'm thinking about get rid of him and get Irandust or even Jake Larsson.

        1. Bob Sacamano
          • 5 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

AC is probably the best player in Allsvenskan, is fixture proof and can score points against any opposition. He's also a bonus magnet, so I was counting on him to get about 4p per game without goals and assists. Add a goal or assist to that and he'll be above 20p in four games, which is about his average. I predicted at least 2 clean sheets from Häcken, with save points and bonus for Abrahamsson but no bonus for Toivio since he just can't get them. Lundberg I predicted a goal, 2-3 starts and perhaps a sub appearence. Irandust is the tricky one to guess, but I predicted about 3p per game plus a haul against Falkenberg.

I took AC out just a few weeks ago and I'm already getting him back on wildcard, I'd never take him out at this stage. Irandust got tasty fixtures and I would try and get both somehow, but I wouldn't get rid of AC. He's just one card away from suspension, but so is pretty much every one els as well, you just have to take it.

yeah I also think that AC is one of the best players of course, but not so fixture proof in my opinion. If you look at his numbers against the better teams this season then:

            HACKEN 2p
            HAMMARBY 2p
            norrkoping 4p
            aik 4p
            djurgarden 1p
            hacken 8p

And if he got suspended then he miss one game out of the 4, and I think he will get it against Djurgarden and this way he could miss the Kalmar match and there's no risk to be suspended from the important match vs Norrkoping

I can just go by what I've seen from him this season. IMO he's the best player in Allsvenskan, and he can contribute any kind of points against any opposition. I'm not making decisions based on stats against a cetrain kind of teams, type of pitch etc. but from what I see when I watch the games. At least half of my team have been on/still are on 2 YC and I'm not giving that a second of thought when I make my selections. As for AC, he could get his next booking in the first minute against Djurgården or in the last minute of the last game of the season, you never know. I'm getting him in now and he's staying for the season. If he gets suspended then so be it, I'll make sure to have players on the bench to cover for him.

                Fair enough.
Anyway, probably I'll hold on him too because I wanna build Abrahamsson first into my team, so I really hope that your reasoning and my strategy will be right and that Jake Larsson won't score a hattrick.

Abrahamsson is an excellent choice! He was in my wildcard plans, but I decided to stay with Pettersson instead, since Norrköping have such amazing fixtures. Don't think you need to worry about Jake Larsson. He's a talented player, but I don't really fancy players in that price category, as I prefer mids and strikes to be eighter very cheap or very expensive.

Good suggestion re. Jóhannsson; had forgot about him. Nice price too! Nyman is definitely an option, but I'm tempted to move more money in midfield. Have Söder (and Kharaishvili) already.

Will have to downgrade Khalili in order to bring in Jóhannsson though, and there's not too much to choose from in the mid-price range…

That seems a very nice move as well!

J.Larsson and Jóhannsson seems like very good moves! If not for the Söder / Kharaishvili double-up, I'd definitely consider something similar.

I think I'll go ahead wit that -4; hate taking hits, but I have Linnér in goal, so the AIK defensive double-up isn't needed on current form. Just hope Irandust can deliver.

Is Paulinho an option now? Thinking of WCing and playing the Attack chip

If fit, possibly! Bit expensive though with other cheaper strikers delivering. Also 91 minutes played total in last 7 games is a huge concern. He’s always had fitness issues so that would worry me.

If healthy, one of the absolute best players in Allsvenskan though!

Good player, but still struggling with his fitness. Plays few minutes, card magnet and extremly expensive. Allsvenskan fantasy is a game where money is best spent in defence and midfield, so I would fork out that kind of money for a striker.

For the Attack chip I'd target GW25 with great fixtures for Djurgården, Malmö, Hammarby, Norrköping and Häcken. Great players to chose from there, like Buya, Rosenberg, Djurdjic and Nyman, but they are all very expensive. Not sure that it's worth to build a team around the Attack chip though.

    Wildcard thoughts?

    Vaiho
    Danielsson Witry
    Tankovic Kacaniklic
    Söder

Trying to build around that core.

Which teams are you targeting from here on in?

I have Attack! And 2 Captains left to play.

Not the optimum time to wildcard IMO, since teams to target long term like Djurgården and Norrköping still have one or two difficult fixtures. The core looks good though! My suggestions for the rest of the season would be:

GK: Abrahamsson or Pettersson as a set and forget keeper, or go cheap with Vaiho.

DF: Danielsson, Witry/Käck, Lauritsen, Toivio/Lindgren. A Malmö defender would be great, but theire defence is a minefield right now.

MF: Kacaniklic, Tankovic, AC, Traustasson, Irandust, Haksabanovic, Thorarinsson, Ring.

FW: Khariashvili, Söder, Djurdic, Lundberg, Buya, Nyman, Karlsson

Teams to target is defenitly Norrköping from GW24, Häcken, Djurgården, Malmö and Hammarby. Hesitant about AIK and Göteborg since they'll have terrible fixtures and I don't quite trust them to perform well there.

