Scoutcast discusses how to learn from FPL mistakes

Join us for the latest episode of the Scoutcast this evening.

As per usual, the show will be running on our YouTube channel from 20:00 GMT until 21:00 GMT.

In episode 307, Joe will be joined by Holly Shand and Lee Bonfield to discuss how to learn from Fantasy Premier League mistakes.

After looking back on Gameweek 11, the three pundits will look to a tricky round of action for Fantasy managers.

Liverpool and Manchester City’s meeting at Anfield on Sunday is likely to temper enthusiasm for the popular premium options – and could increase pressure on our mid-price and budget assets.

With that in mind, our player of choice this week is John Lundstram (£4.8m) who simply won’t stop making FPL history this season.

After that, we’ll update you on the current differential and clean sheet standings.

As Liverpool and Chelsea are also playing in the Champions League, concurrently with the Scoutcast, we shall endeavour to bring you any relevant score or injury updates.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 11

Anyone know how to suspend a player from a mini league?
When I search for his (any) name in the search bar in the league admin page - it just goes blank?

I’ve don’t this in the past with no issues.

A question for anyone who watched Leicester's last game against Palace, how did Maddison fare in open play?

I watched the SOU game and my take from it was that though on set pieces he wasn't getting anywhere near advanced enough in open play to be an attractive FPL pick.

I didn't watch the Palace match but have heard conflicting reports on his performance. Set pieces aside, what was his position and attacking threat like?

    Thanks.

Yes, of course. Though I'm perhaps a little too lazy or inept to dig really deep into the stats. Plus it was stats that caused me to bring him in a couple weeks ago, but stats only tell part of the story and after watching the SOU match was really keen to ditch. I'm just interested in hearing how involved he looked from those watching the match.

        hi i watched it

he had one pass from deep to Vardy who missed one on one, and like vs Southampton he is a little bit too deep at times, a little like Lanzini at West Ham so he is involved heavily but often as the creator/initiating role, but in some aspects of game he and Tielemans shifts position and he drifts more into the box. When Praet and Morgan came in he was shifted towards more of a free rolling 10 role with Gray, with Vardy as lone striker. What we seen is that he can have 8 points in a 9-0 win where other players in team gets cricket score but he also gets 9 pointers game after where most of the other assets gets nothing. You are getting a player that plays no matter what, Tielemans is perhaps the most nailed apart from him as the other wingers will get reduced mins and more rotation risk bit at cheaper price.

Many thanks. This is very much appreciated.

I do like how he attracts baps due to all the chances he creates from set pieces, the number of completed passes he has and how he rarely loses possession, but I'm still concerned that he will only get the odd assist every few weeks.

          Again, much appreciated analysis.

Just an overall view. A case of who I sacrifice for Mane.

Ah OK, I was thinking to bring in Mane for Sterling myself after this gameweek.... City's fixtures turn a bit (whilst Liverpoo's get easier) and Sterling is 'off-form' seemingly. It could be a massive mistake though...

The problem with downgrading Vardy is... who would you bring in? There aren't many great options in the FWD lineup compared to midfield options... and Leicester are in top form with plenty of great fixtures to go. I'll be keeping Vardy a while yet.

As for KdB, I've heard on here that he's playing a big deeper and more defensively due to the Rodri injury. This may be true, I haven't checked the stats, but I've got plenty of value tied up in him and he's likely to start firing again soon. I think he's never going to leave my team this season barring serious injury.

Even if KDB is playing deeper due to Rodri injury (likewise I haven't checked stats) Rodri due back after Int break.

Just checked, Sterling has scored 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season. Not sure he's really struggling for form... Maybe he's been a little out of sorts last couple games, bit nothing I've picked up on.

Vardy has something like a 48% shot conversion rate. Yes he's got easy fixtures and yes he's had difficult one ls, but I don't see him keeping up with the others. I still want him in my team, but I wouldn't drop any of the others mentioned for him.

            1. Jarnathan
              • 7 Years
              4 years, 4 months ago

Yeah as I said, I think getting mane for Sterling could be a massive mistake. I think I'd probably be more comfortable captaining Mane at the moment though... in any case I still haven't made up my mind on it.

Vardy's goal conversion is double what it was last season, but they're also a slightly different team with less of the responbility falling onto Vardy to run behind defenses and score. I understand what you're saying - you're suggesting he's been 'lucky'. I don't know if stats can tell you that by themselves, you'd have to watch the footage of all his goals I suspect....

