Scoutcast: Taming the monster Double Gameweek

Joe and Seb offer advice to Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers as they prepare for Double Gameweek 36 and beyond.

FPL managers are used to Double Gameweeks this campaign but arguably not on the scale of the next set of fixtures.

A dozen teams play twice, featuring all of the top teams in the Premier League, including title-chasing Manchester City and Liverpool.

The potential returns could be huge and so too the risks involved in veering away from popular picks.

While most FPL managers will already be well-stocked with Double Gameweek players, Joe and Seb wonder whether many will have ‘the right players’ in place.

They look at the best assets, including the consistency of City’s Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) to the differential potential of another of Pep Guardiola’s troops, Gabriel Jesus (£8.6m). The threat of rotation is another issue looked at, as is the best way to use any remaining chips. Could the less appealing Double Gameweek 37 be a better use of a Free Hit, for example?

Seb reveals his perfect Gameweek 36 squad of 15, which is aimed at Bench Boosters, Free Hitters and the chip-less alike.

Meanwhile, Joe is on hand with a raft of statistics on player and team form to help FPL managers fine-tune their decisions. His ‘Goals Imminent’ table also makes an appearance for those looking for an under-the-radar asset.

Andy was absent this week, doing some real-life scouting of Bournemouth assets as they secured their top-flight return. Joe and Seb will no doubt be soon asking their co-host for some top Cherries to pick in 2022/23.

Elsewhere, there are all the usual features, including quick-fire questions and our duo’s captaincy and transfer plans.

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Robertson - James - Cancelo - Laporte
    Son - Kulu - Saka - Mount
    Kane

    Dubravka - Gordon - Weghorst - 4.5

Best option from the below? 2FT and planning to use FH37

    A) Ramsdale & Mount > Schmeichel & Foden
    B) Kane & Mount > Nketiah & Salah
    C) TAA, Mount & Weghorst > Schar, Salah & 4.5 (-4)

      C) looks way too unbalanced, so definitely rule that out.
Has to be B) really if you want Salah, which surely you do?
I'd go for it as you have Son / Kulu in place anyway.

Thanks, leaning towards B alright. Only other consideration is to forget Salah and go for KDB and Richarlison instead. What do you think?

Advice greatly appreciated! On BB, 2FT, 1.4 ITB.

    Pope, Foster
    Cancelo, James, Robertson, Matip, White
    Salah, Son, Coutinho, Kulusevski, Saka
    Watkins, Pukki, Broja

    A - White, Broja & Pope -> Laporte, Nketiah & Schmeichel
    B - Broja & Pope - Ederson & Nketiah
    C - Coutinho & Broja -> Foden & Nketiah
    D - James & Pope -> Laporte & Ederson
    E - Something Else

Thinking A - prefer Foden to Laporte but no FH for DGW37 so will probably hold Coutinho.

    Cheers!

A, maybe just Broja & white to Laporte and Nketiah if you can afford, save the hit.

Alternatively If White is fit maybe B could work

Cheers - unfortunately I need the Pope -> Schmeichel move to fund the others. Even though Leicester's defence is more than dodgy I think I can make those 4 points up over the remainder of the season where Leicester have much better fixtures than Burnley.

Alright... 1FT, 0.5m ITB, BB remaining. Selling Kane (and sadly not replacing him with Son...) seems to be the only way for me to get a good BB this week.
Kane Cucho** Livramento** --> Jesus Richarlison Alonso (-8)

    Would give me:

    Foster Pope
    Cancelo Robertson James Cash Alonso
    Salah Mount Saka Martinelli Gordon
    Jesus Richarlison Weghorst

Not ideal losing Kane but you need to get rid of the other 2 so makes sense. Can't stretch Alonso to a City def - Laporte?

An AGONISING 0.1 short of Laporte ffs.... 5.9m ITB when I do Kane Cucho to Jesus Richarlison... so unless I could go cheaper on the fwds?

Always the case, I guess see if Jesus starts tonight, but there isn't much choice in forwards at that price, maybe Watkins if not FH 37

You worried about Chelsea rotation for Leeds game? Risky to be bringing in Alonso as well as James and Mount?

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        1 year, 10 months ago

True, potentially. As above I'm 0.1 off of Laporte unless I can find the £ elsewhere e.g. someone cheaper than Rich or taking another hit...

    3. LC1
      • 9 Years
      1 year, 10 months ago

Tough one, but I think triple Chelsea is overkill.

