Benitez provides injury updates on Richarlison, Coleman and Pickford

The most-played fixture in English football history, Aston Villa v Everton, brings Saturday’s Gameweek 5 action to a close.

Kick-off at Villa Park is at 17:30 BST.

Everton were already without the sidelined Dominic Calvert-Lewin for tonight’s match but Rafael Benitez has been hit by a further three injury blows in the run-up to the trip to Villa, with Jordan Pickford, Richarlison and Seamus Coleman all absent.

“With the tackle of Tarkowski, Richarlison was complaining about his knee during the week and he couldn’t do it.

“Pickford has a problem with his shoulder, he couldn’t do it.

“Seamus Coleman. At the end of the training session, he was a little bit tight, he felt his hamstring.

At the moment we think it would be 2/3 weeks minimum [for Richarlison, Pickford and Coleman] and after we will see.” – Rafael Benitez

Asmir Begovic, Alex Iwobi and Salomon Rondon start in place of that absent trio but there have been no other unenforced changes from the win over Burnley on Monday.

Dean Smith makes one alteration from Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Chelsea, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez returning to the starting XI in place of Jed Steer after completing his 10-day quarantine period in Croatia.

Emiliano Buendia is also back but only makes the bench.

GAMEWEEK 5 LINE-UPS

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Cash, Targett, Konsa, Mings, Luiz, McGinn, Watkins, Tuanzebe, Ings, Ramsey

Everton XI: Begovic, Keane, Allan, Gray, Digne, Mina, Townsend, Doucoure, Iwobi, Godfrey, Rondon

Hi...just started to tentatively constantly gw8 wildcard - catching city and Chelsea fixture swings....

If you were to go with 3 from each who would they be?

Both teams seem to be rotation prone!

City......dias cancelo and one of grealish / torres

Chelsea ...lukaku mount and one of james rudiger

    Thanks

      Dias Grealish Lukaku Rudiger ...

      Next ones: Cancelo James/Azpi

I wouldnt triple up or even double up. If i have to dias, cancelo, ederson, rudiger, mendy, lukaku

      Dias Cancelo Grealish
      Lukaku Mount Rudiger/James

Backline of TAA Dias Cancelo Rudiger/James might be overkill though

Can go for a punt on Jesus or Torres

I'd avoid City, unless you're going Dias or Ederson.

You have a higher roof with Dias but Ederson is always going to play. You would be gutted if Dias was rotated for some Pep related reason.

That being said though, Mendy would be the GK I'd use so you'd probably just have to risk Dias, nobody will better you on that anyway.

Just seen how well Mendy has done so far this season, just a shame we can’t get a backup for 4.0 just incase he gets a confined Covid positive result and has to miss a week. That’s his only real drawback

      I am looking at
      3 Chelsea -Lukaku Rüdiger James
      2 City -Cancelo Torres

Rudiger, James cancelo plus taa I assume....so that's 4 at the back?

Ill always prefer 3 at the back I think....

Dias, KDB, Ederson. On a budget could just go Dias, Grealish and skip the third.

Lukaku, Rudiger, Ziyech. Double def vs double atk is the question mark here, some would choose a wingback over Ziyech. But the wingbacks are all going to rotate.

hmmm Jota + Traore --> Sarr + Gray (-4) is really tempting me.... Is this too kneejerky?

Jota coming up against two really good defences, Traore is misfiring, but does have Newcastle in 2 GWs. Sarr + Gray have the best two fixtures next week, and honestly dont really rate the United defence so far (too prone to a mistake)

Opens up Ronny - Rom - Bamford/Antonio frontline for GW7 with the extra cash

Yes it is. Jota nearly scored today.missed the open net. He might score next game.
Sarr is a good choice, but these mid ranged players Don't bang every week. Otherwise he would be 9 m playing for city

Jota has blanked the last 3. Jimmy cannot hit a barn yard door and you refer to the budgets who are actually performing?

These are kneejerk transfers 'THIS' week. Sarr last week didn't have a shot on goal and tons said Watford look awful. Today scores a brace and there's hype around him. Patience, that's all...

      • 9 Years

      I'm looking at Jota + Traore ➡ Sarr + Gallagher for a -4.

So similar, and I don't think it's kneejerky tbh. If Firmino is contention I'm done with Jota, and Traore is a worse option if Lage sticks with 442.

    5. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years

Sarr isn’t kneejerk - like Raphinha he is a genuinely classy player who is too good for the club he’s at & could go to a top 6 side easily - and he also has the holy grail of penalties & is the undisputed jewel in attacking crown of his club

The fact that he has Newcastle & Leeds in his next two makes him a no brainer rather than a kneejerk (check how he did in his last game vs Liverpool too)

Gray though I wouldn’t be queuing up to get tbh

    6. Karhumies
      • 11 Years
      2 years, 7 months ago

GW7 Jota -> Ziyech. Keep Traore. Sarr is only good for GW5-7 so you don't want a hit for him for 2 GWs and then you need exit strategy as well.

If you want to swap Traore for something GW6, Fornals vs Leeds looks promising. Gray is not that great with DCL and Richarlison missing but since it's Norwich def we are talking about even he might haul like Sarr did this GW.

To the mods - if you could ask the website devs, would it be possible to have a notification feature on the website when someone replies to either your comment or a comment you've replied to?

Would be pretty cool instead of having to go via the profile.

Haven't used the profile method, but i use email notifications when i have the mobile version open on my phone and have the 'notify me of replies' box ticked. It's clunkier than the function being right in the site itself i suppose, but it's a quick click on my phone's notification screen to go right to any reply i get.

Heavily considering getting Harvey Barnes for the next gameweek.
Similar to sarr leading to this gameweek, his stats have been poor but might just have found his touch in Europa league, and Napoli are no pushovers.

Haha. I remember the ginger sub!

Getting Jota in for Tsi for a -4 has been a bad move, but no one would have predicted it

As a Palace fan, I thought the result of 3-0 was harsh, not like on paper. Jota wasn't unlucky today, except missing from a yard out, but was away to Leeds. Maybe Jota is livelier away from home.

“In terms of team news, Said Benrahma got a knock on his knee when he came on against Dinamo Zagreb,” Moyes told the press (whufc.com).

“But apart from that the squad are mostly fully available.”

Honestly I’m not even sure what the template looks like right now. People went a lot of different ways to get Ronaldo.

It’s an interesting one, Villa playing better vs man utd and Brentford are not conceding many for Salah captained. It’s a reasonable shout

That annoying feeling when you chose Gray over Sarr on your wildcard.

My brother chose to go with BOTH Gray and Townsend! So… you know… could be worse

Can't believe the Salah, Lukaku, Ronaldo teams are winning at the moment. Do many 7m midfielder duds under performing. Drinking for a Greenwood brace tomorrow to buck the trend

Famous last words if I say yeah. Traore might be worth a chance for a few more weeks.

That being said there was some good analysis about his form dropping off after GW2, I don't know what he was like today.

He had one really good chance that hit the bar. Besides that, every cross was over hit and he lost the ball in a lot of bad spots. If he’s ever going to be effective he’s going to need to start connecting with Semedo, rather than just running at three defenders.
