GW 12 Ones to Watch – Allsvenskan Fantasy Additions

This time I’ve decided to twist the plot a bit. I’ve selected four players who have returned to the league. They have already been added to the game and all of them are still under-the-radar picks who can produce big points over the next GWs.

Bjørn Paulsen (6.5)

Paulsen – one of the fan favourite players in recent times – has returned to his old club after a two-year spell at German side FC Ingolstadt. In his first season at Hammarby, he scored 8 goals and gave 3 assists in 29 appearances. Such a stellar season made him win Hammarby Player of the Year. The next season he delivered and showed his consistency, particularly as a fantasy asset, for it must be said he’s a special player due to his versatility. He can be deployed as centre-back, right-back, right-midfield and many other positions, which makes him one of a kind in modern football. It remains to be seen whether he will be deployed in many positions this season, but the upside is there and he’s shown what he’s capable of already this season. Against Orebrö, he had two shots and accumulated 2 defensive bonuses.

Oscar Wendt (7.0)

After a long spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach ––where he spent 10 years–– Wendt returns to play for his old club: IFK Göteborg. The Blåvitt have been missing some creativity down the left wing since Viktor Wenersson left the club to join Belgian side RKV Malinas. While it is true the veteran left-back lacks some pace now, Wendt will add experience to the side and, more importantly, quality, particularly when it comes to crossing. Against Mjällby he had a decent match even when Göteborg conceded two goals. He put in 3 accurate crosses and gave 2 key passes. Once he develops more chemistry with his teammates, which will not take long based on his history, he will rack up assists and, why not, score a banger or two. The visit to the Varberg Energi Arena sounds like the perfect time to bet on Wendt. Varbergs BoIS FC keep on leaking goals and they have exposed defensive frailties on the right wing, particularly when Adama Fofana (4.9) is not on the pitch. Wendt can take advantage of this and deliver an attacking return.

Marcus Berg (10.5)

After spells in five different countries, veteran striker Berg has returned to his roots. He showed his influence with immediate effect as he scored on his debut in front of home fans against Mjällby. In a week in which captaincy is likely to be split, Berg is an enticing option as he faces Varbergs BoIS FC, who have the third worst defence in the league, having conceded 21 goals, 11 of them at home. Out of all strikers in the league, he’s probably the one with the highest ceiling in GW12 given the fixture and the fact he’s likely to be on penalties after Tobias Sana (8.5) missed a penalty against Elfsborg in GW9. He sits in just 2.5% of squads, which makes him an exciting differential captaincy alternative.

Nahir Besara (8.5)

It seems that it was only yesterday when Besara was banging the goals in for Orebrö. After a relatively short and unsuccessful spell with UAE club Al-Wahda FC, the Swedish attacker has returned to a side that has scored only 2 goals in their last 4 matches. Orebrö are in terrible form having lost their last 5 matches, so the arrival of Besara is nothing but timely. From a fantasy point of view, Besara was one of the most powerful assets due to his explosiveness. He delivered 16 attacking returns in 29 matches. A home encounter with AIK can be difficult for attacking Orebrö assets. However, AIK have conceded at least 1 goal in every away match so far this season, so signing him can get you ahead of the curve. With a very favourable run of fixtures, Besara can be one of the most powerful differentials in the game with an ownership of just 0.2%.

    Knudsen replacement needed:

Great picks, Gerardo. I already have Wendt, otherwise he would have been my Knudsen replacement. I already have Witry, Strand, Otieno. Paulsen and Jeahze are tempting, but I do not quite fancy their next game vs Norrköping. Also, Hammarby have been playing midweek, which lessens their appeal. I welcome suggestions to replace Knudsen!

Is it a short term fix you are looking for (ie are you playing your first wildcard in the next couple of weeks). I’m no expert (my first season playing and I am working purely off stats and the brilliant articles here) but I might say Kack given he has Kalmar and then plays Hacken who I assume will be in midweek European action. 6 clean sheets and ok bonus return. I’m sure others on here with far more knowledge will be able to offer up a more decent alternative though!

Yeah, it is for short term as I will play my Wildcard in GW 14-15. I am already loaded up with three Djurgården othwerwise Käck would be one of the key potential replacements. Thanks!

Not really liking anyone other than the ones you’ve mentioned this week, I think Paulsen can get something vs Norrköping even if the clean looks unlikely.

Not a great week for defenders beforehand at least!

I went with Paulsen in the end, more like a fun punt before wildcarding. I am not expecting much, but it will make the games more entertaining to follow.

… and so it proved to be! Nice goal by Paulsen to win the game (but tough for me as a IFK Norrköping supporter).

Haha well fantasy has started to take some uncomfortable precedence at times for me too 😉

I’ve had Paulsen for the two weeks he’s been available now and it’s been a great run that I’m not expecting will end anytime soon. CS will continue to elude them most of the time but I see quite a few goals coming in from Paulsen this season as well!

How are you dealing with a tricky captain week with some potential rotation on the cards for the clubs involved in European qualifiers?

It is tricky, I’ve been swapping between Colak and Witry, but I am leaning more towards Colak (K) in spite over concerns over his playing time. Witry away does not inspire me with confidence.

