What a howler not including Jesus in the comparison stats. I'm face palming myself as we speak. For almost everyone, they need to make a decision about which 2 or 3 to get out of Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli AND Jesus. Why this analysis wouldn't deep dive into the Jesus data as well is a glaring oversight.

Which Arsenal players to get for your GW1 team is a massive decision. You need to get Neale out of Shearer's Bar and get your best writer on this one.

Unfortunately for me, it will be one of the last Members articles I read. I find that I can at least understand what Marc writes. He's a good writer. And at least he puts captions under his figures, which is not something Neale always does!

Since Neale is the big man upstairs, he's ultimately the one overseeing (or not) this "oversight" that you're highlighting. Maybe time to redirect the angle of your pitchfork thrusting.

Marc is a very good writer but Neale's the daddy. He should have been assigned the Arsenal members article. Such a crucial decision getting the right 2 or 3!

I really think Arsenal attacking double / triple up is getting pretty overhyped. In a world where all the big teams have similar priced midfielders a single Arsenal attacker is perfectly fine. My prediction is that most peoples second / third Arsenal pick will become the first player(s) they sell once the season starts.

Their prices and early fixtures suggest tripling up at the start. I'd like the keeper, 2 defenders, 3 mids and a forward. Today, I'm inclined to say their attack is more potent than their defence.

After GW3 the fixtures become pretty blah until the obvious wildcard spots. I’m not saying their bad options but I don’t think they are a necessity. I’ve had Saka throughout my drafts and not really felt I’ve needed to have more than that.

Given the fixtures, they look attractive and also the fact is they are good placeholders so you may be right about people selling them later. I'd maybe be more comfortable starting with Arsenal attackers than punting straight away on Man City, Chelsea, Spurs or Liverpool attacker.

I'm unexciting about having Jesus, but I'd rather wait to see how Nkunku does, and who is a regular starting striker for Liverpool. So yeah, Jesus is a provisional placeholder.
I can see myself doing my first 2FT to lose him and bring in Gabriel for another 5m defender.

I'm on Gabriel, Saka and Martinelli at the minute.

Thinking of going Watkins as my second striker with an eye on Nkunku and Gakpo. Will see what Chelsea and Liverpool look like in preseason.

Understood I just think it’s going to be quite hard to get ahead that way, as you are essentially locking into following the template.

My current draft is pretty template my differential is going big on Chelsea and benching week one because given fixtures 2-8 I think they could well be the opposite of Arsenal … no one wants to start with them but then try to jump on to attack the fixtures.

Yeah, I don't see having Saka and Martinelli as an issue for me. Only players I'm interested at Chelsea at the minute are James or Chilwell and Nkunku, but may go without depending on how they look in preseason.

Can someone explain to me what’s with all the Areola love?

Am I wrong in thinking he was exclusively West Ham’s cup ‘keeper throughout the last season, shaky at best during that time, and by all accounts likely to leave before the season gets under way?

What have I missed that might indicate he could now be first choice?

I was interested as I read a few West Ham fans saying it should be time for him to become first choice after a fairly poor season from Fabianski. Areola being between the sticks for West Ham's run to a trophy should surely add further fuel to that possibility

8 good attackers gives you bench trouble. Pick 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 and use the funds from Mbeumo/DCL on defense.

      Otherwise, it's pretty decent.

    Interesting video on how Liverpool's new mids may allow a return to Pool's previous 4-3-3 counter-pressing style;

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpxhIgpcryk&ab_channel=TifoIRL

From an FPL perspective Robertson may become as valuable as (a no longer inverting) Trent again, Salah would be in the system that gets him the best returns and Gakpo, as being able to play in the Firmino role, becomes a clear first choice over Darwin.

I watch every tifo video; that one is particularly interesting and crucial from an FPL perspective, imo.
He's saying a return to a 433 is viable because Mac A and Slobby can press. It also optimises Robbo, making him closer to viable at 6.5.
If Klopp persists with Trent as an inverted wingback, it will put me off owning any Liverpool assets as I think they'll be weaker than United and possibly even Chelsea.

Cheers. Think it makes sense not to have Mac/Szo in those width-providing CM roles, and its good to hear that I'm not the only one who suspects Trent won't continue inverting. I'm also very interested in how it affects the forward roles (not really covered here although I guess they imply that its a reversion to the old pressing setup that worked with Firmino) since having Szoboszlai occupy more central areas around the edge of the box seems like it might enforce a change in Gakpo's false 9 role, or even a switch to Jota/Darwin

I've seen a lot of opinions on how Liverpool may set up. I've seen this suggestion, the way they ended last season, and a few fans saying a 3-2-2-3 of sorts. I'm finding it a very curious season to be looking at from this stage, because really none of us know exactly how Liverpool, Chelsea or Spurs will set up, nor do we know how Mount will be used at ManUtd and how that'll impact everyone around him (as well as Onana's impact on build up which will completely change how they do that). Even Arsenal we can't be sure of with how Havertz or Timber will mainly be utilised or which wingback will invert (if either).

