Chelsea v Man City: €30k to play for in FanTeam’s Champions League game

Sponsored by FanTeam

Chelsea v Manchester City: finally, a match involving the two clubs where we Fantasy managers don’t have to worry about Pep roulette or the equally impenetrable Tuchel tinkering.

The all-English UEFA Champions League final gets underway at 20:00 BST on Saturday night and with FanTeam’s Fantasy game for this humdinger, we can get to see the teamsheets before finalising our selections. Do you worst, Guardiola.

But the ability to see the starting XIs is not only the incentive: there is a prize pool of €30,000 on offer, with €10k going to the winner and money dished out to the leading 1,725 managers – and there are only 4,598 teams allowed in!

Not only that, entrants can simply check a box and duplicate their team to enter the Euro 2020 £1m Fantasy satellite, where there are 100 entry tickets up for grabs:

This Pursuit game is a five-a-side Fantasy tournament with a twist, where players are handicapped with plus/minus bonus points according to how good (or bad) a performance is expected from them.

For example, Ederson begins the final on -0.24 bonus points to reflect City’s favourite tag status and the Brazilian’s own uncanny ability to keep a clean sheet. His opposite number, the Blues’ Edouard Mendy, is, by contrast, handed a +0.52 start.

HOW TO PLAY: A BASIC GUIDE

Let’s boil it down to the basics: Fantasy managers need to pick five players in total, with no limitation on how many Chelsea or City assets you can select.

FanTeam managers can pick up to:

  • 1 Goalkeeper
  • 5 Defenders
  • 5 Midfielders
  • 3 Forwards

There are no player prices, so you can stock up on as many of the premium assets as you so wish – although the ‘better’ players with the more appealing fixtures tend to be the ones more heavily handicapped.

Captains get double playing and bonus points, while vice-captains are awarded 1.5 times their returns.

There are two other aspects worthy of mention at this point:

  • Stacking Penalty: If you decide to double up (or more!) on goalkeepers/defenders from the same team, you’ll receive one fewer clean sheet point for every extra player you select.
  • Safety Net: There is no bench or autosubs in Pursuit mode. Instead, any selected player who fails to start will be replaced by a team-mate from the same club, in the same position, with an equal or cheaper price.

SCORING SYSTEM

FPL managers looking for a way to make their knowledge pay will have no trouble picking up FanTeam‘s familiar scoring system.

Think of it as FPL without the bonus points, with a few other exceptions – detailed in the graphic above.

welp here's my Euro team, i'm avoiding players from the group of death for now as the matches except against Hungary are too difficult to call, also i'd like to have Grealish but i have no idea if he'll even play, so he's out for now too, i quite like this team though

    Cakir
    Zinchenko, Kjaar, Alioski
    KDB.Perisic, Torres, Insigne(c)
    Lukaku, Depay, Wind

    Sommer, Tierney, Boril, Nego

cheers, i was thinking about that, but then i realized i'd only need them if my other captain choices fail, as i don't think i'd risk switching capo's if one of them scored 10 or more x 2

Despite the fact that ManCity are the favourites, almost half of my colleagues back Chelsea to win this... I'm hoping for a Pep masterclass today

Hoping that this seasons game is declared null and void and both teams banned from Europe for next few years.

City to sell Sterling and Mahrez to raise funds for Grealish + Kane.

If they pull that off it will be huge upgrade,KDB + Grealish behind Kane is insane.

Kane could get easy 30+ goals with City possession and probably penalties.

Selling sterling is good but mahrez is just too good to let go. He is 30 so city wint get much by selling him and id put him above Grealish atm

Best to get the best out of whatever years he has lefr

He is among the best 5-6 wide forwards in the world across the past five years , I’m sure he would have plenty of suitors . He would fit in well at Bayern f x

Across the last 5 years is the thing, he is only 26, but seems to be in decline, in relative terms at least.
Utd will probably pay £100 million for him and try to present it as a coup while City use the cash to buy Kane.

Now that it’s quieter in here and before the Euro rush I was interested to get peoples opinions. Last season was the first time we had a proper fantasy game for the Scottish league, which was mostly similar to FPL but with a few different rules. I was wondering if people thought they were good rules or not?

    1. When a player in your starting lineup doesn’t play, rather than get the first off your bench, you get the highest scorer on your bench subbed in.
    2. No transfers carry over, you get one transfer each week and if you don’t use it you lose it.
    3. You can use multiple chips in the same GW (eg. Wildcard, bench boost and TC all at once!)

Personally I hated rule 2 but the others were interesting to me.

3 would be interesting, you'd see some 300pt + dgw scores

The interesting thing about 1 is that people learned to sign a cheap player who never plays, start him, and put your two weakest starters on the bench. That way you were more likely to bench your lowest scorer each week.

Also vice captain more important as irrespective of whether captain plays you get double points for goals for attacker or clean sheet for defender which I thought was good idea albeit if captain does not play vice does not replace.

Yeah the captain was strange one. I pretty much just had a rangers player as vice every week to guarantee double clean sheet points.

Did you play? How did you get on?

Yes played it - ended up on 2,104 points so 522 out of 47,150 overall.

Didn’t give it so much thought or time as fpl which was maybe a good thing! But enjoyed it. 3 Rangers defenders most of season and like you vc on one
