Scout Picks

FPL Gameweek 8 Scout Picks built on Man City triple-up

As they prepare to face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, three Manchester City players form the spine of our Gameweek 8 Scout Picks.

After Sam, Az, Neale and Tom submitted their Scout Squad selections earlier this week, we have chosen our best players ahead of tomorrow’s 11.00 BST deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and come in at £82.9m, just under our £83.0m budget.

GOALKEEPER

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

After a promising second half of last season yielded nine clean sheets from 23 games, three of which arrived in the final five, Arsenal have conceded just once in the four games since Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) was installed as first-choice goalkeeper. During that time, they have kept three clean sheets and given up just two big chances, fewer than any other Premier League side, while Ramsdale’s +1.10 expected goals (xG) prevented total ranks fourth amongst all goalkeepers so far. Now, the England stopper will be keen to build on that against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace on Monday.

DEFENDERS

Wolves City dugout

With the news that he is available for Saturday’s early kick-off following injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) is clearly one of the best defender picks on offer in Gameweek 8, with potential for a clean sheet and attacking returns. A possible route to points may come via set-pieces, with opponents Watford allowing 2.7 xG from dead-ball situations so far this season, while they also rank 18th for crosses conceded from their left-flank. Given that Alexander-Arnold’s 17 successful crosses and 2.56 expected assists (xA) are both league-leading totals amongst all defenders in FPL, he could be set for another big week.

Raphinha>Foden or Jota? Or just save transfer and start ESR? Could do Rudiger>Taa aswell
    Sanchez
    Rudiger, Cancelo, Livra(Marcal)
    Salah(c), Raph, Benrahma, Greenw
    Ronaldo, Antonio, Toney

Normally I would suggest save but TAA is a necessity. If you were planning a defender from CTY, CHS and TAA, the perhaps it is worth keeping hold of Rudiger.

      A) more solid, less rotation risk. Depends on the rest of your team. I had a similar problem and went with Dias and Mount over Foden and double Chelsea defence.

Thinking about it Foden is likely rested with the Club Brugge game 3 days later.

Man City have 13 midfielders and 10 viable picks in their squad.

They've got too much to choose from.

        Yeah.

It's an odd one when the better strategy in this game is to avoid one of the best squads in the league.

I guess fpl is a victim of Man City success and riches.

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          2 years, 6 months ago

          It’s not really Man City’s riches - it’s more their manager’s philosophy

Pep has been steadily destroying the attacking side of that team for FPL purposes since he walked through the door

The only time they become viable is when an injury or availability bottleneck visibly & clearly forces his hand

Rotational managers with fully fit squads are usually poison for FPL - always have been

If City had a manager who liked more stability then we’d have great picks from City overnight … and if Pep was at any other club, they’d also be a disaster for FPL

    4. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

100% this - city are the FPL a equivalent of a Venus fly trap, perfectly homed through billions of year of evolution to attract its prey

And even if you did guess which 5 of the 47 attackers he chooses to start, there’s zero guarantee that

      (a) City will smash Burnley

      or

      (b) the midfielder you’ve picked will be as/more involved in the smashing as the literally dozens of other fantastic nailed FPL adoptions out there

It’s true - If you listen very closely when you’re on the “transfers” screen with a city mid in your lineup - you can actually hear the vibrations of the jaws waiting to snap around you

Some flys like to live dangerously. Hearing the snap, feeling death reach out to them only to miss with his grasp and then bask in their own magnificence when they see Foden start and score a hattie.

              • 14 Years

The top 4 overall ranks have not had 1 Man City player in their squads.

Torres was almost picked gw4 but then ditched on a WC.

OR5 has had Dias and a couple of others in the first few weeks.

Very interesting stat - but not a surprising one

Give me 40 or 50 goals shared between 2 or 3 players at a more stable team, than 90 or 100 goals shared between 9 or 10 players at City any day of the week

Absolutely do not take out TAA, he's worth every penny. If you're looking to move money from the defense then I would downgrade Dias or Azpi, both have very low attacking potential

Mbeumo vs Townsend. Which one would you prefer for your 4th mid and why?

I have Alonso, Rudiger & Raph. If all these don’t play I will have Brownhill coming on. Would you spend -4 somewhere? Few options-

    A) Rudiger to TAA
    B) Raph to Foden/Grealish
    C) Brownhill to 6.3m
    D) Accept it

    Any other ideas welcomed
