GW 8 Allsvenskan Fantasy – Ones to Watch

One more article before the summer break. I’ve selected five players with the potential to deliver big points in GW8. No clean sheets in GW7 has made me lean towards more attacking-minded players this time out.

Axel Björnström (5.8)

The Sirius left-back was a fantasy revelation last season having delivered 5 goals and 7 assists. This season he looked a bit lacklustre at the beginning of the season, but the underlying stats suggest he may hit form very soon. He’s created 7 chances in the last three matches and he played as a proper wingback against IFK Göteborg. He faces an Östersunds FK side that has the lowest xG in the league so he offers the prospect of returns at both ends of the pitch.

Jacob Ortmark (5.8)

New signing Ortmark has relatively gone under the radar this season. He’s among the top-scoring midfielders this season and he offers value for money. Yet he’s only owned by 11.9% of managers.

Ortmark has been more influential in away matches so far, which is a good sign ahead of his trip to Östersunds FK. He’s delivered 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 games. What’s more, he played a more advanced role versus IFK Göteborg and was unlucky not to be on the scoresheet after shooting from “close range” two times. If he keeps on playing so advanced, his potential will be further boosted, particularly because his GW8 opponents have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last 5 matches.

Veljko Birmancevic (8.0)

The former FK Cukaricki player is yet to show his real potential. His start to the season was curtailed by an injury that made him miss the first two opening games, but ever since he’s shown glimpses of his attacking threat. His underlying stats are not exactly impressive, but he’s managed to score 2 goals in just 279 minutes. There’s a caveat though: he’s been subbed off before the 60-minute mark in 3 of the 4 games he’s started.

Birmancevic sits in just under 4% per cent of squads, which bodes well for those who want to attack GW8 by picking differentials. He faces a trip to Örebro OSK, a side that has conceded 8 goals in his last 4 matches

Astrit Selmani (10.4)

The former Varbergs BoIS FC star had a very slow start to the season, but he has rediscovered some form of late. He scored his first goal of the season against fierce rivals Djurgårdens IF and his confidence is surely on a high. He’s delivered four assists so far and has accumulated 4 shots on target in the last three matches. He’s joint-top for big chances created among all players with 5. He faces a Kalmar side that, in spite of showing defensive solidity in the first GWs, was completely outplayed by Mälmo in GW7. His relatively hefty price tag may be a put-off for some managers, but given his creative role, more assists and goals are expected soon.

Marcus Antonsson (7.0)

Another player that has gone relatively under the radar this season is former Leeds United striker Antonsson, who is among the most in-form players in the game. Since the start of the season, he’s been involved in 57% of Halmstads BK’s goals; it is surprising he hasn’t gone up in price yet. He’s had 6 shots on target in his last 4 matches and there’s no doubt he’s the attacking talisman of his team. Even though he has a mixed bag of fixtures in the next five gameweeks, he’s definitely one of the most consistent strikers at the moment, so he can’t be overlooked. Next up is a home match against Degerfors IF, a team that has conceded only 7 goals this season despite some very poor defensive displays. Given the opposition, he is set to extend his fine form.

    Some intereresting picks. Selmani will hopefully start a run of scoring, but maybe more is needed for his price? Birmancevic is a nice differential, but playtime is a concern, as you mention.

      Selmani is due some goals indeed! Birmancevic is probably worth the risk given he faces Orebro! Good luck!

      I did a straight swap for Berget for a one week punt before a wildcard over the summer break. Was also tempted by Chilufya against Gothenburg and Toby Heintz against Varberg.

      Ortmark seems to be a steal. Hope he can capitalise his chances. Björnstrom will come good if he keeps that wingback role. I agree with sausages: Berget is a great replacement for AC. He’s got goals in him.

    Thanks for another great article. I’m hoping Birmancevic will get more guaranteed playing time with Christiansen and Rieks injuries. I got him in last week and confident he and Berget will return against a leaky Orebro defence (hoping to build on an extraordinary week 7 where I scored 122 (-8)!)

      I’m glad you enjoyed it! Discussing Allsvenskan fantasy is always a pleasure. Congrats on that monster score! I’m tempted to take an extra hit and get one of those two! Good luck!

    Anybody else looking to do a -16 or -20 and go for a Hail Mary to finish off the season?

    1FT: Sana to Chilufya. It was only a matter of time until Chilly returned to my eleven, returning well since I sold him and certainly capable of excelling beyond this. Fantastic on the ball, ambitious dribbling/shooting, & central/advanced positioning all combine for an almost perfect fantasy asset. My only issue is the tendency for DIF to sub a winger at HT if struggling (both having suffered this unfortunate fate now), however this is nothing in comparison to his up side. I also like the look of Amoo (seem to be saying this every week), Ring (KFF), Ortmark (IKS), Kralj (DEG) & Ondrejka (IFE), & Rakip/Nalic (for an MFF punt without AC).

