Scout Picks

FPL Gameweek 35 Scout Picks: Kane returns as one of three premium attackers

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 35 ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

The final selection is partly based on the Scout Squad consensus picks but midweek minutes, budget and updates from the pre-match press conferences are all factored in, too.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation this week and, as ever, are limited to £83.5m for our first XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always cherry-picked from the cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder or to make the budget up to £100m but rather to give some alternative, viable options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

GOALKEEPER

Notorious xG underachievers Brighton and Hove Albion have made a habit out of impressing neutrals while simultaneously flattering to deceive in the FPL world. And here we are again when we should know better, lured to the rocks by some impressing underlying numbers. Albion have delivered two clean sheets in five matches since the international break and turned in very solid showings against the two north London clubs and even Manchester City, who struggled to break the Seagulls down initially. One of the best teams in the division for expected goals on target conceded (xGOTC) since the resumption in play in Gameweek 31, Brighton will be facing a Wolves side who are bottom for xG in the same timeframe. With Bruno Lage’s side devoid of the creativity of Ruben Neves (£5.2m) and Daniel Podence (£5.5m), we back Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) this week.

A lot of mid level players that could disappoint on a 1/2 week view, but who also all have potential for big scores - so could work out. Are you leading or chasing?

      Decent
Seems like it's lacking some heavy hitters unless you want to perma-cap Salah, but maybe you have lower TV e.g. I could do Foden + Watkins to KDB + Pukki on that team

Home to Brentford, and Ronaldo is in better shape than Kane?

I've been on the fence about this and still am!

Stats/form wise all say Ronaldo - 8 goals vs. 1 goal in last 6 appearances for the two with CR7 taking 2x the shots in the box

But Brentford have been really solid, they've now held Spurs, West Ham to nil and Chelsea to one in their last 4. And Man Utd have been looking poor, lowest in the league in non-penalty xG over the last 4 games. Ronaldo has been finishing what he's getting amazingly, but the likes of Bruno are not creating much for him.

Leicester I see a lot of excitement about rotation due to ECL but then the back-line on the predicted line-ups: Justin - Amartey - Soyuncu - Thomas is actually still decent.

It's definitely not a clear cut one. In theory I think Spurs improve (surely can't have yet another game with zero SoT) and Leicester are better matched up to play well against + Kane has a good record.

But then maybe you can keep Ronaldo in his last home game, knowing that he has 100% FPL goal involvement (none of this Kane vs. Son debate) and pretty good on bonus and roll for next GW to have 2 FTs which could be useful for a DGW (e.g. maybe allows you to get KDB in instead with a cheaper forward).

Ownership another factor: if playing more safe in a ML, 39% of teams have Kane (and plenty with Son and Kulu) while just 5% have Ronaldo.

I'm going to decide before the deadline!

    Foster
    TAA Robertson Cancelo Alonso
    Salah KDB Mount Saka
    Dennis Nkethia

    Schmeichal | Pukki | DewsburyHall | Forfana

Plan = WC this week, BB 36, FH 37

Forfana clearly a risk but no $$ to upgrade.

Any changes to fix things? Does Mount stay on WC?

In the same boat, is there any room left for one more!

I think Lukaku plays so does that mean Werner or Havertz less likely to start?

I prefer not to take a hit so it’s probably Havertz to Coutinho or Werner to Watkins but also conscious of chip strategy which is bb36 fh37. Also don’t like Villa away to city in 38.

Am considering Toney as well who has SOU LEE either side of fh and maybe can get something away to United?

That’s the dilemma man. Havertz > coutinho or Werner > Watkins. Gut says sell Werner and keep havertz. Could easily backfire though

Confident Watkins outscores Toney in 36. LIV and bur away who are fighting. It’s tough. Good game in 35 offset by city in 38

When would you thr play the FH if you had this team, 36 or 37?

    Pope
    TAA Cancelo James Gabriel
    Salah Havertz Saka Mount Gordon
    Kane
    Sanchez Broja Schar 4.5

Was initially leaning towards a FH 37 but with triple Chelsea who might all play 120 mins max, no KDB, no dgw gk and few other sub optimal picks, I think FH 36 is the play.

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Robbo - Laporte - Coady
    Salah - Saka - Maddison - Mount
    Kane (C) - Pukki

    Foster - Gordon - Schar - Gelhardt

    1FT, $0ITB

Team doesn't look that strong this week, but need to hold transfer for next week...
    How does this plan sound?

    GW35: Hold Transfer
GW36: Kane, Maddison, Coady > 4.5, KDB, Cancelo
    GW37: Free hit

Taking some punts with selling Kane and getting KDB as chasing in ML.

Bit torn right now, current line up as below and really want Watkins (would be a -4) but struggling to know who to bench if I did that.

    Ramsey (Foster)
    Cancelo Laporte Robbo TAA James
    Salah Foden Saka Mount
    Nketiah

    Werner Broja KDH

Any one of Mount, Foden, James or Nketiah could be on the bench so could bring him in for Werner, would probably put Mount first sub in that case but might be one I live to regret. Worth doing?

Also leads to question marks of who to bench for the DGW next week…

Take -4 or just play this team in GW35?

    Sanchez / Ramsdale
    TAA - Robbo - Cancelo - Laporte
    Salah - Son - Saka - Odegaard - Gordon
    Kane
    Sub : Greenwood, Gelgardt, Amartey

    A : [-4] Sanchez + Odegaard > 3.9 GK + Coutinho
    B : [-4] Amartey + Odegaard > Alonso + Ramsey .. bench Gordon

Not sure if it's worth a hit.