His conversion rate is brilliant and not likely to be sustainable. I am trying to avoid selling KDB and Sterling. I could do it by moving TAA too but I can't bring myself to do it.

Leicester had tough fixtures at the start of the season so I would expect him to get more chances going forward. Even if his conversion rate drops he could still sustain the scoring rate I think. Besides, he is a brilliant finisher.

Perhaps you are right, he is playing a slightly different role and he is really good (exceptional) in front of goal and i'd expect him to be more clinical than most, but even so I have doubt he'll be able to keep up this rate of returns. It will all turn on what service he gets I reckon. If Barnes and Perez can up their game and regularly perform, then perhaps he will sustain it.

what seems to be an issue is that Mané you know he plays and also that he is part of front three while Sterling without a proper left back seems to be more restricted. Latter scores hattricks once in a while, Mané rarely does that so not an easy one.

All said is correct. The simple way is move Sterling. KDB staying due to how much it cost to get him back. Bilva and Gundo can play deeper too. I want to keep Vardy but a downgrade to Mosset makes Mane life easier. I can sell Mount or McGinn then.

            1. Jarnathan
              • 7 Years

Sell McGinn unless you're going to lose value on Mount. Villa fixtures remain difficult and I think Grealish may be the Villa player to own moving forwards with his new more forward position (like Salah)

Tielemans nothing else considered. Mount if you'd lose a lot of cash on him / won't have a bench to cover.

Check members stats, pretty average numbers especially compared to the other mids. Was unlucky against Watford I'll give you that but prior to that he was very poor in terms of looking likely.

Compared to other ~ 6 mil mids? I'll check out numbers when I get opportunity, but prior to this I'd had absolutely no intention of dropping him.

-passing the eye test and very unlucky not to have scored more points recently.
-two games that could be tough for Chelsea are ideal for him to miss (if one has a good bench) and he'll be back after that hopefully.
-wont drop that much (wont be able to buy him back at 6.0 or close to it).

I can only sell at 6.5
There’s no way he will drop 0.4 if he’s only out a week. So I’d not afford to get him back.
He’s the best player by far in that price range and has been ticking over with points. Can’t complain at that price.
No one comes close at his price.

Also, if he is out, it reduces my benching headache somewhat, and I can play my defenders.

Things changes if he’s out for 6 weeks. Then it’s a obvious sell. But not if out for a week.

Look at KDB! Sellers kicked themselves

KDB is different imo, he is a season keeper. I never considered selling KDB. Not sure I can say the same about Mount though even at his price, rather just jump on inform players.

Easy to ship if you have money ITB

Bit more easier for me to keep when I have 0.0 ITB

But like I say. It’s a keep it out for a week.

If out for longer, then it’s a easy sell. No idea who would come in though. Another injury this week may force my hand.

If he is ruled out now, Id probably sell him. I bought at 6.5 tho.

Wait a week for Robbo. Sound to have 2 Pool defenders but yet to show it. I would get Schar/Willems Sais or double up on Leicester. TAA and Lunds play every week so Soy/Rico good enough. Maybe get a 3.9.

Personally I'd be looking at Leicester for next few games, then Trossard, McGinn, Freakish all come in to contention.

    Pick one -

    (A) Perreira & Saka ---> Lundstram and Harvey Barnes
    (B) Perreira & Dunk ---> Soyuncu and Chilwell
    (C) Perreira & Dunk ---> Soyuncu and Lundstram

Perreira holding too much unnecessary cash.
    Brighton defense fixtures not favorable.

Rank 10k dropped to 29k without Lundstram.

has an awful stat away at anfield and contrary to what most people think Liv defense is not bad at Anfield, yes they tend to give away a goal but on the other hand, have not conceded more than one in any league game so far.

    1. Should I do Wilson > Jimmy? Have already done Kun > Vardy, and have 1FT.

    2. I've got a few fires to put out (Yarmo, Cantwell, potentially Mount), and am looking at mid-priced options such as Tielemans/Maddison.
Should I take anyone out? If yes, who?

    Pope
    TAA, Lund, Rico
    Salah, KDB, Yarmo, Mount
    Vardy (C), Tammy, Wilson

    Button, Soy, Cantwell, Janmaat

    Thanks

Aguero or Sterling out for Mane or Salah? Aguero and Salah would be differentials in my mini leagues where im chasing.

Thinking Sterling to Mane and roll other ft, I like Aguero for this big games more than Sterling just not sure on Mane/Salah
