Captain Poll

Salah and Mané top early Gameweek 27 captain poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) is the runaway favourite to win the Gameweek 27 captain poll.

Despite a surprise blank at Norwich on Saturday, the Egyptian and his Liverpool colleagues still have a favourable fixture in this round.

West Ham come to Anfield on Monday night, a ground where they usually struggle, having conceded four goals on both of their two previous Premier League visits.

Ahead of the Hammers’ midweek meeting with Manchester City, David Moyes side have conceded 43 goals this season, only Southampton (48), Norwich (48) and Aston Villa (50) letting in more.

Therefore, it is no surprise to see Salah already on 54.3% support in our poll.

However, our voters do believe that his colleague Sadio Mané (£12.2m) could emerge as the differential option in Gameweek 27, backed by 12.4%.

The Senegalese international returned from his Double Gameweek 24 injury against Norwich and scored the winning goal.

Meanwhile, Mané has attacking returns in four of his last five home matches in the Premier League.

Also receiving some consideration from the Fantasy community is Danny Ings (£7.1m) after he continued his scoring form with a goal against Burnley.

Southampton host an Aston Villa defence that suffered in the absence of captain Tyrone Mings (£4.5m) in Gameweek 26, so those looking at Ings may well be interested in Dean Smith’s next press conference.

You can now vote in the captain poll below or in the sidebar of the website.

What are people's plans with Liverpool players once they have won the league?
    Is rotation more likely?
How many players are you keeping and which ones?

Have 2 currently (TAA, Salah). Can not decide on which 3rd player to get. Too early to worry about that imo.

Watched the last match and I was shocked to see the striker playing LW or rather LB with Saka in front of him most of the time. Wasn't a pleasant viewing. Will likely watch how he plays against Everton as a 2FTs might come handy before GW28. But Jimenez is against Norwich and I might have to lose Auba anyway, as he blanks 28.

Ole post match after Chelsea win
" Martial has been told X amount of times to get runs in box more often"
Goes to show that its not Ole fault the team is struggling. Any manager will struggle with a team who doesnt listen. Granted Martial scored today, but in first half itself he had 3 more such opportunities to get in the box and tap in. Rashford will be surely missed till April

He plays like he is not interested in the game but that is his style of play. Not good but it works so well for him. It is a trap for the opposing defenders.

Look at that goal, no one expected it & Boom, He gave it a delicious header. Christensen & co. were lost.

All is clearly not Ole's fault but most part of the rubbish is from Ole & the board

Saying that he intentionally plays like he is not interested to lure defenders into a false sense of security to me sounds like you are seeing something that isn't there. To put it bluntly I believe he looks disengaged because he is so and he has a serious attitude problem.

Well, that is his business, as long as he keeps scoring goals for my fpl team. I don't really care

It's not clear from your post what "rubbish" Ole is presenting. Also, he and the board is not the same thing. I think he's been fighting an uphill battle with the board, just as the managers before him, but now they're trying to turn the ship around. Slowly and steadily.

Ole is not "tactically sound" or rather less intelligent compared to the likes of Pep, Klopp etc. One would expect a more experienced manager at a club like Utd.e.g Ancelotti

Ole is a care manager imo still learning quite alot from the game although I agree with you, he will improve with time & things will gradually change but it's a process.

Likewise, Ole has a very horrible win % at Utd in the PL since he joined

Well, his "less intelligent" approach has helped us beat City and Chelsea several times and be the only team that has taken points from Liverpool in the league this season, so I'm not sure I buy that argument. Initially he made some tactically questionable decisions, but his choices to go with makeshift back-threes in big games this season has surprised everyone and worked out better than anyone could expect. He's obviously not Pep or Klopp – there are only two of them and they have other jobs.

Yes, he has less experience than the other two. I still think he has a good mind for the game. People are really happy to question him as a manager when he's inherited a squad that is a conglomerate of three different managers' (failed) transfer policies. Let's face it: If Martial had been a more clinical forward, we wouldn't even be discussing Ole right now.

His win percentage isn't THAT bad either – we all expect it to improve, as they have wasted a lot of "sure wins" this season. It's around 50%. See here:

Leicester double or triple up? Their form has not been as good compared to earlier in the season.

