Who'd you play out of Bowen (MCI - H) or Estu (MUN - A)?

Could do, but currently playing Chilwell, Udogie and Trippier in defence.

Would mean playing 4-4-2 or removing one of these 3.

Is anyone considering Villa double defence from GW8?

Cash and by then we will know whether Moreno has taken Digne's spot. Possibilities of clean sheets and attacking returns.

I'll get probably one in for Chilwell from GW9 when Chelsea's fixtures turn nasty.

Doubt I'll double up unless they show signs of improvement given that they've already conceded 9 goals.

Moreno will take Digne's spot when fit but he's only just back on grass after surgery & several months out. Both are great picks, but tbh I think Cash is a bit of a trap. Yes he picked up some flashy returns & stats while covering for Bailey, but his attacking threat at RB in Emery's system is virtually nil. I already own Diaby & Digne; will be looking at the currently unfashionable Watkins for a potential triple up around GW8

      1. FOO FIGHTER

Perhaps Emery will play Cash and Moreno as wingbacks?

Don't think so. He has a very intricate, asymmetrical system that is working well for the most part (just that high line is problematic in some away games if the pressing isn't up to scratch), where one of the FBs plays like a wing back & the other reserved, making a back 3 in possession. Maybe he might, very occasionally, play Torres LB so Cash can bomb forward for certain fixtures/matchups, but mostly it'll be Digne/Moreno because Bailey is more like a winger on the right of midfield, while McGinn/Ramsey on the left will tuck in.

And from experience, rotation is unpredictable

At least if you are not at the training grounds all day plus having breakfast with Pep and the other masters of rotation roulette.

Therefore avoid any players such as Foden, Diaz, Isak, etc.

Brazil won 5-1 yesterday against Bolivia.

Richarlison led the line for 71 mins but didn't score.

Martenelli remained benched and Jesus got the last 8 mins. All of the EPL players featured except for Allison.

Only Ederson and Casemiro played the whole game from a FPL perspective.

It's kind of crazy that the South American teams play 18 world cup qualifiers. The whole group home and away.

But that's up to 2025 with 6 games in total by November this year.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CONMEBOL)

November has some of the tastier fixtures this year.

The cycle is 2 games in Sept, Oct and November over 2 years then in March, June and Sept. in 2025.

South American teams don’t have a nations league and play less friendlies so they don’t play more games than other nations really

There's no qualification for the Copa America, is there? So don't have an equivalent of Euro qualifiers that the European nations have.

It is a bit mad, but then they don't have to do qualifiers for the Copa America so need to spread out the competitive fixtures.

It's a shame the likes of Paraguay & Venezuela have regressed in recent years, but there's still 7 good teams in there.

If you can't decide, look up the fixture rating for the next 6 games , add the the inverted value (ie 5 for good fixture, 1 for worst) together and times the total by the players xGI. Get rid of the lowest value.
Not ideal, but it will give you something to decide by.

    Turner (Johnstone)
    Saliba Udogie Gusto (Estupinan Henry)

Moreno is a classic example of FPL overthinking.

People didn't pick Cash because they thought that Moreno is first choice based on last season and would take his place. But oh look at that, Cash has had a great start to the season, scored two goals, and now he's more secure in the lineup and the manager will likely adapt his tactics to include him. (Not saying Moreno is a bad pick but a pure wait and see if/when he gets a place back in the team).

It reminds me of James Justin from a few seasons back. People made fun of others for picking James Justin even though he was playing well and had good fixtures. He was filling in for the first choice LB who was out with an undisclosed injury. Ended up being extremely good value for the early adopters and the template players were seething and never got him because they thought he'd be dropped at any moment.

Point is, RL managers also adapt their tactics based on the performances they see. A player that does well when given the chance can earn their place in the team.

So for FPL terms, especially this season with the generous pricing, don't look a gift horse in the mouth and pick up a good player with good fixtures even if it only lasts for a few weeks. Once you have a strong foundation of nailed players, (and every FPL manager knows who these guys are... Saka, Fernandes etc) you can afford to take a few of these hot coals and use their short term value as a differential. This is an edge I think a lot of the 'experts' who play super safe do not appreciate and where a more enterprising manager can get ahead. There is even further upside if the player has the potential to nail down a spot in the team (looking at you, Alvarez!)

      1. The Mentaculus
        • 4 Years

Couldn't disagree more. See my point above. Cash had no shots, no penalty area touches at RB v Everton. Its a pure hope he continues OOP play, which seems very unlikely now with their defensive injuries + Bailey back

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years
          2 years, 3 months ago

Also its not a simple case of 'Moreno will take Cash's spot' - he'll take over from Digne. Its the huge difference in attacking threat between Cash RW & RB that's the issue

          1. Sure You Did
            • 2 Years
            2 years, 3 months ago

He will take Dignes spot and be the more attacking player over Cash who will be more reserved. I agree with you, I thought this was already widely known.

I shouldn't have used this as an example. I'm not looking to buy Cash now. But I was just trying to make a wider point that choosing Cash to start the season was a good decision and that short term picks are worth making.

