Scoutcast crew discuss evolving template and best chip strategies

There are some big questions for the Scoutcast crew to answer tonight.

The Fantasy Premier League template continues to break up and dissolve while new players are making cases for a place in the new so-called ‘meta team’.

Join Joe, Karam and Pro Pundit Tom Freeman on our YouTube channel to hear their discussion.

The show will run from 20:00 GMT to 21:00 GMT.

Up for consideration in the new template is Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), so we will begin our analysis with him ahead of a favourable Gameweek 26 match against West Ham.

Meanwhile, those on the chopping block include John Lundstram (£5.1m), Leicester players and other cheap defenders.

Our pundits will discuss which of these they will be keeping and who should be ditched as soon as possible.

Finally, we’ll be looking ahead to the upcoming Blank and Double Gameweeks to assess when the best time to play the chips will be.

It literally is all a game. Dunno what you expect from them. Imagine how weird it is with the media and fans all obsessing over you and acting crazy. Some will joke around because of that some will get angry and some will handle it better than others. It's still a weird situation

Picking up on the Great and Good community article, considering that most people see a top 100k finish as the minimum for a committed manager, the top 50k as a fairly decent season and the top 10k as an excellent season, is it concerning that so many of these expert managers who we get FPL content from are languishing so low down the rankings with not that long to go in the season?

Is this a case of luck, or the experts trying too hard to be different and ignoring the more obvious options?

Yes. It is. Myself included. I've never finished below 50k in 12 years. Usually 10k.

Yeah I’m personally finding some of the tips and content on various places quite contrived, with people trying to be too clever. (See the rush to buy Pogba after one good 20 minute cameo)

It's mainly a load of tosh. My record is very strong I reckon but I don't have any advice to give other than watch football and pick the players you predict will get the points. It's very simple game. Some are better at predicting than others. Some are luckier than others.
Main way I'm different to most is I barely look at stats. Boring

Interesting - this is actually very similar to me. Always do better when I’m watching games and not relying on stats which don’t really tell the full story.

I've done a lot better since I stopped looking at stats last season. They induce overthinking and mislead me into a player I didn't originally consider. This may not apply to everyone, but I think if you've done the eye test, they're redundant.

Completely agree. I’ve definitely got stuck with players who have a lot of shots in the box for example, but when you watch the game they’re all being blazed over or they’re from the side of the pitch etc - none are actually close to any goals.

Some examples. Grealish is obviously villas best player and everything goes through him. He has stepped up all season. Without looking I can say, good stats and good pick.
Barnes had been in awesome form. Tearing teams apart. He's also not very composed imo. Good stats and worth a punt but expect blanks.
Firmino is in excellent form and when he's confident and playing like this points follow. I guess numbers agree.
Son is struggling and playing poorly but still getting points. Imma guess stats are bad by his standard. Like where are numbers gonna help me here. Aguero, Salah lol.

Yeah I don't see the appeal. So when a player impresses me and makes me think goals assists or clean sheets are coming why do I need numbers to back it up.

Stats can be incredibly misleading for defence in particular - see United’s defence with very low xGC and actual goals conceded every week.

This is how I got Snodgrass.. I watched few of WHU games and thought that he was very dangerous and involved in most actions.. He didn't do much on the double GW, but we all know what he did the GW after that.. Now I'm still keeping him, alldough WHU plays vs MCU and LIV.. (sry for half broken English)

Agreed. I was just listening a podcast which just recommended Rodriguez instead of Wood “just to be different” and my heart sank. There’s nothing wrong with the obviously good option! (Which isn’t Wood to be honest anyway.)

It's crazy. What we have is many thousands of people in the online fpl world doing a lot of points chasing and fear holding so there is always an acceptable template. Then you have some trying to be different to stand out so they pick Jay Rodriguez lol. It's a simple game just like the one it's based on

Yeah and also important to remember than lots of the self proclaimed experts aren’t actually very good managers even if they have big following now.

Yeah that is kinda strange. Like if you enjoy fpl and are an entertaining content creator that people like then sweet. But if your thing is that you are a pro and the one that gives the advice to make inferior plebs successful then you'd wanna be bloody good. You should either have the history success in black and white that backs up your method or you should be very knowledgeable about football tactics or statistical analysis.

I feel like they try more to play it safe sometimes as transfers that everyone else isn’t agreeing with would be deemed crazy or foolish and you don’t want a moment of foolishness to be the reason for a rank drop. I myself have had a tough season, 60k now and only got there recently after bringing in Ake for a few games. Almost got a clean sheet first game and scored of course this week. Absolutely no one was talking about getting him in. Last season when in top 5k all season I used more hits and I have not been doing as much of that this season for fear of wasting transfer or making a foolish mistake.

not harsh per say, it was offside but just quite a bit before the actual goal, but with having to play on until it goes out for VAR it can seem harsh. Not a great rule tbh, would be better if they just blew for offside when it was offside!

Was hoping for a Shrewsbury win, because if that had happended, I would have saved my FH chip in gw 31. So what's the best strategy? Hope that Liverpool will lose against Chelsea and save the Free hit until gw34 or gw 37 (Bench Boost the other) or just assume now that Liverpool will win Chelsea and use the Free Hit in bgw 31?

If you have WC, FH in 31, WC some time between 32-36 (depending on DGW34) and BB in 37.

If you don't have WC, do the best to have as many as you can in 31 with FTs and FH in 37. BB in any given single GW where all your bench players have good fixtures.

Save wildcard. I think the ultimate plan, is to do wc week before the biggest dgw. And set up a nice team for the dgw, and Benchboost.
Leaving you with 15 solid players to use. This was my plan, but since i lost faith, i used wc 2 weeks ago.

So do you think a huge FPL blank is advantageous for people with their FH? Wouldn't 3 or 4 fixtures be optimal?

I'm just thinking if it's only Wolves v Bournemouth and Burnley v Watford... most people will probably go with Doherty, Traore, Jimenez, Wood and double Burnley defence. Outside of those players, I don't see much else. Probably 2 points all around.

Green arrow yes, but is it making the most out of the chip? I don't know?

Tough. Don't like fleck unless he's on your bench and don't like Moura. I'd rather son, Barnes and Firmino or vardy

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but has there been any update on Mane? Last I saw I think was Klopp saying he was out for Southampton but then should be back?

No reason why he's not back against Norwich... esp. with Atletico a couple of days time..

Anyone else find the first half of the season much more enjoyable than the 2nd half?

Just concentrating on the best picks is much more fun and less spin that dealing with doubles, blanks and chips

Wish they'd ditch the chips and just stuck to 2 wildcards.

I enjoy it usually around the middle when I'm in a groove and confident I have a grasp on who's who.
      Yes the chips suck

Newcastle fans are going to have to start liking Bruce, even if he did manage Sunderland first. 🙂

Big shoes to fill after Rafa. It's like he's married Brad Pitts ex. He'll always be a disappointment

Does anyone know when the potential double gameweeks will be? And how many of them? And which teams will be involved? Thanks.