Could you do Kane and Cucho to Richarlison and Watkins and then Livra to Laporte?

Jesus not guaranteed to play both games in DGW and I think Laporte is a safer option.

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        1 year, 10 months ago

        I could do that, yeah.

Double City defence and no attack for that DGW is scary, though...

        Also, Laporte over Dias?

        1. LC1
          • 9 Years
          1 year, 10 months ago

I wouldn't be too scared in all honesty as the forwards are much more likely to be rotated.

Laporte over Dias for me 🙂

    4. Catastrophe
      • 13 Years
      1 year, 10 months ago

Hmm, really tricky one - going without Kane & Son is quite a risk and you could see Jesus with limited minutes. Perhaps consider Watkins over Jesus and get Laporte in. That sets you up pretty well for DGW37 too, assuming you don't have FH.

De Gea, Doherty, Mount, Cucho to...

Schmeichel, Mykolenko, Gordon, Richarlison (-8). Sound ok moves or anything better? BB36 FH37

    Ramsdale
    TAA Robbo Cancelo James
    Salah Son Mount Kulu Saka
    Nketiah

    De Gea Toney Cucho Doherty

I always think a -8 is a bit drastic but if you're playing BB you can probably get away with it, especially as you are losing a couple of injured players.

I also think Mount only gets one game.

So yeah moves seem decent imo.

      1. antis0cial
        • 7 Years

Thanks, yeah need to lose Cucho/Doherty who are both nailed for 0, so figure brining in 2 players with DGW offsets the hit straight away. No decent cheap forwards so Mount is to free up cash. I could stick with De Gea and just -4 I guess

Yep, I like those overall. Help above?

      1. antis0cial
        • 7 Years

I had already replied above. My main reason for dumping Mount is to free up funds, but I don't think he plays vs Leeds with the FA cup final less than 3 days after. If you don't need the funds, just keep him

I can force a City Def in, not sure it scores better though? Schmeichel can be De Gea to save -4

        Foster Laporte Gordon Rich
        Schmeichel Laporte Gordon Dennis(or Pukki)
        Schmeichel Mykolenko Gordon Rich

    Kate, Jesus, Hwang.

    Just got Schmeical in.
    Anything further for a -4?

As a non salah owner who’s chasing for the last few games his interview last night after the game worries me. He was saying his target at the start of the season was 40 goals and 15 assists. He’s at 30 now so might go on a rampage for the remaining games! I could regret it badly!

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

He's a forward that wants to score goals, nothing amazing there, if you ask the same of any striker none of them will say "I wanted 15 this season and got that so I can chill out now". I don't have Salah either but him saying that doesn't worry me any more than I already would have been. I'm sure he'll pick up points but I'm happy with my squad without him, I haven't had him for weeks and reached my highest ranks of the season in that time

Trailing in my ML by 20 points, I have BB and FH left whereas my rival only has TC. Have had a tough 7 GW's on the trot dropping from 70k to 166k. Big money in the ML too.

0.0 ITB and 1FT. I am BB this week and FH the next.

    Schmiechal
    Laporte Cancelo James TAA
    Salah KDB Mount Havertz
    Nketiah Dennis

    Foster KDH Davies Pukki

I think one of Havertz or Mount out but to whom? Anything worth a hit?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

1ft and 1.2itb. BB in 36. Will be using FH in 37.
    Any advice?

    Ederson Foster
    TAA Robbo Cancelo Alonso White*
    Salah Havertz Saka Kulusevski Gordon
    Watkins Pukki Dennis

What would you lads do with the following lot, with only a FH left as chip — and two ft?

    Schmeichel
    TAA, Cancelo, Laporte, Alonso, Matip
    Salah, KDB, Son, Mount, KDH
    Nketiah, Pukki, 4.5

Son to Saka, Pukki to Richarlison? Just Dewsbury-Hall to Gordon and save other ft?

Bit stuck here. No chips left fwiw. Long list just to get towards a binary choice later hopefully!

    Ramsdale
    TAA Robbo Cancelo James
    Salah Saka Coutinho Kulusevski
    Kane Weghorst
    Dubravka Ramsey Schar 4.5 fwd

    0FT 1FT

Any suggestions? Best I've thought of below...
    A. Weghorst to Nketiah (or James to Laporte)

    B. Weghorst (to Gelhardt) then Schar to Laporte (-4)
    C. Robbo to Matip, Schar to Laporte (-4)
    D. Robbo to Matip, Weghorst to Richarlison (-4)
    E. Kane+Kulu/Cout to Son/KDB+Richarlison (-4) (still means playing Weg or Ramsey)
    F. Kulu to Gordon, Schar to Laporte (or Weg to Richarlison) (-4)

For GW36 + 38 only - would you swap either of James or Robbo for Laporte for free?