            1. The Mentaculus
              • 4 Years

I don't really disagree with your general point but I'm not sure it really applies to this specific case. I've been watching Villa closely & would still argue that Cash owners were quite fortunate with the Bailey injury - if not for that I think he'd be on: -1, 6, 2, -1

Getting Son is a good move - some will say knee jerk BUT the positional change surely works. Ange will now know this.
I would do FODEN to SON. Whilst in some games FODEN has a higher chance of a bigger haul he will face rotation and taking in the price differential EZE in my eyes is better to keep (assuming you need the funds)

I am not keen on doubling up but and for others who won't be, they are probably still 50/50 about going with Son or Maddison.

If you do go Son and he ends up out wide again then you can always shift him to Maddison.

Long term Maddison just feels like the better asset though.

I can understand why you might be reticent about a double up - i have gone that way (Maddi Son)

What I think is that SON @ 9 in an attacking Spurs on form will be a proper season long bargain.

Hes now Ange's go to option as a 9 to win games.

Only worry is Maddison tends to get injured otherwise a double up is or should be a good move.

No rotation really - no europe etc.

Ange will be going for the best league position.

Son has had 1 good game so wouldn't say he is so hot right now and no guarantee he remains up top. Maddison has been good in all games and returned in 3 out of 4. Based on the data, the obvious answer is Madders

Which is why I said right now. Sonny just scored a hatty and is playing Sheff Utd next.

You are right. Madds might score 300 points this year and Sonny have another shocker like last year.

At the moment I have Maddison. I’ve owned Udogie and Maddison since GW1 and will I’ll probably have to ignore Son until GW8. 3 Spurs with Arsenal and Liverpool coming up just seems wrong but at the same time Son oop with no Kane is pretty much essential imo, despite the fixtures.

Sticking with madders and slapping the arm band in him GW5 - don’t want to lose rashford or Saka this GM and as much as son can score past each of the next 3 opponents 6 & 7 are tougher. If he stay OOP will need him GW8 though

I have 2 FT. If I will buy Son for Foden then I will need 0.2m more.

What player should I downgrade with the second transfer?
    A) Ederson > Flekken (the 2nd gk is Turner)
    B) Saliba > 5.0m def (I already have Chilwell, Estupinan, Botman, Udogie)

        Ederson Turner
        Chiwell Estupinan Saliba Udogie Botman
        Saka Martinelli Foden Sterling Mbeumo
        Haaland Jackson Pedro

I don't want to sell Martinelli now with Jesus back and maybe Vieira in instead of Havertz. Everton, Spurs, Bournemouth in the next 3 for Arsenal.
Pedro could be a sell but I think I will keep him until DGW7. I will see then if I will buy Morris for him or not. Maybe I will play Pedro in gw6 vs Bournemouth too.

    Ukraine v England Day!

As much as I love Rashford, I'd love to see Maddison play instead to combine with Bellingham & Chilwell on the left. Overload the left, to isolate Saka on the right - "overload to isolate" is football bread and butter. I think Maddison gives better balance - I'd love to see him and Bellingham flair it up together.

Rashford is one of the best transitional players in the world. I think he's someone to bring on when you're winning the game, and the opposition start committing more men to the attack. Kane and Rashford could hurt teams on the counter.

        1. Sure You Did
          • 2 Years

That first sentence is a bit laughable but fair enough. The fact you see him coming off the bench, I can agree with. Not good enough for a serious/challenging team but good enough to come off the bench against tired legs if his team are winning. Even if he is the best transitional player in the world which is debateable, quite a niche skillset and I still would say he is bang average as an all round footballer. Just my opinion before people have hissy fits.

We can agree Rashford isn't an all round footballer, like you have admitted and therefore I think he is bang average due to this, as I have stated. He has a niche use, and that should be off the bench. You can still like your sweetheart, my opinion doesn't change yours.

I don't rate him higher than Foden on the left. But neither are all rounders. Rashford didn't deserve an England squad selection before Ten Hag improved him a lot. And Foden wasn't getting regular games for City until this season and who knows how long that will continue under Pep. Sure who knows with Southgate though?

Ten Hag improved him? Look at his output before his one rubbish season, he’s been scoring for fun for years now.

That is not my point. If he is the best England have for that position then fair enough but that is a reflection on how poor England are. Foden, Grealish can play there? Who else? These players are far superior in my opinion and are far better players that contribute and offer more to the team.

I asked Crunchie (Palace fan) about this & he reckons it might still be a while til Henderson is fully fit. Its quite possible Turner loses his place first. Its really annoying to need a double GK change so if you were planning to WC GW8/9 I might try to hang on with Johnstone, but if you've already played it its probably better to just sort it sooner rather than when it becomes a problem.

Palace have Man Utd in the league cup on the 26th of September so maybe Johnstone plays the two league games before then and Henderson gets the cup. But who knows, it's just a guess.

Joao Pedro > Morris is a fine transfer right? Happy enough with my team otherwise

    Onana
    Chilwell, Gusto, Udogie
    Saka, Rashford, Fernandes, Maddison, Mbeumo
    Haaland, Jackson

    Turner, Estupinan, Pinnock, Pedro

Double Man U players is an issue if you ask me. Pedro can sit on your bench for now.

Thing is they just have really nice fixtures for ages. I think they'll tick over nicely even if they're never the highest scorers in a gameweek

Yea, I’ll be making that one if no injuries crop up. Then either keep as 8th attacker or bin him off the next IB.

Cheers, I agree it would be a short term transfer. Probably sell for a 4.5 on wildcard

I’m going for a WC 3rd international break but if you’re going for the second one he probably has the best fixtures over the next 4.
