What impact has the Europa League had on Wolves this season?

As expected, Wolves’ involvement in the Europa League has become a key Fantasy Premier League talking point this season.

A slow start to the 2019/20 campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men had many of us blaming their gruelling schedule.

However, Wolves’ recent win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium forced many of us to reconsider the impact European football was having in the West Midlands.

We’ve gone over the first 10 Gameweeks of the season to assess exactly what effect Thursday matches are having on Wolves.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 campaign can access it in full.

What impact has the Europa League had on Wolves’ results?

    Any ideas for this team?

    Pope
    Lundstram, Otamendi, Tomori, Robbo
    Salah, Sterling (c), Mount, McGinn
    Auba, Abraham

    Button, Soyuncu, Dendoncker, Greenwood

Sell Auba to fund KDB and/or Vardy.

Otamendi could become VVD? Or McGinn could make way for Maddison or Tielemans.
You have a good structure mate.
Though the obvious one would be to try and upgrade Greenwood. You could look at letting him make way for Maupay?

    Sterling (TC) anyone?

I know many will say wait for Double GW. But there is always rotation risk with DGWs and I've personally only ever had one successful TC DGW.

So this week may be the best time to use.

A mate in our league used the TC in week 1 on Sterling for his 20 point haul. Since then though he has plummeted and is now ranked 3m. As I write this, I'm starting to think it's irrelevant to your post so apologies.

If Sterling was TC'd in a DGW. Got 1 goal in one game, 2 in the next. There is a good chance he'd get triple bonus points too. That's the only argument I'd have against. Though as many of us know, it doesn't always work out that way so there's no right or wrong answer if you feel strongly about him scoring well

      1. International Richard
        • 13 Years

Your logic is correct. However, after playing the game for too long, double game weeks almost always involve the player bench warming on the 2nd game. Even stalwarts (who’s played 90 mins every game so far) like Vardy is affected.

      It's between A & B. Probably B.

Pulisic being taken off early, and CHO playing the whole game last night may mean CHO only gets a cameo. Watford have been pretty tight lately anyway.

I'm just deterred with Liverpool and Chelsea either side of the international break. Though I agree with these who say these premium players are fixture proof as Sterling in a match winner. I myself will be watching the City game hoping Sterling calms it down 😀

    1. Jullepuu

People are saying that Trossard coming back means that Connolly is getting benched. Trossard is a winger so in my opinion he is going to replace Alzate.

I think that it comes down to the formation that they use against Norwich. If they go with 2 strikers then Maupay starts with Connolly or Murray and Connolly is in better form at the moment.

If they play for example 3-4-3 then it's probably just Maup

      1. Jullepuu

Trossard can play up top as well, so it's not that simple. Also, Mooy is back from suspension I think which is another potential starter to throw into the mix.

        1. Jullepuu
          • 4 Years

I think I am fine with team for this week below but have 2 free transfers so perhaps worth using one to replace Diop or Cantwell. Nothing in bank which is limiting. If Otamendi no show Söyüncü off bench so willing to keep one more week after his good performance on Wednesday

So which would you use one of free transfers on

    A Diop to Janmaat
    B Cantwell to Dendoncker

    Pope
    TAA Otamendi Diop Rico
    Salah Sterling (c) Mount KDB
    Vardy Abraham

Currently ranked at 800k but not necessarily worse off than in previous years when I've finished respectively, Christmas is usually the time when I look to break into the top 100k then climb the ranks. It's certainly been a more challenging season but I'm equally enjoying it

I'm having an absolute nightmare of a season, nothing since GW2 is working out this season and that has left me at an overall rank of 3.7M.

700k. It's been rough. Not knee-jerking and being patient has been the main killer. Not jumping on Pukki early, not jumping off Liverpool defenders early enough etc. This season has favoured knee-jerking, or I guess they've earned the title of "quick adaptors" this season.

Magnus Carlsen's success is something I need to analyse in detail though, as his consistently top performances in this game suggest that there is a skill to it, and we've been overstating the luck element...

Liverpool triple defence stinking the place out. VVD, the greatest centre half in the history of the game asleep while Kane nodded in unchallenged...

I can see the temptation mate. Considered it myself.
I questioned the fact that he could score at OT and Newcastle and Wolves are terrible fixtures following

If they were equal money when I decided two gws ago, I would have gone Firminho. Should be performing better than Vardy over the next seven, been unlucky of late.

(posted in the DZ this morning...what does the new crowd reckon?)

    Locked, Loaded & Boosted:

    Pope / Hendo
    Taa / Pva / Rico / Pieters / Janmaat
    Mane / Sterling / Dilva / Richarlison / Mount
    Vardy / Connolly / Jimenez

took a -12 last week to give my team a major shake up bringing in Vardy, Dilva, Jimenez and Janmaat...worked a treat. Did Mahrez to Siggy (as I fancy a three week punt on him)...other than that what's strange about it btw?

Oh thats why, I knew you mixed it somehow. Maybe I used wrong term. It is not strange but certainly different and could pay off big time. PVA is always good shout in defence and Palace is solid. Mane instead of Mo and no KdB will define all in my opinion. Not sure about Rich and Janmaat but could also work. But Vardy+Jimenez is actually potential rank booster for me. But then don't listen to me I am having a terrible season. Hope it will work for you.

Cheers again, not everyone's cup of tea I know...Mo hasn't shown very much so far to make me scared of him, KDB has but Dilva's cracking value. Rich is a three week punt with two home games out of next three...Soton and Norwich (the teams you'd want your attackers against) up after Spurs this GW. GL for the GW 🙂

MITB? Assuming this is a WC on bench boost?

If not, do you plan to play Connolly and Richarlison over Jimenez this gw?

CP will have good fixtures soon, meanwhile Pieter's Janmaat and Rico rotates well around TAA. Slightly too expensive for my taste, but good defense. For instance, Kelley could be a placeholder for PvA, Cancelo or some other attacking back with good fixtures, because your other four defenders sets you up well for at least the next three. Would allow the possibility of Martial this gw over Richarlison, for instance, and if you really rate his two games after Tottenham, DSilva to Richarlison ahead of City's LIV fixture.

Good midfield. Silva to Martial in gw 12 and Richarlison back to a city mid in gw 14?

Hope I gave some food for thought.

Wolves played almost the exact same opponents the first 10 gameweeks last year as this year... With the exception being that tough game against Chelsea...

Seems to me their season has started very similar and the extra Europa league games haven't really affected them that much... That Chelsea game I think contributes a lot to the difference in statistics, given it was a 2-5 loss!!

So players who are still nailed on like Jimenez I think still offer great value. Only problem is the rotation of Doherty and such... I think he is still worth it at 6.0, if he could just nail down that same role he had last year...

      after this week they have

AVL, bou, SHU, WHU in the next 4. I know Boly long-term injury weakens them, but what will the first choice back 3 be? I'm think Saiss could be a steal at 4.4 if he can nail down a spot there. Have a feeling he'll get the nod over Vallejo. Even doherty was preferred at CB over Bennett and Vallejo so you'd think Saiss has a good chance.

98k atm and I still have my WC. Not sure if I should take a risk and use the WC

    Heaton | 4.0
    Robertson | Van Dijk | Tomori | Soyuncu | Walker-Peters
    Salah | Sterling | Mount | James | Dendoncker
    Vardy | Abraham | Ayew

    To this...

    Gazzaniga | 4.0
    TAA | Pereira | Wan-Bissaka | Lascelles | Rico
    Sterling | Mane | Martial | Mount | Dendoncker
    Vardy | Jimenez | Connolly

Worth it or keep the WC?
