Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) or no Salah? Salah and Erling Haaland (£14.0m)? Salah and Cole Palmer (£10.5m)?

Why not have all three?! Costing a whopping £39m, it’s not easy to fit them into a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) squad.

However, it could be worth it; the trio scored 739 Fantasy points between them last season, and that’s with Palmer and Haaland having significant patches of poor form.

In this article, I’ll talk through a hypothetical ‘threemium’ FPL draft and weigh up the pros and cons of such an approach.

‘THREEMIUM’ DRAFT

Because not everyone is picking a team just for GW1? And West Ham are terrible? And Bowen is a MDF reclassified as a FWD so less points per goals and no clean sheet bonuses?

West Ham fixtures after gw1 are Chelsea (H) Forest (A) Spurs (H) Palace (H) - hardly the most inspiring lol

Interesting. I would call it one of the more favourable run of fixtures. If you look at opening fixture alone OR even first 10 games.
Though I agree if you set your window to specifically first 7 game weeks it looks much weaker for them.

It perhaps is a coin flip - I just think 20% is already pretty fair if not high ownership for him given his repositioning. As a midfielder he's a good pick, but just not convinced at all as a FWD. Strikers are looking pretty weak this season though, so if he hits a patch of form he's an easy upgrade from a 7/7.5m FWD i guess.

Along with Palmer he's my only 100%. Pricing is really nice this year, so so many legitimate picks I think, including neither, either both Haaland/Salah.

I think if he was on penalties it would be a different story - reckon he’ll do great but leaving him out myself.

      Lol @ "spurs" annotation...

For me, GW9 is too far ahead to look initially. I've never held WC1 that late. After GW1 (not the best time to play a promoted side away), I just don't really like any of those fixtures except Spurs

English players are almost always popular Bowen + Solanke + Watkins + Rogers + Saka & Palmer and so on

Missing the fact that West Ham are absolutely dog and I can't see them winning a game in that run until Brentford (assuming Potter is sacked by then)

Not really. He was playing in a 3-5-2 so position change with Potter was the main reason. If he continues there he's a top tier pick. If he returns to RW then he's still a decent pick but not amazing.

Thank you Studs. I was hoping that someone would acknowledge the effort. While some people are questioning their sanity simply for tinkering with their team for the third time that day with over two weeks to go until kick off, at least one person deems it an acceptable use of time to trawl three pages of RMT for a semi-ironic over elaborate post about a single fairly uncontroversial take-it-or-leave it pick. I'm really just here to make you all feel better.

Thoughts on Ekitike over Wirtz? (NO SOLANKE)

Having Gyokeres and Ekitike as only strikers gives you a lot more cash to play with when Wirtz is out considering the worth in many mids.

Ekitike is wait and see for me - Cody Gakpo is big competition, but he could be a shoe in very quickly.

You never know, for 1 or 2 games I guess it's possible, but I doubt it given they moved so early & he'll play every friendly (not to even mention his quality)

That switch in bonus last year (combined with a lack of CSs) was far more pivotal than the DC implementation I think.

I think there has been some attempt/tweak at rectifying/re-balancing, but I think no.9s who are talismen are far more appealing than these DC players who are actually a bit obscure/quirky in the current landscape

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

No argument there, but I don't see what kind of talisman you're getting for the price of a top DC mid like Baleba

      1. Ser Davos
        • 10 Years

mmm so you think a Baleba/Anderson would be better value?

Depends on if you are going to captain the talisman...

        2. The Mentaculus

Better value than 5m forwards? Sure. But I'm not sure if it's useful to think of it across positions like that (unless in combos of mid + fwd).

At the moment though I think I'd only use someone like Baleba as a 5th mid in a 343 who can hopefully chip in with 4pts from the bench (and I guess I'd be slightly more inclined to start him for a week or 2 to cover injury/suspension than previously). But it does boost the appeal of an Anderson who can complement that with a few attacking returns.

Team's mostly set — Palmer, Gyökeres and Haaland are locked in. The rest are up for debate, so I'd appreciate any input.

    Kelleher Petrovic
Tarkowski Murillo Van de Ven Konsa Rodon
    Palmer Kudus Wirtz Rogers Semenyo
    Haaland Gyokeres Adu-Adjei

such a variety of sides across the board it seems

Tarkowski is injured so you may save .5 in O'Brien. Could be our first niche DC pick

      looks good otherwise

Another iteration post Tark injury. Different defence set up (VVD, plus Villa/Bur and For/Pal rotating pairs to GW8). Gyok may replace Watkins.

    Does it work?

GW1 (not playing BB till later)

    Kelleher
    VVD Neco Konsa
    Salah Palmer Rogers Ndiaye
    Watkins Bowen Wood

    Valdi Guehi Esteve Miley
