Maddison + Lascelles to Gordon and Saliba/White is a no brainer, right?

As I read Az’s heartfelt article, I made a silent bet with myself:

‘I wager’ I muttered under my breath ‘the first comment to Az being brave enough to share how he is feeling about the game would be some kind of tone-def RMT’

      Regrettably, that bet was won.

It’s a little unfair of course as you don’t know where your comment is going to land but it ironic that an excellent article like this has a ‘standard’ transfer question.

For what it’s worth I think the move is probably sensible but more information is required regarding the rest of the team and chip strategy.

On ‘content creators and experts’ I would like to say that it makes me quite angry the abuse they get, including sometimes on here. We can pick and choose what we listen to and people have a right to make a living if they think that, based on often a lot of hard work and researching, that someone might want to access and pay for that advice.

I personally find the various blogs, podcasts and other advice hugely important. I don’t have time for the same level of research and getting as many different points of view is really helpful in forming a decision. Ultimately, no-one has powers of foresight so mistakes can be made, and you don’t have to listen if you don’t like the advice.

    Bench one
    A) RAN (WHU H)
    B) Udogie (NFO H)
    C) White (BRI A)
    D) Gusto (SFU A)- Will play Petrovic this week

      It’s B or D for me.

Leaning towards benching Udogie as spurs haven’t been great defensively and Forest have tightened up at the back recently, conceding 1 goal in each of their last 5 games.

Sheff Utd and Chelsea could be anything on the day but I would be favouring higher attacking returns from Chelsea & Gusto.

Cheers. I was more leaning towards benching Gusto considering I will play Petrovic and don't like double CHE defense even against SHU.
Udogie is very attacking and could have got a goal as well in the last minute against West Ham two days back so don't like the idea of benching him

Your squad looks good - you've missed out a defender BTW.

Hard to argue against Lascelles to van Hecke. The latter came off the bench to give me a surprise 6 points in GW31. Since you're playing FH34 you could start to bring in Spurs or Chelsea players in early prep for their doubles, but you're already doubled up pretty well for them. Personally I'd go for:

      GW32 Lascelles to van Hecke
      GW33 Saka to Foden
      GW35 Darwin to Hojland

      Good luck!

    Udogie, Bradley, Gusto, Gabriel

    Lascelle replacement options:
    A) Maguire
    B) Braithwaite

I'd say it's just branding. But, even at its loosest, the definition of "expert" is "a person who is very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area.". I'd say this isn't miles off people who have such a good understanding of the game and have good track records over many seasons.

Great and brave piece by Az. I not only appreciate what content creators are trying to do for us, but I actually find it incredibly helpful when they put their hands up and say "it's not going great", because it helps me to realise that there isn't a perfect or magic way to play and we can all get it wrong (with a rank of 1m myself). It should be a game played for fun, so I'd like to see someone (perhaps Scout?) take a lead on developing a plan for how we root out the trolls who seem to want to bully and berate anyone who plays it a bit differently.

root out the trolls? nice notion but not going to happen. more chance of catching fairys at the bottom of the garden. if your online on any social platform creating content then sadly they are here to stay. want to root out the trolls then take away their power and go offline. thats all you can do.

I think there are things that can be done to minimise their foothold - for example have a zero tolerance in live streams, block them from this site etc, but you are right we'll never get rid of them entirely.

The trolls are systematic and built-in.

On a different level it's often state sponsored troll farms from Russia or China or driving the Trump agenda to drive chaos ...

The 4th estate has long been powerful and vested media groups are now in competition with technology and social media.

Look at the price Musk and his backers were prepared to pay to take control and disrupt Twitter further...

Albeit I'm reminded of that advice...

If you see dog dirt on the pavement you're best off walking around it.

That applies to social media messaging, often times it's best not to step right in it and walk on.

Thanks bud. It used to be a case of just blocking or muting anyone on X when they cropped up, and it was often the same people time and time again whereas now it seems to be much more entrenched. Difficult to know what the solution is!

Good point. I suppose the question then is whether I get another Arsenal attacker to go alongside Havertz or whether I go for another defender alongside White. Can't deny I prefer the fixtures from an attacking POV for Arsenal but given their defensive solidity I wonder if they're going to try to grind out results on the back of that as opposed to blowing away opponents

Interesting article from Az. It's difficult not to feel down when you're not doing well at anything that you are heavily invested in. With FPL there is more luck involved than in most other interests/hobbies/games so the risk of bad results is higher and results are therefore less influenced by skill and capability. As such, I try to remind myself of that when it's not going well. In terms of the content creator hate, it is unfortunate in my opinion. However, it does mean that the game has changed and is now either harder or at least has to be played differently than in the past which may be where some of the discontent comes from. I enjoy watching content personally. However, from my experience, as with many things in life, it tends to be disgruntled people who take the time to complain or comment. People who are content don't do so as freely, so it is probably a vocal minority issue.

I have some sympathy with his view but this is humanity in microcosm, schism, tribalism and the search for blame all played out in anonymity.

It’s just that the microcosm happens to be a made up, digital game for maths nerds who also like football.

It's fair enough for Az to mount a defence of himself and Mark etc.

The obvious answer is to switch off from Twitter, you can go into private mode too.

But I'm not sure you can say that people can't have a view either way. If people go to the comedy circuit or pub gigs they can have an opinion on who they found funny or enjoyed listening to or not.

If people are monetising advice on a fantasy game then you'd expect some counter views when it doesn't go well. And the furoe tends not to be when someone said select Son over Foden or tipped up Mac Allister. From what I saw with Andy at the start of the season and with Mark more recently people tend to get annoyed when it's perceived that they got some insider information. The close timing of which means it can backfire when people have been spending too long deciding if they should select Saliba over Gabriel for example.

Tbf to Andy he dealt with it fine and moved on.

The article doesn't mention leaks but that is the cause of the biggest angst.

Of course, other people can be critical and look at sport, music or film. People do like knocking others down as much as supporting their favourites too.

This is my only big gripe actually - the manipulation of leaked info among the CC community. But tbh I do also find the lack of 'content' in Eliteserien hugely refreshing - more diverse teams, more sense of ownership after having to research everything yourself, more uncertainty/surprises... more fun!

I don’t hate, love, like, dislike, support or oppose any individual content creators.

I am entirely indifferent to them as people and I can see the attraction of monetising something that they enjoy to do.

However, as with many things, the introduction of profit and money into something that was once a shared enterprise, has its downsides. The introduction of profit into our water supplies has led to our rivers being filled with $#1t, so similarly, as a group, I wish that content creators would just go away and stop polluting the game I love with their

I am aware you went out in the Hall of Shame Cup last week, which may well have been the precursor to this article, but rest assured your presence in the Tourney brings it a legitimacy that may otherwise not have been there!

AZ, hold your head high, your execrable season has seen you mix it with nudists the world over, your hairy paunch is in fine company with the rest of us! Truly you are the common man’s Content Creator!

Pretty open and honest article and a good read, I think its safe to say each and every player has been there.. Guess why there are so many 'players' of the game but much fewer active players towards the end of the season.

The toxicity around the game and particularly 'CC's' can be palpable on some of the mainstream platforms but it speaks to current consumerist society we live in and the need to be force-fed.

Time away from platforms can help but ultimately, you've gotta play the game your way, for your enjoyment.

That is all it is at the end of the day. A Game.
