Chelsea v Spurs team news: Alonso, Royal, Reguilon + Moura benched

Sunday’s Premier League action continues at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea host Tottenham Hotspur in the final match before the winter break.

Kick-off is at 16:30 GMT.

Thomas Tuchel makes two changes for Chelsea, as Malang Sarr and Mateo Kovacic come in for Marcos Alonso and N’Golo Kante, both of whom drop to the bench.

As a result, it looks like a 4-2-2-2 formation for the Blues, the system they rolled out in both recent EFL Cup wins over Spurs.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte hands Steven Bergwijn a start after his midweek brace, as he replaces Lucas Moura.

Eric Dier, Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon also feature in the XI, with Emerson Royal, Sergio Reguilon and Oliver Skipp all substitutes.

None of Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele or Dele Alli make the matchday squad.

GAMEWEEK 23 LINE-UPS

Chelsea XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger, Sarr, Jorginho, Kovacic, Ziyech, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Lukaku

Subs: Bettinelli, Alonso, Kante, Chalobah, Niguez, Havertz, Barkley, Pulisic, Werner

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Doherty, Sanchez, Dier, Davies, Sessegnon, Tanganga, Hojbjerg, Winks, Bergwijn, Kane

Subs: Gollini, Reguilon, Rodon, Gil, Royal, Moura, Skipp, White, Scarlett

Not a push. A hand in the back with no force and Thiago milked it

Is Coutinho a good pick? I have not seen any of the Villa matches lately.

Does he have a higher ceiling than Raphinha? If money is no issue who would you rather have?

C all day long, in great form. Coutinho has barely played football in the past 3 years

I also would probably get Raph, just pulled the WC button this GW.

But I just checked Raph point history since the beginning, he very often scores but never more than 7/8 points.

Probably would avoid Martinelli at this stage with the blanks coming up, both A and C are good options and might have the double against each other next GW

I don't mind having him actually with decent bench cover. But I think Tierny is a better pick from Arsenal with much higher ceiling and cheaper

      It's a good question.

People tend to buy a player after he has shown form, rather than before. I'd back Coutinho to do well over his fixture run. Raphina doesn't have as good of fixtures as I originally believed. Martinelli a solid pick as well, despite the blanks

I would go with the one who has consistently proven to be a very dependable asset *this season*, not from four years ago

Fair. Fixtures are so so, no double digit hauls, and lack of finishers to pick out with his chances created. He'll likely be in my team soon but I don't think it's that clear cut.

Thiago Silva threw himself to the ground and he's considered to be "using all his experience" but if a striker did that in the opposition box to win a pen they're labeled a cheat.

In the 90s there as an influx of foreign players and foreign managers and it improved the EPL into the leading league we know and love.

About time the same approach was taken to referees. This is an issue that has been decades in the making, when grassroots has been in decline for so long, now you see that there isn't a single referee good enough for this league.

How many go to Qatar this winter? Probably none, just like the last world cup.

I have no City attackers. Should I get:

        a) Foden - good fixtures but Pep roulette
        b) Gallagher - nice fixtures coming up
        Got 8.1 to spend.

        Best 3 attackers to get?
Currently on Antonio, Watkins and Broja.

As a Coufal bencher, I’m desperate for Alonso to stay on the bench. That goal may have just helped my cause. Can’t see him bringing on Alonso to bring more defensive solidity and hold onto the 1-0

Conte clearly thought Tuchel will go with 4-2-2-2 as the Carabaos, that's why he shifted his to 4-4-2.But Tuchel also gone for new 4-3-3,means 3 v 2 CHE advantage in midfield. Mount+Kovacic dragging Winks-Hojberg to wing& overloading, shame they don't capitalise that so far.