    GW8: Nilsson Säfqvist, (Påhlsson);
    Witry (K), Nilsson, Knudsen, J.Larsson, (Strand);
    Chilufya, Hussein, AC, Kpozo, (Carlén);
    Stefanelli, Colak (V), (Vilhelmsson).

    Although 'Park the Bus' somewhat underwhelmed, performances from Colak & Nilsson turned a chance wasted into an opportunity taken in DGW7: 107 points and up to 10th overall. Witry takes the armband this week after a huge debate between him & Colak. GBG had looked improved at the back in weeks prior, however I wasn't impressed with them at either end in GW7 (hence why Sana is gone; Yakob's inclusion & Hamsik taking over set-pieces further diminish his appeal). DIF's defensive stability (although exposed by crosses frequently against HAM), Witry's home tendency to rack up BAPS, & his set-piece/penalty appeal all push the argument for Witry (K) further.

    However, OSK looked back to their worst vs. DEG: although conceding some pretty great goals, other moments of defensive collapse could've seen them lose by a much greater deficit had Degerfors (Edvardsen, aside) been on their A-game. Without AC, likely out after suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury vs. IFE, Colak just does not appeal the same to me. MFF looked wasteful, shooting aimlessly without much attempt to create big chances without AC, and on their day I think they could have dropped points here. Only time will tell. Chilufya, Stefanelli, Berget & Selmani are my other favorites for the armband. Good luck all!

      First of all congrats on your rank. Great job. Most of your decisions have been well-informed and very sensible. The lack of AC will definitely impact that Malmo side. The good news for them is that they face Orebro, but an upset wouldn’t surprise me. Orebro seems to be that unpredictable side that can shock big teams.

      I like your transfers. Selling Chilufya ahead of Bark has been cost me some points. So bringing back it’s not crazy or sideways.

      I agree with you. A Djurgårdens asset deserves the armband. Witry, Chili and Eriksson the names that come to my mind. Good luck and keep up the good work, man! I’ll be tracking your progress closely!

        Thank you man, hopefully I can scrape through GW8 without leaving myself with an ugly red arrow to stare at through the Euro-break!

        Chilufya (K) is something I keep considering this year, but that tiny bit of doubt re. minutes has kept me away. That said, he's got a mega-haul in him, it's just a case of when. Best of luck mate, keep up the great work with the articles - hugely appreciated.

      Another great score mate. Well done. Cracking start. Torn on captaincy this week. The sensible choice for my team is Witry like you but I may take a cheeky punt on Koukaku this week. Good luck for the gameweek

        I feel like every GW this season there's going to be a fear of not captaining Witry, so if you have good reason to justify going against him it seems to have huge potential profit. That said, it obviously could hurt badly also.

        This is where I'd usually give a clear opinion, but with only 7 weeks experience I'll leave that to someone else! Cheers for the kind words man, good luck - onwards and upwards!

          I think you’re right. Am going with Witry which is the sensible thing to do give his EO and how heavily he can score. Good luck for the game week. Hopefully I can start to reel you in!

    I have already taken a (-4). Does it make any sense to take another (-4) to remove a likely twopointer (Boakye) for someone like Birmancevic? I leaning much against it, but willing to hear the argument for. A bit marginal topic, I know.

    Scout Picks for GW8 are in!

    How are things ahead of the long break? Any last punts? Are you activating the WC after deadline?

      Two transfers for me this GW – a -4 for Sana and Christiansen to Berget and Chilufya. I could have kept Sana and just done Christiansen to Berget, but Chilufya was too tempting not to bring in (again).

          Transferring out Chilufya in GW 4 was a mistake, but at least I've got him back now. Hope it pays off!

      Just the one transfer for me, AC to Eriksson. Hoping that Djurgården do well going into the international break as I'm now tripled up on them and have the armband on Witry too!

      I'll hold off on activating the WC for now, wait and see what happens over the break.

      Are there any Allsvenskan favourites to keep an eye out for during the Euros? The only one I can think of is Seb Larsson.

      Good luck everyone!

    Your articles are great! You give good recommendations. I think Antonsson could be a good option compared to Selmani (he is too expensive). Also Bjornstom or Ortmark seem to be an option. Thanks for writing. I’m already a fan.

    Please could anyone share a good (ideally English-language) website on which I can find details of Allsvenskan injuries, suspensions etc.? Several times (last few seasons and again this season) I've picked players, only to find out after the GW has started that they're actually not available. For example this week I had two players in my team who are suspended but the Fantasy Allsvenskan site didn't have a warning flag on either of them until after the GW deadline.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

      This looks like the most reliable place for suspensions, Swedish FA site. Checks out with Castegren getting his third yellow and Le Roux being sent off in the game. Strange that the game's so slow to update that info if it's available. https://www.svenskfotboll.se/serier-cuper/avstangda/allsvenskan-herr-2021/88307/

      Injuries is probably a case of checking club websites and Twitter feeds (I use a list https://twitter.com/i/lists/1272592532141154313 ), Expressen and Aftonbladet which will also be useful to get ahead of any potential transfers.
