Mark Sutherns’ latest FPL team draft for Gameweek 1

Fantasy Football Scout’s very own Mark Sutherns has been discussing his latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team draft with video regular Andy North over on our YouTube channel.

This is an exclusive for Premium Members – and there’ll be plenty more to come in 2021/22.

Mark will be filming one video just for subscribers every week throughout the upcoming campaign, so sign up via this link in order to see them.

FPL pre-season: Trossard hits hat-trick from wing-back role 1

In this first instalment, the FPL BlackBox co-host and Andy chat about Jack Grealish (£8.0m), Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Danny Ings (£8.0m) before launching into a discussion on their latest drafts.

Mark explains his 3-5-2 set-up, premium midfielder choices and omission of Bruno Fernandes (£12.5m).

Andy throws his own selections under the spotlight, explaining his preference for a 3-4-3 and inclusion of Harvey Barnes (£7.0m).

Lukaku is something of a flat-track bully, so I'll bring him in when there's a flat track ahead. Palace aside, Chelsea's opening 6 fixtures very much aren't that.

I've read the same as you. We have a number of first teamers who are late back due to the Euros. Mount, Chilwell, James, Jorginho etc.

Sounds like they're not going to be rushed back, since we have a strong squad to cover the first week.

Expect them back in GW2 or so perhaps? I'm just making an educated guess based on what I'm reading but the likes of Chilly & Mount might not play GW1 basically.

I've been using Ben Crellin's transfer planner and - as it stands - I have room for a GW1 only punt. The only caveat is that they need to be either a midfielder costing £6.5m or less or a £4.5m or less defender. Which are the best options around those price points for only the first week (they'll be gone after that)?

Leaning towards Trossard/Saka/Bailey (would mean triple Villa attack for first week) or Amartey.

Why do you want to sell them after 1 GW?

Get someone who is good for that GW and others around it, in case your plan has to change.

Not sure I'd encourage a 4.5m defender punt, so go with the midfielder?

Benrahma looked good today. Townsend ominously on set pieces despite Everton looking pish. Buendia/Bailey. Raphinha if you don't already have him, though he's not a punt.

      1. Obi-1 Kenobi-0
        • 8 Years
        2 years, 8 months ago

So as it stands Raphinha is first on my bench for GW1, and I don't want to make a transfer until GW4.

To save "wasting" a transfer which will potentially disappear into the void, I'm thinking that means I can probably start with somebody else for GW1 only, and bring in Raph for GW2. I've essentially planned for a wildcard in time for GW7 and feel my 1-6 plan is fairly solid, with plenty of flexibility if stuff goes wrong.

"Chelsea will play a friendly against Weymouth the day after our 1st Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

The game will involve players who returned late to pre-season, meaning Mount, James, Chilwell, Jorginho and Emerson will likely miss the Super Cup & our first PL game."

This solidifies it for me. Picking a team for 3 GWs, full of punts, then wildcarding.

Not sure whether to play it slightly different this year, load up on some teams and do a wildcard gameweek 3 or 4 when transfers are done and more starting 11s are assured. With that being said my first draft is based on this. Loading up with a view to a certain wildcard early doors, thoughts please...

          Typos can be so crazy!

I like it. Pretty fun, and good cover for when players miss out. Just don't really get the keeper situation. Better to have money in the bank than waste it like that imo!

    Guys...would you rather:

    1) Have Ruben dias + benrahma, or a 4.0 def + grealish/foden?

    2) Pick Wilson over Watkins or no?

    3) Bench Wilson, Toney or Benrahma for gw1?

    Thank you in advance!

Cant believe how many people have cold feet on Mahrez over one game lol

This is the most nailed he's been in about 2 seasons under Pep. He's also probably the most nailed attacker in the CIty team atm

7 years on here and you don't know that if player scores he is transfered in and if player blanks he's out the same day ?

After KdB, Gundogan and Grealish, perhaps.

Yeah exactly. I know plenty didn't like him as a pick and that's fair enough but it's silly that those who were confident in him yesterday are now put off by one bad showing.

Unless Kane goes to City of Lukaku to Chelsea, I'm playing 4-5-1. Crap forward options.

I wouldn't necessarily say that...at mid price the options are seriously good... Antonio especially is killing it and is completely looking sharp in preseason...so is Watkins.. although he may play on the left wing from now on

    Hi all.

    Finally getting stuck in.

    Veltman + Son

    Digne + Mahrez?

Note Veltman will be playing with Shaw + TAA.

    A) Raphinha+Stones
    B) Havertz+White

Harrison had almost the same points per match to Raphinha and is 0.5 cheaper...I'd suggest get him if you really want a Leeds player, and then pick Ruben dias as he is more nailed on than stones

Brest manager Michel Der Zakarian on the prospect of Messi joining PSG: "We say that we have a s**t league, but if we manage to bring in a player like that it would be exceptional. I'm not going to be polite here, but he gives me a hard-on."