Makes it all the more funny the thread I saw on Twitter recently which definitively stated how Salah will be positioned and what role he'll have next year and other similar silly posts looking for traction.

Thanks for this. This is a really interesting wrinkle. I think this actually makes a ton of sense for Liverpool. Gakpo caught an extended run in the Firmino role last season and I could see Nunez in the old Mane. Jota and Diaz are both talented but don't have Nunez's athleticism. Using the 2 new mids in the 'old' 4-3-3 geigenpress makes a lot of sense. Preseason should tell. Thanks again for the link.

nothing linked but expectation that someone will come in, be amazed if backup option was Konsa/Chambers covering with so many games next season.

Suspect proper competition, given Emery stuck with Young in quite a few games when Cash was back fit

Not seeing many Haaland / Kane / TAA teams on here......how about the below?

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Akanji - Estupinan
    Saka - Mitoma - Mount - Kluivert
    Haaland - Kane - DCL
Subs: Areola - Enzo - Botman - Beyer

Bayern will wait for one year rather than paying 100 millions for Kane. Kane scored only 9 points less than Haaland last year and is 1.5m cheaper therefore he is much better option for second premium than Salah.

This is the sensible option, but I think they also know that if he's free to decide what team he goes to next year (rather than relying on Levy having to accept an offer), he could have his pick of a wealth of teams so it'll be harder to get him.

I'm not saying it'll actually happen with these clubs, but could you genuinely say that any of ManUtd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, PSG, Madrid, Barca wouldn't take him knowing they'd only have to pay wages, even at 31?

      1. Sure You Did

They would have to pay a massive signing on fee as well.

True but even that plus wages would pale in comparison to what a transfer fee this year will need to be. Seems like he's agreed terms with Bayern anyway so it's all in Levy's court now I guess

I don’t disagree - it’s just a bit misleading to say Kane was only 9 points behind Haaland when the latter was being rotated for the CL towards the end of the season.

Haaland had 21G3A by the end of the calendar year, Kane 13G1A - wouldn’t surprise me if the difference was this huge again with Haaland settled now and Kane playing for a messy Spurs.

If your Bayern why would you pay 100m for 30 year old Kane when you already dominate domestically with Choupa Mouting.

Doesn't make sense financially unless the Champions League is worth 100m+ to them.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

Bayern scraped the league last year, but they're also embarrassed at how poorly they did in the UCL which is the biggest reason why they're willing to back Tuchel in the market like this. Still don't know if they'll go to €100m though, I feel like it'll get to €90-95m and that'll be it

On the MUFC predicted line up I think you have Mount and Bruno the wrong way round.

Mount could sometimes play no10 or left wing.

Then he gets in the way if Mount and leave a big hole on the right. I mean, it's fine if it's a tactical ploy, but not a muscle-memory habit.

I read that ETH had tried to sign him for Ajax so he's likely got a very clear plan for him.

There's also a strong logic and fit to Mount playing on the right hand side of midfield.

Not that keen on many of those to be honest. Expecting Spurs defence to be horrible; Mings may well lose his place; Ake meh; Chelsea wait & see; Botman bad fixtures; Shaw mixed fixtures and (as Andy pointed out) may not be such a bonus magnet with Onana's arrival....

Surprised to see so little discussion of Trippier - he's definitely the main target for me (in defence) once NEW fixtures ease. But think I'm starting with a very cheap, short-term, fixture-focussed defence like: Gabriel Estupinan Henry

Estupinan (£5.0m) currently second highest owned player in game. My (likely unpopular) opinion is that it will only take a couple of blanks for him to drop in price.
Brighton's fixtures GWs 4-9 are actually pretty awful expect for the Bournemouth game: NEW, mun, BOU, avl, LIV, MCI... 5 games out of 6 against top 7 teams. I can see lots of people jumping ship to avoid that run.

No that's fair. I will probably ship him for Trippier in GW7. But their first 3 especially look as good as anyone's for defence. The only thing that might concern me is if Caicedo leaves & there's no obvious replacement for him

I will probably get Estu for the first three and book in Chilwell/James.

Not only are Caicedo and MaCallister missing so is Colwill. There dutch CB didn't look great, especially against Everton.

Looks like attacking points only after GW3