Their fixtures look pretty good though and at home to City GW27. Doubt they will lay down and let City walk all over them.

Vardy is Vardy. He usually delivers in the big fixtures. Been awful recently but could be back with a vengance. When he is in form, one of the deadliest assets you can own.

They also have no Europe but still involved in the FA Cup so blanks pending should they make it to the next round.

They will also want to finish 2nd in the League so plenty of reasons for them to go all out now.

I got rid of Vardy for Auba and feels like it was sideways. Want to get him back in and extra cash from Auba sale allows for upgrades.

          Thoughts?

Jimi. You can always do Bob to Vard in a few games if he picks up.

I have Vardy, Ings and Jimi. Another reason why I'm keeping Vardy is there are no other compelling options as I have Mane, Salah and TAA so Bobby isn't an option.

Will be touching on this in an article I've written (coming out today I think)

But am wondering what your take on the third Liverpool slot is?

We've pretty much all got Salah and Trent, but the third spot is up for grabs.

Robertson (7.0) and Van Dijk (6.5) are on course for a 200+ point season, although to me, Robertson has actually been under-performing on his potential with "only" 6 assists, half as many as Trent. Van Dijk has 4 goals this season, is he worth the extra 1.2m over Gomez, who ticks along, but doesn't look capable of scoring?

Then we have Mané (12.2) back in the fold, those that kept must be pleased to see him scoring again, but for those that sold - getting him back? Spending nearly a quarter of your budget on two midfielders, when you can only captain one, seems a lot. But could also be the ticket to some pretty sweet rank rises. Could Henderson (5.5) with 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 be a bit of a dark horse, or is that just crazy talk?

Then up front, we have Firmino (9.7). He takes up a valuable striker spot, despite often not looking hungry for goals. He seems to either blank or haul, are there better options in the team?

Who have you got, and why?

For pure value and points per million simply can’t go past Salah (C), TAA and VVD. Nailed assets who are integral to the team and who produce points for fun. As you eluded to, Mane is a great FPL asset in isolation but it make no sense to spend an extra 6 million on him over VVD. No sense whatsoever

Except that there's so much value everywhere especially up front that I can afford to and it doesn't cripple my team at all.

I'm very happy to have both now.

                Agreed.

                Hendo
                TAA Boly Stephens (Egan, Lascelles)
                Salah Mané KDB Barnes (x)
                Ings Vardy Jimenez

... seems like a perfectly good team, for instance. Could even downgrade one fwd to DCL and it still looks very good.

Gomez. Brilliant value. Set and forget. Enables getting expensive options from other teams and rotate them based on form. When you have Mane + Salah your morw likely to use FT on medium to low budget

I think Gomez you can bench away at city or if a lesser player has a DGW too. Would never be happy benching Robertson or VVD though.

Salah and TAA are season keepers for me. I had VVD and Mané earlier in the season but I WCd 2 gws ago and got Robertson as I feel he's due a haul in those green fixtures in the coming weeks.

For me, TAA is the only must have. For me, after that it's one of VVD/Rob and one of Mane/Salah.

Have TAA/VVD/Salah currently, when on a WC I'll probably switch midfielder - Mane is the better player (hide me from Irbox), so unless Mo gets a spell up top in that 4231 I prefer to have him.

Don't see a need for Gomez this season, I don't know where I'd spend the extra cash but I'll consider it on my WC.
Firmino or Henderson are good options but not good enough to take a slot.

I’m not against that at all mate. I prefer Salah, but Mane with double defence is also correct

I might go that way. Bought Mane early and have kept him. Mane TAA, VVD or Robertson for me when using wc

Ignoring stats, for me out of the sheer fear factor (and as a fan) I am always terrified when I don’t own Robertson. How high he gets up the pitch, when he gets in the box, how good he is at crossing, always has me worried when I don’t own him.

It’s a bit more exciting watching him bomb up in open play then hoping for VVD to get on the end of a cross.

Mane TAA Robbo as they will yield the most points from now until the end of the season

Prior to yesterday I had Gomez. Locked at CB and won't lose his place outside of Big Cup/illness. I had the cash to move him for Mané. So, TAA (since GW1), Salah, Mané.
Lundstram might be the only other survivor from that XI. KdB possibly sold for a week when injured but grabbed back when given the all clear.

