The dream team of Andy, Joe and Seb are back with their regular delve into the current talking points of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community.

With Gameweek 7 non-existent and Gameweek 8 hindered by several postponements, all three have decided to activate their Wildcard chips.

As well as using underlying stats to determine their new-look squads, they look at the fixture run between Gameweeks 13 and 16 to ensure long-term security alongside short-term benefits.

All three reveal their current drafts – with one currently on a West Ham United midfield double-up – before the usual updates on the community squad and then Andy’s regular Q&A session.

FPL Marc Broadcaster, writer and overthinker. Hoping that ‘differential potential’ will catch on.

"What is real? How do you define 'real'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain."

The parosmia many of the people got during long covid also got me thinking about these topics quite a bit. It's quite interesting.

    Anything worth a -4 ???

What is real is the overwhelming urge to wildcard, rather than take a hit or two.

I have the same dilemma. Leaning more and more to keep Salah. If you want Salah back in GW12 it will cost you 2 transfers. 1 to sell and 1 to bring him back.

You've got a free transfer to get him back in.

Potter’s first XI has put me off Fofana somewhat. Looks like he will play 4at the back and Fofana was benched, good chance he is behind Koulibaly too, making him 4th choice for 2 slots… guess I need to find that .7m for Cucurella. Interesting Chilwell didn’t even make the squad.

    1. The Tinkerman
      • 10 Years

Wing backs were still very advanced though, despite it being a 4, with a mid dropping in. I guess once Kante is fit that will be a very effective system with him shielding the two and the wing backs bombing on.

He played 3 at the back - James was effectively in midfield

Was a back 4 of James, Azpi, Silva and Cucurella. But yes the full backs were extremely attacking regardless.

it's 4 at the back defending and transitions into 3 at the back with the ball where they exploit the wings and James advances.

This is my one concern about Potter. At Brighton he was so creative with his use of wingbacks-who-aren't-quite wingbacks, and attacking L/R central defenders, yet the final output - goals was poor.
He'll repeat this with Chelsea - James, Chilwell and Cucurella will attack and be exciting - but will sufficient goals come? You might argue that at Brighton he was stuck with the likes of Maupay and Welbeck and never had a high-quality striker to finish off those myriad chances; now at Chelsea he does.
But does he? Chelsea have been weirdly cursed with under-performing strikers for many years, since Drogba's day - with the sole exception of Diego Costa.

I think it's worth investing in Chelsea defenders once we get a sense of who the regular starters are, but I'm not in a hurry to get in attackers, not even Sterling yet.

I mean the manager actually said it was a back three - ultimately Reece dropped back on occasion but it was a back 3

Ah just seen Chilwell in the squad list but unused. Commentator on highlights I watched said he was out? Anyway, it’s interesting that Potter leaves him out as Tuchel did despite the player being fit, must be something else going I guess.

You're both missing the nuance of modern tactical managers. The system was very fluid. I watched the game to assess Potter's choice of players and tactics for the PL, but it quickly became evident to me that Potter is an intensely reactive manager, as he has always had to be when in charge of the 'lesser' team. By reactive, I mean his picks and tactics are devised to frustrate the opponent. Red Bull sides play an unusually narrow tactic, so what he did to counter that won't necessarily be replicated in many PL games. For all that, the system worked well enough, and they were only undone by a Tilva error late on. The bigger question is whether Potter will continue being reactive, or whether he will adapt, having now got a squad deemed one of the strongest in the league.

But overall, my takeaway from what I came for is that I can't be sure enough of any defender being a regular starter other than James. Cucu, Chilwell and Fofana were all on my WC watchlist, and there they'll have to remain for a while.

I think the double premium forwards limit your midfield too much.

2 assists in midfield isn't far short of 3 goals for a striker.

I'm starting to think there's definitely some merits in Wildcarding in 10 rather than 9.

If you have not wildcarded in 8, you are probably well set up for a great GW9 team and the info GW9 can give us on the form of Liverpool, how Chelsea will line-up etc.. will probably be very valuable to design your WC for GW10.

Are some of you considering a WC in 10?

Decided to keep 1.4m ITB on wildcard….

    Pope, Ward
    Cancelo, James, Trippier, Emerson, Patterson
    KDB, Maddison, Zaha, Martinelli, Andreas
    Haaland, Mitro, Isak

Will make it easier to get Trent and/or Salah back in, although I suspect I’ll end up going without Salah until the WC if Haaland is going to be reliable permacaptain

I very much considered it and had it in my draft for a few days. But ultimately, I concluded the same as I did with pre-season drafts - a threemium leaves the rest of my squad depleted, and I'll be perma-capping Haaland which makes 2 more premiums sub-optimal.

2 FT and 1m ITB. Currently have 7 starters but Perisic probably won't start.

    A - WC

    Pope, Ward
    Cancelo, Trippier, James, Dier, Emerson/Neco
    Maddison, Martinelli, Bailey, ****, ****

At least 1.0 itb to do Martinelli ➡ Zaha in gw10 for both options

Although Spurs were rubbish in CL I'm still tempted by Son against Leicester.

Or should I just bring in KDB?

    On GW9 WC.
    2 FTs, 0.5 ITB.

    Ederson
    Cancelo - Trippier
    Martinelli - Andreas
    Haaland (C) - Jesus (V) - Mitrovic

    Ward - Salah - TAA - James - Gross - Dunk - Chukwuemeka

Plan to take a -4 and field XI.
    TAA > Targett
    Salah > Kulusevski/ Son
    Gross > Bowen/ Saka

    Thoughts?