James, I want to get rid but can't decide to who! Already tripled up on City and can't stretch to Robbo (probably a good thing with him playing yesterday)

Certainly considering it though it's not ideal, it's just the lack of transfers isn't it? We'd be gambling on playtime guesswork

Yeah, I’ve almost got one to burn though to raise funds for Bruno -> Salah. If I don’t do this, I’m probably just going to do Broja to a non-starter

Can get a full team of DGW’s for this week but not convinced I’ve got the best ones!

    Foster
    TAA Cancelo James
    Coutinho Salah Mount Kulu Gordon
    Kane Weghorst

    Ramsdale, Broja, White, Armartey

Debating Wehorst to Pukki? Or FH and not do FH in 37?

Is there sense in losing Kane for hits to strenghten elsewhere on BB?

Depends what moves you're making really. He's being sold by a lot of people this week but has a decent record against both teams and I think he will have a good week

Liverpool’s toughest game left to play perhaps, and he likes to get one against Arsenal. I think, however, Arsenal should hold out there at least for a draw.

Honestly I don't think Arsenal are in any shape to hold off any team unless Partey or Tierney make an unexpected return. We've seen before too in many situations like this that planning on sitting back and holding out for a draw can go disastrously wrong and in a derby I don't see it happening.

Which option (will FH in 37)

    A. Kane and Coutinho to KdB and Richarlison (-4)
    B. Mount to Foden for free

    Team
    Foster (Dubravka)
    Alonso TAA Robbo Cancelo (Amartey)
    Salah Mount Coutinho Kulusevski Saka
    Kane (Broja Gelhardt)

    Thanks.

Holding? No alternatives are really jumping out at me as options (have Zaha, Kulu and Saka already).

    Hi guys,
Have we all looked closely enough at GW38? I am thinking more about non free hitters.
It is all well and good, planning for DGW's, chips and rotation. but are we realizing the positives and negatives of the last week?
Having too many poor fixtures without a FH chip do we have to navigate?
Do we get so much value out of the poorer teams, or with those having nothing to play for?
Rotation can be estimated but not proven, so should we not ignore the Villa's, Everton's and the Foxes fixtures to a certain degree?
History says plenty of goals and less clean sheets in GW38 and GW37 has all likelihood of top sides players cashing in on points anyway.
Interested in your thoughts on how you are navigating.
    Cheers.

GW38 has factored quite heavily into my decisions for this week actually. Was initially looking at losing Kane but decided to sacrifice Trent instead. So I've got a nice spread of premiums for this week (KDB, Mané, Son, Kane) while retaining the Son-Kane double up with 38 in mind

          Schmeichel
          Cancelo Matip James Thiago Silva
          KDB Mané Son Saka Martinelli
          Kane

My view. I see player points per game being highest in GW38 TBH

The main permutations of these next 2 weeks on GW38 IMO are:

      - If Leicester progress to the ECL final, I think they'll nearly have a reserve team out in GW38 with the final just 3 days later
      - The title should still realistically be on up to the final day even if one team is a full 3pts ahead so I'd expect City + Liverpool to play full teams
      - I'd expect Spurs have to beat Arsenal for that battle still to be on
      - Relegation battle likely to continue onto final day for at least 2 of Burnley, Everton and Leeds
      - West Ham or Leicester getting knocked out tomorrow may mean they focus on a good finish and hope for European spots, Wolves can have a say too (although their form says they won't)

The rest I think are mostly settled. Chelsea bit of an outlier here, have a great fixture and no CL final to plan for so not sure what team will come out

Pretty much locked on FH38 as of now. I can see benefits of holding for final GW due to certain fixtures coupled with not many standout differentials this week.

Same I’m thinking of holding my free hit till 38. Think there could be more upside and knowing exactly where each team sits and what they need to play for. Generally speaking most final home games put on a show. Last year there were only two away wins in final game. I agree caveat king. My team now consist of Liverpool, spurs, arsenal and city. Even with more games for certain teams they’re limited in their scoring abilities and defensive capabilities.