Interesting, I tick most of those boxes already in my pre WC team:

        Dahlin
        Danielsson Witry Lauritsen Toivio Wernersson
        Tankovic Kacaniklic Ring Larsson Jarl
        Kharaishvili Djurdic Söder

          Looks nice and template!

Dahlin is a good pick since he's the most certain Malmö starter, but I still prefer Abrahamsson or Pettersson since they are ahead on save points and bonus. I wouldn't pick Wernersson at this point since Göteborg have awful fixtures ahead. I still wanted Göteborg coverage for GW 21-24 so I got Da Graca in at 4.3 who returned 8p this GW. So perhaps Da Graca instead, or someone completely different?

Given how awful the Göteborg fixtures are in GW 23 and 25-29, I think a doubble up in attack is a bit too much. I'm also not as convinced about Djurdjic anymore, I think Tankovic and Kacaniklic could be enough there. If I wildcarded now or next GW, I'd defenitly look at 5 premium midfielders, probably Tankovic, Kacaniklic, AC, Haksabanovic and Ring/Irandust.

Yeah if I play the wildcard I would like to ditch Wernersson and Kharaishvili, but keep Söder (who I just bought this game week anyway whether I activate WC or not).

I think I would at the very least try to hold on to the WC one more week and play it in the international break if needed. Then you'll be covered for any goings in the transfer market (though Swedish clubs can't buy, they can still lose players). Agree with Bob that GW25 looks a good chip week for those who still have any left 🙂

On WC I'd 100% include Bahoui, assuming AIK are out of Europe. You have a good team though, wouldn't wildcard!

What do you think of this current WC team :

    Vaiho (Joelsson)
    Lauritsen Danielsson Ekpolo (Wernersson, Bjorkman)
    Tankovic Haksabanovic Yasin Aiesh (Jarl)
    Buya, Haglund, Strandberg

Planning on attack chip in 23 :

Buya v Helsingborgs, Haglund v Falkenbergs, Strandberg v Sundsvall.

Don't quite fancy it to be honest. Joelsson is out for the season, so you might as well get 3.9 fodder there.

I prefer Toivio over Ekpolo, who's got more competition and is a card magnet. Wernersson is a lot of money on someone with awful fixtures, plenty of other options in that price bracket. Björkman could be swapped for Da Graca for Göteborg coverage.

Midfield looks good, althou Yasin is a major disappointment this season. Also risky to go without Kacaniklic. I really like the Aiesh punt, but like Wernersson its a lot of money for someone with awful fixtures.

I have my doubts in attack too. Buya is a good pick, but Strandberg is a major risk surrounded by strong rumours of a transfer abroad. Haglund plays for the most out of form team in the league, who always seem to struggle to score goals.

If I had any chips left, I would target GW25.

        Thanks for the feedback Bob

Regarding Strandberg - with the Swedish window closed do you think it's unlikely he moves then? I think I got carried away with Sirius last match when they scored 3 - doesnt happen often!

Im finding Hammarby fixtures get harder now, so thought by just sticking to Tankovic that I can try to climb the ranks by going with other teams.

The swedish transfer window is only closed for signing players, not for selling players. The problem with Strandberg is that he's on loan from Malmö, who's got no intrest in keeping him. So if they recive an acceptable bid, they have no reason not to accept it, and there's nothing Örebro can do about it really. A move seemed almost done about a week ago, but since then the rumours have cooled off a bit, so at this point it seems likely that he'll stay on loan at Örebro. Strandberg is in great form, and the next two fixtures are amazing. Worth noticing though, is that Örebro is the second worst team in the league at home and have scored much fewer goals at home as well. I would have loved to have Strandberg for the next two fixtures, but I had to think more long term when I wildcarded.

Hammarbys fixtures are certainly turning, but the way they play they can (and probably will) score against all teams in the league. My triple up with Tankovic, Djurdic and Kacaniklic seems a bit to much, I realize that now, but I think the two midfielders are almost essential at this point.

I agree with Bob on all accounts here, I'm looking at ditching Wernerson when I wildcard eventually. Fixtures aren't great for defensive returns but think they'll still score a few. Would find it hard to get rid (or not get in) Robin Söder at this point in time. 7 goals and 2 assists in the last 4 games is quite an impressive stat! Don't expect it to continue at quite that rate but should still be good.

Kacaniklic is also likely to play on Sunday https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/a/6jKv9L/hammarbys-trippla-gladjebesked and long term barring a dramatic loss of form/injury, can't see myself losing him or Tankovic even with the fixtures souring.

As for Strandberg, latest I've read was about a week ago: https://www.fotbolldirekt.se/2019/08/23/bomben-strandberg-detaljer-fran-mellanostern-malmos-nya-miljoner where it would appear they where closing in on a deal with a Saudi-club. Haven't seen anything since but a hattrick the day after will harldy have cooled interest. Örebro has nothing to say in it, all down to Malmö really. Should he stay, he's definitely an option!

Also I like Haglund as a player, but for fantasy I think that he's not really a solid pick. I could be wrong ofc! 🙂