I don’t see how Robbo is underperforming - he has 6 assists and 5.77 xA for the season.

However, VVD is massively over performing with 4 goals and 1.47 xG for the season.

So for me Robbo is an easy decision over VVD. However, I’d be interested in baseline bonus statistics.

I find that headed chances carry a very low xG. Someone of VVD’s stature and aerial presence should command a much higher xG. I remember him not even having to jump for a couple of his goals this season and dispatched with consummate ease

Not underperforming on his stats, and actually xA is a funny metric as it depends on the conversion of others.

I just see Trent and Robertson as pretty equal, yet one has 20 more points and double the assists.

I had Mane, TAA and Robbo pre-injury. Now I have Salah and the two defenders I don't see the logic in chopping and changing. Originally my value was tied up in Mane, now him and Salah are the same price it would be a waste of a FT to go back. Baring injury I think I will finish the season with that trio.

Kept Mané, so I’ve got him, Trent and Salah. Some great fixtures coming up for Liverpool to hopefully get amongst the goals and I’m thinking I might give the armband to Mané due to his lower ownership.

I have Firmino and don't consider it a wasted striker spot.

I have Jimenez and Ings anyway.

Vardy not exactly doing brilliantly (at the moment) and Aguero is quite pricey to have after West Ham.

There's a lot of value at the back at the moment so while the Liverpool defenders are extremely good value, there's potentially some very good value picks elsewhere for a lot less money like Egan, Stephens, Boly - that lets you waste a valuable striker spot on Firmino 😉

I transferred out Mane and brought in Van Dijk - my gut feel is that he is almost rotation proof and probably good for another 2-3 goals this season. No regrets at all, just struggling to find a way of spending my healthy bank balance!

Its TAA, Mane and Salah, from the Value Over Replacement Player (VORP) point of view.

Essentially we have defenders from teams like Wolves, Sheffield Utd, Southampton and Leicester who should be able to get near the scores the Liverpool defenders (excluding TAA) achieve over the next few weeks. Up top we have DCL, Jimenez, Ings, Vardy who should get near what Firmino achieves. However in midfield, we have Mane and Salah, then a huge gap in quality (and in predicted points) and price before any other viable midfield asset. Son is injured, KDB/Mahrez are likely to have 2 blanks in the next 5 games, Pepe has the same problem (and is inconsistent anyway), so the next best is probably Moura, and there are question marks over him due to Spurs attack in general, and the fact they are missing Son now. You're probably looking at a 10-12 point difference in output over just the next 5 weeks, and far more if Liverpool play in 31 and others don't.

Think the Son injury pushes towards double Liverpool attack.
Other sides with good fixtures just don't have decent attacking options but do have value defensive ones.

I've sunk quite a lot over the past few weeks (from sub-50k to 300k) so looking to make some ground with some differentials.

There's two ways to go differential, with picks or with captaincy. I'm toying between going with Robbo and Salah permacap and getting in the likes of Bruno, Pepe, Richarlison, Maddison in midfield. Or going with the Salah + Mane double up and opting for a differential captain over the next few weeks:
27 - Jimenez (NOR) or Ings (AVL)
28 - Abraham (bou) or Vardy (nor) or Ings (whu)
29 - Arsenal striker (WHU + mci?) or City mid (mun + ARS/che?) or Vardy (AVL)
30 - Abraham (avl) or Jimenez (whu) or Ings (nor)
              31 - Free Hit

It seems odd to me that Allison is not even mentioned. If you want to do the defensive double-up (leaving aside double attack of Salah and Mane which is also a good option), what’s so wrong with the Liverpool keeper?

I opted for TAA and Allison on my wildcard last week as well as Salah. I know he won’t bring attacking returns like Robbins or VVD. But my rationale was that Allison and a cheap Sheffield United defender is quite more budget-friendly than VVD plus Dean Henderson. Freed up more funds for my attack and worth considering, in my opinion.

Exactly! Alisson gives me less headache for the GK position, he’ll be there until Liv becomes champions and we’ll see after that.

Going with TAA, Alisson and Salah has helped to push me to 100k rank from 600k in recent gameweeks.