Agreed, I’m on Eriksson but a bit tempted by Edvardsen tbh. Colak a no brainier I think, despite playing time reduced he’s doing superb.

Cheers! It is that niggling doubt that makes me hesitate going with Colak (K). Hopefully there might be leaks, but not counting on it.

Minor fitness concern though so unless confirmed all good ahead of the deadline I’d be a bit wary

Great article again Gerardo! Superb stuff mate 🙂

I’m already invested in Paulsen and have half an eye on Wendt, not decided yet.
Besara is 100% coming in but might be in 1-2 weeks time for me.

Hello everyone, I have a benching dilemma: bench one of Amoo and Strand. Currently Amoo is benched in spite of the better fixture he has due to concerns over playing time.

I reckon Amoo off the bench is a better option than Strand (at least that’s how I’m doing it myself).
It’s not a given he’s benched either, could start if Accam still is away for personal reasons like he was in midweek

      1. General Nuisance

Yeah, it is that second-guessing that makes the case for benching Amoo.

With Colak out of the squad, the whole Amoo vs Strand benching debate became academic.

Anything here worth a hit? I’m likely to WC next GW, and could take a punt as my team has a disappointing OR of 3782. Only have 1.7 in the bank though.

    Jansson
    Witry - Paulsen - Nilsson - Strand
    Chilufya - Eriksson - Ludwigson - Bojanic
    Edvardsen - Stefanelli
    (Gal - Hellborg - Silverholt - Olsson)

No need for a hit. The team looks fine.

My worry with this team is that it doesn't pick up enough points, and that I might be looking at another red arrow. Not owning Colak and other players that have performed recently has really hurt the OR. At the same time, I don't have much funds to play around with either…

          • 8 Years

I see. Nilsson is perhaps the weakest link, so he could go. Not knowing how much in the bank, I am not sure the funds from N. Could cover the expense for Colak. Also, it would maybe create a benching dilemma (maybe Strand benched). Good luck!

I'm looking at a -8 if I want to bring in Colak unfortunately, so he's not an option this GW. Nilsson is indeed the weakest link in this team right now, but with Knudsen out, I had to prioritise finding a replacement for him instead. Maybe it's better to just avoid the hit anyway, hoping that the team won't fail to deliver again.

            Thanks for the feedback!

    Edvardsen - Adegbenro - Kouakou

Given the lack of double gameweeks, would you guys consider the "Attack Attack" chip this week if you had this frontline?

I think there could be better opportunities down the line with strikers chasing golden boot etc in the final GWs

Scout Picks for Blank GW13! Will you be able to fit a full 11 without taking a hit?

Who are you looking to captain this tricky week with Hammarby and Häcken possibly rotating, no Malmö or Elfsborg? I'd imagine Witry and Eriksson will have a high EO but there is certainly an opportunity this week for a bit of a more rogue captaincy shout, if you're feeling it.

Hi Petter, I built towards this over the last few weeks with hits so saving transfer this week, Will want to get a few Malmo and Elfsborg players over the coming weeks. XI on the pitch and one playing on the bench this week. And as I'm playing you in the Irish Times Samui H2H League this week I'm going Attack! Attack! on Kouakou, Edvardsen and Stefanelli. I'm sure there will be better weeks to play this Chip but couldn't resist it.

      Good luck!

No hits for me this GW, as I’m playing a much needed WC. Haven’t decided on formation and all the players yet, but this is my current draft:

      Nilsson Säfqvist
      Strand - Witry - Wendt - Paulsen
      Bojanic - Ludwigson - Besara - Eriksson
      Kouakou - Edvardsen
      (Dryselius - Gustafsson - Stenmark - Lima)

As for the captaincy, I might play it safe and captain Witry again.

Looks good though I’d consider going with someone other than Strand or beefing up the bench as they blank

Yes, I forgot. I might want him in the long term, so I might just place him on the bench and play Gustafsson/Stenmark instead. I got 1.4m in the bank with this draft, so I could beef up the bench a bit. On the other hand, I might want to bring in a few Malmö assets after the blank, and I will likely need a bit of funds to do so.

Witry (K) likely for me. Not risking it, just hoping to make it through this GW with just 11 players available.

Been planning for this one so have a playing XI and one on the bench for this one and W/C next week. Hoping to get safely inside top 1,500 by the end of this one. My captain punt on Kouakou last week over Witry was a bit of a bust so going to go with Witry/Eriksson/Chilufya. 45 minutes to invent a three sided coin to toss! Good luck to all.

I am trying to get past this GW with having 11 players out and without hit. Low funds meant Matthews is welcomed to the team. The team is in need of a wildcard. Hoping Witry (K) is the safety net that will help this team scrape by without red arrows.

    Good luck, everyon!

Hi guys, is someone here playing Fantasy Bundesliga ( https://fantasy.bundesliga.de/ ) too? I know there is an extra article about the Bundesliga but there is so much FPL traffic there that my question will get lost ... So here's my question: I registered there, put my team together but when I try to chose my "Starplayers" for GW1 the site always tells me to register again. But that's not possible. Am I the only one with this problem? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks for helping if you play this game too 🙂
