This week’s episode focuses on the biggest development of the week in Romelu Lukaku‘s (£11.6m) injury, discussing the best replacements for the Belgian as well as the points potential of Kai Havertz (£8.1m) when neither Lukaku or Timo Werner (£8.6m) are available.

Additionally, the pair talk about the emotional rollercoaster of owning a Chelsea defender, before they both reveal their Gameweek 9 line-ups.

I think people may be over-emphasising how bad United are likely to be defensively against Liverpool.

They've been woeful recently. But the main source of their defensive issues has been their inability to deal with defensive transition. Going into the game against West Ham they had been counter attacked more than any other team in the league and nothing I've seen from them since suggested that has stopped being their main problem defensively.

However, against Liverpool the dynamic will be different as instead of facing a weaker team they're expected to dominate they'll be facing a stronger team they will likely park a bus against and counter. In that scenario their current main defensive frailty becomes less of an issue. Essentially they'll be taking the same approach that saw the grind out clean sheets against top opponents last season, with the same players as last season.

Not saying they won't concede or that Salah won't score but a straight read that the current dynamic in their team will continue is off, imo.

I think you have to factor in how pumped up they'll be too and how much 75k going nuts makes a difference.

Was it last time they played against Liverpool at OT that Liverpool needed a late equaliser? Rashford opened the scoring I recall. The narrative in the run up was very similar and it ended up being very even. The big difference there is that Salah didn't play in that one, though.

Like I said, I'm not saying Liverpool won't score anyway. Just that you shouldn't expect the United defence to be as porous as they their recent form might suggest they'd be, as the likely dynamic of this game will shift play away from a lot of the defensive weaknesses we've seen recently.

      Salah is salah

Sure United are most vulnerable on the counter but there's plenty of moments where they just have brain fades at the back, leave a man unmarked etc.

This was what I was worried about until Liverpool put 3 past Atletico who are the best in the world at parking the bus and Salah scored 2. Liverpool seem to be set up a lot more attacking and all Salah needs is 1 chance with the form he’s in.

    6. ZeBestee
      • 9 Years

Agreed 100%. It's concerning though that this season their defensive mistakes have been exposed more often than before. I think Utd have got an amazing individual players, but thoroughly lack team work in both attack and defence hence their recent mistakes. They will still try and play defensively but this time they will be caught out like never before, imo. Can't see concentration for 90 min from them as per their previous games.

    7. pingissimus
      • 5 Years

Fair analysis - Liverpool scoring first and early could change that dynamic a fair bit.

Personally expecting something quite high scoring but the one goal non-spectacular is definitely a possibility. Quite often a fairly drab game after all.

I hear you, but that’s not what has happened in recent United v Liverpool fixtures. Liverpool aren’t really a side you can sit back against and expect to win. They are more beatable by attacking them. I think United are going to win 3-2.

No I don't think anyone can be sure. Its nothing more than a punt. I think if you have the FTs and bench to accomodate it then its fine, otherwise I wouldn't kill myself to get him. Most likely be a 3,2,1 or something from these three matches.

In terms of a punt for the next couple games.
